Oh wow 🎉that's absolutely a beautiful piece of furniture now. God bless 🙏 your hands ✋️ god gave you a fantastic gift. I love your little boy. He's so cute!! I've got 5 children myself all grown up now. Enjoy your special time with him now. I'm a new subscriber Máire from Connemara, Co. Galway. Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️ ☘️ ☘️
Hi, let me give you some info on your chest? the chest is Victorian c1870 made out of yellow pine which would of been scrumbeld to look like Oak/Mahogany/Walnut, Basically it's was a poor mans chest that couldn't afford the real thing, The beading round the drawers was put on at a later date, The turned feet have been cut down and they have added wooden drawer nobs (which are Victorian) to make the length up, These chests are worth a lot of money in original condition because many of them have been stripped over the years to the natural pine and waxed because it was fashionable at the time
You are a legend and I love this comment, thank you!! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge! I did try to do some research but struggled to find much, thank you again 😎
I was getting ready to comment that the beaded trim was almost certainly added later, My mom used the same trim in the 70s to “decorate” the doors on an old cabinet she refinished
Why does a smart ass always have to come on and be so rude. This guy made the chest absolutely beautiful...no matter what the date or century. But there is no need to be rude!! Lets see some of your restoring jobs...@derranbryne7223
I usually don’t like dark stain but this old girl was screaming for it! I personally like the brass cup pulls you used and that this piece has a tale to tell! It’s character that you left is what makes it charming!
Wood is so forgiving. I am surprised people do not restore their own instead of buying new ones. I don't care for pine but I love the old craftsmanship and love some folks take the time to save these pieces. Cheers.
You don't have lots of fancy tools and a big workshop full of different machines but you still do amazing work most of the times. You resurrected this beautiful piece of furniture ❤️
I have such deep appreciation for those like you who take the time to honor these treasures. You worked meticulously on this old piece. It's full of charm and beauty once again.
I actually thought of you when I was stripping this one. All that white paint you had to tackle on your trash piece, so painful!! Cheers for tuning in mate 😎
I have a great hint from John Bear--for carved areas mix stripper and saw dust and put on areas and scrub with old toothbrush. It acts like sand paper and is easier to remove small bits of paint. The chest really looked great!
Fabulous work as always. Love the fact that you did not over restore and allowed this wonderful old piece to retain its character. I have just the place for it in the hallway. 💛
A magnificent restoration! You did a wonderful job getting all that nasty paint off this old lady and your dark finish was perfect. The brass handles set it off nicely 👌 Subbed last night and ive been binging your videos 😁
Handsome Piece! A Little too Dark for Me Personally but You Really made the Wood Grain Shine! So Nice. The New Handles aren't Quite right. Too Flat. I Think Something Similar in Size and Shape to the Originals but in Metal. You Make a Very Good Spokesperson (Yes I did watch the Commercial)! I'm not Surprised, You have a Great Positive Attitude and Communication Skills! Mmmm, Cookie!😊😀🍪🍪🍪😋
Absolutely love this piece! I grow tired of the "perfect restoration" videos on TH-cam. These types of refurbs give the piece alot of character, and makes it feel more welcomed in a home. Kudos!
You did a sympathetic and precise restoration of this old chest of drawers. I bet it could tell many stories, sadly we will never know! Love your channel.🤗🇦🇺
Very handsome piece. It reminds me of something maybe a man or bachelor would like in his room. And the brass handles were perfect. I wouldn’t change them. I love the satin too. You do such good wrk. I enjoy your channel. And your lil baby is adorable 🇺🇸❤️
You're brave for tackling this one! The handles usually isn't my favorite, but on this piece it looks good! I recently learned a new word in English, Escutcheon! Thats the key hole cover😊. Hi from Sweden👋
Thank you, it was quite testing! Now I have learned something too then, Escutcheon! And cheers for backing me up on the other commenter, that was very kind. Take care 🤗
I would have used a pine or light oak stain and kelp the old pulls. But you did a great job on it and tons of work on removing all the paint. It looks 100% better.
First let me thank you for calling it a chest of drawers. Too many people call it a cabinet. You did a fantastic job. Taking it from trash worthy to home worthy.
I really like your camera work and narration which make it easy to see and understand what you are doing. You show such patience in that detail work. Thanks.
I swear I heard the wood take a grateful breath when you stripped off that paint! I love your videos. That cameo of Sonny with the cookie is priceless. I’m always happy to see him in your videos.
I have one of these and use it as my bedroom dresser. It's in its original condition and was owned by my fathers grandmother. I absolutely love it and it will be passed down to my children. ❤🐨
This is the loveliest restoration ive seen for ages. Really like that you chose to let its history shine through. I always admire the skill that goes into any restoration, but this is the first piece i've wished I could own! Thank you for sharing
Wow! I wouldn't have given a second look at that piece before you restored it! Great choice with the brass drawer pulls! My home has many 1920-ish furniture pieces that we have collected from Consignment stores. I really appreciate your love of your craft! Thank you for sharing!😃
Oh my goodness! So glad you were able to get your hands on this! You brought it back to life and it looks gorgeous! Personally, I like the drawer pulls you used. They look really good and match the style of the chest. I love watching your videos! Of course Sonny is absolutely cute as can be! He's growing to fast though! Love how the chest turned out! Have an awesome week! Blessings to you and your family! 😊❤
Thank you Pam, always lovely to hear from you! I am getting mixed reviews about the pulls but that was expected! Pleased you like the final result, thank you for tuning in again. Take care 🤗🤗
Great work. This piece deserves to be functional for another century or so. My only wish is that you had not used such a dark stain. But, well done and thanks for sharing.
Gosh, what a lot of hard work and elbow grease! And even having to resort to a dental pick to get paint from the ornamental trim! I think I would run out of patience for that. As far as the original construction, I was surprised to notice that on the one lock mechanism you removed, the space for it was off center! Usually one thinks of early craftsmanship as being much more careful and precise. It struck me as odd, since the actual keyhole was centered in the drawer, but the lock behind it was off. Thanks for sharing this journey.
I thought when you took the hardboard off the top it would be awful underneath but it was fine - what possessed them to do that? What a lovely piece under all that finish!!! Well done 😊😊😊
Hand sawn dovetails! Cool! Dont give up on the old locks. They are pretty simple, and over the years i have collected old keys at sales, junk shops etc. i can almost always find a key that fits now. Enough oil and the locks usually start to work. Then i take my old key to a lock shop and get a copy. Came out great! I would switch over to flat head screws when you get around to it, those old knobs will be just the thing on another piece. You have great taste!
I just love watching folk turn sows ears into silk purses! Thank you for doing this work. I know you make money, but you restore old furniture and extended life, giving further respect to the craftspeople that went before. Thank you. Ive also learned a great deal ( to test for lead) 😊😊😊
First time watcher, it was really satisfying watching your process, I didn't know I would like furniture archeology so much! I was hoping you would repaint the original drawer handles that creamy white, but the brass pulls were nice too, they gave it more of an office furniture vibe.
While you have done a good job with cleaning & preserving, the stain seems to have a lot of color variance, which is not typical to Victorian finishes. Pine, maple, & a few other woods commonly have this problem when stained. A coat of shellac under the stain, as a general rule, will help to even out the stain variance. However, you likely need to apply some toner or a color finish coat to unify the stain color. There were pieces of Victorian furiture that had wooden knobs. Because the piece has faux coloring to mirror a more expensive wood, they were likely metal with a Victorian style.
Hi, I flip furniture, a lot of hard work, but I love the finished look. You kept the age of the piece, which is nice. Well earned coffee or something stronger lol
Hey, love your work. My 2 cents worth ... I would have worked some contrast between the stain and natural wood. Staining all of it dark made it heavier somehow? Maybe leave the top lighter and tge draw fronts with the carcass dark?
Your idea of make it look old/fresh came through nicely. The finish has a worn but maintained look to it and I think you did a great job making that happen.😊
I love this chest! I have one that’s its cousin, made by an itinerant furniture maker. It was my Gran’s linen chest in her pantry! Oh, and tiger maple drawer fronts!
Thanks!
Wow, super generous of you. Thank you very much, very grateful 🙏

