I was fit for the TR20P 11i-4i. I was one of the high spin high speed player. My Wilson V6 6 iron was spinning 7500. TR20P down to the 6k mark with 20 extra yards. FYI not enough people talk about how awesome a 10i and 11i are instead of PW and GW
Love these irons! I have TR20 P 4-6 and V 7-10 Modus Tour 105 S. Best feeling and performing iron I test 4 months ago. Have roughly 20 rounds in with these irons, and has been one of my best purchase.
Guys, I bought these as soon as they launched after having done a fitting with the Honma rep here. First, the Honma “Fitting Experience” is second to none! The company went out of their way to get me in-touch with the rep and set-up an outdoor fitting. Phenomenal customer service! As far as the irons go, I LOVE them! I had been playing a combo set of Z585/Z785 and the combo of the 4&5 in the TR20 P, 7-10 in the TR20 V have been great. Srixon didn’t have a chance in the fitting. Consistency in distance and spin across the faces has been SO good. I dropped my handicap 1.5 strokes this summer and these irons are a big part of that. I can’t say enough about what Honma is doing with their reps and getting folks a chance to do fittings, and the product itself is great. There is no doubt that Justin Rose leaving, and that they make a Beres driver that is $6k hurts them, it guys at the local CC have given them a chance, and there have been a WHOLE lot of them switching to Honma. I’ve told people, these irons are no more expensive than Titleist or Mizuno, AND neither of those companies will get someone in-touch with a rep to set-up a fitting near where the customer lives! I really believe Honma beats the competition JUST with that one service they provide. Unreal. Glad y’all finally gave them a look! Now for the TR20 460 driver to get some airtime!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I live in the NW burbs of Chicago and I need a new set of irons and wont buy without getting fitted. How and where did u get fitted during covid last summer ??
@@jimdaniels2333 I saw on Instagram they had started the “Honma Experience”, so I reached-out through Instagram, then called, and emailed their customer service. They got right back to me with a rep’s name and number to contact directly. I left him a message, he called me back, and we went from there.
I know when it comes to reviews of golf equipment, I watch the TXG reviews before anybody else's. I also trust Matt and Ian's thoughts better than anyone else
I have been gaming the TR20Ps for about four months (fitted). I am a 3 hdcp and tend to be a bit steep. Often thought that maybe a blended set would be better as I do not need the distance but I cannot complain about the forgiveness and feel all the way down to the “10” iron. I find them very easy to shape both directions and am still holding greens with the decreased lofts. Thanks for the video! Been waiting for this one.
We haven’t seen Ian hit shots in a while. I can definitely tell how hard he’s been working on his swing, delivery is as neutral as I think I’ve ever seen him. Way to go Ian!
Picked up a set of Honma TW 747 V forged irons just last month. After two rounds and two range sessions I can say they have outstanding feel but also not very penalized for miss hits. I am able to work shots and get the exact feedback I need. Love Honma irons!
I went with the v’s and the 4 and 5 in p’s in a club champions fitting over the t100s’s. Those were my obvious 2 choices in the fitting. I liked the look and feel better of the Honmas. They gave me more confidence. I haven’t been disappointed at all! Thanks for the video guys.
Didn’t think anything would replace my Adams Cmb until I tried the Tr20p.Had them 4 months now and absolutely love them. I’ve gained 10 yards but also more control and interestingly not lost spin.
Those are impressive. I really love how they sandblasted the top line to make it easier to know when it's square. That little detail is not something most companies do. Would be curious to know about gapping issues and bounce when blending the P, V and B. Fantastic start to the New Year 💪🎉🥂👏
Nice way to start the new year. A new video of TXG!! Guys a happy and successful new year. That your great channel may hit at least 300K subscribers this year.
Glad y'all finally did some testing with the Honma irons. I got fitted for a combo set of the TR20P and TR21X back in November and they are great irons. Very fast and extremely forgiving
Ian and Matt get plenty of love from this community, and rightfully so, as they are fantastic on camera. But I want to give a shout out to the folks that work on the production side of these videos. The voices/sound and editing is always top notch. I have zero desire or interest in these clubs but I still watched because everyone involved creates such an awesome end product.
