I’ve been doing sheet metal since 1998 HVAC. I’ve fabricated in shops and installed residential and commercial ductwork and I can tell you right now those strait aviation snips are good for some stuff but what you need to make this a lot easier for hand tools I’m talking is look for offset snips any brand you like Malco or dewalt it doesn’t matter.

I you want to get really picky, plan ahead so that straps cover the cuts. Only use the shortest possible pop rivets. Don't stress tooo much on possible leaks, In most applications everything will be wet because uh raining. A low spot in the gutter or a joint over a doorway will be a problem to avoid.

Instead of using a razor to cut a hole into in just use a flat screw driver and hit it into the ends that join each other and lift it up so you can stick your tin snips to cut along the line safer and faster then using a razor.

Nice tips! I normally do a rough cut with a hacksaw or grinder about 1/2" big then clean it up with snips. I find doing it all with snips damages too much downspout on the waste side.

I use a hammer for this. I just pound it until the metal gives up, then I pound the downspout to hell, and shove it in. It doesn't look pretty, but you don't need 9 tools. I pretty much use a hammer for everything, including wood.
