The design of a few bosses reminds me of the cartoon 'Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors' because the combination of a living organism and a vehicle looks a bit like it. And the drum solo during the beginning of the boss 'The Iron Meat' sounds almost like the one from the Terminator movies.

If you want to be technical about it: The head not bobbing up and down during running implies the highest possible efficiency in preservation of forwards momentum so it is perfect form. If you want to be realistic about it: Yes but it's a Contra reference so it's silly on purpose :)