And if it’s 1870, it’s 19th century, not 18th.
Yes, I made an error there. Thanks
I was getting ready to comment that the beaded trim was almost certainly added later, My mom used the same trim in the 70s to “decorate” the doors on an old cabinet she refinished

I've never seen threaded feet like that!! Super interesting!! Thanks for sharing!!
I really love the original knobs.
Yes, those horrible handles
destroy his entire
beautiful work . . . . 😞
Looks like s lovely vintage piece. Very functional for storage. If that piece could talk! Carol from California
I usually don’t like dark stain but this old girl was screaming for it! I personally like the brass cup pulls you used and that this piece has a tale to tell! It’s character that you left is what makes it charming!
Thank you Linda, I appreciate your feedback. Cheers for tuning in :)

You restored its personslity. Beautiful!
You don't have lots of fancy tools and a big workshop full of different machines but you still do amazing work most of the times. You resurrected this beautiful piece of furniture ❤️
I think it was worth the effort involved. Turned out wonderful
Oh man, I could listen to your kiwi accent forever! Great job, as always! ❤
Well done Cole, that one proved to be an exercise in perseverance. Once again you have saved something and given it a new lease of life!
I have such deep appreciation for those like you who take the time to honor these treasures. You worked meticulously on this old piece. It's full of charm and beauty once again.
Thanks for saving a pretty piece of furniture!
Such a patient heart and deft hand.
Thank you ☺️
Wow Cole, just amazing work man! This went from scary clown vibes to an amazing piece with so much character!
I actually thought of you when I was stripping this one. All that white paint you had to tackle on your trash piece, so painful!! Cheers for tuning in mate 😎

