Russia's Su 34 Fullback Is One Mean Supersonic Bomber

- In today’s session we are going to talk about a superior jet fighter, the Sukhoi Su-34 from Russia. If you are curious about what this combat aircraft is capable of, look forward to this video and stay tuned.
With the NATO reporting name Fullback, the Sukhoi Su-34 perhaps one of Russia’s most advanced and capable all-weather jet fighters, it is capable of ground, surface, and air attack. Not only that it is being seen active in a region like Syria, the Su-34 also being used to strategically defend Russian national interests in the Arctic.
Let’s first take a look at the history of the Sukhoi Su-34.
Historically, the development of Sukhoi Su-34 was a complex process. Sukhoi began developing a new multirole combat aircraft to replace the swing-wing Su-24 in mid 1980s, then selected the Su-27, due to its excellence in maneuverability and range, and also because its capability in carrying a large payload, an important aspect for the new fighter-bomber. The aircraft was specifically developed from T10KM-2, the naval trainer derivative of the Sukhoi Su-27K. Subsequently labelled as Su-27KU by Western intelligence, the aircraft then made its maiden flight on 13 April 1990. Retaining the main undercarriage of previous Su-27s, it was a prototype for the Su-27IB and was developed at the same time as the two-seat naval trainer, the Su-27KUB, which surprisingly is not directly related with Su-27IB.

I was never a fan of bomber aircraft… until this one came along.
This is now my #1 favorite bomber aircraft.

Russia did not plan for a all out war, they expected them to surrender from the shock and awe… that didn’t happen and the Russians had to reinvent their strategy mid war… and now are taking back ground. I’d say they’re doing ok.

It's been a very long misconception. It does not have a toilet. There are many pics online that show the entirety of the Su-34's cockpit and interior, and you can plainly see that there is no toilet.

Because they lack long range weapons, instead they are using these to drop unguided gravity bombs like in ww2. Which makes them vulnerable to local MANPAD teams.

Al SU-34 también lo llaman "el avión tanque", porque pesa 46 toneladas como un tanque ruso. ¿Por qué pesa tanto? Pues porque lleva una capa de metal acerado que le protege de los disparos de los fusiles de asalto. Anteriormente fue el SU-25 el que empezó pesando tanto y por el mismo motivo.

I want a SU-34 with only wet hardpoints and without any weapons systems. and if possible having the cockpit lengthened. with this its range would likely be farther and would easily make transatlantic flights as it already can.

It seems teh Russian Air Force capability is vastly over rated. Unable to organise and execute large operations with dozens or hundred of different types of aircraft like teh western airforces can, and have done so for 50 years.

Su-34 have integrated Chibiny EW suite + there is also available EW pod SA-14 Tarantul, which is specificaly designed for long range jamming.
Considering the relative small number of Russian (little more than 100million) that exists in the world they have interesting military stuff (what else they export?) and make a lot of noise currently

this video was posted 10 months ago just before ( or around the time ) Feb 28 the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a few Su-34 was shot down by portable handheld manpad anti aircraft missile.
A lot of air combat military doctrine must be re-think and re-examine , maybe the equipment (designed decades ago ) does not work as well in the latest evolving combat environment or other factors which prevent the aircraft reach it's maximum efficiency .
For example , the Russian 's shortage of precision munition which force Russian pilot to fly a lot lower to hit the target , but also got targeted by manpad anti aircraft missile .

Furthermore I want you to investigate why Russia is losing such a large amount of aviation despite being extremely sophisticated and ultramodern.
The reason is that russian pilots may be new or untrained , for example in Syria, Russia's pilots were extremely professional at their jobs, however in Ukraine this is not the case. To add more Russia's maintenance of jets is not so solid nor reliable, moreover the jets fly at low altitudes meaning they are susceptible to man-PADS which is a grave threat to low flying combat aircrafts and jets.

I was under the impression that it’s only high subsonic, not supersonic, due to the design of the forward fuselage. Plus, the carriage of ordinance limits its top speed to below Mach 1.
I thin planes with external bombs generally cannot go supersonic. but it can ditch those bombs and be supersonic for a short time to engage in fights
@@KirbyZhang normally, yes. From what I was told, the SU-34 flying clean still cannot break Mach 1, just due to it’s forward fuselage design. If the plane can do that, great.

Yes, modern fighter aircraft can. Btw. both Eurofighter and Rafale have about the same weapon load as SU-34 (ca. 9t). Both are capable to go supersonic in supercruise with weapons attached. And they would also be able to go transatlantic with inflight refueling, just like the SU-34, all 3 have a similar nominal range). So nothing special here. Still impressive and gorgeous to look at.
