Definitely. I grew up with these games. Got Arkham asylum back in 2008 after it had only been out for about a week. It’s my least favorite now. It’s the birth of everything we’ve come to love from this franchise, but damn, it really is the birth. The boss fights are god awful besides poison Ivy. Asylum’s atmosphere and charm don’t outshine the later more epic stories and plot lines the franchise gets into for me. And origins came out when I was tired of the Arkham series, needed a break, there weren’t any other games out at the time that I wanted so I got it. I was pleasantly surprised. It really piggy backed off of what came before, with origins open world easily being my least favorite to explore out of origins, city, and knight. But from an evolving the franchise standpoint, origins really focuses on the bosses and turns up the notch from city. Those boss fights are the best in the series, and they alone make the game much more enjoyable if you’re going to play through them all. The story is surprisingly epic as well, and with it also being the only game to show the actual bat cave, it’s a must to play along with the others. The voice actors not only did amazing as joker and Batman, but the fact that they changed the actors and that this is years before the other games make it work really well. Arkham Knight is the definitive Batman experience. In no other game will you have all the gadgets down the Batmobile. The graphics still look like a game that was made recently. The gameplay mechanics, from everything that returns from the previous games to the wide array of new additions, are refined to a level of quality beyond the other games. The boss fights unfortunately took a major hit, with some enemies being brought down in extremely anticlimactic ways. The whole namesake of the game was a red herring just to introduce a character that was already established, along with the lie that rocksteady said the character was completely original to the Arkhamverse. And then there’s City, which is absolutely perfect in every way. Batmobile won’t be shoved down your throat to where even the boss fights suffer. Here, there’s no Batmobile, and the map is perfectly sized for on foot, grappling, and gliding only. Everything from asylum comes back and is done bigger and better. Quick fire gadgets, riddler trophies actually lead to riddler side missions, a story that weaves its way around many villains, boss fights that are unique throughout, and the first game to introduce multiple side missions that could be tackled at any time. Side missions that culminated in Batman crossing path with another of his iconic rogues gallery. Arkham City was just absolute genius. Didn’t rely on the previous games like origins, took what asylum did and blew it out of the water, and managed to take all the right risks with that unlike Knight. My ranking is 4. Asylum 3. Origins 2. Knight 1. City

I think Batman Arkham Asylum isn’t given enough credit perhaps? It was an unbelievable foundation for The Arkham Series, and it was a brilliant game! Sure, it didn’t have the most advanced combat or mechanics like we now have in Batman Arkham Knight, but I think its atmosphere was unmatched. The argument about City's story being nothing but a fetch quest is certainly a weak one. I'd like to give my reasons for it being my least favorite story in the franchise (despite still really enjoying it). Batman as a character is completely stagnant, undergoing no introspection or development, while also being far too emotionless. Batman should be stoic but it's far too much in City, especially compared to the others. In Asylum he has caring banter with Oracle and even chuckles occasionally and he shows genuine care for Gordon. In Knight he practically cries when he thinks Oracle dies, and the plot basically revolves around his fear of failing the people he loves. I think Origins doesn't even need to be mentioned it does this aspect so well. But in City he's basically a statue. His coldness towards Robin doesn't feel like protectiveness he just comes off as uncaring. He has a stronger reaction to Hugo Strange's death than Talia's. The plot of the cure isn't the best but the only thing about it that actually bother's me is that Hugo Strange is reduced to a complete non threat. Once Bruce is infected there is ZERO investigation of Protocol 10 until Sharp is arrested, when scaling Wonder Tower Strange doesn't do anything to make good on his threat at the beginning of "if you try to stop me, everyone will know your secret," and then he's just gone after being revealed to be a lacky for Ra's. It's not that I think the story is bad at all, I still greatly enjoy it, but I much prefer Bruce's characterization in every other game and I would've preferred more focus on the Protocol 10 mystery than just the cure. Man that was an essay, sorry lol.