7 hcper. Got fit into a combo of P (4-7) and V (8-w) back in September by Nick at Truespec Boston. LOVED the feel and performance great feedback off club. We decided that the improvement over my z565 wasn't significant enough so we just went with a shaft change on my current gamers. Really cool of him to go that route with me and not pressure me to buy. Will 100% be testing Honma again when I am ready to upgrade the heads. 🤙
With all the technology available today it's really interesting how many times it still comes down to "feel", be it sound or vibration of the hands at impact. And IMHO, golfers with a handicap above 10 are less concerned with "feel" than results, where better players might be willing to give up a bit of performance (distance?) for a better feel? Of course spin rates are the real key for better players and your demos bring that truth home every time.
They really look lovely. A great bounce back from Honma. 👏🏻 thanks for the reply yesterday Ian. Looking at irons this year.... held off jumping on the Mizzi 921 until new irons this spring. These are my type. Would like at least a trio of choices. 🙏
I really like my Honma's. The build quality is excellent and they perform as good or better than any comparable club I've tried. BRING ON THE VIDEOS !!
Its like you guys read my mind. I was testing PX 6.0 vs 6.5 and just so happened to have the TR20V head for the test. I was very impressed and was getting better than normal numbers with the 6.5. I play Z765 with TGI 110 currently. Will be revisiting for sure
I was just fitted at Club Champion for and put TR20V with Nippon Modus 120X in my bag. I went into the fitting determined to buy the irons that delivered the best results. I hit TM P7MC, Mizuno JPX 921 Tour (really wanted this club to be the one), Titleist 620CB, and the Srixon Zx7. My 6 iron Swing speed is ~96mph I did gain some distance which I attribute to the stronger lofts, however these still had great launch and spin numbers characteristics. Where I noticed the greatest difference was in my dispersion (which is also attributable to the shaft, I was playing Project X 6). The Mizuno felt incredible and these feel very similar, maybe not quite as soft feeling but very, very close. I was really surprised that I chose to play Honma, but that choice was based on their performance for my swing. What I really want to say, is that Honma makes a really good club that might not be front of mind for the average North American player. If you get a good high quality fitting you might be surprised by what you actually hit the best.
Gaming the TW737V since 2018 and when saw this video my eyes lit up!! Love to see them up againts Ian’s TC-201’s Japanese irons feels are out of this world
Great review, thanks. Would the JPX 921 Forged be another club to compare to the TR20P? The mid handicap iron category is getting very crowded with a lot of great options! Well done TXG!
I've had 3 sets of Honma and still have 2 but bought the p760 irons 2nd hand trying them currently against my Honma 737 head size on the p760 way smaller. And don't launch as night as the Honma. I like the height the Honma go and land soft on out fast summer greens. Looking forward to the reviews on the others 👍 Happy new year guys. All the very best
I’m playing last year’s TW-X model and am totally in love with them. They look amazing and have incredible feel. And I’m hitting them just as well, if not better than the 919 HotMetals I had previously
i bought the tr20v but i haven’t picked them up yet. shafted with nippon modus 115 limited edition black. gamer irons are callaway mav pro with true temper elevate 105. mav pro have been great, we just wanted a little more launch and spin. tested the tr20v, jpx 921t, and miura tc201. miura and honma were the standouts. miura had less offset, but both felt so good and performed almost identically. went with the honmas because they were about half the price with the same performance. i can’t wait to get them on the course!
Been playing the tr20ps for a few months now. Got them shafted areotech steel fibers. 5-pw. Really like the irons, I went with these over the v’s because of what you found out. 5-6 yards less on a slight miss hit.
Happy New Year All, hope the hangovers are easing! Those Irons are damn Pretty! A Japanese Iron H2H would be fun, Honma, Srixon & Mizuno having a Catwalk beauty contest would be a great start to 2021.
I played the 747Vs for a little bit, such a good club. Same S20C forged steel as Miura (I realize forging process may be different), loved the pre worn leading edge. All around great irons.
