    The headcover analogy is a great one, Paul. Yesterday I recommended your videos to another fellow golfer and made him write your name down so he wouldn't forget. Over the past 10 years I'll bet I've done the same for at least 50 golfers. Wish there was a way to know how they turned out. Your concept of the golf swing is so important to me you make me feel like a preacher. I'm now 85 and have shot my age 206 times (I keep track of everything!). Not one of those times came until after I found your first video. You're the most important golf teacher on the internet!

      Yes, so simple. Hopefully, I am finally getting people to understand it but again it troubles me. 80 to 90% do a chicken wing. I post fixes and yet these are the worst performing tips I do. Unreal. I guess people don't video their swing and know they have a chicken wing. This is really one of the main things holding people back. Thank you for the promo. I truly appreciate the help. So many people struggling and year after year I see them being taught the same things that will never work. You are proof that what I teach does work. At some point enough people will try it and benefit from it that it takes off. Too bad everyone is not talking about this. I guess I just have to wait it out.

    Oh Paul, this is so useful. I learned to play golf at 40 and as you said, I learned by using my arms - not my body. 2024 is the season I use my body for power. Thank you

    Great video Paul. I’m working through eliminating a chicken wing and getting my hips opened up at contact. I was hitting it fat and shanking it at first, and I’ve corrected that by moving away from the ball a bit at setup and working on some ball striking drills. But initially i could not change my swing and make a good strike so I would revert back to swinging with my arms when i played a round. You should consider doing a video about how to transition to your new swing and take what you’re practicing to the course….just a thought. Love your channel.

    You touch on this all the time Paul, and it's a consequence of a dominant swinger of the clubs using arms, not body. This is one damn tough habit to break. I can kick back at any practice range and see swings over and over of what you're not supposed to do, as compared to your tips. Everything is jerky, out of balance, and looks like a complete waste of time and energy. I appreciate all your tips, and have been working hard to incorporate them in my own swing and the results have been very positive. It's only been about 3 weeks using them, so the tendency to slip and regress at times is always there, but the cool thing I like is how simple it is to fix and move forward. Years of swinging wrong don't disappear super fast, but your tips have given me the quickest, simplest ways to change for the better. Repetition will help cure those regressions from time to time. Thanks.

      We all want more and more. You need to keep telling yourself swinging harder will not give you more. You run the risk of losing your swing, tightening the wrists, twisting the face and narrowing your arc. Get it at a smooth rate of speed. I say 50% because your 50% is actually 70-80%. As you get better you get confident. If you get confident you will naturally do it faster and hit it even longer.
      th-cam.com/video/utFggMFjtng/w-d-xo.html
      Yes, watching others is an eye opener. I see this all the time at our range. It is literally person after person trying to hammer it as hard as they can. You can easily spot the better players. They are literally putting in half the energy for twice the result.
      You are still just learning it and you have seen some great results so you are on your way. I hope you are doing daily practice swings. I would be hinging and rehinging. Then doing practice swings at knee high. Think coil then fire the lower to start the downswing and let it go. Wonder if anyone did this:
      th-cam.com/video/LAejvDbw_aA/w-d-xo.html
      No real replies yet on that one so I guarantee no one did it. Too bad. I am handing this to everyone on a silver platter and they don't do it. Not you though. Stay focused. You are close.

    This video is $. Thanks Paul. Have had a bad shank for a month now, and I've always had a chicken wing. Went to your no tension swing and turned off my arms and using my body. And swing through the ball not at the ball is another huge key. It's night and day and I'm hitting it farther now.

    Paul, your videos have helped me drop my handicap by 5 strokes. Your ideas and analogies resonate with me and obviously with so many people as proven by the comments on your videos. Thank you! I do have a question that seems related to this video. When I (and I have seen many other people do this too) take practice swings I make easy loose-armed swings. When I put a ball in front of that swing I tense up and make an entirely different swing. How do I make the real swing the same as my practice swing? It is so frustrating.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's great. So glad you found me and are seeing improvement. Heard this a million times. If you tighten you are hitting. This is due to the ball sitting in front of you are human nature telling you to hit it.
      th-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/w-d-xo.html
      So you need to understand you are not hitting anything. You need to find a point B to your swing. This is what I teach in my Body Swing products. I hint at it here but I don't give everything away.
      th-cam.com/video/gIp4ifKuZIw/w-d-xo.html
      Watch this one. It will give you the idea.
      Taking it from the range to the course: you need to go out by yourself with 3 extra golf balls in your pocket. Don't keep score. Swing no more than 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change? With driver, you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets, your thought is to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Irons, I would be taking one more club and trying to hit the center of the green not the pin. Swing smoothly. Throughout the round you could be doing practice swings holding the club in the air hinging and rehinging to keep the wrists loose and other times you can be holding it in the air firing your legs and hips so you get used to the feeling of using them as the power source not the arms. Do this for a few rounds by yourself until you get used to a new way of swinging. Right now, if you play with others you will think distance and you will revert back to your old swing. It is all about doing something new. It takes a little time to get used to it. Also, don't forget to do daily practice swings at home.

