    paulwilsongolf...
    In this tip I show you the best effortless golf swing drill to turn your arms off. I call it taming the wild stallion. For most golfers, not hitting with the arms is tough but this is one of the main keys to learn and effortless golf swing. Here's the best drill to turn your arms off and stop hitting the ball hard with just your arms.
    Since 1991, I have taught a powerful, effortless, pain-free golf swing to golfers of all ages and abilities. So why learn and effortless golf swing? This type of swing is a swing for life. In order to learn it you need to do something different that what you have done in the past. I have found that this is the best effortless golf swing drill that will allow you to turn your arms off. This is step one. Once you stop hitting hard with your arms you can then start adding body rotation to generate the power. In other words this drill allows you to switch the power source from arms to legs and hips.
    Most golfers hit the ball solely with their arms. The problem is you will never hit your best shots plus as you get older you will get weaker which means you will only ever lose power. For the sake of doing what I call the best effortless golf swing drill you can make the switch to a body swing quickly and have it for life.

    9:40 - This was the drill that got me the break-through. Just pause the video and press the period key to go frame by frame. If you watch closely, Paul lays the shaft of the club on his neck muscle, keeps his hands as far away from his neck as he can without losing a good grip. Don't worry about the lead arm being bent a little, it's just a drill to get snappy wrists. He starts the swing with his lower body and the shaft stays on his neck and shoulder for a long time while he rotates the lower body. The two very important things to notice is; 1. His trail arm stays at his side for the entire downswing. It's not out in front of him, nor is it too far behind him. This very important. 2. Look how extreme the wrist compression is (wrist cock). This is at 9:45, and the video must be in frame by frame mode to see this. His hips and body are pointing towards the sand bunker to the right out in front of him, but look at the driver head. It's pointing BACK at the camera, almost straight up the target line. From there he just keeps rotating and SNAP the wrist joints will release. If you don't feel a snap in your wrist joints, you are still too tense. I first loosened by grip and wrists and got the SNAP. Then I slowly tightened my grip and kept feeling for the snap, and it worked. The club will feel real heavy in the wrists and hands when you do it right. From that point on, you'll never ever swing the same again. It's almost like you're cheating, it's that good.

      This one is all the way from Australia mate ! Gooday ! I have studied every video of yours I can find. I thought you had gone mad with your putting tip but to my astonishment it has worked amazingly for me. Regarding your full swing, over the last two weeks, my game has been transformed from an arm swing to your body swing. I’m finally getting the idea of it, particularly the wrist snap. I laughed out loud today when playing alone on my golf course. I normally hit a driver about 230 m. I knew I had driven straight today, but I couldn’t find several balls. They were 30 m further than I normally hit a driver!
      I will love you forever.! Cheers, Dennis

      Glad you found me. I have a pretty big following in Australia. Maybe someday I'll get there. Yes, the putting tip is amazing. I am putting a heart beside everyone who tried it and posted their results. Their comments are great. Sounds like you are getting it. The snap is huge. This gets you the clubhead speed. Then you just attach the arm unit to your body and BOOM you've got it all of the time. Great feeling. Keep at it.

    I played my 1st round trying this yesterday focusing on eliminatingmy arms....very encouraging results.
    Observation.....i was actually a bit sore up around my hips like the feeling you get when you you work unused musles after exercising. Am i imagining this? Started noticing this around hole 16.

      Very good. So glad you tried it and can see the power in it. As for the hips if you don't use your arms you will use your body. Keep at it. This soreness is telling you that you are starting to use them. Keep at it. Just don't overdo it.

    Hi Paul. I have been working tirelessly for two weeks to convert my arm. Swing to a body swing. I have finally got the idea. I laughed out loud today when I couldn’t find several drives that I hit straight down the fairway. I finally discovered them about 30 to 40 yards further than I was used to looking for them. At age 73, I would hit my drives about 240 yards. Today they were approaching 280 yards. Long live the wrist snap. I will love you forever!

      Very good. So glad you keep at it. Great feeling when you get it. Even greater feeling when you realize this takes so little effort you can do it for life. Truly mind boggling that I have to convince people to do this. This should be the biggest channel on YT. I will keep doing what I do and at some point I hope everyone starts doing it.

