Emphasis on underwater, i.e. I'm not counting ambushes as those mostly take place on land. I meant all suits are submerged for most, if not all of their battle. All that comes to mind is the 2nd Atlas Gundam fight in Bandit Flower and a single episode of Gundam Build Divers Re:rise. Yes we have a small percentage of scenes of them getting onto the land and causing some serious damage, which is technically what they are used for, but those don't emphasize the aquatic qualities of the suits beyond explaining how they snuck in.
for some reason the Dom's have always made me think of the F-4 Phantom. they both take alot of punishment and if you put a strong enough engine onto a bus it will fly. thats how i feel about the Doms
What makes this all so sad is that the Zaku, along with the Gouf and Dom, were technological masterpieces. If only their creators weren't exercises in mismanagement.
Individually they were, but Zeon didn't make any serious try for parts compatibility or standardization until the last month of the OYW. Engineers want standardization and pilots want familiar controls. They got neither.
The High Mobility Zaku Ground Type has got to be my favorite Zaku II Variant aesthetics wise. Especially that Deen West Custom. Thats why i like Zakus, highly customizable and versatile.
Love these production history videos, and this was my favorite as ever since I started playing Battle Operation 2 I have had this new affinity for the Zaku cannon. the stability and modification of a zaku, a long range support, not to mention it's design. Everything I want in a mobile suit all rolled into one.
I favored the Zaku I over the Zaku II in GBO2. Ive given players a run for their money in a Zaku I and have piloted all variations of the Zaku I favoring the original more so than the others. Zaku I is so underrated in GBO2 that it feels like players dont take you seriously enough when you're piloting a standard Zaku I and think you're a newbie. Thats when you catch them off guard and make them pay for underestimating you in it, making them realize that you choose the Zaku I as a preference and not because its all you had for choice MS. Great pilots know how to turn a weak MS into a great MS that outclasses others thats meant to be stronger than it.
K-type Fan over here! One weird thing about the Zaku Cannon on the Gundam Battle Universe game is that its Big Guns are actually machine guns instead of rocket launchers. And it uses them as freaking TONFAS!!! I LOVE IT
Part of the cool thing about lore videos like these is that it's gotten me back into Gundam, and looking into models other than just Gundam models. Like I want the Zaku Hizack AND the Zaku Cannon. Both look great! Also, it just makes me laugh that one' Zaku's advanced tech is... a windshield wiper for the mono-eye. Just makes me giggle thinking about how Federation techs astounded by this. "Zeon has adapted car technology to their mobile suits! It can see better in the rain than ours!"
I honestly love these development history videos cause I am a sucker for weird lore on development of these robots. I hope you do one for the Gouf some day. I know it eventually got phased out in favor of Doms and didn't get to go to space but I love the Gouf and it's varients.
Nice to see where in the Zaku line the Zaku Cannon came from, have been enjoying the Rabbit Type in GBO2. Its gun and cannon are good, but those rocket pods just rip through MSs.
Just on the note of the Zaku Cannon, let's take a pause for a second. Dual weild grenade/rocket launchers, with a 120mm Gatling Gun and other fire arms... Ahem... wtf. This is some good stuff
You can really tell the original creature took inspiration from the German Panzer 4 as it had tons of variations and was used in wars as recent as the whole ISIS war in the middle east which is nuts to think about. A 70 plus year old tank still slugging it out with tanks from the 80's 90's and more modern unit too. Really mirror the zaku since those were used up into the UC 90's, this is one the the many things that make the original so good.
Well to be fair, Given that Zeon's engineers likely have little to no experiences with marine MS, there have to start from somewhere. Adapting a Zaku frame for amphibious warfare is a way for them to test the water if you will.
Not going to lie, I love how in depth you get with the numerical values for these mobiles suits. I especially love the OYW stuff, as I honestly haven't kept up with the series much past that, so I always enjoy seeing all these abnormal, customized variants made for such specific war-fronts. The zaku cannon production number discrepancy could be explained that some zaku half cannons were retrofitted into zaku cannons since long range fire support would be more useful for zeon remnants as it would allow them to pull off more ambitious ambushes. It would also allow them to engage at longer ranges which will help preserve their forces since beam weaponry rose to the forefront after the gryps war as the primary armament of mobile suits.
