-35° COLDEST NIGHT ALONE IN A FROZEN TENT

- The extreme cold is back and it's breaking stuff. My snowmobile won't start, my tent is coated in ice, and everything is steamed up. It's dangerous in these conditions, but it's also beautiful if you are prepared and have a place to stay warm.
My off-grid tent can be extremely hot in extremely cold weather. I have a big wood stove that pumps out the heat. Even when it's -35 out there, I can be very toasty. It's an amazing place, and I hope you enjoy the extreme ups and downs in this video. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
Jay next time you go to the tent remember to remove the battery from the snow mobile and store it the tent and up off the floor too keep it warm and connected to you power cell. Extreme cold is the number one killer of a battery.
I beg to differ. My ex wife was the number one killer of automotive batteries.
OK then, well why did pouring boiling water over the battery start the machine?
Or carry a portable battery booster.
@@Marcos-Oscathe battery is weak, and 7th grade science should have taught you that you don't store batteries in the cold as it shortens their life. He will need to change that battery out at any rate. If he cannot cannot remove the battery easily, it would be better to have a separate that he can drive through to keep the snowmobile protected and somewhat warm in this extreme cold.
Hot water bottle for the battery. 😉
Love the tent videos. I was freezing just watching you. I don't think I could do it. At my stage of life (75 years old) camping for me is sleeping with the windows open under an electric blanket. great video! Can't wait for the next one.
I was cold too. But liked looking at the fries and steak. 😊mmmm
75 not that old. Set a goal of going camping. If you can't make it happen no big deal. But your not too old to do this. You don't need to chop wood and live on the land. Just camp
Did a lot of camping, fishing, and hunting in my younger life. Just no longer has the appeal. Like I said, my idea of roughing it these days is sleeping with the window open.@@KenKaniff-dw4jw
Yes indeed LOL.
I feel every frigid degree watching your video. Currently -47C wind chill in Sask. It was -57C a couple of nights ago. I, too, vote for taking the battery inside the tent. Stay warm, fellow warrior!
Minus 57? I cannot imagine it so cold. It's - 8 just now where I am in England. And that's cold. Nobody could survive - 57 outside could they? Hope there are no animals outside in that temperature either. But I suppose there will be.
@@Carolyn272 You're right. I tried stepping outside to clear a little snow from my front steps. I was completely bundled up and within 30 seconds my hands, in leather sherpa mitts, were beginning to freeze. Mission abandoned. What a stupid idea!
Wtf might as well make your home inside a deep freezer at that point😮
@@georgeide2337 Isn't that a fact!
Sure. Looks very cold for winter.❤.
That sound of the snow squeaking gives me shivers and horrible memories of growing up in -40 temps in Nfld, Montana, Minnesota, Northern Ontario.
And when the snow is squeaking you know it's REALLY cold, lol.
That’s why I’m in Florida, came here from Chicago and will
Never live again the warm state!!!😅
Since when does the temperature get anywhere near -40 in Newfoundland?
@@swilhelm3180 - since i lived in Gander back in the early 70s
@@dp4491 As if it ever gets to -40c there. That's funny. The Atlantic and Gulf Stream warm that region. And Gander is not at a high elevation. Nice try. And snow starts to squeak around -15 to -20. Eyelashes stick a bit at around -25.
Hey Jay, love the videos as always!! The reason why the pot wobbles when its put on the stove after getting snow is because of the metal contracting when cooling down to -30 getting the snow. When added with the metal expanding due to rapid heating as its sitting on the stove, the cold walls and warm bottom of the pot fight against each other making the metal warp ever so slightly. This is why you don't see this is thick bottomed pots like cast iron and more prevalent with thin pots!
Those little lithium battery jump start boxes are lifesavers. I carry one in every vehicle.
Thare are several factors here: 1) the bottom of the pot is warped, allowing it to rock. 2) The snow is bursting into steam, creating a force. 3) The pot rocks, creating a cycle of bursts. 4) As the snow melts, it creates water, a viscious mass damper to the rocking and steam generation. Either that or just freakin' magic!