I say strange got arrogant by the end everything of his went according to plan he's been manipulating everyone playing catwoman and two face against each other, ratting out Gordon's undercover team, giving freeze to penguin manipulating quincy sharp using Mad Hatter etc. He kept batman off his tail and from investigating protocol 10 until it was literally 20 minutes away and by then it was too late.
In the opening he says "I assume you thought yourself untouchable well as you can see no one is untouchable"
By the time you are about to apprehend him he ironically says "I am untouchable" all of his successes got to his head and it became his downfall. Even Ras Al Ghul calls him out on it. "you've proven that batman is better than you" batman never got arrogant

      @jacobcenter7374 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@baki484 and like that's exactly what happened, but I feel like it kinda undermines his "cold and calculating" thing. And they could've just avoided it by making that final stealth section similar to the one in Asylum in the Botanical gardens where you need to sneak past everyone to get to the guy in the control room first. Strange assumes Batman fell off the tower once his people lost sight of him, which means until you take out the first guy in the top room he thinks you're no longer a threat. If you had to sneak past the guards, silent takedown Strange, and THEN the rest of them, that would have solved that issue in my eyes

Riddler calls him out on his insecurities and how he feels unworthy. In a way his failure was foreshadowed. Then there he lunatics from arkham Asylum being his handy work on top of their disposal in wonder city.
The reveal of batman's identity was something he planned to do after the work was done with batman beaten and broken. But I wish the final stealth room was us taking everyone out with him noticing

I do actually agree with the criticisms of City's story after a recent playthrough... The story starts off extremely interesting with Protocol 10, but then is almost completely abandoned for chasing Joker's cure instead. It's a wild goose chase with not much character growth in it. It has a phenomenal ending, and still incredibly solid gameplay and graphics, but yeah the plot is barebones until Protocol 10 actually comes into effect towards the end.
I've come around to Knight recently. It's my new favorite Arkham game despite its many flaws. The raw gameplay is just that insanely good and massively improved over the other 3. I only replayed the first 3 games once, but with Knight, I've beaten it on every save file.

I know Asylum is aged but I played it for the first time last year and I had such an amazing time and couldn’t wait to continue the series. I’ve played games where I didn’t play in its heyday and/or not on its original console so while I recognize the history, I can’t get into it like I wanted. But that wasn’t the case here, I was having so much fun with Asylum. Definitely a favorite now.
That said, I went into Origins expecting the worst since I saw so many talk poorly of it. And instead I ended up absolutely loving it. It shows how important it is to play for yourself to find how a game impacts you or doesn’t. as I too played it for 1st time last year I never experienced the rough start and I didn’t have too many issues with glitching in general fortunately. The story and cutscenes had me hooked and now it’s one of my favorite games ever. I doubt it’ll ever be remastered but if it was I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

Jeez. If I was going to make a list of the things wrong with the Batman Arkam City storyline it wouldn't be ANY of those. If I had to make a complaint it'd be, 1) Arkham city is an extremely stupid idea. I know that mind control was involved, but no one would give up prime real estate in new york city to turn it into a prison. It had a museum and an active steel mill for pity sakes! 2) The idea that Hugo strange would as he said make more Arkham cities in "Keystone" and "bludhaven when it basically failed within like a month or however long it was operating for to the point they needed to introduce protocol 10. It felt like the most contrived possible way they could have made a game where batman runs around in town and there's no civilians to worry about.
    3) I have mixed feelings about the joker actually dying. On the one hand it's nice that there actually was a death and someone didn't just come back from the dead as common in comic book stories, but the Joker? Especially when he died 3 feet from a Lazarus pit. Ultimately I love the series and it became a useful plot element in arkham knight, but it still felt like such a gut punch.

