I am sorry, 2049 does not hold a candle to Blade Runner unless all you care about is great effects. Blade Runner is plot driven, a plot crafted by one of SciFi's greatest writers; the effects give it the proper atmosphere. 2049's plot is just not comparable, IMO.
I saw Gattaca when it first came out and it is still one of the best movies around, sci-fi or not! :) Wonderful story of overcoming one's limitations in life.
Mitchell’s vs the machines is one of the best animation movies ever made. It has some of the touching father daughter scenes and will make all fathers cry.
I don't often lend kudos, but in this case I must publicly state that Flick Connection has never steered us wrong. We find at least a couple in every video and without err, we end the movie with "That was better than I thought it would be".

I love Blood Red Sky it was a really great surprise. Spectral is really good too! Total Recall Remake was a big fail for me, and I was really disappointed with War of the World because I really love the original one. Love Death and Robots is one of the best Sci Fi series I've seen in the past years. The visuals are fantastic, it's original, unique, eclectic . Jibaro blew my mind, I watched it two times in a row, it is one of the most beautiful thing I've seen in a while.

I always recommend it to people and it has some of the coolest action scenes I’ve ever seen (and I’m not a big action fan) and the lead actress is just PHENOMENAL! Part 2 is actually getting released in the US next week, June 17th! Can’t wait to see it, but I think the first stands on its own just fine :)
If you have a home theater, 2049 is a must own on 4k. Great visuals & OUTSTANDING sound design; Dolby Atmos at its best. The OG Bladerunner 4k transfer is great also.

I love Benson and Moorhead’s movies, and Synchronic, though different from their others, was really excellent as well. Now obviously, I know this isn’t a movie, but they also directed some episodes of the Netflix series “Archive 81”, which I thought was a really great series, and worth watching.
Loved Hollow Man, and I can't believe you didn't mention that it's directed by Paul Verhoeven - the same Paul Verhoeven of Robocop, Starship Troopers and Showgirls fame. This one is actually pretty straightforward compared to his other works, but still is a big selling point. And I actually think Kevin Bacon really steals the show.

Have you covered time travel movies? One of my favorites is Predestination. There are plenty to choose from but I'm into the heady-er ones. Timecrimes was also great.
The MItchels vs the Machines is a great family movie and a lot of fun. I watched it with my Daughter last night and can vouch that it is a great family movie. Some scary robots may be.a little much for some kids, but mine is over 20, so I figured she would be OK.
I had to google Vincent Price because I couldn't believe you said Gary Oldman was the 'second' best villain actor ever! I loved Leon: The Professional Gary Oldman character.

If one views TOTAL RECALL (2012 ) as a stand-alone sci-fi movie instead of making a comparison with the original, it turns out to be a stunningly, visually captivating and action-packed movie, nary a dull moment, with excellent actors. In one of the featurette interviews, Kate Beckinsale was thrilled to play the role as the ruthless security agent and has far more screen-time than Sharon Stone in the original.
@@gazzalanche Perhaps the marketing people got caught in a double bind with creating a title. Using “Total Recall” is familiar and would draw a far bigger audience than something different. But using the same title as the original will invariably lead to comparisons to the original. Like the political world, even if the incumbent (original) is imperfect it still has the advantage over the challenger (the remake).
@@gazzalanche Total Recall is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick named "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" published in 1966. While I haven't read it my guess is the remake may have tried to be closer to the source material.
Agree with you re Hollow Man. Have to see Colin/Kate/Biel in Total Recall with a fresh mindset because Arnold's version stands on its own and needs no remakes. Glad you didn't put too many superhero flicks in the list. Good pick on *Johnny Mnemonic*, because 90s, Keanu, and Gibson (the acclaimed scifi writer) wrote it himself before the Matrix trilogy became a thing

One of the great things about Hollow Man is we'd just had two tv series 'The Invisible Man' and 'The Gemini Man' so it amplified the horror aspect after such a 'Hero' treatment on TV

