  • In this video we look at some of the best golf clubs to come from Japan! For many years Japan has been looked upon as the best producer of forged golf irons in the world. Is this stereotype accurate? And which of Japan's golf club manufactures make the best products. Is it Honma and the TR20 driver or irons?

Check out Fourteen Golf and Epon. Fourteens are phenomenal and their wedges area some of the best I’ve ever hit (Vegas are easily number 1)
But get your hands on some Muira 201’s or 501’s. Unreal how good they feel.

Tiger's irons in his heyday were forged by Endo (the makers of Epon). This is now well documented and can be googled easily. Endo also forges a lot of the high-end OEM forged irons, especially for Srixon and Mizuno. I hit them all in my fitting and loved the Mura, Epon's, and Mizuno Forged JPX. I ended up with the Epon's based on personal feel and looks. I get a little more distance from them as well so that doesn't hurt :)

I just bought the Honma TR21x irons and my thoughts on them are summed up at 17:21 in this video. I'm on the way up to Carl's golfland to buy the TR460 driver now. I'm actually replacing a set of Mizuno JPX-EZ irons I was playing previously. Just time to get away from the game-improvement range and move towards the "better players" clubs.

Wow Pete... Both iron models, and the driver look great. Especially the simplicity of that driver - like you said, that’s the biggest surprise. Shame you forgot about Srixon, but there are a few other smaller Japanese brands too: Yonex, Epon, PRGR, and then these four - OnOff, Roddio, Fourteen Golf and GIII - all part of the Globeride stable, formerly known as Daiwa. There are some beautiful irons and wedges that come out of Japan, that’s for sure. Loving your vids, cheers from a re-lockdown Melbourne 🇦🇺

I don't know what it is about japanese irons, but I have always loved the feel of them. I have yet to play a Miura Iron, but Mizuno mp20 and Honma TW-747 V are almost equal in my mind in regards to looks, feel, forgiveness and distance. They're perfect to me. Hi Finch, I started golf at age of 47 years old and now it has been 2 years. hahaha pretty old to start the hobby. I use Honma BeZeal, I love it because the club face is bigger and easier to hit. I didn't realised golf is not an easy game. I had tried few iron from leading brand but I can't hit it well. I think Honma is the best because it very forgiving and make me enjoy looking at the ball flying high. I have Taylormade now but still love my Honma.

I have been using Fourteen brand for the past few years - absolutely love them they are soft and true . Just recently ran into a deal couldn’t refuse on some Miuras ( wow ) .
Not as long but they are the most accurate and forgiving I’ve had my hands on ! My overall opinion is Japanese irons and wedges are worth the money to promote confidence and trust .

I retired my Titleist persimmons this year and replaced them with Mizunos and have been very happy with the results. Had a Callaway driver and gave it away after getting the Mizuno which I currently have set at 11-1/2 degrees which gets me just as far as the Callaway set at 10-1/2 degrees. Not going to change my Callaway irons yet, but when I do I'll be looking at Mizuno first.

I play Miura would never change, Japan's best for mine, they hit straight, weight is perfect and consistent, forgiving, smooth off the club face and the ball stops dead on landing on the green from 4 iron to LW. I used to play forged Brisgestone Precept Tour premiums from early 2000's they were nice when hit well but a bit less forgiving. KBS $ taper is a lovely shaft as well in the 201's.

I play Epon AF 305 the new model and I find them perfect for me. Easy to middle, easy to move left or right up or down. The relief on the front and back of the sole makes turf interaction in any condition soft. They as most Japanese clubs are a little on the heavy side, but at my age that helps with the distance. Highly recommended

I love these clubs and would only consider replacing the irons with another set of the same when these are worn out. I’d be willing to upgrade the wedges to Miura K-Grinds but I really don’t think it will be necessary given how much feel the Mizunos have. Now if I can just figure out my woods...

Currently playing a set of Bridgestone irons (Endo forged)... And they are exquisite when struck in the middle. But then again most forged "small cavity" irons are as well (think Titelist CB). But they have a little something in the looks department. And there's the mystique, which doesn't help at all factually but might end up being one of the factors why I'm a good iron player (relative to my handicap).

First of all it so nice that you have finally tested some Honma clubs, I was waiting for this video all the time.
In the point of how good they feel I am completely with you Pete. Five years ago I had a fitting for my irons and I tested the Mizuno MP18 SC against the Honma TW 727 V. The feeling of both clubs was incredible and maybe the Honma were slightly softer in feel. In the end I went for the Honma, maybe because of the reason that nobody was using them at that time and honestly till now, I am not regretting that I have bought them. I am still in love with them.
In my opinion the older TW version looks definitely better than the new TR series.

Hello Niklas!!! Liked your comment. I have the same story. I was fit for Mizuno MP18 SC. I used it for 3-4 yrs. I went on to visit a Golf shop and tested Honma TW 737 V. The feel was superb and the looks upon addressing the ball is far better than Mizuno. More workability for shot shape. Actually, someone from the Golf store asked me to try Honma TW 747 but for his surprise, I was hitting the 737 better than the 747. Even my twin brother who has Mizuno MP18 SC was surprised about Honma TW 737 when he visited me here last month in CA. I urged you to try Honma TW 737 V. You will like it!!! I haven't tried the TR series yet.

I’ve had that same set in my back since 2005. Worn them down to the nub but they still perform and feel incredible when I strike them correctly. Pros always give me props when I mention the set

Nothing feels like a mizuno. Except a Miura which feels even better 😉 I got a combo set with miuras and Mizunos in them. Love both, but nothing beats Miura for quality and x-factor of playing something special.

Thanks for the great video. Would you recommend the TR 20 P to a 12 handicapp? Or should I buy more forgiving clubs?

I’ve got a set of forged Honma’s. I went in to buy clubs that felt the best to me. And they are pure. I am so stoked with my honma’s. I tried em all and was left with honma mizuno and Bridgestone (all Japanese clubs). I tried the Titleist etc but the feel on these is outrageous

I have a low handicap friend in China where Japanese golf clubs are very popular. When I asked him about Japanese forged irons, he recommended Epon and Yamaha.
