    Thank you so much for this video! You saved me from smoking my air unit! Using T-Motor F45A x Minin F7 with DJI 03 Air unit. I almost plugged in trusting the wire harness sent to me with the T motor stack was correct. I double checked the wiring after watching this video, and sure enough it was backwards. I had to reorder the pins as you mentioned. You the man!! I also planned on using the DJI FPV controller, with the 03 unit, but am now reconsidering just buying another crossfire receiver and using my Zorro instead. Thanks again! I assumed the DJI controller would work with the 03 air unit as good as it does with the DJI FPV drone. Maybe not.

      those backwards pinouts can really sneak up on you with the O3 system! The Controller 2 and O3 got an update recently which fixes most of the issues if you are still wanting to try it out...but personally I am sticking to radio protocols that I know never drop my quad out of the sky just to be safe, lol.

      Sorry it took me so long to get back the second time, lol. It comes in waves as I have time to read through things. Have you got it working yet? If not, it sounds like maybe you don't have MSP selected on the correct port. I would use the WTFOS preset in the presets tab under the VTX category so you can select the UART number you have it on and let it set of the proper CLI for you. The WTFOS config is exactly the same as this one, so it should work. Did you by chance update the flight controller to betaflight 4.4 and move a config over from an older version?

    I will mount a flight controller upside down Now I gave 180 degree on roll axis this is ok. Now if I want to change the yaw axis with inverted placement then should I give the value of the direction in which I want to change or should I give the opposite value?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest way would be to change the board alignment drop down rather than adding it to the individual axis alignments at the top. In that drop down you can select a degree and direction relative to the way the arrow is pointing on the board and also select them in a flip orientation which will fix your yaw direction.

    As a newbie, I recently purchased the DSI air 03 and the Integra goggles with the intent of installing them on a fixed wing aircraft. I am simply using an ESC and 3S battery-no flight controller. While looking for setup instructions, I found that using this setup my 03 transmitter cannot operate at high power, as it receives no arm command from the non-existing flight controller, completely removing the whole intent of purchasing the setup. The unit will operate at low power, essentially .25 MW. Do you know of a solution? Also, can I use the power supply wires to just connect to my battery balancing plug? The wires seem small for 2 amps out of a three S battery needed to run the transmitter. Thank you in advance.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are very welcome!! Firstly, keep your sparkling water away from the expensive video systems! :p Secondly, I don't think there is any kind of effective factory waterproofing on these things. I haven't seen anything in documentation about a rating, and from messing with them I haven't noticed anything that would really keep a liquid from messing something up. There is a coating on the boards, but there are so many connectors between the layers that it would just be impossible to protect.

    Hello wondering if the 03 unit provides a much better view than my Vista unit through my V2 goggles?
    To fully appreciate the goggles view with the new 03 unit do I need the Goggles 2?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The O3 does give you slightly more resolution in the V2 goggles. It goes from the 720p of the vista/air unit up to 810p on the O3 system. Now, having said that, you do get even more resolution when you are using the Goggles 2 which can provide 1080p. The trade off though is that you can get lower latency at 120hz on the V2 goggles where the Goggles 2 can only go up to 100hz and will have slightly higher latency. The really big difference for me is the O3's increased range and penetration due to work being done on the transmission system, which also works on the V2 goggles. Even at the same output power levels, it provides more detail when you are in low signal conditions.

Where I came out with it is that I would rather have the mipi laying on the bottom plate than curving down under the ESC, and I would rather have the UFL connectors up by the top plate than down at the bottom where a bad hit might clip one and break it.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      ok, so there is this new thing people are talking about with the O3 system where the focus adjustment inside is actually not secured. Apparently people are taking theirs apart and adding a dab of glue to keep it from rattling around and doing exactly what you are talking about. The assumption is that DJI will do this in the factory at some point, but for now I just see people tearing into theirs and doing it themselves :( If you want more info on it, I know I saw something about it on this weeks FPV news with JB and Blunty.

    the mamba mk4 f740 aio power the o3 air unit directly with vbat.... is there any over heating or risk by doing that......the aio also have a tvs diod protection for safety ..... or i need to cut the wire and add a bec for safety...... please help.. i am a little bit confused🙁

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      so taking a look at that board, it does indeed power it over vbatt. I wouldn't say there is an over heating risk as the power regulating components in the O3 VTX are working either way, but they may be dumping slightly more power into heat than they would be on a lower voltage input. If it were me, I would run it off of a 12v 2A (or 3A) BEC just because I don't trust vbatt with expensive components in any circumstance. Having said that though, there is a high likelihood that you would never have a problem using it on vbatt, so it is really up to how much comfort level you want to have.

