The funny thing about the Shadows of Yharnam, earlier in development, they were tied to Mergo’s Wetnurse in a more direct way.
As the Wetnurse internal ID is called “LesserDemonDeathAndDarkness” and the SoY are called “DarknessBrigade” so, they originally were minions of the Wetnurse when that boss had a different purpose in the story.
A lot of the original versions(4 different versions of the script I believe) of the story can be found through data mining. A lot of it is in Japanese, but you can still get a good idea of what the game was about at different stages of development.
As for the Witch’s Abode, that area at one point used to be the starting area of the game. You would travel from there to Yharnam and that’s why the city is so prominent in the horizon as you leave the house. It’s designed around being the focal point of your journey to Yharnam. That whole house, from the outside looks far larger than what it is on the inside because much of it was just cut down to a single boss room. In an earlier build, that’s where you were supposed to fight Vicar Amelia and her name at that time was Saint Laura. I think at that time, The Moon Presence was named “Ebrietas” and the Ebrietas we know was named “Kos”.
So yeah, this game went through so many changes throughout its 8 year development, it’s actually a miracle It came out so good in the end.

Where are you getting the 8 years of development from?

    • @LovelessDogg1

@@CrimeFighterFrog Dark Souls came out in 2011, Development started when From officially began working on the DLC for Dark Souls 1. Project Beast was announced in 2013-14.
The recent remaster for DS1 is using an old build that has data that dates back before 2008 also still has data for the beta map to Upper Cathedral Ward in it. There’s no texture, but it’s completely there in its entirety and has a few differences that aren’t present in the final build.
8 years is a just an estimate.

    • @CrimeFighterFrog
      @CrimeFighterFrog ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@LovelessDogg1 I think it's more likely that the geometry and layout for upper cathedral ward was re-used from scrapped Dark Souls or even Demons Souls content.

    • @LovelessDogg1
      @LovelessDogg1 ปีที่แล้ว

@@CrimeFighterFrog that could be true, but somehow I don’t believe that’s the case here. Typically when From reused an asset, it gets changed drastically to match an esthetic. Such as the original Map for Castle Cainhurst comes from DS3. It’s the reason why parts of it kinda looks like a library, because it’s just built off an earlier version of the Grand Archives.
In the case of the beta map for Upper Cathedral Ward found in DS1’s map files, it’s a near exact map. The only real difference is there’s an extra room with a staircase on the left side of the building and there’s elevator that used to lead down to the path toward the Yahar’Gul Church. In fact in the final game of you stand on the bridge leading to the Ward lantern and look towards the area where you fight Celestial Emissary, you can still see the same elevator in the distance model. From never updated the map to match the final.

I believe that the intense anguish Gehrman feels while the Orphan is alive is part of the curse Kos put on everyone related to the Fishing Hamlet incident. Gehrman definitely would go to the Hunter's Nightmare when he dies, but the Hunter's Dream keeps that from happening. So either the Kos curse forces him to feel eternal regret and restlessness as long as the orphan lives *OR* he can somehow sense that the orphan still lingers and that fact brings the regret and restlessness onto him.
    Tl;dr
The Gehrman/Orphan ties are either part of the curse or he just really really regrets the Hamlet stuff. I doubt there's anything deeper like them being the same being or something whack

I personally believe that the lake of mud version of the moon presence is instead a prematurely born Old One. To me it seems like a baby that was never fully completed and born prematurely or born with a defect. So to me it feels less like an alpha or beta version, and more like a version you would fight if you didnt collect all umbilical cords. Leaving it malformed and grotesque looking.

In my opinion this eternal battle with trying to explain overlapping maps is ridiculous. We need to accept that some things have nothing to do with lore. Overthinking something this simple just makes you see things that aren't really there.
I'm almost certain that without Earthen Peaks elevator no one would care about this. Most people see DS2 as somewhat inferior to rest so they want to prove BB doesnt have that same layout flaw.

As far as Gherman and the Orphan goes - Orphan is the unborn child of a Great One who washed ashore. We know the atrocities Byrgenworth scholars committed in the village; experimenting on Kos as the only tangible Great One they had access to. I always understood that the Hunters caught word and killed Kos and the hamlet citizens to prevent Byrgenworth from gaining any more knowledge.
The lumenflower laid on the grave close to the second lamp that looks down on the Orphan arena. It’s theorized Maria put the flower there in remorse, as she threw her weapon down the well, disgusted with what she and Gherman had done.
The doll’s dialogue about Gherman sleeping soundly once you destroy Nightmare Orphan would indicate the hamlet is his Nightmare. The Research Hall is Maria’s. Maria, delirious in her grief, only alive in her nightmare, Gherman misses her greatly and creates a doll in her likeness. Only it never feels right, as it says in some item description I can’t remember off hand.
Similarities in the cries, death animation, appearance would support this theory, still. How would one know what an unborn child, dead in the womb of its mother looks like? He didn’t, so he must have conjured the image in his subconscious to look something like him. Using the placenta as a weapon. A realization of his guilt and disgust.
That’s just my lore. I’m sure there are other theories, that’s the one that makes the most sense to me.

