Desperate Measures is one I saw when it was first on HBO, back when HBO was the KING of cable movie providers. OUTSTANDING recommendation, I followed Keaton from then on because of his performance. Suicide Kings is tantamount to Eddie and the Cruisers in terms of arising from DVD release. And, The Covenant tells a story that's still ongoing from Afghanistan. Totally agree on both A Prophet and Flight, BOTH certainly deserve far more appreciation. And Moon... chef's kiss.
I saw the Devil's Double about 10 years ago on Netflix and it was great. I've been trying to remember the name to look it up. Will definitely re-watch. Thanks.
"Moon" is one of my favorite movies. My brother rarely liked my recommendations but loved "Moon". Plus turned me into a huge Sam Rockwell fan. LOVE HIM!!
I absolutely LOVED "Destroyer". I had it on my watchlist back when it was on MGM or something and kept putting it off and putting it off. I finally watched it and was thoroughly impressed. It was so well done and executed flawlessly.
Another great list, thanks Darren. One point: for Destroyer, you say something about how it's directed by a director that doesn't get enough love, but then you don't follow that up by telling us his name. You're the one who can give that love! (PS: Moon is a fantastic movie that deserves to be recommended at _least_ once a year.)
Flight was NOT a super-high budgeted film, by the way…Zemeckis has been able to bring in a lot of his more recent films for budgets ranging from $30 million (for FLIGHT) to about $45 million (last month’s HERE) largely because he is a careful, non-flashy filmmaker and big stars often take smaller paychecks to work with him (Denzel only got $4 million, and an Oscar nomination for FLIGHT)
A Prophet is the most realistic and gut wrenching coming of age in a prison movie ever. The range of the young actor and his relationship to his "mentor" are written into my memory. Absolutely fantastic.
That was an outstanding FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Your top 3 are certainly fantastic recommendations. Thank you for sharing with us, much appreciated 🫶🫶🫶
Good list, thank you. Moon is just one of those movies you either get or you don't. I liked the idea but thought this presentation did not click. My other friends thought it was fantastic.
DUDE! Thanks for the Desperate Measures love. I will say that all my research has found nothing about another version than the R-Rated one I fell in love with on Showtime's free preview weekend back in the day. My long winded way of saying that you got the rating wrong. Otherwise, a great film. And a a great review.
I really like watching your movie previews. It lets me find more cool stuff on Amazon Prime, and you’re right, you can find good movies if you really dig!
Exactly! Nailed it, You might also like "Primer", "Exam", "Triangle", "It's What's Inside", "Aporia", and ab!solute classics lie "Rope" and "12 Angry Men". Now... recently, "Beyond The Infinite Two Minutes" has stunned me... I still don't know how they pulled that off. Cheers
Always appreciate your recommendations sir! This time I've seen most of them which allows me to agree wholeheatedly with your top 3 (I enjoyed Flight as a Denzel movie, but think I might have put The Covenant in 3rd, because I saw that one as the American government was being slammed for abandoning its translators to their fates, and found this flick to be particularly poignant. The Devil's Double was BRILLIANT, and made me a HUGE fan of Dominic Cooper (a fandom reinforced 5 years later with the "Preacher" TV series.) He (and Jack Reynor) should be in everything by now!! Criminally under exposed young actors. (New agents needed ??) But your number one in this list has been in my top ten since I first saw it when it first aired. It isn't easy for an actor to carry the full weight of a film on his shoulders alone, but Rockwell does exactly that. An absolutely career defining performance in a film with a devastating (yet understated) final act. You can put it as your number one as often as you like...I'll be cool with it every time (unless you also include a Terry Gilliam movie on the same list...because most of them are always #1without exception).
On prime in the UK (I don't know about other countries) right now is "The Last Journey" 2020(2022 depending where you look), Wonderfully different would one linner, it is very art house slow burn sci-fi, very colourful and beautiful at times but dark storyline, oh yes no dubed version so subtitle reading required
Your recommendations are always awesome and I really do enjoy watching your videos, but unfortunately most of your recommendations I can’t even find on Amazon Prime here in Australia. I don’t know why!!! Maybe different region! Same with Netflix.
Heres one guy who enjoys your channel and takes a lot, AND watched Rust and bone, like, ten years ago. I even have it on DVD. Sadly Cotilliard has been involved in really mediocre films in Hollywood. Her performances on films outside Hollywood is generally great. I believe the film is French-Canadian.
Hey brother. If its in spanish can ypu throw a sign. Love this channel and some of your best stuff is in spanish ( Latin American spanish there's a difference. But if it's In Castellano and it's a good film it's cool. Fam spanish speakers and love your choices.
