  • 5DEV has exploded on the mountain bike crank scene with an eye-catching industrial design available in multiple lengths CNC'd from high-grade aluminum. Join Adam Schaeffer of The Downhill Zone in Issaquah WA and me as we discuss the pros and cons of crank selection for rugged PNWmtb riding.

$500 for something that has the same performance level and weight as GX aluminum that are much cheaper.
Bottom line 5dev aren’t really that special.

The key is the sizing availability they have, going much lower than 165mm.

      They snap pretty easy too

Most of their pricing is most likely due to them being a small, Made in the U.S.A. business. Until they were to reach the mass production level or they see that as a business, no one's buying their product at their current pricing, would they potentially consider reducing MSRP.
One of the better "reviews" or "feedback" vids, of these cranks, I've watched. No frills, not echoing what a lot of others are, and pretty straight forward!👍

just ordered some 5dev in black for my new Tyee build. i have 30" inseam, so the 155mm should be perfect. yes, they fill a void in the market that iirc only Hope is doing atm. these are beautiful, cant wait till they show up at my door.

I just don't understand the cost of 5dev cranks. They're cool-looking and I'm certain they're good quality, but $500 seems insane to me. What are you getting for that money? There's no way it's even remotely that costly to machine these. To each their own, though.

I think at 165mm and up GX or XT/SLX are hard to beat, especially if you need to keep a 52mm chainline. All the Transmission stuff is 55mm. 5 Dev claims 52 and 55 compatibility. If you want AL AND

Sram eagle are the best carbon cranks on the market.. definitely stay away from race face cranks I have broken three of them. 5dev seems to be a great company waiting for them to come out and colors and maybe titanium in the future!!

May I ask what Raceface crank you broke 3 of? Turbine, Aeffect, Atlas or one of the carbon ones?
There are great reviews of Atlas cranks, but I have seen the carbons just separating ... but all brands pretty much....

Agreed. I’m loving my XX1 carbon cranks but I hate taking them off. The threads are so small it seizes up and requires more than a breaker bar to crack loose.

      Gonna +1 for RaceFace = 💩!
I've had 2 disappointments from that company and don't ever see contributing any more of my hard earned money, directly to that company, moving forward.
