On Ultimate Mode bosses are slightly more difficult than on Normal. But at the same time, on Ultimate, Zangetsu, the first character, has all of his abilities from the very beginning, and you can still recruit your allies (you have to choose between a power and ally on normal).
Nightmare mode also strengthens bosses, you play as Miriam, Alfred and Gebel and the stage 8 is replaced by stage 9 and has unique final boss.

Have you heard about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night? Koji Igarashi, the ex-producer of the Castlevania games was raising money on Kickstarter to make the spiritual successor to the Castlevania series. One of the milestones was the retro-styled prequel to the game. It was released a few days ago. I don't know if the Ritual of Night will be good or not, but Curse of the Moon is very good game and a great tribute to the classic Castlevania NES trilogy.

To be fair, the kickstarter as of how I saw it a while ago seemed like a very bland and lifeless game with a confused art style. If the game turns out half decent, will you do a no damage run of the bosses?

I have to say the Zangetsu boss fight has to be the best one I've seen in these kinds of games. The fact that the 3 characters had to work together to beat him was a truly awesome detail.
Yea pretty cool, I've seen the same in other games too. Wings of Vi final boss had the 3 characters working together as well.
Yeah, his 3 comrades desperately trying to save him, yet could only save his soul. Zangetsu is by far my favourite character! Can't wait to play him in RotN

While the battle felt short, it definitely was sweet.
Awesome run. And now that I know the names of these bosses , I can dig up some trivia on their names!
1. Glutton Train - Not much to say. It is what it is, which is a very interesting take on the haunted train cliche!
2. Focalor - A demon duke who looks like a man with gryphon wings and has power over wind and water, sinking ships and drowning men as he pleases. Explains his bizarre appearance quite well, plus his area and powers (wind + water = cold temps/ice)
3. Valefor - Another demon duke. He lures people into the temptation to steal and is a good familiar to thieves 'until they are caught in his trap'. In this case his trap is falling into his inescapable pit, an illusory one at that. He also commands ten legions of demons, thus why random enemies show up in his fight.
4. Valac - A demon described as an angel-esque boy riding a two headed dragon. Often seen on rooves and is associated with serpents and finding treasure. So I guess they scrapped the boy part and went with the two headed serpentine dragon theme. You also do fight him outside on a tower top/side.
5. Andrealphus (sic) - A Grand Marquis demon who first appears as a peacock before switching to a human appearance. Also said to turn men into birds. Seems they merged the human and bird forms together here. He's also supposedly very noisy in peacock form, and I guess you could say he talks a lot here as well.
6. Bloodless - Clearly a wink and a nod to the infamous noble, Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who was put on trial for torturing and murdering young girls. Much like Vlad Tepes is to Dracula, Bathory inspired numerous vampire myths and lore due to her crimes. These morphed from the rumors of her motive for murdering the girls to be in order to bathe in their blood to preserve her youth.
7. Bathin - A duke/grand duke of Hell with a snake tail . He is well educated in and values precious stones and herbs, and he has the power of astral projection. He can also warp men across whole countries. Explains the whole idea of his lightning fast attacks and light/plasma based moves.
8. Gremory - A duke of Hell who likes to appear as a beautiful woman with a duchess' crown tied around his waist. Commands 26 demon legions. He can see past, present, and future, as well as hidden treasures. Likes to seduce women young and old but especially maidens. Notably the art of him in demon books has horns very similar to his second boss form as well. He also is often seen riding a camel, and if you look closely, he does indeed have the head of a camel attached to his crown belt, shooting energy attacks at you.
Honestly I am blown away at the creativity and ingenuity with how they incorporated the demons' lore into these bosses! They really did their homework and I'd have never guessed it! Besides Bloodless, who I recognized instantly, I thought they just made a lot of these up!

Interesting game, very castlevania-like indeed. Also like the neat detail that the bosses do a suicide rush or kill themselves instead of you actually finishing them off.
I also like where the characters cooperated in different sequences, like in the final battle against dark zangetsu. That looked super cool.
The "suicide rush" was originally from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.
It’s created by Igarashi so yeah it’s exactly castlevania with out Konami to ruin everything.
Man that Last Boss Battle totally Remind me of Dawn of Sorrow Julius Mode They even have the Archetype of the Belmont, Belnade, Alucard.
Quick couple of questions: do you get a special bonus if you do not get hit by the last attempt suicide rush from the boss?...& do you get penalized for getting hit by the last attempt suicide rush? Thanks in advance.