    • @JerryAntetomaso
      @JerryAntetomaso ปีที่แล้ว

      I always thought of the issue as the equivalent of the yips. It’s not! Your reinforcement that I neesd to go against human nature and to stop hitting is starting to make a difference. It may take time but your advice seems to be working, at least it is starting to at times. Thank you Paul

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you see it. It is you not hitting anything. Your arms are not arms. They are an extension from an axis. It is that simple. To stop doing it though require the person to get used to new feelings. If they don't do it enough they will go right back to hitting and buckling. So work the hinge back and forth while holding on tight. This unlocks the wrist joint is a vital part of this. Just do this drill:
      th-cam.com/video/SfIM2GWj9Cs/w-d-xo.html
      No joke that alone will get rid of it. Then you add the body and voila you have a golf swing. So you could do this drill too:
      th-cam.com/video/hJeAcEYbvhM/w-d-xo.html
      Stya focused and do them for 30 days in practice swings.

  • @steves3422

    Yes -- getting closer. Not easy to turn off the arms after a couple of decades -- so will keep working it. When I get it right, much easier swing (effortless). Easy to say, lots of practice to get there. Thank You!

      For some it is a tricky. Got to commit. This means not your best shots for a little while. They will come in the future once you switch the power source to the legs and hips. Just do this until mastered. This would be step 1:

    Paul great stuff. In one month you have knocked 10 shots off my score. 9 iron all the way to 3 iron I hit straight. Never did I before I followed your stuff. And more distance as well! My one current hurdle is 3 wood and Driver. I still have a medium slice on those clubs. I think loose wrists. The way I do with irons. And I’m getting my body turned the same as I do with irons. Do you think I need to turn my body faster? When I try I all the sudden shank shots or completely mishit. Even though I feel I’m staying loose arms and wrists. Anyway thanks for all you do!!!

    Love this swing method and Paul’s teaching is top knotch. Really no one better but when I do this swing my mid back really aches. I think it’s the separation of upper and lower body on the downswing putting a twist right there. Not sure how to get around it. I turn my belt buckle to the target and let the upper body lag and get pulled by the lower. Maybe I’m interpreting wrong.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you are on board. Sounds like you are holding the upper too much as you fire the lower. I want the legs and hips to fire ahead of the club coming down not the whole upper body. Do it slower too. I get a lot of people always trying to do everything at top speed. Just get it then speed it up. In no way should my swing hurt your body. If it does, you are doing it wrong. If you still have pain post a video and send me a link so I can dee it.

    • @jawjuh1005
      @jawjuh1005 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulwilsongolf yes I am guilty of going full speed. So it’s okay to let the upper go with the lower. That should solve it. I feel like I’m pretty good at relaxing the arms and hands in fact I usually don’t feel them much at all. I’ll do as you say and slower. Thank you!!

    Chicken Wing is the wave of the future in golf I predict. I plan on implementing it starting tomorrow. What I like about this technique I developed for the golf industry is that it takes the hands out of the golf putting stroke and relies on the swinging of the shoulders alone.

    HI Paul. I am extending my arms to a point after the ball, but i am having an issue of scooping the ball, which causes me to lose 10-15 yards of distance on my irons. Is there a fix for that?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, you need to roll it from the top and get hooking it. To hook it you would be delofting it. So you need to see the left left shots as a good thing. Most would stop hooking it thinking they were hitting bad shots. This is half right. You are getting the release. So you hook ball after ball. I would be doing it with a 7 iron on a tee. Once you can hook 10 in a row then remember this feeling. On ball 11 you hit the top and think about the lower body. So it starts first then just before impact you let it release. So it's 2 steps. Get step 1 then move to step 2. Start with this (step 1):
      th-cam.com/video/OFJOLBSXSfQ/w-d-xo.html
      Then roll it from the top and get it consistently hooking (this is step 1):
      th-cam.com/video/8ro_1NYPd8c/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/GnQ2FfdQBDo/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/vpyg3PkrAkk/w-d-xo.html
      Once you can consistently hook it you start to add body to straighten it out (step 2). To do that, you can use this trigger:
      th-cam.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/w-d-xo.html
      So simple.

    Hi Paul; we've all seen the headcover under the armpit drill but I tried using it between my elbow & ribs for a chicken wing because it can stay in your armpit if your upper arm is against your chest. The elbow is what separates from the body, not the upper arm so does it not make sense to use the object against the elbow for a chicken wing?

    Sir, in my case, my chicken wing is from early "release", i.e., "helping it with my hands", and in order to NOT hit it fat, I stand up and chicken wing-it! Hogan's head dropped 4" on average between address and impact (from bending and pushing off his back foot to initiate the swing)... I actually stand UP! (to compensate for early release). Maybe I'll go back to tennis....(because correcting this issue is the hardest thing I've ever attempted to fix)