In all honesty, my favorite of the entire series is Batman Arkham ORIGINS. That's right. Origins is my favorite, for 3 main reasons.
    1) The best interpretation of Bane in any Medium. Bane is not just a physical powerhouse, he's also a cunning and disciplined mind. On top of that, not only is he a cunning brute, he is also a legitimate leader. Someone who both has the ability to lead but also the ability to inspire his men to be the best THEY can be. Top Notch.
    2) Deathstroke.
    3) IT has the best combat. Yeah, I mean it. It has the best combat of any of the games. It took what arkham city did and added to it. We got brutes and armored brutes, Venom users and best of all martial artists that were such an interesting change of pace for the fights. Arkham Knight removed the venom users, and the martial artists, and the their version of brutes was much worse. They also removed armored thugs entirely, which made both combat and predator challenges less challenging and fun, which is unforgivable. All they added in return was medics who could revive and add the electric shielding to certain enemies. Although I liked it, it really didn't change the way you fight in any meaningful way. You just have to use Batclaw a bit more often to stop the electricity, and it really doesn't take much effort to stop a guy from reviving another guy. A very marginal threat increase.

I agree with all your points. While some people hated the martial artists, I found them quite a fun add that made combat more involved for experienced players.
Though, I believe Knight and Origins had different approaches towards gameplay. Origins clearly preferred difficulty while Knight prioritized being in a flow state and didn't push difficulty as much as Origins.
While we could debate which is better, I believe both achieved what they wanted to do quite well.

      2) I really disagree, Deathstroke was a bitch in the game. Does nothing impressive and gets taken down by a rookie Batman in ONE fight, in one of the easiest fights in the Arkham series
      3) this is so wrong. It has the most unbalanced combat. I’d added nothing that made the combat more fun. The new enemies are nothing special and The electric gloves is just a “win button” that removes any and all challenge from the game. In what universe does it have a better combat then Arkham Knigbt

But the whole protocol ten story makes very little sens, but it's a comic book plot so who cares if it's unrealistic that a villain would manage to section off a whole district of Gotham with full authorisation from the government. What's more problematic is strange knowing batman's identity, (to my knowledge it's never explained how he finds that out), and never actually doing anything with that information... "Only You (And You Alone)", commonly shortened to simply "Only You", is a 1955 song recorded by the American vocal group The Platters.
The song was later featured in the 2011 DC video game Batman: Arkham City, where it is sung by the Joker on an answering machine shortly before his death. The song plays over the game's end credits. The Batman: Arkham City version was performed by the Joker's voice actor Mark Hamill.
The song later appeared in the 2018 video game Far Cry 5, as the theme for Jacob Seed's estate of Whitetail Mountains and on his music box.
    Lyrics:

I disagree about the story of City being unfairly criticized. I think there are some valid criticisms of City's story. Joker poisoning Batman being the catalyst to keep the story going is an underwhelming way to progress the plot. It makes it more about Batman's survival and less about the dynamic between Batman and Joker, not to mention sidelining the investigation of Protocol 10. Batman also is never really challenged much morally throughout the game even when faced with a big dilemma of either saving Talia or stopping Protocol 10, which he has to be persuaded by Alfred and Oracle to stop protocol 10 first. Sure, there are some good twists and an amazing ending, but the experience throughout is a huge step down from Asylum and the other games had much better stories. Also, minus the Catwoman parts, the story is pretty short, the shortest in the series.

I feel like people not fully understanding whats happening in Knight with the Titan isn't a valid criticism, its like skipping to season 3 of a show like Breaking Bad or the The Walking Dead with no knowledge of what happened before and complaining about being confused, you have to at least play through Asylum City and Knight to get the full story, Origins is more disconnected so you could skip it but its definitely worth playing too

All are incredible, full stop. They just don't make rugged and simple games like that anymore. Everything needs a ton of side missions, tons of complex mechanics, complicated or braindead stories, realistic graphics that give you headaches...

I won't talk about Knight since I've never played it but a criticism I have for the other games' story is:
Asylum - There was little attempt from the GCPD to infiltrate Arkham Island. I know Joker threatened to blow up parts of Gotham, but couldn't they have sent a small team specifically trained for these situations? And why didn't Batman alert everyone else that Joker was bluffing?
City - Even though Hugo Strange is introduced as the main villain I felt he was overshadowed by Joker. He even threatened to expose Batman's secret identity if he tried to stop him, but never does.
Origins - 2 of the 8 assassins, Deadshot and Shiva don't make it into the story which disappointed me as it could have led to more memorable bosses and given attention to lesser known villains. And while I personally don't think this, I could see someone else thinking it leaves the story unfinished or incomplete.
That being said I still Greatly enjoyed all them. The Killer Croc section in Asylum was both fun and terrifying, Killing off Joker in City was a bold choice and I respect that choice, and Origins holds a special place in my heart since not only was it the first Arkham game I played but the first video game EVER I played.