Now THIS is a proper spiritual successor to Castlevania, and by a former producer of Castlevania games, nonetheless! Koji Igarashi does know what he is doing.
Those suicide attacks from the bosses are truly cool, flashy, and properly dangerous for the unprepared. And that "True Final Boss", where the three characters team up to defeat... priceless. Cherry of the cake: that image ala-megaman in the end with the futuristic city... way to promise a sequel, Koji!

Even though, none of it is Canon to Bloodstained Ritual of the night, but still fun and good nonetheless
Ritual of the Night and Curse of the Moon are both good games for people who like Metroidvanias, the Classic Castlevania games, or both.

13:18 holy sh*T the retro version is 10 times harder than in ritual of the night lmao. 21:00 this boss fight is amazing, utilizing 3 different characters at once now that’s some genius game design

That last boss moment where all 3 characters did their thing all at once is very cool.
Also dayum didnt expect Inti Creates there, i've always loved them ever since Megaman Zero and Gunvolt, i hope their next project will do well.

Old man only appeared on final battle(and by accident in a switcheroo) . Poor old man.
I like how it realy point back to the real old school games like shovel knight did. While still keeping the gameplay smooth so it can compete with modern looking games.
Of all the good things in this game, the boss battles were the crowning achievement. They felt so good to fight and satisfying to beat, especially with those Rondo of Blood style last-ditch moves.

The final battle having everyone help each other out to survive us really cool looking. It didn't look particularly difficult, but the concept and execution was super well done.

They did. Desperation attacks. One final enraged assault to take the hero down with them. The best one has got to be Bathin. SPLAT!
Reminds me of Sting Chameleon from Mega Man X
In Castlevania Rondo of blood bosses did the exact same thing at death, they commit suicide, or do one final move before death

The desperation attack, probably inspired by Castlevania Dracula X and Rondo of Blood (as well as Dracula X chronicles but that's a Rondo of Blood Remake)

Since it looks like you don't know, Zangetsu has an extra ability in Ultimate mode, he can charge his slash to do a giant slash. Just press and hold the attack button and he will start glowing.

Maybe I'm just having a millennial moment, but I find this game way better than its sequel. This type of game always works best in full 2D.
Great little game, amazing boss designs, maybe some of them are missing some attack "warnings" but you can tell they put a lot attention to details. this is like if they put Megaman bosses in a Castlevania game, love it.

0:01 vs 21:12 - I love the detail that the song played while fighting corrupted Zangetsu is a variation of the beginning theme playing on Zangetsu’s motive.

Valac is a fucking awesome design for a boss, an interconnected dragon that could shove it's heads together to make one giant head is so fucking cool.
I figured out a hidden combo attack. Throw the spinning scythe and then freeze it when it is touching the boss using the alchemist and it deals A TON of damage against the bosses

I'm only watching this after completing Ultimate mode myself. I wanted to come up with my own original strategies for fighting bosses, so it's fun to see someone who did something COMPLETELY different than what I did, but both methods still worked.
Valefor via Stage 3's Boss, is my favorite Boss in the entire game.
Can we give props to how awesome the sprite work is? Thos game looks pretty awesome, has an awesome ost and those bosses! I really love Valefor & Valac!
This is just a little add on, but it's creative and stylistic enough to stand on it's own. That's damn impressive. By the way it's the gold man boss that made me say this.

The older Castlevania games always had this nice Ravenloft feel to them.
Slifer the sky dragon being the only boss that doesn't have a "desperate final attack" makes it special

Why do you rarely use the Vampire character? He basically deals large damage because it's a shotgun, so you can beat bosses pretty easily. And despite he can turn into a bat, you can escape dangers easily, but nooo, you mostly use the whip girl or Zangetzu instead

How so? It looks like Zangetsu is reborn in the far future, most likely because the demons have returned once more. Is this his chance for redemption? Can't wait to find out in CotM 2
love how the last boss is a mix of the grim reaper and prototype universe, hmm maybe carnage from marvel, but seems more like alexs style from prototype, forgot the second games guys name lol tho zangetsu is a good choice, since it was I believe the name of odins sword in final fantasy, which could equal or surpass sephiroths masamune, even in real life I think the sword masamune is a good legend tho I think it was the smiths name, but yea matches grim reapers touch, instant cut/death. idk if zangetsu is a actual legend I have never checked im guessing very famous, if it is a actual legend.

mrHowlll Based on what I heard. Ultimate Mode allows you to use the powers gained from killing your allies (God damn Zangestu) while still being able to recruit them.