Would like to see them up against the Srixon. I have just progressed from the t300’s into the Srixon zx5’s perfect progression iron from game improvement into something bit smaller but similar performance but with more feeling. The Honma loom great also. Excited to see what the new Srixon iron brings as I have left out the 4 iron to see what the new more forgiving iron brings. Ian’s swing though absolute class so controlled and stable. Happy new year can’t wait to see what adjustments get made in your bags for this year
I tried these compared to my current gamers. I play Callaway 2018 X-Forged and the Honma’s are incredible. Look and feel is exceptional. This iron is criminally underrated! Would love to see the V up against Zx7!
I found a set of pre-owned TR20-V, graphite, I am 72 and just switching to graphite as my strength is going down even though lifting weights to keep strong, plus ARTHRITUS. ( I have always liked hitting the smaller head) Trying to find an accurate graphite shaft has been frustrating. After watching this video, I caught that they said the P version did not loose much distance even with a less than good hit, compared to V. So found a discounted set (not many people buy these irons) of new P as well as offering a 50% bonus on trades (PGA Superstore), so decided to trade in V for P. Also the P goes a little farther due to loft, head size is just slightly larger. I would call these graphite shafts better than many I have tried. (85 gram) Still not as accurate as light weight steel stiff, but I have noticed my fingers are not as bad the next day. Anyway, took the P out today for first time and sure enough, I hit two almost off the toe (I could feel it when I hit it) and really did not loose much distance compared to a bad hit with the V. Both have a soft feel when hitting.
I play the tr20P and I love them. The i10 and i11 even give me backspin on the green. ( I am a 20 hpc)They give a lovely buttery feeling when struck in the middle. They are definitely worth a try! Happy New Year 🥂
Great start to 2021 lads...now go enjoy a Mac 18 :) I'm in JPX 900's, going to invest in something new this year. Would love to see these tested against vs the ZX5/7 and JPX 921 forged.
Definitely would like to see a comparison to the srixon irons... These are quite appealing. The P reminds me a bit of the jpx forged 921's with that slot in the back.
Definitely interested in the Honma versus Srixon testing. Looking to replace my irons (2008 Di9s) with something a little more modern this year. Have tried the Hot Metals and ZX5s. Found the ZX very forgiving and great feel but struggled with the Mizunos for some reason. Honma isn't very well known here in New Zealand but I think one of the golf stores does stock them from time to time.
I tested the TR20V and the ZX7. Got the same numbers comparatively, but the ZX7's were about $250 cheaper. But, and this is only a personal feels, but I felt like the ZX7's had a slightly thinner sole and I just like them more off of the actual grass turf than I did the Honma.
Question for Ian: Did the lady get her box of Milk Tray? New to the channel and loving the reviews, the high handicapper fittings and you two bouncing off each other. Keep it up lads 😜
I bought the TW-X after last years review but swapped them out as too powerful. I now have the TW737V and will defiantly be looking at the TR20v/p COBO once the prices drop later in the year :)
when did Ian become a complete animal!? atta boy with those ball speeds. honestly for me Honma has some of the best aesthetics at address out there. That's the first box that has to be checked, club has to frame the ball up just right. Mind talking about the sole design a bit if you do more stuff on these guys?
Why would you bend the lie angle flat on the first iron if you consistently are 4-5 degrees toe down at impact? Definitely explains thin contact on most shots. Great path and face angle.
Would love to see those blades too. Maybe a little Japanese iron head to head - Miura, Mizuno, Honma, Srixon. Lot of nice products from these companies.
Please indicate which iron and what the loft is. Lofts are no longer standard so the numbers shown are impossible to compare to other makes and models.
I would like to see a comparison of the Honma irons or driver used by Justin Rose and the Taylormade he went back to. Is there any reason why rather than he preference.
Just curious if you have any recommendations for club fitters in British Columbia! Wanting to get a new driver but unsure who to go to. I also heard a rumour that TXG does virtual fittings?