Omg
I think you are the only person in the world that does extreme cold with a calm and funny demeanour. Keep it up Jay and never stop being a class act.
Love your videos.
Camping with Steve also has his fair share
Outdoor boys is good too
Jay, ever considered getting a small utility tent to park the snowmobile in with a propane heater? If not try keeping the battery in the tent overnight.
They need perhaps other trees in thses wildernesses .
@@Cazgirl-hq4hiwhat? “Other trees” what do you mean?
Propane liquid is pretty useless at -26
@@user-xh5ei4vl8gReally 😑. It wouldn’t get that cold inside of a heated tent.
Jay, it probably wouldn’t hurt to have a small Noco battery booster, for times like that. Glad you got it running. You had my mouth watering with that bacon and cheez whiz. Great video 👍
There’s heated battery covers that work like electric blankets that are electrically powered you could plug it in to your power pack battery in the tent, I think it’s much easier than working in below -30 degree weather removing the battery, having two layers of canvas on your tent so you have even a small air gap between the two helps immensely with keeping the heat in and insulated and a Big Hello to your Mom for me and was just a miscommunication

The glee when the boiled water on the battery worked: that just made my morning brighter! Thanks for sharing your adventures, Jay. I love your channel.
This is a wonderful show of support.
That is the most anyone has ever contributed towards the channel. Thanks so much, moxywoman. Sincerely, Jay

Your video production quality is crazy awesome! That could be a whole series of videos: showing the set up process of all the cameras, capturing, editing, etc. I can't imagine just how much time and effort it takes for a 25 minute video, especially in frigid conditions. Well Done. 👍
I love videos like this where the people actually talk 👍
OK, I am being a bit verbose today, but I have to make another comment. I have been watching your videos for some time. I watched early videos when you were so tentative about what would or wouldn't work and how to do things. Now, you are the "old pro." Watching you work your way through your snowmobile issue was amazing. You were calm and collected with a plan 'A', plan 'B' and so on down the line. I had no doubt that you were going to ride it out of there (but I'd still get the battery checked). I did a lot of camping when I was younger on family vacations and as a boy scout, and your videos bring back many fond memories.
the temperature difference can create uneven expansion and contraction of the metal, leading to the pan vibrating or making noise as it adjusts to the heat. This phenomenon is known as "thermal shock," and it's similar to the effect you might observe when a hot glass is suddenly exposed to cold water
Awesome. Thanks so much.
No problemo :) love the videos bud, keep up the great work. Was also thinking one of those stove top “movie style” popcorn poppers that have the handle you turn on them would be cool for the cabin or tent
Guys,
YaH The Heavenly FATHER (Genesis 1) HIMSELF was Who they Crucified/Pierced for our sins and “HERE IS THE PROOF”
From the Ancient Semitic:
"Yad He Vav He" is what Moshe (Moses) wrote, when Moses asked YaH His Name (Exodus 3)
Ancient Semitic Direct Translation
Yad - "Behold The Hand"
He - "Behold the Breath"
Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
Yep-That what it is👌
Try a battery tender for when the machine is sitting, it will keep your battery working and warm. Great for off season storage also! Dave

This camera work makes me genuinely feel like I’m on the journey with you. Thanks for another video, Jay! Finally got a good snow this year where I live, thrilled!!
Maybe I've been out of the loop for a while with Snowmobiles, but I'm surprised that Ski-Doo doesn't have a pull start. This very situation is why they used those pull starts when my dad worked for them in Wausau in the late 90's.
I absolutely love watching your channel from the warmth of my home Jay, but your leisure choice is beyond my comprehension. I can't think of anything worse than being in that kind of cold. Bravo, you obviously love it 😆
Jay I’m surprised that a manufacturer hasn’t reached out to you to try a cold weather sleeping bag. Great video stay warm.
