The old sideboard, a relic of the 1940s with its once grand Art Deco design, had seen better days. Its chipped veneer and deep scratches told tales of a bygone era. As he approached it, the scent of aged wood and time-worn craftsmanship filled the air. He ran his fingers over the rough surface, feeling the history embedded in every groove and imperfection. With each touch, he felt a growing intimacy with the piece, a connection that went beyond mere restoration. This was not just a project; it was a journey into the past, a dance with the memories hidden within the wood. His hands worked methodically, stripping away the old finish to reveal the beauty beneath. He imagined the sideboard in its prime, the centerpiece of elegant soirees and intimate gatherings. As he delicately removed the hardware, a sense of anticipation built within him. Each screw, each piece of trim was like undressing a lover, slowly unveiling the secrets that lay beneath. When he discovered the key that still worked, it felt like unlocking a hidden passion, an unexpected pleasure that brought a smile to his lips. The act of restoration became a sensual experience, a tender embrace between him and the sideboard, culminating in a beautiful transformation that was as much about rediscovering himself as it was about saving a piece of history.
Before I say anything else, I just have to tell you and your wife that your little boy is precious! My husband and I raised two (they're in their 40s now), so everytime I see a little one like yours, my mind flies back to those very special times. They go so quickly!! Okay, to business: I wasn't aware of your channel until I started viewing the channels involved in the challenge. Men and women like you, you value the deep things: wood, grain, patterns, hidden treasures, headed for the bin to valuable (and valued) pieces for the home. Thank you for participating in the challenge, and thank you for sharing a little bit of your family! Cheers!
@@maggiesue4825 I’m not sure how I missed this comment but thank you very much, I really appreciate your kind words. As do my wife and my boy Sonny 🥰 Thank you 🙏
This was definitely a trash to treasure restoration. It will last for many years to come now. I really do appreciate these rescues because our furniture isn't made to the superior standards of the past and we are losing too many treasures to the landfills. Well done and I appreciate all of you who are doing this challenge. Great work.
Thank you for patiently displaying a complete restoration including all techniques and practical skills to revive this piece, and I admire you as a carpenter and interested in restoration.💚
Too wonderful to believe. Came here because of Jay from Flipping Drawers; it must be terrific to be pals with one another, trading ideas and tips for turning old has-beens into beautiful works of art. What a project you took on--and what a gorgeous result! Congratulations and thanks for the video. Glad to have found your channel.
What I like is that you DON'T show the finished article until you've finished! That was hideous and you made a very stylish piece out of it. New subscriber.
Good job! When I was a kid everyone seemed to have this style furniture. I thought it looked old and cumbersome as a child but now I see the beauty in it! Lovely piece and well done! ❤
Lovely job ! Thank you for sharing the journey back to the sideboard's original glory ! And thank you for sharing your family with us...such a joy to hear baby laughter - so good for the heart !!!
This is a great example of the longevity of rift and quartered wood. The Dimensional stability is worth every penny. This is why it makes for an amazing hardwood flooring choice.
What a lot of work. You are one patient, hard working man. The finished product is amazing. Soooo worth it key and all. Congratulations on a job well done. Hope you were able to keep it for your home.
What an usual piece you've found there!! You did a lovely job as usual! What a great focal piece that could be! Hugs to Sonny! What a delightfully happy little dude 😘
I love the oak grain of this piece. Whatever you soaked the knobs in worked well, they're gorgeous! Thanks for not making this into a modern piece, it's lovely as it is.😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonderful work ànd another piece brought back to life and it's former glory 🥰 I have watched Jay, David and now you from my notifications but it is very late so everyone else on the playlist is sadly going to have to wait until tomorrow and the kids are at school (sorry everyone else). Take care xx
Thank you very much, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment so late in your evening! I haven't quite through the whole playlist yet but really enjoying what I have seen so far :)
Amazing work, and I love the fact you did it with limited tools. That made it so much more relatable! Really fabulous job, mate! What a gorgeous find and to see the beauty through it knackered state, and prove it through your skills and perseverance... Impressed. L&S!
I love the art deco pieces, and you did such a loving job with this one. It shows. My father was a master carpenter, and I felt like I was back in the shop with him.
Awesome job❤Loved the commentary. So far, i enjoyed everyones project, including yours. You each have a unique way of restoring your pieces, so you guys are going to be mad at me....because I'm liking them all.😮😊
Reminds me of my Grandad's house! When they bought furniture they had it for life. No flatpacks! He could repair anything, even shoes. Having 3 boys and only one income they had to learn to mend, sew, grow and cook from scratch. One small trash can took all the rubbish every week. They were far more environmentally friendly then. Even furniture was stuffed with biodegradable horse hair and cushions were feathers. Wish I had his wisdom. Sadly I never met my Grandma, but I bet she was a fount of knowledge too.
Just a small suggestion---As you have time, why not try cleaning brassware, with a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, and strong cleaning vinegar? You can thicken the mix with flour, so that it doesn't run off. I cleaned all the 1820's door furniture in my late Georgian home, like this, and the result was very satisfying. (Barkeepers Friend, can be slightly abrasive, if you're aiming for a high shine!)
I love seeing your children. Takes me right back to the beautiful days of raising my own! I so enjoy your work and do a tiny bit to used pieces I have picked up. Restoration is truly an art. Thank you for sharing.

If I didn't see it in the trash state, I wouldn't know it was the same piece. Beautiful job, Cole😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Absolutely beautiful - what a transformation! Art Deco pieces are always a minefield with acres of veneer and plywood to deal with 😀
Thanks so much! They can certainly be testing! Thank you for watching :)
Don't forget HEAVY!! All that solid wood with the lovely grain pattern is hernia-inducing when you try to heave it into your vehicle.
I'm so glad to find someone who explains what he is doing. Thank you for your video, I love the after look.