Wait what?! My Zaku II Custom is an actual thing?! Awww, and here I was thinking I had built a unique suit... I mean I used different layout with Gouf Custom arms, ZIIHMT R-2 torso and backpack, J Type missile legs, Zaku II FS head, Gyan Missile Shield, Gouf Heat Sword (Glow Edition ^.^) and a MMP-80 though I'm thinking about adopting a Leo's 105mm "Drum Gun"... And yes those of you who play Gundam Breaker 3 have probably come across a similar build in Bounty Hunter section, the only difference there is I'm using Quess's mega gatling instead of my model's MMP and I tend to bounce between a GNX Red saber and the Heat Sword depending on which version of the suit is registered on any given day... Incidently, does anyone know where I might be able to buy a MS-06GR? I dig the machine's looks and colors! ^.^
I didn't know the HiMo Ground Type & Desert Type existed until i dropped them in GBO2. The Zaku Desert was my go-to General Type early on but i've since acquired better MS. Didn't know about the alternate version of the Zaku Desert.
Zakus are my favourite MS, and in my opinion, without the succesful development of the Zaku I and II, the Gundam and GMs wouldn't have been developed. Thus, they are the most important MS in my opinion.
I just love how versatile the zaku II was compared to many of the other zeon mobile suits. Though next to the zaku's the gouf custom was second favorite ms in the war. Doms were okay but never really liked their design and if remember was very expensive to make. I think zaku II and the gouf custom type would be my main choice for ground forces. Gelgoogs I use to focus on space combat and replace the zakus. Then aquatic mobile suits...hard to choose, but wouldn't use a zaku marine type.
For Zaku cannon and marine zaku, I think the Federation has mass produced those after the one-year war. That's why we can also see the space type zaku cannon in zeta gundam

Can you make a video about the competition for the first zeon mass prod MS? Battle between zeonic zaku and zimmad zudah, and perhaps other manufactory, if there are any other
My guess is because it’s done to cut costs on ammunition or Zeon’s opinion of them differs from the Federation; they may not view them as efficient weapons for mobile suits especially when they already have a machinegun. And if the 120mm machinegun doesn’t have enough fire rate, the newer MMP-80 machinegun has it covered.
If I had to guess, it's probably because of their initial focus on anti-battleship combat. Zeon developed mobile suits first, so they probably weren't prepared for anti-mobile suit combat. The Federation suits usually have vulcan guns to handle human infantry or destroying mobile suit sensors, since they developed mobile suit beam weaponry to more efficiently destroy enemies.
Well ending on the marine MS we have one obvious route to go ahead, the assorted *many* marine mobile suits and mobile armors of zeon. (Also the question of why a nation based in space would spend so much effort developing so many marine mobile suits when the federation never showed any serious inclination to that during the OYW) And I feel like at some point you'll need to tackle Zeon OYW mobile armors. Big Zam, Azdam, Zakrello etc.
also they can use jet skis as in skis with jets on them........... best part of the video also kakarot, did you ever play mobile suit gundam rise from the ashes on dreamcast, the K type zaku used to kill me, that thing was like a super zaku in that game it had missile launchers, and that canon
5 steps that could have easily won the war for Zeon: 1) Reverse the Zaku's shoulders so it can shoot and shield itself simultaneously. 2) Arm all the Zakus with leg missiles and head vulcans (like those on the FS type) by default. 3) Make Zaku variants simple add-on parts instead of modifying the suit's main body. 4) Straighten the Dopp. 5) Shrink and flatten the Magella.
Here is a question for the next Q&A video. How powerful was the Dragonar units compared to Gundams in Universal Century and was the Mass Produced Dragoon units (same universe) also comparable to a Gundam?