    I wanted to put the AIKON F760 AIO on a 2.5" cinewhoop. It has a 10v 1.5A voltage regulator will that be enough to power the dji o3 air unit?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that would be 15w, which is just enough to run the O3. You won't have much head room for variance due to temperature or draw in other areas, but it should do it. I would also say that AIKON is probably rating that on the low end of what it is capable of since AIKON usually rates things in a way that would keep them from ever blowing up on you. It is likely capable of a bit more than the 1.5A :)

    Can you mount the O3 AU directly to the carbon? (Is the outside shell grounded?)

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just double checked with a meter, and the outer shell is in fact grounded on the O3 unit. If you use the corner screw holes on it to mount through the frame, then it will for sure be grounded to the frame its self. Personally, I prefer to either isolate it from the frame using the thick double sided tape or to mount it with a printed holder that doesn't directly connect the frame and the case of the unit.

What I have found to work the best is some good quality 3M VHB tape covering the bottom so it makes a bunch of contact with the bottom plate. I haven't had one of those let go on me at all!

      for the Vista you should be able to just leave it the way it is and have it work just fine. The only real difference between the config for this one and the vista is the MSP OSD stuff, but if you are running WtfOS then you would still need that anyway. Even if you aren't running MSP OSD on your Vista, having it there shouldn't cause any issues :) Just make sure your wiring lines up since the pinout of your connector may be different on the flight controller.

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hmmm, I wouldn't imagine it is an issue with the frame rate since the goggles tell the camera what to run at, but it could be an issue with the connector or cable between the camera and VTX. If you are seeing the OSD, then I would expect that the VTX is transmitting as it should, but no video from the camera would for sure make me think something is going on with the mipi cable. I would check the VTX end under the cover just to be sure it is seated and if it is then I would check the cable for damage and check the one in the camera. It could just barely be unseated and would cause that.

      I actually have a video on this in the works :) I have been waiting on it a bit since the current firmware for the Vista and old Air Unit are in a bit of limbo with DJI adding compatibility for the Goggles 2 to them and I don't want to confuse anyone. Basically, you will need to be in DIY mode on the goggles and plug them into a computer running the DJI assistant for FPV. In there you will need to go up in firmware to .0609. Once you have that, you will need to plug the goggles in to a computer running DJI assistant for Consumer Drones and update to the latest version. For the vistas and old air units you are already running, you will need to update them to the most recent version in the DJI Assistant for FPV software. Any O3 air units you plan to run will need to be updated to the most recent version in the DJI Assistant for Consumer Drones software. It is all very confusing isn't it? lol. The other hard part is that if you update your Vistas and old Air Units to the newest version in the Consumer Drones assistant you will break their compatibility with the v2 Goggles :(

      Are you copying the video files to the computer before playing them back, or playing them directly off of internal storage or card? If you aren't doing the copy, it could be that your wife's Apple has faster USB ports on it so it is able to play back the high bitrate video better than on your machine. On UART 2 in your ports tab is there anything else selected in that line? I have this problem with permanent low power mode and no recording both in the unit and the googles starting. Apparently the O3 does not get the arm command. The quad is on CRSF (UART 2) and the O3 is on UART3 (MSP), however, the SBUS cable of the O3 is not connected.
    In your video at 7:30 I am a little confused, if you mean "all" O3 wires including the actually not needed SBUS have to be connected to a UART? In that configuration I would i.e. put the O3 on UART2 and SBUS, the CRSF would be changed to UART 3 or 4.
    Thanks for your time and efforts for the FPV community -:)

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you have everything connected the way it should be! The wires I really meant were just the main UART for MSP since the arm command comes over that one, the SBUS wires are only important if you are using that radio link and it sounds like you went a different direction with that (good choice by the way). If your air unit isn't getting the arm notice, and you are very sure that MSP is enabled on the correct one, I would try swapping the TX/RX wires just to be sure the UART is communicating properly. That is really the only thing I can think off which would cause the issue you are having outside of just a bad UART for some reason. Give it a shot and let me know if it gets you fixed up!