Thank you Jay, loving these winter video's. 😊💫
I love the peaceful Canadian Wilderness. Another great video Jay. Thanks for sharing.
Likewise. Summer or Winter. Canoe or Ski Sled. CANADA💪🌲
Nice to see the cold snap. Your cold snap you are experiencing hit us overnight in Texas. I am near Austin. 18 degrees! Not normal for my area. Ice on the ground and my new Jeep is iced up. Stay warm my friend!
Awesome video, as always, sir! Thanks so much for sharing! Just spent Saturday night out in -26°f here in Minnesota in my hot tent! So much fun!
Great video! Love the French fries & steak! Excellent drone footage too!! 😊
Stay warm! We're also feeling the effects of polar vortex in Southern Alberta (similar temperatures to NWT).
Jay love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you in the tent.
Jay.... it's about damn time you got the extreme cold! We know you absolutely love it! The colder the better. Great viewing to see how you need to survive out there. Love it. 🙏👌
So glad you didn't have to walk my friend. I'm always amazed at just how clear the night skies are there. Beautiful and striking.
Jay you need a wood stove fan. It sits on top of stove blows heat onto cold corners! It would be perfect in your tent!
Jay, a quick disconnect for the battery to bring it inside, will make a world of difference. Use the lightest full, not semi-synthetic in the Rotax engine allowed by the mfg. You will have no problems ever, starting your sled.
I'm not a Rotax guy but I worked with Honda back in the 80's doing cold weather testing in the -35 to -40F range when they first came out with their line of snowblowers that wouldn't turn over in the cold . I agree with you 100% about the motor oil . Oil that turns to tar in the cold will cause any engine to stiffen up .
Hey Jay. Have you given thought to adding a camping fan suspended from the ceiling to help disperse the heat back downwards?
I love your enthusiasm and spirit. Been a fan for some time. Thank you!
I love your videos. Glad to see you finally got the cold weather you love this year.
Jay so cool to watch your videos the outdoors and fresh air is very intoxicating. That steak looks great with those fries man im hungry.
Jay have you thought of getting flooring? I saw interlocking foam floor tile at Canadian Tire. I would think that would help insulate and provide a tad warmer floor. Awesome video as always!
Jay, I really enjoy your videos. You do a fine job. Thank you.
From Ontario here, I'm really extremely envious that you get to enjoy the NWT. I hope you don't take that place for granted! Great video!
Incredible filming quality, appreciate the night sky too.
Thanks for another great video! Might want to try making a little carport or covered area to park the snowmobile while you are out there, it might help with getting protecting it from the cold and getting it started the next day.
Great video Jay, your cinematography is getting so good over the last 3 years I’ve been watching. Your angles, camera placement, drone footage, and lighting. Bravo…
Enjoyed watching you work the problem, and find the solution to getting the snow machine running.
Look forward to the next video, your content makes our Mondays a little better!
You are one tough dude! I enjoy watching you brave the cold.
live on Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario. Winter Cold to me is the ‘SQUEEK’ under the boots when we walk in extremely cold weather. I love watching you because you do the cold and I get to watch from the warmth of the house. Keep up the great videos. At the beginning of the video when you were talking about leaving the snow on for insulation, I was like “NO”. The heat will make the snow melt and turn to ice. 🙁.
I visited there every year as a child. Such a beautiful place. I want to go back asap
Thought the same. Lol- Sweet setup tho
I hope you all have experienced ice camping because it truly is amazing and exhausting in all the right ways, I was watching you pick up the fire wood and remembering the difficulty working in a snowsuit bighting into your shoulders just so you can reach a few more inches. Ah good times. Thank you for reminding me of the good old times.
I love the look of your string lights. Very nice touch.
These are my favorite episodes, Jay.
Watching from the comfort of my cozy ol' four-poster with the thick, heated Merino wool mattress pad.
Got these Tabby brothers up here for backup, too.