Such as when you encounter them in the nightmare, you come up from behind them as they're also walking towards where queen Yharnam is. If they were defending her, do you not think they would be up ahead and waiting? I'm not sure.
They Definitely seem to me to be some kind of paranormal force, although how they could get infected with that snake plague I have no idea

It is implied and theorized that Gehrman is tied to the Orphan of Kos in the sense that he and Lady Maria may have been at the site of Kos's death and may very well had a hand in her death and even caused the massacre in the fishing hamlet back when they were both hunters for the Church. A hint that implies this can be seen in the trailer for the Old Hunters DLC and shows a person that looks exactly like Gehrman walking through the hamlet. Another hint to this can be heard in the curse that the hamlet npc places on the hunters and their successors and Lady Maria saying a variation of this same curse in a somber voice almost as if she is feeling guilty for her part in the Church's activities and accepting it. This would explain her appearance just before the fishing hamlet and in the Hunter's Nightmare in general as she is cursed by the Old Ones to be stuck there and as a form of atonement is seemingly safeguarding the secret of her involvement in the massacre of the hamlet and death of Kos. In fact, through out the DLC, Simon warns you about the secret that is hidden in this nightmare and is implying that the Church had a hand in the death of an Old One, Kos.

I dont think that the Moon presence is Paleblood. The man in the weelchair in the beginning says "ah yes paleblood...well you've come to the right place". I mean how the hell does he know about the Moon presence? Also the word "Paleblood" in the note that says "The nameless moon presence beckoned by Laurence and his associates. Paleblood" could be a signature from the one who wrote it. (Maybe one of the hunters before us?) I think that the hunter player is/has the Paleblood. An outsider who didn't have the Yharnam blood, therefore we dont get corrupted by it like other hunters/the Yharnam population. Like Djura and Eileen the crow, who also were hunters without turning into beasts, like Father Gasgoine for example. However none of them did consume three umbilical cords and chose to be decapitated by Gherman in the end. Hence all the gravestones in the hunters dream. I also read a comment on Reddit that stated that Laurence left that note in Iosefkas clinic for Iosefka, and we are the Paleblood they needed to transcend the hunt. That's my interpretation :)

    Graves in the Witches Abode?
I am not sure how to start this one, but I do know that Hemwick Charnel Lane leads to a Charnel House. The knowledge I am sharing was discussed by JSF so all credit goes to him for this knowledge.
A charnel house, put simply, keeps dead bodies. All of Hemwick appears to be centered around an industry of processing or disposing of dead bodies in Yharnam. We know that Yharnam was overflowing with death as there are caskets lining the streets. So it is no surprise that there would be so many graves in Hemwick and leading up to the Witches Abode. The Witches Abode itself is the charnel house of Hemwich, thus there is a large presence of bodies and graves there. Now why would the witch of Hemwick be attracted to the charnel house?
Well, as we can see, the witches are very interested in collecting eyes, which they use to cast their spells as well as cover themselves in, perhaps to increase their magic. This can also connect to the idea of more eyes = more power that originates from Byrgenwerth, but that is a discussion for another time. Seeing that Hemwick was in charge of processing dead bodies, it would be very easy for the witch of Hemwich to pick eyes off of the bodies that she could, in turn, use for her magic.
That is my simplified explanation for the graves and bodies in Hemwick Charnel Lane. If you would like to learn more, I recommend watching JSF's video Bloodborne Up Close that focuses on Hemwick, as he explains many more interesting facts about Hemwick Charnel Lane. Hope this helps!

And I think the doll says that Gehrman is relieved not because there is any connection between those two, but because of Maria. Maria is the one guarding the fishing hamlet, the place where the orfan of kos is. When The orfan of kos is dead, Maria could finally rest in peace, which made Gehrman glad, because he some feelings for her. Also, I think Gehrman and Maria killed Kos in the past, but, because the rules of death are different for humans and the Great Ones, Kos or her son (It doesn't matter because there are both Great Ones) imprisoned Maria in the nightmare, together with all the terrible things she had done so far ( the research hall) , and Gehrman could do nothing about it but to live in the dream created by other Great One.

The "missing Scholars and missing Amygdalas inn Yahar'Gul" topic refers to the possible positions that these groups had in the network test/beta version of the game. It is believed that we would have an aditional laser shooting Amygdala in Yahar'Gul that was actually cut for the final game. And reggarding the "Mad Ones in Yharnam", this one is about three Mad Ones you can find in the path that leads to Henwick Charnel Lane after NG+3 (maybe +2). One of them spawn in the end of a cave, the other in the woods near these shootgun dudes. The last one spawns right before the Henwick Charnel Lane's front gate.

For the make contact gesture I feel the switching of the hands is quite important, as the gesture is incomplete without it. I personally believe it signifies a switching of realms, or planes of existence, as the great ones are known to inhabit multiple or other planes. When the hands are switched, it is symbolic of our efforts to commune with the great ones.
As for paleblood, it's been used other times too, such as in yahargul, at any stage of the moon cycle. So it may mean something other than the moon presence, but who knows for sure.

The math idea for make contact is completely wrong. The proof is all around you. You cant make buildings as simple as a basic house, let alone a cathedral without knowledge of right angles.
The best guess is that it is sign language that tells the great old ones you know how the process of being raised to the next step of evolution works. You start as one thing, then become something greater, which becomes something lesser on the other side that you become greater than on your way back.
Think of it like child age brackets for sports. In the 5-8 year old bracket, 8 years is the biggest fish in the pond. Graduating to 9 years old makes you the smallest fish in the new pond of 9-12 year olds, but we'll beyond the 5-8 year old bracket you came from.

What do you personally think it is? I always thought it was the moon presence or white blood cells.

I pretty much said that in my last video, but had pretty much everybody correcting me on it. I think we're in the minority haha. It could be a whole lot of things tbh.

I think that orphan of Kos is possibly could be Gerhman son, Kos is a "female" like great one so Gerhman could think she is a mermaid or something.
Or the orphan and Gerhman are linked is because Gerhman was the one who cut Kos uterus to let the church study.