    Explains things very well. I wish that all instructors were more consistent in their approach to teaching
    It seems to me that everyone teaches a bit different which makes golf more difficult than it needs to be . Maybe this comes down to more training these guys to be more consistent with everyone

      I have always thought of the student and what they are even capable of doing. Most tips out there are teaching the average person things they cannot and will not ever do and it's complicated. Needs to be easy and simple. Then people will get it and hopefully try it.

    Thank you. At 72 yrs old I was struggling to get out of shooting in the 90s. I watched your best putting tip video and effortless swing video. I put these feedbacks from your videos to use yesterday. I shot 82. Didn’t 3 putt at any time. Long putts left me in tap in range. And the swing felt effortless. Some old arm swing and hitting at the ball crept in. Just remembered the long straight shots and went back to turning off the arms. My brother who I played with is a scratch golfer and wondered if I spent the day at the range. Told him I didn’t get a chance to go. He was very impressed. Long comment I know. Just had to say it all came together. No more searching for TH-cam golf tips. Just Paul Wilson for me.

    This is awesome Paul. When I'm on the range, regardless of the club I'm practicing with, I use it to hit to the 100/120 yardage markers, be it wedge, 5 iron, or 5 wood. Obviously I have to tone down the swing speed, but I personally find it a great drill to get timing and rhythm. Thanks for all you do.

    Paul - this is a great tip that really resonated with me. My handicap index is 10.2, and over the last couple of weeks, me scores went up into the low 90's because I slipped into the habit of trying to hammer tee shots and iron shots, which resulted in inconsistent ball striking. I utilized this tip during our Senior League this morning, and hit every shot solid and straight, which resulted in a solid round of 75. I've bookmarked this tip to review again if I ever start trying to hammer it with the arms again!

    Great drill! I used your 2/3 drill as a starting point, and then try to add 10m for each of the next shots until I feel the arms “taking over” again. Then I stop and begin at 2/3 again. Works best in a simulator, where you can see the distance and don’t really care about how many balls you hit.

    Great drill. One question: 20 years ago, I tried a similar swing, taking the arms out of it. In David Leadbetters book at the time, he advocated upper arms against torso and start the swing with the belly button. I practiced this religiously for 6-8 months and eventually began making the best iron shots of my lifep; I could flush and fade and draw the ball at will. My hands would obediently follow my belly button. However, tho this swing was consistent, it didn't add any length to my shots and I was never able to transfer it to my driver. Eventually ego won out. I reverted back to my old hand/arm method I played with in early life. I was a 2 in my twenties and until a few years ago, shot regularly in the high 70's, including a 75 from the back tees in a tournament at Riviera. The armless swing drills you advocate remind me a lot of the Leadbetter method. And the drills, especially laying the club on your shoulder and letting the body swing it......feels very easy. But I want to regain my speed. Any advice for me going forward? Really appreciate your wonderful ability to explain things in simple terms. Thank you.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The difference is that you locked your arms against your sides and used the belly button but your wrists were tight so you didn't get the clubhead speed. I went to Leadbetter years ago. In no way did they ever talk about loose wrists. So you need to be way way way way way looser in your wrists. You get the power through uncoiling and allowing the loose wrists to generate speed. This drill is to get people to stop hitting with the arms. If you know how to do that already then work on these 2 drills. Do that for 30 days and you will hit it longer than you can imagine:
      th-cam.com/video/SfIM2GWj9Cs/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/hJeAcEYbvhM/w-d-xo.html
      Years ago, I had a scratch player do drill 1. He took it from 250 to over 300 setting the course record at the course where the Canadian Open was held. He was already using his hips. That would be like you doing the Leadbetter stuff. Same thing. So do the wrist drill for 30 days too.

    Mr. Wilson, I've watched your videos for years. I truly believe you honestly want everyone to become a better golfer. That being said, I watched a video from a gal on youtube talking about not using the arms and hands on chips and pitch shots. I tried that and immediately started hitting the ball farther without even trying!!! So, I wonder if you're right? I'll try the same technique with my full irons. I'm betting it will work!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I am right. Been teaching the same thing since 1991. If it didn't work I wouldn't be doing it. It is different and you need to learn it. So take your time. This tip is a good one to start with. You master this and you take the arms out completely. If you are not using your arms to hit the ball you are using your body. At this point you will hit it better than ever. You'll see. This is also a swing for life. You don't need to be strong to be loose.

