Here's my anecdotal: My brother's family went on a trip to Okinawa (warm climate and less populated) during Christmas holidays, whole family was sick with respiratory symptoms during their trip and my niece even needed a doctor's consultation at a local hospital. Same happened to some 2 colleagues who went with their families to Tokyo and Osaka, all came back sick. I went to Beijing (one of the biggest and most visited city) during the same period, walked for hours in the cold with large crowds at popular tourist spots, taking packed highspeed rail and subway around the city, and ended up totally fine. A pandemic in China? More like in Japan.