You explained the pros of knight very well it's the most refined in the series a technical Marvel that still holds up right but I only go back to it for the challenge maps the story has interesting missions like teaming up with Robin at the movie studios but city, Asylum and origins. But the arkham knight tie-in novel says batman was in denial about it being Jason Todd he knew (but it contradicts the game so it's not canon).
Asylum is definitely still fun and is my second favorite in the series I like the simplicity of Asylum.

Origins is not just the most underrated Batman game, but it also arguably could be the best out of the 4 Arkham games. It balances all the best aspects of the main Arkham trilogy, its got the bigger open world aspect of Knight, it's got the atmosphere of City, and its got the more streamlined and focused narrative of Asylum. On top of all that, it easily has the best boss fights of all the Arkham games, where Batman goes toe to toe with foes who are his physical equals. It balances everything I love about the Arkham games, which is why I lean towards it being the best.

When Batman: Arkham Knight was released in 2015, the much-anticipated game introduced players to a new feature: the fully drivable Batmobile. This iconic vehicle had been missing in the previous entries of the series, but its arrival in Arkham Knight was met with mixed reactions. Some players loved the added dimension to gameplay, while others criticized it for overshadowing traditional mechanics. However, much of the criticism directed at the Batmobile was unfounded. The Batmobile not only enhanced the game's mechanics, but it also deepened the immersion of the player into the role of Batman. Here are the reasons why the Batmobile did not deserve the heavy criticism it received.
    1. A True Batman Experience
One of the core reasons the Batmobile was a welcome addition to Arkham Knight is its central role in the Batman mythos. The Batmobile is as iconic as the Batsuit or Gotham City itself, and it plays a huge part in the Dark Knight's crime-fighting arsenal. Including it in Arkham Knight gave players a more authentic Batman experience, allowing them to patrol the streets of Gotham as Batman would in the comics and films. This added a sense of scale and power to the game that previous titles lacked, making the player feel even more like the Caped Crusader.
    2. Balanced Gameplay: On Foot vs. In Car
Critics of the Batmobile often argued that the vehicle was overused in the game, at the expense of the on-foot mechanics that defined previous entries. However, when breaking down the gameplay, the Batmobile is not as overbearing as some suggest. In fact, players spend approximately 60% of the game on foot, while 40% of the game involves the Batmobile. The game's missions are divided in such a way that players still spend the majority of their time engaging in hand-to-hand combat, stealth takedowns, and using Batman’s gadgets in classic Arkham style.
The Batmobile sections added a new layer of variety and allowed for different forms of problem-solving. Whether it's using the car to solve puzzles, chase enemies, or engage in vehicular combat, these sequences were designed to complement the on-foot sections, not replace them.
    3. Vehicle Combat Enhances Gameplay
Much of the Batmobile criticism centered on its tank-like combat mode, which some players felt was repetitive or out of place. However, this combat mode introduced a fresh element to the series: vehicular warfare. In many ways, the Batmobile's tank mode offered a strategic challenge that mirrored the hand-to-hand combat system the Arkham series is known for. The player had to dodge, counter, and time attacks carefully, similar to how they would in a fistfight with thugs. This added diversity to the game’s combat, keeping encounters from becoming monotonous.
Moreover, Rocksteady Studios, the developers of Arkham Knight, provided players with the option to alternate between vehicular and on-foot combat during certain missions, adding flexibility and player choice. Instead of simply shoehorning the Batmobile into the game, Rocksteady ensured it was an integral part of the design.
    4. Puzzles and Environmental Interactions
The Batmobile wasn’t just a combat tool; it was also essential for solving puzzles and interacting with the environment. This was a crucial part of what made Arkham Knight feel expansive and innovative. The vehicle’s winch system allowed players to pull down walls, power up generators, and even navigate terrain that Batman couldn’t cross on foot. These features highlighted how the Batmobile could serve as a unique problem-solving tool, pushing the player to think creatively.
In many ways, the Batmobile acted as an extension of Batman himself, allowing players to use it not only in action sequences but also in puzzle-solving and exploration. This made it more than just a gimmick but rather an essential part of the game’s world-building and narrative design.
    5. Replayability and Variety
With the introduction of the Batmobile, Rocksteady provided a wider variety of mission types. This included tank battles, races, and puzzle-solving challenges that would have been impossible on foot. These new mechanics increased the game's replayability, offering players different ways to approach the same mission, either by relying on the Batmobile or their traditional stealth and combat skills.
Additionally, the Batmobile’s diverse upgrade system allowed players to tailor its capabilities to their playstyle. Whether focusing on increased firepower, armor, or speed, this customization made the Batmobile feel more personal and interactive, akin to how Batman’s gadgets evolved in previous Arkham games.
    Conclusion: A Necessary Evolution
The Batmobile in Batman: Arkham Knight was a necessary evolution in the series, expanding the scope and variety of gameplay. While some players may have preferred more on-foot action, the balance between Batmobile sequences and traditional combat was not as skewed as critics suggest. With 60% of the game spent on foot and 40% involving the Batmobile, there was still a substantial focus on the hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and detective work that players loved from the previous games.
The Batmobile added depth, variety, and a true sense of being Batman, making it an essential feature that helped define Arkham Knight. It didn’t deserve the level of criticism it received but instead should be appreciated for the innovation and immersive experience it brought to the table.

