- Presently, the MiG-31 Foxhound is considered the standard long-range interceptor of the Russian Air Force, and is expected to be active until the 2030s. The MiG-31 Foxhound was also chosen as the primary carrier aircraft for the Kinzhal hypersonic missile. A “mid-life upgrade” of the MiG-31 Foxhound is currently being procured, and this modification will integrate a number of new strike weapons onto the MiG-31 fighter jet and modernizes most of its systems.

I'd say the F-4 was basically the F-16 or F-35 of it's time (the work horse flag-ship fighter jet) while the MiG-31 would be more comparable to an F-106 Delta Dart, except with much more advanced technology at the time.

ACTUALLY MIG-31 WAS MADE TOO INTERCEPT SR-71 AN AN-12 , BECAUSE THE MIG HAD GUNS AND A MACH 3 SO SR -71 AND AN-12 ENDED.
6:25 says it has a 30mm gun and proceeded to call it a completely different 23 mm gun...
Mig 31 is good for stand off weapons and hypersonic missiles. Using glide bombs would be smart.

Russian and Chinese hypersonics are strategic weapons not tactical and thus will never be used.
If they don't pack a nuke warhead, then why wouldn't they be good tactical weapons?
It they are as reliable and accurate as their makers claim, than these are FAR greater then normal 'slow' missiles.
@@KondorDCS Realistically, Russian Khinzal is nuclear only platform, it is isn't accurate enough for anything except nuclear strike. It can't be used tactically. It is just a modified a K9720 from 1988 strapped to MiG-31. Basically just a Russian media stunt.
Chinese hypersonic weapons are a bit different story, those can theoretically be used in anti-ship warfare with non-nuclear payload.

@@KondorDCS Hypersonic missiles can not maneuver, Russian patent below as source stating so as they have to shut their engines off, can lose stability from it, and even self destruct from coming back down to it's target.
"Russian patent number 2579409 relates to the field of rocket technology, and more specifically to hypersonic cruise missiles equipped with a hypersonic ramjet engine. The invention describes a method of application and device hypersonic cruise missile, allowing to solve the problem of performing a combat mission to destroy ground and surface targets of such a missile. The described invention is designed to maximize the combat potential of the combat module with the scramjet.
The design mode for the scramjet are high-altitude cruise conditions while maintaining the estimated cruise speed, and the need to reduce the altitude and flight speed creates difficult technical problems due to the fact that:
an engine designed to perform a hypersonic mid-flight at high altitude is not able to continue to work at low-altitude trajectory sections associated with a decrease in the flight number M, hence, the rocket must approach the ground or surface target with an inactive engine;
characteristics of sustainability and controllability of the combat module with inactive scramjet significantly deteriorate, loss of stability becomes possible;
there is also a danger of destruction of the scramjet design due to the increase in pressure in the flow part of the engine while reducing the Combat module from the march height before hitting the target."
Most of the "modern" jets the USA has are designs from the 70s. So they are also antiquated as well.

Yeah, that is not what MFDs look like (5:23). Those are analog instruments wheres MFDs look like iPads.
Also, the gun is a 23mm with a standard loadout of 260 rounds but can fit up to 800 (not sure what the consequences of that would be).
russians are not capable of fitting their guns with more than 250 rounds. the 260 on the foxhound almost gave them brain annurism.

Very cool jet, but not very useful in modern warfare. The airframe lifespan of MiG-31 is basically a joke. Russian definition of Hypersonic missile is also very different, Khinzal is not a real hypersonic missile. Both the plane and the missle are mostly 80's technology. Russians have used both for very effective propaganda though.

@@bagamut 2500 hours for 30 years? 83 hours of flight time per year? That is nothing. Even the F-16 has 12000 hours lifespan, new F-15 EX has 24000 hours. 2500 hours of MiG-31 is a joke.
Khinzal is just the first stage of a short range ballistic missile with warhead and some targeting system strapped on MiG-31. It is basically a modified K9720 from 1988. Realistically, it is nuclear only platform, which makes it useless, unless you want to start WWIII and destroy the whole planet.
Khinzal is just a clever media stunt to boost Russian foreign weapons sales.
@Xavier Dufay MiG-31lacks the maneuverability, survivability, connectivity and stealth companions in comparison to F-15EX. F-15EX is meant to complement F-35s and NGAD, which makes it a very valid platform. MiG-31 doesn't really have anything to complement and it can't penetrate enemy airspace on it's own, so it is rather useless.

Mig-31 is titanium airframe which can last almost forever, Mig-31 lifespan is a number of hours till overhaul, when Mig-31 would certified for another thousands hours of lifespan, Mig-31 lifespan is now 3500 hours, real flight hours at 3Mach, when russian hear about western 1000000000 hours of lifespan they just laugh, cause next line is 100000000000$ per flight hour
