Our company has used Pedal Me as a courier for large packages and every rider that came has been fantastic! I know our use is not their main selling point, but it is awesome Ben and them have been so accomodating. Thank you from Artisserie/Office Diner 😄

What a great idea! If I still lived in London I'd use that instead of an Uber car. Looks like fun. In some European countries there is a category of electric assist which allows a much larger motor on a bicycle, but the bicycle has to be registered with a small registration plate. We don't have this in the UK, but if we did it might be good for this.

Absolutely brilliant, John! I love the idea of applying the bicycle to urban transport. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Sign me up to become a pedaler! However, all my routes will take a de-tour up Swain's Lane.

Eat Plants hahahahahaha, it would be a fantastic job and I bet you could get that bike up Swains Lane 😊 I did something quite silly the other day, I entered the London urban hill climb😱

There is a cargo bike category in the Urban Hill Climb, however no motor allowed.

As I work as mobile bike mechanic I've got to do work on and test ride a similar framed urban arrow which was seat up to carry a person in a wheelchair in front. The owner of that bike like many other owners of Dutch cargo bikes have found that cargo bikes do have one common problem. The brakes on them aren't designed for a hilly environments. Many come roller brakes as standard and the disc brakes are almost always base models which something to watch out for if you live in a hilly environment and plan on getting on.
That urban arrow has decent disc brakes as standard, but they will fade pretty quickly when you're trying to stop almost 300 kg of mass with them.

Those particular bikes have been custom made for that very purpose so I would imagine they have taken on board the end use and expected payload o top of the actual weight. I also work with cargo bikes (Danish, Dutch, French & Italian) and except for a couple of known brands, brakes have never been an issue.

The brakes on this bike are insanely good. We have to stay on top of maintenance, but we have a maintenance schedule to ensure we do - come give us a try and we'll show ya!

    • @rikugriffin

Brake fade doesn't have much to do with maintenance schedule as it more a property of the brake based on the design of them. As the main factor involved is how well the brake can handle heat generated from repeated heavy breaking without adequate time to cool the brakes in between.
For riding around London the regular brakes will be fine. It's flat enough that you won't have trouble.
But do go and test the brakes, preferably in a place with a safe run off, and a good load and you'll find out that what the limitations are

Richard Griffin I'm one of the instructors who trains up the riders. The development of these bikes is as much R&D for Urban Arrow as Pedal Me. Technically we're now on V3 of the bikes and every time the fleet expands the bikes are improved. Newest bikes are lighter, better brakes and more maneuvrable than the previous.

Saukki I think the more pedal taxi's the merrier. We already have rickshaw taxi's and it all helps to cut down on pollution ☺

What makes this different from a rickshaw, apart of the cost of course, and how can this be more fun than Uber car in the Winter time. 🤔

    • @velo-ads4206
      @velo-ads4206  7 ปีที่แล้ว

DrMorocho I think a lot of cyclists will use this if going out partying, and at least there is an option if the weather is forecast as bad call uber if sunny pedal me.

The speed is the difference - we can cover much bigger distances - plus our riders are all criminal records (DBS) checked and highly trained. And, I guess, there's more of a buzz and sense of theatre about the bikes - two common reactions from passengers: 1) putting their arms out like they're flying 2) waving at passers by (as everyone looks and waves as you go past).