Watching The Platform while on a heroic dose of mushrooms was wild and absolutely terrifying. Then I tried uplifting my mood with The Trailer Park Boys Animated Show and it fucked me up. Ep 1 they start out freaking out after they eat mushrooms and are tripping that they are cartoons in a cartoon world. This blew me away along with my name being Jacob. Hearing Juliann yell "Jacob chill the fuck out man you're tripping" added to my chaotic spiral

Great list. I think War of the Worlds is a total horror SF masterpiece - and here's something I want to throw out there: WotW, AI, and Minority Report all have 3rd acts where the main character falls asleep and then 'wakes up' into a world where all of their problems get solved and they get a happy ending. Short form (SPOILERS): I think the boy in AI dies at the bottom of the sea, Cruise is haloed and in prison, and in War of the Worlds, he and Fanning are killed in the house while they sleep. Maybe it's baloney, but it might also help you enjoy the endings if you think they're a little cheesy.
In Minority Report I always thought that the disappearance of Tom Cruise’s son was actually an abduction by a fledgling pre-crime program because his son was a pre-cog. Think about it, they were going to take the DC pre-crime program national, and the three pre-cogs they had were already overwhelmed with the stimuli. They would have had to have more pre-cogs in place, ready to go for just such an eventuality. I think his son was still alive.
I always enjoy your lists and this is the first time I didn't find a lot of movies that I didn't know about or already watch. I am a certified Sci-Fi geek and your list verifies it. I have seen 15 of the movies on this list and already had 3 of the others in my cue. There is one that I still might watch but really wasn't on my radar, and another that I am still questioning if it's in my interest area;
I love Love Death and Robots season 1 but season 2 just was not all that good. Now, season 3... wow. Everyone of the episodes was awesome! Great job by the creators. Here's hoping season 4 is more of the same.☺
When you consider that Total Recall is based on the Philip K Dick short story 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale' and the main character of that story never goes to Mars? Well, neither version of Total Recall really follow the short story.

Totally agree that James Badge Dale is a superb actor and woefully underused. He was especially good in a shortened series called Rubicon.

As someone who hated the Total Recall remake, I appreciate your points. I think I'll give it a re-watch with no expectations.
It wasn't a remake. It was a more faithful adaptation of the same Philip K Dick short story that Schwarzenegger's was (very loosely) adapted from.

If it wanted to be a standalone feature though, name it something different. It gave itself way to much pressure running with that title.

Love Chappie & Johnny Mnemonic (SO 80s). If you take Chappie at face value, without all the District 9 expectations, it's a cool movie.

I think War of the Worlds is a total horror SF masterpiece - and here's something I want to throw out there: WotW, AI, and Minority Report all have 3rd acts where the main character falls asleep and then 'wakes up' into a world where all of their problems get solved and they get a happy ending.
Short form (SPOILERS): I think the boy in AI dies at the bottom of the sea, Cruise is haloed and in prison, and in War of the Worlds, he and Fanning are killed in the house while they sleep. Maybe it's baloney, but it might also help you enjoy the endings if you think they're a little cheesy.
In Minority Report I always thought that the disappearance of Tom Cruise’s son was actually an abduction by a fledgling pre-crime program because his son was a pre-cog. Think about it, they were going to take the DC pre-crime program national, and the three pre-cogs they had were already overwhelmed with the stimuli. They would have had to have more pre-cogs in place, ready to go for just such an eventuality. I think his son was still alive.

I always enjoy your lists and this is the first time I didn't find a lot of movies that I didn't know about or already watch. I am a certified Sci-Fi geek and your list verifies it. I have seen 15 of the movies on this list and already had 3 of the others in my cue. There is one that I still might watch but really wasn't on my radar, and another that I am still questioning if it's in my interest area;

I love Love Death and Robots season 1 but season 2 just was not all that good. Now, season 3... wow. Everyone of the episodes was awesome! Great job by the creators. Here's hoping season 4 is more of the same.☺

When you consider that Total Recall is based on the Philip K Dick short story 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale' and the main character of that story never goes to Mars? Well, neither version of Total Recall really follow the short story.
To be fair to the Total Recall remake the original Philip K Dick story didn't go to Mars either!