    I'm 78 and found a few things to help with adopting Paul's swing....taking a slightly narrower stance compared to my "muscle it" stance, practice his swings many times over before trying to use it on the course/range, swinging a couple of clubs together to warm up helped me duplicate his swing during my practice time (muscle memory), don't worry about distance on the range/course...just try to duplicate his swing first until it becomes second nature.

      I like the narrower stance for sure. A wide stance creates all sort of issues. Not too narrow though. Yes, do the practice swings as much as possible. That is great. You can literally do this without hitting any balls. Don't worry about distance. Yes, I like this. Get it. Get good at it. Then increase if you need more distance. You are on track. Good job. I like it when people take the words out of my mouth. Keep at it.

  • @John-wx9oy
    @John-wx9oy ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It began as a small inconsequential thing and ended in complete catastrophe. All I wanted to do was modify my backswing a little, and it daisy chained into a series of changes that altered everything. In a week I went from pretty consistent iron play to mishitting almost every shot. I was absolutely lost in the wilderness and had no idea where I was.
    My first instinct was to put the clubs away and not touch them for a few weeks in the hopes this malaise would somehow miraculously pass. But deep down I knew it wasn't the answer, so I started doing swing drills. For a week I did nothing but hundreds of swing drills; around and around; shoulder and hip turn; fire the lower body; keep the arms turned off and the wrists loose. In the heat of the day and in the winds of passing hurricane Idalia, I stood in the yard and drilled. I am now happy to say the demons have been exorcised.
    Thank you, Paul. You helped me recover my golf sanity, and more importantly, how to maintain it.

      I can certainly relate. Been there done that. Not fun. So glad you decided to do only practice swings. The ball is the problem. No ball means no hitting. Staying loose is huge too of course. Well chipping is a stoke like putting so none there pitching is a short versi9n of you real swing. Not too many people trying to hammer a 30 yard pitch. So do the drill on fully shots and it will slow you down on shorter ones

      Very too late. Just follow along. You want it fast then do the wild stallion drill and watch this one too: th-cam.com/video/LAejvDbw_aA/w-d-xo.html Got to get the arms out of it first. So reduce the balls you are hitting and do practice swings. Get rid of the hitting then it's adding body for power.

      Then you have come to the right place. It is simple. You need to hinge and rehinge your wrists. Then you attach this arm unit to your body which is coiling and uncoiling. There is the tilt as well but leave that out as you get the components of the swing. Typically, if a person is here for lessons, I work on the hinge first. Sorry, before that I would work on a neutral grip then stand them up taller (a lot of people are too bent over - not too tall but not bent over - athletic like short stop position). Here is the grip:
      th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html
      The you hinge and rehinge first to understand what your wrists are going to do:
      th-cam.com/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/w-d-xo.html
      Once you get the concept you hinge going back then roll the wrists so you hook every shot. This delofts the club and gets you about 30-50 more yards. Yes, they will be pull hooking. Doesn't matter as this is step 1. So 7 iron teed up 1/2 inch. Going into your backswing and hinge. Then as you go to come down you roll. Hinge and roll and get it hooking:
      th-cam.com/video/M868QsTlGt4/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/p4vASmOzkPg/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/N-nGM6yN790/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/yHEv7G9Z5-0/w-d-xo.html
      Once you can consistently hook every ball you remember this feeling as you start switching to the legs and hips. So no you hit the top. You fire your legs and hips and allow it to roll as you hit the ball.
      th-cam.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/w-d-xo.html
      You watch your ball. If you still pull hook it you need to fire the lower harder/quicker. If you blow it right that is too hard. Slow down. You are watching your ball until you get it on target using the legs and hips.
      Watch:
      th-cam.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/w-d-xo.html
      I would watch this one too thinking about what I just said:
      th-cam.com/video/gTLvRsjwfIM/w-d-xo.html
      After you get that and you want more power you need to fire the lower body quicker/faster. This is the power source.
      Do this drill daily at home:
      th-cam.com/video/THm6SktFifk/w-d-xo.html
      There go. You have work to do.

    But doesnt that drill create a feeling of decelerating at impact which you would not want? How else do you hit a full swing to go 50% less distance? What am I missing...thanks

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Who cares. If you are decelerating the arms you are NOT accelerating the arms. This is what I want. Need to turn them off. This drill will do that. If you hit in any way with your arms it will go past the 2/3 point. Plus, you are not doing this forever. You are doing this to turn your arms off. At this point you are speed them up with your body.