Thank you for the tip, appreciated!
I watched the sponsored bit just to see your cheery face! Now I know where your son gets his smiles from.
Oh thank you, very kind. I am pleased in inherited my smile 😎
Fabulous work as always. Love the fact that you did not over restore and allowed this wonderful old piece to retain its character. I have just the place for it in the hallway. 💛
Wow it is absolutely beautiful. You are a true artist.
Thank you so much 😀
I love that you left some of the dents and dings. Getting all that paint off was a chore, but paid off in the finished piece. Nice work!!
Thank you, I am pleased you enjoyed the finished piece :)
Thanks!
Thank you so much, very kind of you 🥰
Fantastic! Well done. And if you ever need anyone to sit and pick paint out with a dental tool, give me a shout. I could happily do that all day!
Beautiful, I would buy that in an instant!
The feet are so unique.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you like them! 😊
This is why I hate people painting natural wood. Excellent, hard work for you to restore!!!
I love what you have done with this piece! Cleaned up with the character intact!
I was not surprised at how it turned! You are a great restorer. ❤
What a lot of work! It turned out beautiful. I love the dark stain and the new handles.
Nice transformation. I think I would have preferred a white wash or lighter finish, but great job removing all those layers of paint.
A magnificent restoration!
You did a wonderful job getting all that nasty paint off this old lady and your dark finish was perfect. The brass handles set it off nicely 👌
Subbed last night and ive been binging your videos 😁

Really like the choice of handle. I think leaving the character on the piece was a brilliant idea. Good job.
He has done a great job,
but the handles are
horrible, sorry .
Absolutely love this piece! I grow tired of the "perfect restoration" videos on TH-cam. These types of refurbs give the piece alot of character, and makes it feel more welcomed in a home. Kudos!
Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it. Pleased you enjoy the character, I like it too!

Glad you enjoyed it, thank you 🙏
I think you accomplished your goal. It looks phenomenal. Great job!
WOW, lots of work, layers and layers, great job, very nice !
Wonderful job! Loving that distressed look.
You turned this dresser from a barn find to a great piece for an entryway. Nice job!
Thank you! 😊 Very kind!
Absolutely in love with this result!
Hello,Kiwi. The best of people are here, I find. First viewingbof your channel. Thsnk you. And your comments are a learning experience.

Especially when it takes you 87 years to finish😂
I swear I heard the wood take a grateful breath when you stripped off that paint! I love your videos.
That cameo of Sonny with the cookie is priceless. I’m always happy to see him in your videos.
I really hope Sonny was a long way away from this project though. Lead paint is SOOO toxic, esp for little toddlers.
@ I’ll bet Sophia made sure of that!
I have one of these and use it as my bedroom dresser. It's in its original condition and was owned by my fathers grandmother. I absolutely love it and it will be passed down to my children. ❤🐨
So nice to pass it down through the family 🤗 Thank you for watching

You did a tremendous redoing this gorgeous, old chest! I love that you left so much character in the piece. I love it! Thank you!❤
Well done! Beautiful restoration
Great work. This piece deserves to be functional for another century or so. My only wish is that you had not used such a dark stain. But, well done and thanks for sharing.
time lapse and sound effects for paint stripper are excellent! nice job!
For me, I'd like it a bit lighter but like the restoration. Respect.
Thank you Becca, appreciate your feedback :)

A loving restoration! Bravo!
So beautiful. Brilliant!
Nice save. I'm not that keen on the dark stain, might have gone with something a bit lighter. But it ain't my piece and you did wonders with it.
I really like that you didn't make it look new. Love it just the way you finished it.
You done a great job with this little dresser. I love the feet it has. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤
I like the half moon handles very sharp
Looks absolutely fantastic!! You gave it new life as a more elegant chest of drawers... love it!!! ❤️
I love this! You've hopefully added another couple of hundred years to it's life and it looks incredible!❤❤❤
Congratulations on the beautiful work. It's great to see people who are dedicated to these restoration projects.
Direct hugs from Brazil
A Job well done. You restored it's dignity
I thought when you took the hardboard off the top it would be awful underneath but it was fine - what possessed them to do that? What a lovely piece under all that finish!!! Well done 😊😊😊
Great job on this piece Cole! A+!! 💯🥇🥃
Nicely done. It really was quite beat up, but you brought it back. I have that in my house. We are before I’m not sure I’d have it in my garage.

I love it. I’ve always loved antiques but we don’t get anything that old here in Canada. Great job
Lovely sympathetic revival. Well done!
Interesting piece, what a lot of work! Great job.
Thank you very much!
Great transformation ❤

Oh My stunning old girl…..yep still beauty in us oldies😂😂
Wonderful job. Loks like it would be at home in a period drama.
Your chest looked really great ofter it was all done. Loved it
Beautiful job!! I like the handles. Blessings 🙏👍👍👍❤️
What a lovely transformation! ❤
Love it and perfect handle choice!
.
oh , well . . . .

Absolutely gorgeous a labour of love - thank you for restoring it rather than painting
Amazing Restoration! Thanks so much for sharing