Flight is actually a loose remake of The Pilot, starring Cliff Robertson. It does a much better exploring the subject of a functional alcoholic airline pilot.
Suicide Kings is fantastic; with that herd of smartasses, the dialogue makes the movie. Flight deserves way more respect, nobody handles deeply human, complex, flawed characters like Denzel. Beard looking 🔥. Clean shaven grown ass men kinda freak me out 😂
More movies like "Coherence", "Primer" and "The Man From Earth", please ! By now I'm sure you seen "The Atifice Girl" and "It's what's inside", both brilliant. Have you seen "Beyond the infinite two minutes" ? Cheers!
I don’t know about anyone else but I typically won’t even bother if a movie is in FreeVee- too many long commercial breaks…as bad as cable without the editing. Tubi has a break now and then and most of them are very brief. FreeVee cuts the dialogue short and bends you over for a full 2-3 minutes at the worst times.
Moon isn’t how cloning works cloning produces babies, not full grown adults they grow up to be identical twins of you they do not have your memories they do not have your tattoos they would take 35 years, for example, to become a 35 year old copy

@@timwalsh7484so true. And companies stopping production of DVD to favour the streaming revenue makes it worse
Thank you 😘
Coherence is a mind blowing. They should make part 2
One of the best movies I've ever seen.
I saw the Devil's Double about 10 years ago on Netflix and it was great. I've been trying to remember the name to look it up. Will definitely re-watch. Thanks.
Moon is fantastic. Sooooooo good.
It's nice to see some recommendations that aren't about fantasy monsters and superhuman shootouts. Well done.
"Moon" is one of my favorite movies. My brother rarely liked my recommendations but loved "Moon". Plus turned me into a huge Sam Rockwell fan. LOVE HIM!!
I always find at least one new movie to try from your videos. Today its "Coherence". Downloaded to take on my flight!
I absolutely LOVED "Destroyer". I had it on my watchlist back when it was on MGM or something and kept putting it off and putting it off. I finally watched it and was thoroughly impressed. It was so well done and executed flawlessly.
Just saw "Destroyer." Great film. Thanks for the tip(s).
COHERENCE...is really mind fodder. Just watched it again and it was even better. Don't miss it.
Coherence is amazing.
Destroyer is truly underrated and one of her best performances.
A great role but the movie isn't great
Saw moon and I loved it. Thanks for the reminder and it is going to be a great rewatch
Moon was a great #1, but Coherence definitely should have been #2!!!
Coherence, is all that. Your Headbrain will explode.
Coherence proves you don't need a monster budget to create a clever story. Novel idea and solid writing do the rest. Great flick!
Her name: it's Karyn Kusama.
Another killer list. Thank you for doing this!
Coherence is how u make a low budget film with exceptional dialogue. Why it works is because it’s thought out and executed with perfection
I've seen Coherence several times. You have to pay close attention to it.
Coherence is an EXCELLENT film. Great sci fi. Had me thinking for weeks after viewing it, might be time for a second watch!
100%. It’s one that sticks with you. I was so engaged while watching it.

I saw Rust and Bone when it came out, really enjoyed it. I'd forgotten about it so thanks for the reminder to give a rewatch.
"Moon" rocks... 😏
Guy Ritchie is impressive.
Love your beard, suits you
Good list, thank you. Moon is just one of those movies you either get or you don't. I liked the idea but thought this presentation did not click. My other friends thought it was fantastic.
Moon is great. The new film Mickey 17 looks similar.
I like your videos Darren. I even watch the videos about movies on streaming services where I'm not subscribed. Thanks.
Thank you for supporting Better Health. It helped me immensely in a difficult time. Love your show.
DUDE! Thanks for the Desperate Measures love. I will say that all my research has found nothing about another version than the R-Rated one I fell in love with on Showtime's free preview weekend back in the day. Thank you for recommending shadow strays. Awesome movie. You ruuule!
❤Thanks for the recommendations 😊 we love TH-cam 🎬 🎞 🎥
Darren, the beard is THE way to go. Looking good brother.
Destroyer is maybe my fav rouge cop movie. Only movie I’ve watched twice back to back
Thanks for the reminder of Rust and Bone. Great movie.
Still trying to get friends and family to watch Moon!!! Such a good flick.
Derailed is the scariest horror movie I've ever seen.
Whoa that's a bold claim! I'm guessing more psychological horror? I had no idea that was Nicole Kidman in the thumbnails.. She's brilliant.
THANKS
I didn't see anything in your top three ?!
Christmas must be early !
I really like watching your movie previews. It lets me find more cool stuff on Amazon Prime, and you’re right, you can find good movies if you really dig!