    • @MStar10

      @@paulwilsongolf We care, i think its a valid question to understand. Especially since many of us have been taught to accelerate through impact. But anyhow, I think I understand now what you are saying that its just a temp practice aid - I'll give this a try. Thank you so much!

    How do you turn your arms off while setting your wrist hinge at the top of your backswing and in front of you in the follow thru?
    It’s hard to separate the actions.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, if your wrists are tight and you are not hinging the club you need to get them hinging. To do this you will feel your arms and wrists. Once you unlock your wrists and have the hinging and rehinging you work on your body coiling and uncoiling. Loosening up is great but you need to get the swing working. Last step it to stop hitting or helping the shot with your arms. So work on this first:

      th-cam.com/video/URlX7BBFohc/w-d-xo.html

      th-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/w-d-xo.html
      I would work on snapping them too and get the ball hooking:
      th-cam.com/video/M868QsTlGt4/w-d-xo.html
      Once you get arm unit working switch to body:
      Coil in the backswing. Uncoil to hit it.
      Let me know if you need help with coiling and uncoiling or you can just search for these on the channel and they will come up. I would watch this too so you know how your body is going to straighten out the hooks:

      Glad you are now "in." Only took you how many years to realize hitting hard is not working? The problem with hitting hard is that if I feed the person enough balls no matter how bad their swing is they will hit a few good ones. So you know what they think? I've got it! Problem is that was luck. So 30 years later they are still hoping that magically one day they can do it all the time. This day never comes. As I will keep saying kids have no or minimal arm strength. Many 12 year olds or younger can out drive older stronger adults. If they can do this we need to be copying what they are doing. So ... turn the arms off completely. This loosens the wrists, widens the arc etc. th-cam.com/video/nxPegIT6O9Q/w-d-xo.html
      If your arms are turned off you would have to use the body to power the swing. Once you do that you create serious power with no effort. Get that and you will have it for life because you don't have to be strong to be loose. Do this:
      th-cam.com/video/LAejvDbw_aA/w-d-xo.html
      Also, the problem with taking long breaks is that when you come back to playing human nature is telling you to hit the object sitting in front of you and hit it hard. I have taught countless people in this scenario. This gets the previously decent player to be terrible when the start playing again because they are now solely hitting with the arms. So, you cannot take long breaks. You need to at least be doing daily practice swings at home to keep your body working and arms loose. Stay focused. You will be hitting it great in no time.

    For the past couple of weeks, I've been working on my lower body rotation and getting my hands down in the downswing. Martin Hall used a visualization of swinging a club while standing in waist high water. On the downswing, the hands should break the surface before the clubhead. It couples well with your emphasis on lower body power and rotation. But I became so concentrated on rotation and hands that I allowed tension to creep back into my arms and wrists. I was striking the ball well enough, but almost never really flush and aim was inconsistent. Then I realized my arms weren't loose. On the swings where I get all of these things right...oh my word. I'm still trying to get it all wired into my brain to work together consistently. This drill will be very helpful in getting the arms loose first.
    You may not have posted here lately, Paul, but we still remember you.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly. Got to understand "why" the majority of golfers cannot do this. There has to be a reason. Well, the reason is they started as adults with arm strength. Big difference between adults and kids. Once you know the difference and why kids accel quickly you need to figure out how to turn your arms off. The main problem is everyone wants instant results. So they turn the arms off for a few balls and hit it nowhere so they start hitting again to hit shots like they used to. They have to realize this is a new way to swing and it takes a little work to make the switch. The payoff is huge if they do. Glad you are seeing it and are with me.

      Well, if you have a physical issue and can't turn all the way through you need to turn however far you can. This may cause pushes so you need to get the ball to hook back. To do this you need a very slightly strong grip with the 2 V's pointing at your shoulder. Then you need super loose wrists to get the power and the release. Just work on this:

    Would you also say that the snap is delayed until the hips start to turn during downswing?

