- Pedal Me is taking on Uber with its taxi and cargo cycles. It claims to be faster, cleaner and more fun than petrol rivals. The FT's Daniel Garrahan and Bethan Staton put it to the test by racing to the FT building in a Pedal Me bike and an Uber car.

Pretty good. I will try the app. In London most of the "traffic" is empty taxis and mincabs/ uber's. Shocking in itself as the public transport system is excellent (at least E-W. Not so .uch N-S)

Apparently business is booming, according to a rider I spoke to the other day. Much of their business is freight, which is year round.
Possibly because if you don’t know the roads, cycling in London traffic is hectic
They can use motorcycle instead like Gojek and Grab in Southeast Asia. But I don't know if it is a good option during autumn and winter..

I have doubts and questions about a long wheelbase bicycle and its stability. I think it needs a safety flag as well. Do the riders feel safe sitting low with no way to put feet out in case of leaning?
I know its 2 yrs ago, but i have been in the passenger seat many times and i feel safe and comfortable even on tight corners. Yes it is different than a normal bike but it has to be, each rider is given extensive training and is only allowed to take passengers once qualified. There really isnt anything like it.
I worked for DHL as a bicycle courier and we used a similar bike to this one. It is very similar to riding a normal bike, you just need to steer into a corner a little 'earlier' than you normally would. They are very well balanced and quite close to the ground. Plus you have the forward momentum and centrifugal force on your side.

This guy in London made a guy better bike taxi. It looks cool. The taxi is closed in except for the doors. The passengers sit in the back. The guy who created it is brilliant.
The decision isn't the customers. It's the viability of the work that matters. The lucrivity of the work.

We weren't able to get the bike-to-bike shots during the race as our main camera operator went in the Uber, so we cheated and got some extra shots with a different rider to help in the edit. The race result itself was legitimate.
Black cabs have The Knowledge. That mini-cab was shocking.
"The Knowledge" is 100% redundant. I have never met a black cab who knew my road in zone 2. Useless. My phone does better.

I, who live nowhere remotely close to the U.K., am way more interested in if they sale those bikes.
Larry and Harry make the Bullitt bike ... you are free to modify the front cargo area to do something simiilar to what PedalMe has done.
@@larrym2434 Does it has to be a Larry and a Harry? I think I can find a Larry, but for a Harry the best I think I could do would be a Lorenzo. Maybe there's an adapter I could use... IDK.

Thank god electric scooters are legal here unlike the UK. I bought mine for €700 and it's a car replacement 95% of the time for me.

Motor manufacturers convinced the world that their product = progress. It's taken a century to realise that at least in cities they are the least efficient way of moving humans around since the sedan chair.
No wonder UK wants to get rid of Uber and the likes. It’s incredible how this type of service can vary from one country to another, depending on the way families bread-winning strategies...

@@abcdefgh-rq3gq I dont think it was as ad laws in the uk are quite strict and they would have to specifiy if it was. You can get in alot of trouble if you dont.

What melts here we are the man gets on a bike no safety what insurance did they have did they have a licence to carry you I doubt it and then onto the lady gets a uber he has a meltdown why because he doesn't know what he's doing so instead getting a cab which were around gets an add Lee takeover an hour to a job that would have taken no more than 10 minutes max firstly shame on FT for employing these two melts and shame on met police for sitting there while they get picked up on a pedestrian crossing
I mean i have no idea what you're saying, but i can answer the first bit. All the riders and bikes are fully insured and are fully trained to not get into a situation where insurance would be needed.