Its bitter cold & snowy just outside my bedroom window, too.
Thanks for your efforts putting these together, much appreciated - take care...
Your Awesome!!!!! Love your positive energy towards freezing temperatures. Stay Safe, Healthy & Warm❤
There must be some days in your life when you just relax..you don't have to run to your work place...you don't have anxiety for the next busy day...❤❤❤❤
Hey Jay! Love the tent videos!! Way more than the cabin videos. The tent is so cozy!
I couldn't help but smile with relief as well once the snow mobile started! Great video, suspenseful 😂
Jay, may want to try hanging a battery operated fan from the top of your tent. Having it run on low or very slow, will push the warm air downward. Lot of warm air just hanging out up top. You'll save wood as well.
I've just recently discovered your videos and I'm completely hooked! I'm so impressed with your knowledge of the outdoors and your survival skills. Your videos are so relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for putting this content on You Tube. You're a conqueror of the wild!😊❤⚡❄⛈🌨☃🕯
you crack me up!!! Glad you got the machine running
Nice Steak, Nice battery cheat, Nice Video & Thank GOD for a Nice Wood Heater !! Thanks Jay 😊 ...Alan in 🇨🇱
Electric start motors in very cold temperatures can be quite problematic. There is something to be said for the old pull start engines. They can usually be started in the coldest of temperatures with a little know how.
Very nice video! We humans feel more alive in these conditions then in boring ordinary houses
Nice! You have a snowmobile, pick-up truck, and live in a tent... the life! 🤗
I adore hearing you say how thankful and happy you are that it is so cold 😂 when thats more often than not a frequent complaint many have. You are a great reminder that its all about attitude, its all about how you choose to take what this planet has to offer. Life is what you make it 😂 Thank you for always being positive even when things arent always ideal.
Great video as always .... last winter I experienced some battery issues with my quad in -35 windchill ... because the design of the machine leaves the battery slightly exposed under the front end ... I was able to get it started, but had to boost the machine / heat it up with a tent heater underneath. I now have a battery tender for nights like that, and I cover my machine. Maybe covering the machine at night would help? But yes - get that battery checked for its strength. Looking forward to the next one! I head to my off-grid camp on Friday this week.
This is just beautiful.Extreme cold weather and cosy warm tent with nice food,
Loved the hot water trick!, wife and I always look forward to your videos.
It was -8 this morning in the Mitten State. I work a small amount outside but do have warm clothing for all occasion. Love your videos and the knowledge that i gain from them.🇺🇸🐻
I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago, and I have been obsessed. I've watched a ton of back catalog videos, but my favorite have been this tent. My boyfriend gives me crap because I get lost in your channel for hours. The most adventure I do is a camping trip each year in June. But you make me want to go find some land, set up a tent and start camping in the snow. Thank you for talking in your videos a little about what your doing, but not over talking. You have the perfect balance. I get so excited when I see you have posted a new video. Keep on keeping on, Jay. Stay warm up there.
A good tip to prevent the starting issues in the future is to store the battery in the tent overnight. It will make the battery last much longer. But never charge the battery inside the tent when the fire is burning. 👍
Hi Jay it's good to see you on this very cold 🥶 day you love this weather be careful and keep warm god bless
Lol stumbled on your vid after 8 days -40 here in Fort McMurray. The hot water battery fix was amazing! You learn something every day. Thanks
One thing we usually do in the winter is reverse our ceiling fans to push the warm air that's risen to the ceiling out and down the walls to circulate the warm air back towards the floor. See that shot of the floor being freezing, I wonder if you get a small battery powered fan up near the ceiling and have it blow upwards if it will circulate the warm air back around the walls and down the floor. Just a thought. :) Keep up the great videos. Really look forward to each new one on Mondays :)
Nothing like a Jay video to start my week !!! Stay safe brother 🙏
Hey “Brave the Cold” camper….your food looked delicious! Glad you had a good time, as I did watching in my warm, cozy home!!