      I have fixed countless people who took a break from golf get their swing back. It's easy because they have used their body in the past. Take the break and you start hitting with the arms (which will never work). I just need to get them to loosen the wrists and use their body again to power the swing.
      Watch this first to understand why taking a break lost your swing:
      th-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/w-d-xo.html
      Work on this first:
      th-cam.com/video/M868QsTlGt4/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/p4vASmOzkPg/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/N-nGM6yN790/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/yHEv7G9Z5-0/w-d-xo.html
      Get the ball hooking and loose the wrists. Once you can do that you then start firing the lower body harder/quicker/faster to straighten it out. Not sure what your downswing trigger is but something in your legs and hips you use to hit the ball.
      This is the easiest trigger:
      th-cam.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/w-d-xo.html
      As you do this there is timing between the release and the legs and hips so you need to watch this to learn exactly how hard you need to fire your hips:
      th-cam.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/w-d-xo.html
      This is literally days or a week or two of work maximum to get it back.
      Keep me posted.

  • @method341
    @method341 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Paul, I can draw my irons now but still slicing my driver. Do I need to stay behind it a bit longer? When I try to roll the wrists over, i hit these low pull draws but it's not really what I want to see because it's hard to replicate on the golf course over 18 holes.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So are you not seeing both steps? You hook it. As you do you are jumping up and down saying YES! I am doing half right. Once you can do that consistently you switch your thought to firing your legs and hips. You hit the top and turn your hips lets say. The arms follow. Just as you come through you feel the release you were just doing. BOOM! dead straight. If if pulls you need to fire the lower quicker. If you blow push it you fired too hard. Watch me do it with a student here first:
      th-cam.com/video/q5RojTx5sHI/w-d-xo.html
      Then watch this:
      th-cam.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/w-d-xo.html
      So see it how I see it. Keep hooking it until you know it's going to hook before you hit it. Then slowly switch to body. The ball will tell you how hard you need to fire the lower.

      Glad you found me. This is a step. Once you get it you get the "hit" out of your swing. At this point start adding some hips. Don't go crazy hard. If so, you will tighten up again. Add a little get some more distance then do it again and so on. If you loose it from getting too excited go down a notch and build it back up again. Hitting hard with the arms will never work. I just saved you about 30 years of driving yourself crazy.

I later tried to swing harder and reached 97-98 mph, but I felt I was putting in 30% more effort for an additional 3-5 mph. I was very frustrated, I'm tired of hitting my driver 230-240 and I want some speed. I've heard you teach this before but I never really tried it, but I'll give it a shot over the next month.

      @@paulwilsongolf Okay Paul, here's an update. What I did not tell you was that I had a problem with hitting the center of the club face, I would often hit heel shots. I would hit my driver 219 or 260, depending upon my face contact. I tried to work on hitting the center of the club face over the past 1-2 years and I went through about 20-30 cans of foot spray. I tried everything, I saw your drill on how to move your hips properly "A simple drill to clear your hips" and 2 things started to happen. 1) I started to hit the center of the club face and 2) I went from an average of 94 mph to 101 mph. Wow!!! I haven't even tried your drill above yet but if I'm hitting the center of the club face and I gained 6 mph, without even trying, imagine what I'm capable of doing. I can't explain how much this means to me. I take care of my father who is 95 and I went home and told him the good news. Moving my hips properly has changed my game. I've fluctuated from 10 hcp to a 14 hcp average but if I'm hitting the center of the club face with more speed this should cause me to become a single digit handicapper. I can't thank you enough. I'll try the drill above out but with the new hip turn I can't wait to see what happens, once again thanks. I'll let you know in 30 days what happens. I would love one day to meet you in person and shake your hand, I'll buy the steak and cold beer. Thanks, Paul

      That's great. So glad you are hitting the center of the face. Too bad you didn't find me earlier. I would have saved you money on the foot spray. I show people what is going to work based on what the average person can even handle. This save them years of learning. It is truly mind boggling that I even have to convince people to do this stuff but as you said if they don't see amazing shots in 2 seconds they quit and go right back to a golf swing that will never work. Medium deep where you think you can actually hit it half decent you need to open the face. Do your grip then as you set up turn the face so it looks open. Then do your swing. This is key - Paul my best year of golf was a loose effortless swing the first time you put this out. Then I lost it, went back to whacking probably from too many best ball outings. Thanks.

      Yeah, those are swing killers. You had it so you know you can do it. Here is how to get it back:

      Paul I got it back! and it's interesting how. Just before league this afternoon I was at my son's house bench pressing with him I gassed my arms pretty good. When I got on the course my weak arms were swinging like a pendulum and I dropped 9 strokes from my normal 9 this year. I'm ecstatic!@@paulwilsongolf