“Handsome” way to start 2021 Happy New Year Everyone. Nice to see the TXG Top Dog doing some reps on the review. 👍 #golf #subscribe #homnagolf #sadfaceleftyhere
You guys should invite Kyle berkshire down when travel is allowed again and have him hit drives with the autoflex. Or, a friendly long drive competition with Matt even, maybe Kyle using his 1 iron vs Matt with his play driver. Would be cool.
I feel like 4 is the sweet spot for number of iron options. Too many different models and lines seems inefficient and gets confusing. Blade-players CB-players distance-game improvement.
Ian, in this video you mentioned that the Honma Tr20P irons have fast faces, less loft and lower spin. As you have said before this helps players that are hi traj & hi spin. Is there a fast iron geared for players who are low spin & low traj?
Definitely like to see Srixon vs. Honma. And possibly including the Mizuno JPX921's.
Agree given how similar while also comparing price point.
I would love to see a little battle of the Japanese irons in 2021.

Honma vs Mizuno vs Srixon vs XXIO vs Miura vs Epon

Why would you bend the lie angle flat on the first iron if you consistently are 4-5 degrees toe down at impact? Definitely explains thin contact on most shots. Great path and face angle.
Yes please, I've got z765's but would like to move on. Guidance on Srixon zx7, Homna TR20 v vs Mizuno forged / tour 921.
Would love to see those blades too. Maybe a little Japanese iron head to head - Miura, Mizuno, Honma, Srixon. Lot of nice products from these companies.
Agree, Honma, Srixon Mizuno, yes please
Happy new year guys
Would love to see you do a review of the new Wilson CB irons guys. Thanks
Also, I’d love to see the comparison to Srixon video.
Could you guys do a TR21X review? The TW-X review was excellent, but it'd be good to know how far they moved in terms of feel and performance.
Honma TW727 iron line was a beautiful 🤩
These are my next combo set
Swing looking silky ian , nice to watch
Love seeing Ian hit balls. I get thrown off by Matt being a lefty. Well it could also be he hits a hybrid farther than I hit driver. 😂
Yes please ZX7 and 5 against these. I would like to know more about the face on the P model.
You said cast and I’m wondering what it is.
I’d love to see the head to head vs srixon. I’m a z565 player and these are very nice
Please indicate which iron and what the loft is. Lofts are no longer standard so the numbers shown are impossible to compare to other makes and models.
Would love to see tr20 p vs zx5 vs 921 forged
Would love to see these compared against the Srixon’s
Loving the Japanese iron reviews , would you consider looking at Epon ? 😉🏌️♂️⛳️🍻
Have a Honma TW sand wedge, very nice club. Good products.
Would love to see TW-X vs TR21-X
Interesting difference in the dynamic lie angle delivered between these 2 clubs, no mention of why?
All in my delivery, toe down when I add speed is my tendency. Helps me tilt the face to the right.
Would love to see these vs Srixon vs Mizuno
There awesome. Playing the v model. 5 index
Please test the Honma 757 series..
I would like to see a comparison of the Honma irons or driver used by Justin Rose and the Taylormade he went back to. Is there any reason why rather than he preference.
Have the TW-X so seeing the performance of the new X will be interesting. Old X vs new X?
👍👍👍Love Honma my irons, great review!
How about ballistic iron ? Would be nice to see them
Wow if you kept all shots in the dispersion is incredible. Ian and Matty may have to switch places.
Lol, I’m happy to make the odd cameo but Matty is the machine!!
They are doing 21% off from the honma website right now
You guys should invite Kyle berkshire down when travel is allowed again and have him hit drives with the autoflex. Or, a friendly long drive competition with Matt even, maybe Kyle using his 1 iron vs Matt with his play driver. Would be cool.
What a straight flying
I feel like 4 is the sweet spot for number of iron options. Too many different models and lines seems inefficient and gets confusing.
Blade-players CB-players distance-game improvement.
Please try and review the new Miura tb Zero.
I'm very curious about these versus other brands
Jesus swinging that 6i faster than my driver
Ian, in this video you mentioned that the Honma Tr20P irons have fast faces, less loft and lower spin. As you have said before this helps players that are hi traj & hi spin. Is there a fast iron geared for players who are low spin & low traj?
P770 is probably the best for this.
