  • My son and I shoot my three Marlin lever actions rifles: my Model 1894 .357 Magnum, my beautiful 1894 .44 Magnum and my Model 30TK Kmart Special carbine chambered in .30-30. Halloween doesn't stand a chance with these Old West Marlin lever guns.

    Love the Marlin lever actions!! I really enjoy shooting my Marlin 1895 45-70 gov't GBL Guide Gun. Installed Skinner peeps, wrapped the loop lever with 550 cord, put on a Diamond D leather butt/cartridge cuff, attached leather and barbed wire sling, and installed a saddle ring safety delete. Then was given a Marlin 336CS for Christmas and never looked back and I picked up 1 336W for each of my 2 sons. Never had any failures other than ammunition, then I tried Remington. Still makes me sick to this day.

    Loved this video as I am a huge fan of "JM" stamped (primarily because of the the manufacturing quality) Marlins of which I own three. One of those "JM" stamped Marlins is an SC, "waffle top", in .30-30 which was never violated, drilled and tapped for a scope mount that is, BUT does have microgroove rifling. It may be an odd ball in some folk's minds but it works nicely as a whitetail and feral hog thumper here in South Carolina especially when loaded with 170gr soft point ammo labeled Remington or Federal.

    The power increase of high chamber pressure cartridges like the .357 and .44 mag out of a rifle as compared to a short pistol barrel is just incredible. In fact, some bullets can actually grenade on the outside of an animal, that are designed for say 1200 fps out of a pistol, but propelled at 1600 fps out of a rifle. I shot a deer with a .44 mag rifle with a 200 gr hollow point. The bullet centered a rib on the entry side, exploded, and basically schrapnelled into the deer. It left a crime scene blood trail and the deer fell within sight, but, if the bullet had struck the shoulder bone on the entry side, may have been a different story. Love the lever guns. Thanks for sharing.

    • @timclaus8313
      @timclaus8313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Loaded some 200 gr XTPs, clocking about 1500 fps out of the Super Blackhawk and 1900 out of the 1894. Expansion is pretty nasty out of the SBH, but it is extremely violent out of the rifle.

    I’m gonna add my 2c and tell that I have a 1965 Winchester model 94 in 30-30. It’s aged well and will hit anything you aim at. The first deer I killed with it blew a hole thru it completely disintegrating 2 rib bones and both lungs at 40 yards. I’ve also dropped a buck at over 100 yards up hill using one of those fancy ballistic tips. It hit him so hard that he landed flat on his back. His legs were running but he was flat on his back lol. The 30-30 has always created a massive blood trail to follow. My father gave me this rifle and it’s one of my greatest treasures and I plan on it being something I leave to a loved one but not till after I’m dead.

    Just bought the Rossi 92 in .38/.357 after I saw the remlin video. Nothing wrong with remlin. I actually want the Dark Series 45-70 but in no hurry. I’m very happy with the 92 in 357/38. 20 inch barrel plain Jane gonna be my everyday beater and go to for everything so i keep the mileages low on my minty fresh 1955 Marlin 336 RC in 30-30, and my Henry 22.

    • @silverback3926
      @silverback3926 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a rossi 92 16 inch barrel. I went 16 inch because it seemed like the 20 was a bit barrel heavy. The 16 is so quick to get on target
      Super nice once you get it slickd up. Get the DVD from Steve's Guns about how to slick it up. You will be happier with it. I put peep sight in the safety and Steve's fiber optic front sight. Once you get it dialed in its likey you will never miss again

    With Ruger buying up Marlin for the bargain basement price of 30 Million the supply of these sweet lever guns will be returning. Some of the parts will probably be converted to investment casting for lower manufacturing cost, improved dimensional precision, and repeatability. I see nothing but good things happening.

    I've been watching your channel for awhile now! I'm a Las Vegas local and have been trying to figure out where you do most of your shooting vids. I kept saying to myself that I have seen that old pick-up truck somewhere but just couldn't remember where. One of my other hobbies is dirt biking and that is where I ran across that truck. You have finally revealed yourself...at the beginning of the video! I won't mention your semi-secret location as I'm well aware of how things work around here! Lol!

      Hello Peter - several years ago I found an old Chevy van in the desert and I was using it for a filming location until someone blew it up with Tannerite, which really sucked. I'm sure you understand why I like to keep my shooting spots to myself but it is definitely in southern Nevada and outside Las Vegas. I'm sure someday it will also be destroyed. Thanks for the great comment and stay cool during these hot days in southern Nevada.

      @@mixup98 When I shoot I'm usually up at the State prisons. So far it hasn't been to bad but I've been seeing more and more shooters show up there. Can get a little crowded every so often. The Sloan area is completely blown out and because of some of the clientele I quit going there about 15 years ago. The political overlords keep shutting more and more areas down that are close in that used to be legal but are now off limits. Not necessarily for nefarious reasons but just because Las Vegas keeps growing. The Clark County shooting park is fun for the sporting shotgun courses but I won't use the pistol range. To many people in close proximity and opportunity for things to go really sideways! I will sometimes post a video of places that we dirt bike after we have found some new decent single track and thinking no one will figure it out only to come back a week or two later and it's completely blown out from side x sides, quads and jeeps. I don't post those videos anymore. Your location for shooting vids is safe with me! As my earlier post suggested... I know how things work around here! Lol!

      @@peteregger7928 I went to Sloan last year for the first time and I won't go back due to all the trash in the area. I usually head out toward Nelson and Searchlight to make some of my videos as there are less shooters and trash (at least for now). Thanks for the great comments and please stay safe out there on the range and on the trials. Stop bye and say "hi" if you ever see me out in the desert.

    I have an old J M Marlin model 30-30 SC which I think, don't know, stands for Sporting Carbine. I picked it up in a small gun store in Stayton Oregon around 7 years ago. It had been refinished and done very well though the wood needed some very minor work, so I refinished the stock and had a new Decelerator pad put on it. It has an excellent bore and IS very, very pretty. It was manufactured in 1949 and it is one of my all time favorite guns. If I still hunted deer it wood definitely be the gun I grab for the task. I only take it out to plink with occasionally and the bullet I load is the Speer 130 GR HCFN. Have not crono'd them but are extremely fun plinkers. Signed, Doug.