The Zaku II is like the Street Fighter II of mobile suits. They fill the hangar bay up with dozens of variants, updates, spin-offs of the same suit that everyone loves and enjoys so much to the point they can discern each of the subtle differences between each version. They’re hyped to wonder what the third Zaku would be like, but they never release that third one for quite a long time. By the time it finally does come out, it’s just not as well loved as the Zaku II even though its performance is pretty decent for the modern machine of its time. Sadly, the Zaku never does make it past III and instead has its legacy carried on in its spiritual successors: the Geara Doga and later the Geara Zulu. Speaking of which, imagine what it be like if the Zaku was the Resident Evil of mobile suits and Zapcom-I mean Zeon released a Zaku IV?
Zeon: Well, we’ve taken over California, the home of 99% of all US military contractors. We should let them develop our ground type mobile suits. Military contractors: *heavy drooling*

And if the 120mm machinegun doesn’t have enough fire rate, the newer MMP-80 machinegun has it covered.
This is why Zeon lost air superiority.
Some of the later Zaku II C-5 types had vulcans on their wrists. And ground Zaku had S mines for anti-personal defenses.
@@magnatcleo2043 Ya true but even Neo Zeon never really fixed that issue.
Can't wait until the next Zaku development history video... or the Gouf development history video.
Can we get the Gelgoog Development history as well? Gelgoog deserves a place among the 30+ development histories here too.
I'm double posting, but speaking of Zimmad, I'd really like to see you do a video on their history and mobile suits!
Did they ever make a gunpla of the Marine Hizack/Zaku Mariner? Those things looks right up my alley.
cant wait for the always bulky zaku iii lore video
that's a great video, make more development history pls
The Zaku 2 Deen West Custom is really impractical but damn I really want to see it represented in a game.
Well ending on the marine MS we have one obvious route to go ahead, the assorted *many* marine mobile suits and mobile armors of zeon. (Also the question of why a nation based in space would spend so much effort developing so many marine mobile suits when the federation never showed any serious inclination to that during the OYW)
And I feel like at some point you'll need to tackle Zeon OYW mobile armors. Big Zam, Azdam, Zakrello etc.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that the Zaku Cannon was operated by the Federation during the Gryps Conflict.
Zaku: the AK of mechs, substantially.
also they can use jet skis as in skis with jets on them........... best part of the video
also kakarot, did you ever play mobile suit gundam rise from the ashes on dreamcast, the K type zaku used to kill me, that thing was like a super zaku in that game it had missile launchers, and that canon
5 steps that could have easily won the war for Zeon:
1) Reverse the Zaku's shoulders so it can shoot and shield itself simultaneously.
2) Arm all the Zakus with leg missiles and head vulcans (like those on the FS type) by default.
3) Make Zaku variants simple add-on parts instead of modifying the suit's main body.
4) Straighten the Dopp.
5) Shrink and flatten the Magella.
For 3, that was basically the United Maintenance Plan
But they only did it very late into the war soooo
You forgot step 6 to stop investing in stupid projects
I wished we have a modern Hguc or hg origin Zaku ii JC
JE is probably an abbreviation for Jager. Most likely a custom sniper unit
The goodest boys.
The only Gundam Development History video not in the playlist for this series.
he fixed it
Kakarot197 you should do a development history of the Acguy. In my opinion it was the most successful amphibious mobile suit of Zeon.
I just ordered a Zaku ii, nice!
Looking forward to seeing you continue Zeons Earth specific mobile suits.
Gouf
Efreet
Dom
Ahh zaku ii
Is the AK47 For MS Battle Era
To be honest, the Zaku Marine Type is pretty good on Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2. I use it alot and it performs great.
when will do the development history of the gundam rx series or the full armor gundams
seriously at this point, the zaku 2 has more codename than my art projects
This is no Zaku boy! No Zaku!
Few episodes later, get himself isekai to Build Fighter universe
Zeon: Well, we’ve taken over California, the home of 99% of all US military contractors. We should let them develop our ground type mobile suits.
Military contractors: *heavy drooling*
@Kakarot197 Hey, when are doing a video of Gundam 0079 Side story: Rise from the ashes?
When Zeon mobile suit pilots mention Human types, what are they referring to?
I actually have a t shirt of the MSM-01 Zaku but it calls it the MS-06M and the name is in Japanese and has that same picture. Edit: I just realized they are the exact same unit.
