    Anyone else know why these MRE videos are so satisfying to watch? Unbox effect? Maybe just like the idea of surviving in the wild? I don't camp and I'm not a bigtime military guy, but I love watching these.

      Friendly Metroid I have to wonder if it's the "Train Wreck Effect"... you see someone about to eat freeze dried eggs knowing it's gonna be nasty - but you just can't look away. I like watching these too for some reason. 😊

      A.E. King Haha yea you're probably right. Eating 20+ year old food is enough of a stunt to warrant the attention.

    If I was eating in the field I would have dropped the nuts and crumbled fig bars into the oat meal. Combo would have been great tasting and hearty.

    The MCW's are usually much heartier, more filling meals than regular MRE's. I think this is both by design and by accident. By accident because freeze dried meals are just better in that way in my opinion. Possibly by design in the fact that they are Arctic rations more or less, and you're going to need a higher calorie and nutrient intake to survive and stay fueled in those conditions. Great vid man keep it up!

      Expect for the salt content in some of the mains. You are talking about at least a full gram of sodium.

    Wornick could market these to backpackers. Give Mountain House some competition. Only thing this ration is missing are Chlorine Tablets for purifying water before boiling, and some proper fire-starters. I doubt they teach you how to do Feathersticks, or gather Pine Resin in the military...

    • @maximilianvonspee9329
      @maximilianvonspee9329 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Scowler from talking to friends in the marines they don't teach you that in basic but if you're a sniper or special forces you learn those things in survival school

    • @maximilianvonspee9329
      @maximilianvonspee9329 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Scowler basic point being you're correct, the average grunt isn't taught those skills

      Which is kind of insulting.

      Scowler what I said is insulting?

    • @baron8107

      Maximilian Graf Von Spee
      No, the fact that they don't teach basic stuff like that is essentially them assuming that Soldiers are too stupid to make some Fire-Curls on a piece of dry wood.
      Then again, the issued bayonets aren't that great for Batoning. Useless rat-tail tangs...

    Can you try some MRE's from countries with a smaller military? It would be cool to see how much they focus on their soldiers food.

    When I make the eggs and they are watery, I simply drain the water out of the pouch before I eat them. That way you don't have soupy eggs. Great review. Thanks for making it.

    I've watched several of your vids, and can I just proffer a bit of positive criticism? They are way too long for what needs to be covered. A lot of duplication in the commentary, like in the Russian review I think you mentioned about four times you didn't know what XYZ is. Well if you don't know, or cannot (off-line) find out, then just move along and open it up - then you will find out. But overall good reviews, just a lot of extra time taken.

    So this ration requires one standard canteen of water? 8oz+8oz+8oz+6oz=30oz.
    Interesting. Looks like the designers are making sure the consumer is taking enough fluids.

      Also no water purification tabs included, i guess they assume you can melt a whole bucket of snow.

      Nathan's MRE Thats what they tell you to do, but melting snow is a pain in the ass.

    • @jooger69

      Melting snow is a lot easier than melting ice.

    • @No_Lucks_Given
      @No_Lucks_Given 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      jooger69 not really, snow is mostly air so it melts faster, but you get less water. If you have a pot and fire, solid ice is way better.

    I ate these when I was stationed in alaska, honestly I prefer the normal ones. I supposed that its good to have something in case of not having somewhere to store the MREs, but for me, we always had somewhere that was at least 0 degrees to store the normal ones.

    Is freeze dried better than dehydrated when it comes to preserving the original flavor and original texture ? I'm pretty sure they both are disappointing but which is closes to the natural state when reconstituted ?

  • @MultiMagnum62
    @MultiMagnum62 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review !! Everyone seems to love the MCW'S. Rare, and better taste with the freeze dried items. All items looked very good sir. What few times I do eat oatmeal, I do like it thicker, agreed. Eggs, and oatmeal, if too much water, soupy texture, if too little water, dry corners. Danged if you do, Danged if you Don't, you do the best you can. Love the Tabasco myself. Bacon and eggs, good meal, add Tabasco, better. Great job again friend, Peace, John.

    I have a few MREs for the late 80s or early 90s. I've dared some friends to eat them, but they never did. They've been stored in a stable environment. If you're interested in them, I am sure we can make an arrangement. I'd certainly trade for modern MREs. I'm guessing that you have plenty from that era, but I just thought I'd ask......

    You should dump the excess water out of the eggs.... Maybe it's just me, but I don't like soupy eggs! I'll have to bring this one camping sometime - I have a couple cases of MCW's...

      If one is not doing a lot of physical activity I would say that one could split that cold weather ration into two meals and be fine considering that the oatmeal would be one entree and the eggs would be another. You would not be full but you would have enough calories to function normally. MRE's are not really that good for backpacking due to size and the weight to calorie count ratio. Some really good high calorie foods like peanut butter, honey and block cheese to go with some crackers or adding olive oil to your pasta would be better if you were backpacking. Also olive oil will keep you regular unlike an MRE which could also stand for Meals Refusing to Evacuate.

    Tray.
    Conveniently designed to hold fluids. As in when putting water into MRE containers requiring water to reconstitute.
    (Getting difficult to continue watching these, I'm sorry to say, but having the narrator call out every. Single. Operation. os becoming tedious.
    Next up, telling us your long the hairs grew during any one rehydration operation.
    (YAWN!)
    Well, I can no longer stomach this guy/channel. Needs to do a Self Review of his procedures and presentation to engage his subscriber base/viewership.
    As for me, I'm outta here.