    • @cusglider

      This configuration previously worked fine with a vista unit. I now get Betaflight OSD data allright and also DJI O3 OSD data, with the exception of the flight battery voltage (displays 0 volt, while Betaflight OSD gives me the correct reading). CRSF works flawlessly.
      I switched the UARTs for DJI TX/RX with no different result. I switched RX/TX cabeling with the result, that no DJI OSD data showed at all, indicating that the previous soldering was correct.
      So I still have no clue why the arm command does not reach the O3 unit and in turn disables the low power mode and turns on the video recordings, both inside the unit and the goggles.

    Honestly I don't drink the sparkles and am not rich.. and all I wanted was a damn video system I could drive an RC car around with and go maybe a couple blocks.
    Based on videos I've seen I got the impression I'd absolutely be able to do this by spending the money on digital, and my analog efforts have not quite satisfied me there. So boom, I spent the money, got all excited after finally getting everything activated and setup.. made sure I did everything right and had the O3 nicely cooled during a test run.. then walked out of my front apt door with the goggles to see the bitrate drop down to about 10mbps at the bottom of the stairs. Still got in my car since the signal came back a little as I walked into the lot.. then soon as I made the turn out of my small parking lot I saw the screen go black. This is about 75ft with a couple of my apt walls and my car frame as obstructions, at about 75% power where the vtx pulls about 8.5W. Doing the hack on the goggles to allow more channels didn't seem to make a difference. Different antennas didn't seem to make a difference. It honestly kind of aligns with what I suspected the entire time, but I've still seen too many videos showing it working well around neighborhoods etc.

      man, I really wish that had worked out for you because it would be a super awesome system for ground vehicles! I get a ton more range than you are getting out of mine...at least 1800 feet which is as far as I have been able to test with the spots I have around here. It really does sound like it is stuck at 25mw for some reason even though you did the channel hack. I would expect the kind of range you are getting out of that small output power, but at its full 700mw I would absolutely expect a whole lot more. Now, on thing I just though about is you might have a ton of wifi interference in an apartment complex that may be really messing with your reception. Have you tried it anywhere that the wifi may be less dense in the area?

    • @Magneticitist
      @Magneticitist ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BaconNinjaFPV There is actually quite a bit of a noise floor in my neighborhood so it's not the best spot.. but with analog I can sit in my apt and drive about 75ft across the lot to a drainage ditch on the other side of the street leading to my lot (going around the back). This is putting about 5 apartments in between me and the car in the process. So basically any kind of range test I do that doesn't involve clear LOS, my O3 is going to get beat by the analog stuff if we're talking sheer distance before losing navigable images.
      When I test the same vehicles out in other areas like open lots I can get more range but this is just mainly due to the less obstructions. I would imagine the range on the O3 is quite good or at least comparable/better in an open area but I hardly drive around in open areas.
      With the O3 I set it up to arm with an arduino nano and leave it on the low power setting unless it's armed. The goggles will tell me it's going in and out of low power mode and give the "motors off" message when disarmed but I could also see the increase in supply current between the various modes. Only an 'arm' signal brings it to full power which must be well over 700mW output given the 10W+ consumption. I have no idea why they did that where disabling low power mode in the settings only gives like 75%.
      It is really clear and low latency though.. so long as I'm in range. I mentioned this to another youtuber who said he has a friend who had the exact same experience and wasn't pleased with the O3 (at ground level).

      When I think back on all my testing I do always seem to get much better results away from my neighborhood. There are not tons of units around me but when I bring up the wifi list there's a good 15-20 routers on there. Kind of makes sense that 5.8 and 2.4 would struggle.

      I assume you are asking how you get it out of low power mode by using a UART. If so, you just have to wire it up to a flight controller and enable an MSP connection to the O3 unit so that it knows when the drone arms. Once the O3 unit sees the drone arm, it will kick out of low power mode, but it can only do that with a UART based MSP connection.

