      Thanks, we glad you liked the video! The only airbrushing we used for the Space Marines was to base them, the rest was entirely hand painted. We used two colours at a 50:50 mix for the shoulder trims - a mix of The Army Painter's Zealot Yellow and Hardened Leather. Hope that helps! 👍😀

    For the WW2 infantry that you painted Pallid Bone 1st, before the green, did you put any sealer over the bone 1st? Does dried speed paint reactivate when painted over with another paint?

    • @Diceslice
      @Diceslice 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dried acrylics (speed paint is an acrylic) do not activate when painted over, no matter if it's other acrylics or oils(enamel).

    • @WargamesIllustrated

      We didn't apply any sealer over the Pallid Bone and the dried paint does not reactivate when painted over with another paint as it is acrylic. 👍

      @@MrZauberelefant Oh yes, it's definitely is a better price than a GW product. But what isn''t? I was able to make a one ounce bottle color matched to my army for about $1.00 and it behaves just like Contrast. It's also easy to do small amounts on the fly. One thing of note for the Speedpaints is that I see in some reviews that it does not "peel away" as much as GW Contrast so you don't get the instant highlights. Maybe thinning with a medium will help?

      Did you watch the video? It is almost 25 minutes of examples backing up our thoughts on how well Speedpaints work. Far more examples than Squidmar's video provided actually - we know that because we watched it!
      Could it possibly be that not everyone feels the same about everything? Nah, it must be something more dubious! :p
      Not a single one of Wi's videos is tied to any sort of sponsorship (some of Squidmar's are!) and The Army Painter don't advertise in Wargames Illustrated magazine either. Believe it or not we got good results from a really good set of paints and talked about that. Who'd a thunk it?

      As a graphic designer who worked for many publications, I can smell an advertorial from miles away, especially when we are dealing with the social media of a publication. BUT lets be fair. The advertisement pie used to be divided among ''proper'' media organisations and media shops, and offcourse they were suspected by the public for corruption, because they were corrupted. The rise of social media supposedly would rinse that corruption away since it was not possible to outright bribe so many individuals. Or was it? In fact it was easier and cheaper. Where an well known editor would demand hard cash or luxurious gifts, the small fries would happily turn over for afew pots of paint or a box of plastic that actually costed a fiver or even less to the producing corporation. I would not rate at all Squidmar as an objective reviewer, since there are signs of him being quite the opposite. He might look as a wholesome friendly guy, but he is a business. He even has employees. He has a clear GW bias and I caught him several times advertising junk.
      You are right the painted results we watched in this video were not good. It was more than a washed out watercolor effect, than the ''magic'' finish advertised by all these paint companies. Then again what is ''good'' is relative. I mean for someone who wants to have little jewels in his army, the depicted results were pretty bad. But for someone who doesnt care about the artistic aspect, but focuses on the gaming, these look fine.
      If people were saying the actual truth, they would recommend to just get some acrylic mediums and a concentrated acrylic ink or if you are feeling lazy, get the Army Painter medium and some acrylic inks and make your own contrast paints. There are already artist's acrylics like the High Flow of Golden in opaque and transparent series that with abit of flow aid will give you a very similar result at a much much better price, when taking volume in account.
      In the end dont expect from anyone a non biased review. The best course is to watch everything and compose bit by bit an aproximation of the truth.
