      I am sorry, 2049 does not hold a candle to Blade Runner unless all you care about is great effects. Blade Runner is plot driven, a plot crafted by one of SciFi's greatest writers; the effects give it the proper atmosphere. 2049's plot is just not comparable, IMO.

Total Recall Remake was a big fail for me, and I was really disappointed with War of the World because I really love the original one. If one views TOTAL RECALL (2012 ) as a stand-alone sci-fi movie instead of making a comparison with the original, it turns out to be a stunningly, visually captivating and action-packed movie, nary a dull moment, with excellent actors. In one of the featurette interviews, Kate Beckinsale was thrilled to play the role as the ruthless security agent and has far more screen-time than Sharon Stone in the original.

    • @gazzalanche

      @@gazzalanche Perhaps the marketing people got caught in a double bind with creating a title. Using “Total Recall” is familiar and would draw a far bigger audience than something different. But using the same title as the original will invariably lead to comparisons to the original. Like the political world, even if the incumbent (original) is imperfect it still has the advantage over the challenger (the remake).

    Watching The Platform while on a heroic dose of mushrooms was wild and absolutely terrifying. Then I tried uplifting my mood with The Trailer Park Boys Animated Show and it fucked me up. Ep 1 they start out freaking out after they eat mushrooms and are tripping that they are cartoons in a cartoon world. This blew me away along with my name being Jacob. Hearing Juliann yell "Jacob chill the fuck out man you're tripping" added to my chaotic spiral

    Great list. I think War of the Worlds is a total horror SF masterpiece - and here's something I want to throw out there: WotW, AI, and Minority Report all have 3rd acts where the main character falls asleep and then 'wakes up' into a world where all of their problems get solved and they get a happy ending.
    Short form (SPOILERS): I think the boy in AI dies at the bottom of the sea, Cruise is haloed and in prison, and in War of the Worlds, he and Fanning are killed in the house while they sleep. Maybe it's baloney, but it might also help you enjoy the endings if you think they're a little cheesy.

      In Minority Report I always thought that the disappearance of Tom Cruise’s son was actually an abduction by a fledgling pre-crime program because his son was a pre-cog. Think about it, they were going to take the DC pre-crime program national, and the three pre-cogs they had were already overwhelmed with the stimuli. They would have had to have more pre-cogs in place, ready to go for just such an eventuality. I think his son was still alive.

    I always enjoy your lists and this is the first time I didn't find a lot of movies that I didn't know about or already watch. I am a certified Sci-Fi geek and your list verifies it. I have seen 15 of the movies on this list and already had 3 of the others in my cue. There is one that I still might watch but really wasn't on my radar, and another that I am still questioning if it's in my interest area;

    When you consider that Total Recall is based on the Philip K Dick short story 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale' and the main character of that story never goes to Mars? Well, neither version of Total Recall really follow the short story.

    To be fair to the Total Recall remake the original Philip K Dick story didn't go to Mars either!