Something I'm noticing about the arkham knight part especially is that there's this very common thing I'm seeing with video game opinions online, where a lot of people simply regurgitate the opinion of someone else, instead of coming to their own conclusions.
It happens constantly, ranging across all sorts of games and franchises, like Cyberpunk, Watch_Dogs, etc., where you'll just kinda have this general opinion become the "right" one despite it being relatively unfounded, since all the average person sees is people complaining about a game, instead of people talking about what they actually like about a game.

He got a huge dose of fear toxin right at the start of the game Batman fears becoming the joker. His fears get worse as the night progresses giving joker more power over his mind. At the end of the game Batman over comes his fear last line “I’m not afraid” and the joker disappears. In my head canon I just completely ignore the 4 ppl infected with his blood it makes 0 sense.

I agree 100% with your list. I think Origins and Asylum are undoubtedly the two most underrated. But because I’m a huge atmosphere guy, Asylum has always felt like the most authentic experience and it’s always been my favorite of the 4. It’s a genuine masterpiece imo and it’s one of the greatest games ever made. Personally, the gameplay has never felt dated or janky. I think the lack of options in combat and predator encounters enhances the claustrophobic feeling of the game. If the combat and stealth was as expansive as City or Knight, I don’t think the game would feel as eerie and dangerous as it does. Batman feels vulnerable. He feels like a guy trapped in a hostile environment. If you get caught by a group of armed henchmen, consider yourself dead. You can’t just fight Killer Croc like in Arkham Origins or Knight. You have to outsmart him and bide your time. As IGN would put it, the game makes you “feel like Batman”

Arkham Origins, for sure. In my opinion, it fixes the issues City had, while also improved the formula in a few ways.
The removal of titan henchmen for Bane thugs was a nice change. Titan henchmen were a nightmare for keeping your combo going in challenge maps.
The remote claw is one of the best gadgets in the franchise.
Adding a martial artist enemy type that needs to be countered twice threw me off hard at first.
Fast travel to easily get around for collectible hunting.
    Shock gloves are crazy fun.
Deathstroke as a playable character was awesome.
Chris Redfield leaving the BSAA to become Batman is how you do character growth. Guess BOW's became too boring and he needed to fight a clown.
The only stain on Origins was that godawful challenge track that had to be completed in order and at specific locations, and forcing armor upgrades before anything else, making the game too easy right at the beginning. You literally can't do no health upgrade challenges because of this. Annoying. I guess the needing to cross the bridge a bunch too? Didn't really bother me too much.