    I've got a SpeedyBee F405 v3 FC with a 9v/2A BEC on it... is this not going to be enough amperage for the DJI O3 Air Unit I also purchased to use with it? The F7 V3 FC has a 9v/4A BEC on it so maybe I should go with that one instead? Don't want to solder things before I know and can't really seem to find much information on the web. Also, since I bought the F405 V3 stack that came with an ESC would I be able to use the F405 V3 ESC with an F7 V3 FC or would I need to buy the whole F7 V3 stack?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your F405 v3 should be just enough to get it done with the plug that is on board. The numbers I recommended for this one are with a bit of padding for manufacturing variance and some adjustment for after the electronics start to warm up. You should be perfectly fine to use it as is unless for some reason the BEC on your particular board was just very under spec due to something with the manufacturing process :) Side note, you absolutely can use the ESC from a 405 v3 on their F7 v3. I believe the plug is even pinned out as a direct swap!

    I use the dji fpv remote 1 with all my home built quads, I got into fpv with the dji fpv so I’ve been holding on to the idea the fpv remote 2 might come useful with the vistas, witch it has but with strings attached, I put the o3 into my Quadmula and I’m not happy that if I loose vid I lose rc link at all, I was going to upgrade to goggles 2 to use the remote 2 with the vistas but if it’s the same deal with the rc link I’m out. I may just shelf the o3, go back to wtfos. Or if I hit the lottery and get goggles 2 just for my o3 rigs….but then I loose 120fps low latency. Dji is really messing with my emotions. O3 does look great but low light situations are crap, I can only fly at night right now so idk maybe a radiomaster boxer and goggles 2 are in my future and just run 2 sets of goggles. SMH wish I had more money. My fpv go bag is going to turn into a not so go bag. I’m 100% a water drinker, breakfast lunch and dinner…I hate soda. I’d say I choose water 95% of the time, sparkling water unflavored blows but I do enjoy a flavored sparkling water from time to time, cherry Bubbly is amazing….so much flavor

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The old black box remote was a super easy, and honestly really good, option! It didn't have the most range ever, but it got the job done and it did it all over your existing connection which was really nice. It is very unfortunate that when the video link drops, so does the RC link :( It does make sense though since the whole thing works as a network combining the VTX, goggles, and radio when you have it in that mode. Low light is a problem as well for sure, and I don't see any way out of that one...but maybe at some point we will have some different exposure algorithm options that will help with it. I think a Boxer is a terrific combination with this by the way!! I can't do even flavored sparkling water....it always makes the flavor taste so weird to me, lol.

      @@BaconNinjaFPV I was the same way about flavored seltzer water till I tried the brand Bubbly’s cherry flavor, it blew me away…it didn’t have that flavored seltzer taste as bad as the others…try it it’s good. When I got into fpv the dji fpv remote 1 just had to many advantages for me for my first build and bnf. I figured if I’m installing a vista/air unit I should take advantage of the whole system…being able to navigate through the goggle’s menu via fpv remote is nice. When wtfos came out I was happy with my set up. I’ve been on the edge of my seat waiting for o3 since July thinking it was going to get released along with the Avata but no in dji fashion they decide to release right before Black Friday and screw me again right before xmass when I didn’t have the extra money to spend. I’m telling you I think dji just likes to plot against me, I think their objective is to find out what I want and need then make me jump through hoops and empty my pockets.

      man, finding an open UART on that thing is going to be tough :( Also, you will either need to run the air unit on vbatt, or get an external BEC (the BEC is a better option) since the biggest on board is 10v at 1A. Since the board has an F411 chip, there are really only 2 UARTS available and that means one for your receiver and the other for GPS.

    22W? Source of this information?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I arrived at that number through some testing of my own and the testing Mad's tech did in his video on the subject. He came out at 15w of consumption with 4K high frame rate recording in full power mode when he bench tested his. I have had similar results, but I have also had some peak draw points after the VTX has been operating for a while and under poor signal conditions requiring lots of re-transmission at around 20w. I set 22w as a highest safe target so that no matter the operating conditions, or under specification of the on board BEC during peak battery draw, you won't get a black out.

      @@v1.hattrick totally understandable! Basically it will be very important to soft mount the camera since the gyro is actually inside of that unit. Lots of frame manufacturers are re-designing their frames with TPU camera plates or cages to allow for vibration dampening right at the camera housing. Without using some kind of TPU soft mounting, the stabilization gets very twitchy in and out of the unit itself. Either check your frame to see if they have a conversion kit for it, see if someone has designed on that you can print at home, or try to rig something up for your self to accomplish it. The frame I am running an O3 in is made by Quadmula and they have an O3 soft mounting kit available with thier frames for a couple of dollars extra.
