- I just rewatched The Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1 ‘Days Gone Bye’ and I genuinely do believe this is the perfect pilot.
This is my ‘retrospective’ review of TWD S1E1 ‘Days Gone Bye’. This is also the first video of my new series, where I will be rewatching the show in its entirety and reviewing episodes that I’d like to discuss.

Season 1 and 2 of the walking dead is a masterpiece
to this day episode one of the show still feels like a movie!
The Walking Dead’s Perfect Season: Season One (thanks Frank Darabont)
Agreed!
I’m reading the comics right now and after finishing volumes 1 & 2 and comparing them to how they were adapted in the show you really gotta give Frank Darabont all the more credit
I've watched it a hundred times and it is an absolute masterpiece. It has stood the test of time, and still ranks #1 on my list of favorite episodes. Thanks for the love for my fave!
There is a mini web series which reveals that someone was looking after Rick in the hospital.
Wish there was more webisodes that show some other side stories that showcased the beginning of the outbreak
@@edaingonzalez7179 Frank Darabont wanted to show stories that took place at the beginning of the outbreak but AMC wanted to save money.
Damn that sucks
Link for the mini web series please?
Ι believe they are talking about "The Oath"
Morgan killing walkers to improve his skills but the reality of the situation was he now had a means to put Jenny down.
The episode “clear” is such a fun one to follow up watching immediately after “days gone by”. When Morgan is tied up and talking to Rick, “Finally was too late. I was supposed to. I was selfish. I was weak. You gave me the gun.”
Lennie James is an amazing actor.
One of the best Pilots ever! It really feels like watching a whole movie. Such a shame the way things when with Frank Darobant, he's such a great director why would mess up that relationship and replace him?? Crazy
Frank Darabont, Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman collaboration in the same universe with new characters and a different setting would be incredible.
The first 4 seasons felt like art, like Cinema, and after that it became more and more like manufacturing. No soul or passion in it. Just what else can we do to Make it cheaper
I absolutely adore the slowness of camera shots & pacing in the earlier seasons. They did such a good job with it as they allowed the show to breathe, but I feel in the later seasons it’s very quick paced and doesn’t allow for much breathing room with the quick cuts from one location to the next while this season really gradually goes from one location to the next.
Definitely the best episode in the series. One of if not the best pilot ever
Excellent video! You pretty much said what I have been thinking about the first episode. New subscriber! 👍🏻👍🏻
I agree, this episode is in my top 5 for a reason
“Looking for Gass”
My best walking dead episode ever (still) S01E01
Bro, Rick trying to catch the helicopter and ended up with a pile of Walkers sprinting to him is just a horrifying and crazy experience to me
🔥🔥🔥
The reason why Rick could also stomp on a Walker’s head once and kill it is because the Walkers are FAR more decayed than in season 1. Their skull’s (and bones in general) are a lot weaker than when they were “fresher”.
There’s probably also the psychological aspect of killing people so easily, at that point he probably still saw walkers as human to a point still leading to hesitation.
@@matthewpyle3913 That too, plus he has more experience and strength now that he's killed dozens, if not hundreds, of Walkers.
can you do a new ranking every twd season video now that more spinoffs are out and you may have some new opinions
Great idea!
You should review Andor is really good
Anyone else feel very deflated towards this ip right now.
W
The walker in S1 Ep1 was a fresh 🧟♂️ and one's in S11 were more decayed and easily to destroy with a stomp on the head.
The way Frank D did season one and half a season 2 was great it all boils down to money with AMC bottom line they want the ratings, but didn't want to put out more or any 💰
This episode is not a “return”. Your watching it is a “return”.
You can’t say of a series that the Pilot was a “return”, my guy. 😄
Shane stealing Rick’s fries is the best metaphor of what was going on with Shane and Lori behind Rick’s back.
The Pilot is iconic, but the way the show evolved was fine by me.
Thank you 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Seasons 1 and 2 are the best!!!
I’d love to see what the show would have been if Frank Darabont had stayed as showrunner for the duration. I’d imagine it’d be completely different but I expect it would have been better.
Going back to season 1 after watching the ones who live really highlights that show’s massive issues.
I liked towl at first but after rewatches and with hindsight, I think it was pretty poor overall. I miss this era of the show so much.
The walking dead has become a soap opera
I think that’s exaggerating a little
@@thomasmacmullan it kinda has. I didnt stop watching like many, and I have mostly enjoyed the new spinoffs...but he isnt wrong. It is a soap opera with zombies now.
@@jordanl1911 I’ll admit it got far more dramatic and character-dynamic focused, but I don’t think it ever went far enough to be called a soap opera
The walking dead was about man versus man how they have to adapt in this new environment and by the way there's dead people walking around🧟♂️🧟♀️
@sassquatch212 TWOL was done well!! It's a 💘 story on Michonne finding and bringing Rick back home to his family( Judith, RJ and Daryl )that's what the show was about ‼️
Can we please torpedo the term “plot armor”. Just stop.