Bro, these videos are topshelf. You save me so much time from 'channel surfing'
We need more small budget, idea driven films like Coherence. Also recommended: The Man from Earth and The Artifice Girl.
That requires intelligent clever screen writers, which virtually don’t exist! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@ They exist but you have to look at independent and international cinema to find them.
Cheers
"Suicide Kings" has been in *my* Top 25 of *all-time* for over 2 decades. It'd be my #2 from this list - after "Moon".
I’m a regular viewer and I am huge fan of Rust and Bone. I think I’ve watched all the movies that Matthias Schoenaerts has acted in.
Out of the whole list I’ve only seen Moon, haha. Starting the rest of the list noww. Great list of thrillers DVD👍
One of the best prison genre flics ever: Starred Up. See it before you die.
#FC gtsy!! Thx 4 the list🍻🍿
Enjoy
@DarrenVanDam glad to see "Flight" on the list..That film surprised me🤗
Always appreciate your recommendations sir! Moon. That's it. That's the list. Thumbs up.
Your recommendations are always awesome and I really do enjoy watching your videos, but unfortunately most of your recommendations I can’t even find on Amazon Prime here in Australia. I don’t know why!!! Maybe different region! Same with Netflix.
Devil's Double is awesome
How can you talk about Flight and not mention Kelly Reilly?? She was a stand out in this film
Great list! Yes! Moon is a masterpiece!
wait a sec Darren You're A#1. is that shirt the cover to the best movie of all time? i heard he was dead. NOICE! and awesome movie rex as always!
Suicide Kings is one of my favorite movies ever. But who could not like Christopher Walken? Yes, fish boots.
Thanks Darren. Always love your pics. Much love. God bless.
Thanks for these. I can never find squat to watch on Prime.
You mean for free? For few dollars you can find just about anything there
@kevinstarski1598 No Prime is not free. I just don't find that app very friendly. Very little they suggest is good for me.
Loved "Moon"
If you think the stories in The Devil's Double are exaggerated, they aren't. If anything, they are toned down.
Desperate Measures is R rated.
Heres one guy who enjoys your channel and takes a lot, AND watched Rust and bone, like, ten years ago. I even have it on DVD. Sadly Cotilliard has been involved in really mediocre films in Hollywood. Beard is phenomenal! Movie reviews are pretty good too. 😊
That thumbnail made me click twice
Arcade...great series...hope you watch it.
Have actually already seen Rust And Bone :)
Loving the beard 😎
Love the t-shirt
just watched Coherance....OMG !!! great movie
Derailed is a great flick.
Moon is actually a compilation of leaked NASA video. Sorry for the spoiler.
I'm shocked that you used SHOCKING as clickbait.
Hey brother. If its in spanish can ypu throw a sign. Love this channel and some of your best stuff is in spanish ( Latin American spanish there's a difference. But if it's In Castellano and it's a good film it's cool. Fam spanish speakers and love your choices.
Any word from Prime on Nautilus release date ??
Flight is actually a loose remake of The Pilot, starring Cliff Robertson. It does a much better exploring the subject of a functional alcoholic airline pilot.
Appalling prime interface. I;d never watch anything on their only for Darren.
Suicide Kings is fantastic; with that herd of smartasses, the dialogue makes the movie. Flight deserves way more respect, nobody handles deeply human, complex, flawed characters like Denzel. Beard looking 🔥. Clean shaven grown ass men kinda freak me out 😂
Beard looks nice and familiar
Telephone the reply? Sure trust a website.
Loved Rust and Bone ❤
Suicide Kings is a cult classic at this point. I love anything Christopher Walken. See Communion?
Moon is a great movie!
I really liked “Flight”. Thought it was going to be a catastrophe movie, but it wasn’t.
Been meaning to watch moon
So, Derailed was before aniston's implants it looks like.
Number 1 is Moon????? This must mean #10 is the best? Cause Moon suuuuuuuuuucked.
Loved devils double🎉
Moon great movie
SHOCKING!!!! Why is this always in video titles? Rarely is it actually shocking. 👎
More movies like "Coherence", "Primer" and "The Man From Earth", please ! By now I'm sure you seen "The Atifice Girl" and "It's what's inside", both brilliant. Have you seen "Beyond the infinite two minutes" ? Cheers!
You beard has bugs?
Pre Botox Kidman!
My No. 1 is rost & bone and then the flyght

Prime is unwatchable with all the commercials despite Prime membership.
👍👍👍🎥🎥🎥
Moon isn’t how cloning works
cloning produces babies, not full grown adults
they grow up to be identical twins of you
they do not have your memories
they do not have your tattoos
they would take 35 years, for example, to become a 35 year old copy
Moon isn’t real life. It’s a science fiction movie.