Great video as always, crazy ending, I completely understand about testing your self.
Keep em coming
Great video Jay, have you considered a stove fan, to circulate the heat ? 👍👍🙏
Thanks for the adventure as always! Just back from moosejaw where the wind chills hit minus 54 Celsius. Kids from California and Boston were up for an indoor football tournament . I can imagine their shock experiencing these temps!
Thank you again for what you do, your videos are the best!
For the first time since I've been watching, I can actually see and feel how cold it is. We're finally going to get a shot of cold air this weekend in New Hampshire
hi dear Jay, you have a great shelter, it’s secure and once your stove warms up fully you’re comfy and warm, God be with you in your loneliness, in that extreme cold environment
That's not a tent, that's a shed hidden by a tent.
What an adventure at the end! Another great episode!
Love the stars scene. Really brought back memories when I was on Fraser Island in Australia. Made me remember the time I would sit and stare in the sky and see the stars multiply right before me. Thanks for that
Love your videos. I live in Iowa, and yesterday morning, it was -15, and with windshield, it' felt like -42. My car wouldn't start.
Great video man , the cold breathes new life into you doesn’t it ? I was out on the weekend and it was cold, not as cold as you had but cold for here . Keep up the great videos
so beautiful... the stars were amazing... and the background music was just perfect... it was a beautiful feeling.. very adventurous.. enjoyed watching thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you
Loved it Jay, thank you and keep em' cumin......from Australia 👍
Mad respect for these videos.
Great ending. Worth the whole show. Be good. Be safe.
1:28 use moving Pads/blankets over night works like a charm on top of it. The engine will stay warm an start way easier 😜
Thanks for another excellent video Jay. And thank's for showing us what snowmobile not to buy. I've been snowmobiling my entire life and have had many new ones.and never seen one you had to plug in the cold
Any battery won't work well in the extreme cold
Ohhh man...Jay, that was a close one! Love the videos....you are living your best life! Enjoy
Down here in North Dakota it was the coldest place in the states yesterday with a feels like of minus 70. Not much better today. Love my wood stove in winters like this. I usually spray the front window of my stove once or twice a season with glass cleaner. I kind of like seeing the fire and getting that mesmerized stare going on. Your food looked amazing!
When I saw the temperatures dropping the other day, i knew you'd get out there. Thanks for the video Jay.
Love your videos of the frozen north!
Hi Jay, great video. You should get one of those canvas wood carriers. I find it much butter on you back than trying to carry a pile in your arms. They are pretty cheap. Makes things so much easier. Steak and chips looked amazing. Well done.
First time I watched ,you’re insane! Pure entertainment. Thanks so much!
Jay! Thanks for another great video. I think that a voda heat stove fan would be an awesome addition for your stove. We use one hunting with ours and they are great.
Great job Jay!
Great video Jay glad you got your machine running. 🙂🇨🇦⛺👍
i just love these posts Jay incredible weather we still have no snow minus 2 here but crisp and sunny . my daughter tells me they had snow yesterday ,but they live up in the north ive watched all your posts but never seen the inside frozen like that as i sit here with a hot coffee planning what to do today have a great week
OK, you got my blood up waiting to see if you were going to have to walk. Living in northern Maine, USA, I have had to replace many a battery in my time. Fortunately, they are not that expensive, so I just started putting them in my monthly budget automatically. Oh, the things one has to do to enjoy the winter. But I love every minute of it. Thanks for another great video. Stay warm.
What a deal! I was starting to worry.
Glad you are on your way home.
Heyy Jay,wow it's all frozen so beautiful, glad you got snow mobile to start, stay safe stay warm
Cool video, first time watcher, man it's like we're with ya thru the cold, I was rooting for ya on that snowmachines battery.
You Are doing awesome ,Jay Legere!
That was kick ass! You TH-camrs shoot killer camera angles and do great editing.🤘
