As someone who has been a subscriber from the early beginning, I can agree the wall tent videos are the core of your channel. This channel has that "je ne sais quoi" surrounding it. The extreme temperatures, the snow, the woodstoves for heat, the fresh cooked meals. The all around survival. It's amazing to see how far you've grown. Not only as a channel, but in experience and expertise in these environments. As the channel matured, the addition of the RBM tents and the cabin have a been a welcome sight, as it allows us to see more of what made this channel what it is today. Even your spring and summer travels to the wall tent are fantastic. Keep on doing what you're doing Jay. I think I speak for most of the fans and subscribers that we'll continue to watch and look forward to new videos.
I would’ve left the shower curtains until you had something of a replacement. Those are much better than nothing to fight the cold with the upper windows
I as an outdoor enthusiast and cook must say,"When you get down to cooking you put your ankle in it!" But you might want to carry homemade things like frozen cubes of chicken stock, liquid smoke, whole spices w/grinder and eggs cracked into an old stainless steel bottle. Saves space and makes food even more delicious.
I lived in the Bush outside Fairbanks, Ak. My generator lived inside with me, if it was not running. Every Bush Dweller I know had at least three generators.

Aah … Jay, you brought the music back. I love that song and it’s so fitting for your outdoor adventures. I will never get tired of hearing it in the beginning and end of your videos. I Love watching every one of your videos, especially the ones of your tent cabin. Thanks for sharing all aspects of your outings with us.
HI Jay, enjoyed how you survive in the really cold. I have a off grid cabin north of Williams, AZ, 45 miles south of the Grand Canyon. It gets to single digits,F°& 60 mph+ winds at times. So what your sharing, I've been there also, just not as cold weather that you have . Be safe & warm.🤠
I lived in AZ back 2007 in mesa first winter there we got 1/4 of snow. Superstitions we're white capped and it's was nice looking out the windows and seeing it
I LOVE the videos in the new cabin and I can’t wait until you completely make it your own and it’s a comfortable, cozy, warm, inviting place for you and your guests and us viewers!!
About the propane run the main burner just gas, let the air purge out of the lines before you try lighting the pilots that’s a big must on pilot stoves had one in my basement, Continued Success and All The Best Fabrizio
At 11:25 reminds me of being a kid and watching the snowfall but feeling like you’re flying through space and the snow is like a star you’re passing. Keep up the great vids Jay! Also I always enjoy what you cook while out in the woods😂.
Jay this is my third winter with you and your videos. Being a woman I would love to see the cabin become more homey and finished. I think watching the process would be fun. Yes, I love the walled tent but the cabin is fun to watch as well.
@@jaylegere suggestion, improve heating, on wall behind, to side of wood stove, get some 30 inch by 48 inchwide CORRUGATED galv steel, like used on roofs, with the corrugation running the 4 foot direction, then space panel 3/4 inch off wall, holding about 1 1/2 inches of floor...and attach. The Steel as the stove heats it, will create a natural draw off floor, sending warm air up...creating an efficient natural circulation and staple some mylar to your ceiling, that will help dramatically, help with cooling in summer too
Jay, I too am one of the very early subs. It's been great enjoyment watching the progression of your skills!! I think we as early subs will always have a fondness for the tent, however, as one who has built, remodeled, renovated 10 houses (with my wife of 29 years) and we are just now finishing our 11th - an old pole barn with a lean to and made it a house - i am looking forward to watching how the renovation of your cabin unfolds. Yes, of course, I still look forward to the tents but I am excited for you and your girlfriend and how this cabin project will develop. As always I so enjoyed this video!! Bridge
@@jaylegere You're gonna do great!!! Enjoy yourselves and enjoy the journey!! Be able to adapt and adjust when you hit a little bump. I can't tell you how many times we have had to do that with remodeling and new construction as well.. like when you open walls and don't expect to see rotten studs... LoL we learned a ton over the years and I believe you will as well!! In fact I'm guessing this won't be your last... 🤣🤣🤣 God bless, Jay!!! It's been a very enjoyable ride!!!!
I have that same Honda generator. I've had it for years. I was told to invest in ethanol free gas if its going to be stored for longer periods. Any gasoline, at least in the US, that gets stored for lawnmowers or generators will varnish in just 3-5 months. So I bought the right gas, and I always have a can of starting fluid in storage. That stuff will have it fired in no time. .
Just a small suggestion. When frying potatoes, the stove doesn’t get the grease hot enough and the potatoes really soak it up. I recommend a portable propane camp stove. It heats the oil faster and more evenly so the potatoes are crisp and not overly greasy. Unless, of course, you prefer them over the stove.
I like all 3. The bear tent, the cabin, and the main tent. I just like when the videos are longer like this one, 45 minutes, compared to shorter ones like 20 minutes.
Hahah wow, weird. This showed up on my suggestions and i was like i recognize that place. You bought it off my dad and his girlfriend shirley. I built that little temporary generator box lol. Ive spent quite a few nights out there
LOVE your videos!! Regarding the generator -- motors need 3 things: fuel, air, and spark. Use only ethanol-free (ie, "rec") gas, check your air intake and filter, and change your spark plugs every year...even if you don't think you need to.
Wow. This was almost a manifestation. On your last video, I asked about your cabin and look what we have here! The time you put into editing and creating such amazing content does not go unappreciated. Stay safe and warm (ish) this winter season Jay. From Georgia
I'd like to know how feasible it is to either replace that particle board siding with logs, or put up a log exterior affixed to the boards for structural support. That cabin just looks like a powerful winter wind would knock it right over, and not only would the log reinforcement help, it might add an extra layer of insulation against the cold.
Hi Jay - my wife and I just recently discovered your channel, and we really enjoy it. We are in the early phases of planning our next adventure in life, moving toward a more self-sufficient, somewhat off-grid life. What we love about your channel is the feeling of remoteness and survival blended with coziness. We love to camp, and my wife loves to "make do" with whatever gear/food we have available at the time. That's what we enjoy about your experiences...you are too remote to just run to the store to get something, so you have to plan, bring what you need, and do with what you have. Whether that be in a tent, a cabin, or something else, doesn't matter to us...we just enjoy watching your process!
Cabin will a fun project…a nice garage for your snow mobile and stuff when you start the remodel,a close area for all the fire wood, also an area to enter before you are in the cabin
Enjoyed the vid Jay -- hadn't seen your cabin yet. Solid, enjoyable wkend trip cept for the oven not fitting yet. Congratz on the bread! Hard to pick a fav part of what you do here but it may be getting away from civilization to just enjoy yourself in all the ways you do. Great project with your girl to make the cabin your own bit by bit. 👌✨
I've got a Honda Eu2000i. When I saw you going to fire yours up I told the wife "That thing isn't going to start". Mine is the exact same way...as soon as the temp goes below zero, its a pain to get going! Needs a primer bulb for sure. I think the canvas tent videos will always be our favorite, but any time you're out in the cold chopping wood, cooking greasy food and relaxing, its going to be entertaining. The effort you put into filming and editing and the eye you have for it is what really sets your videos apart I think.
I'd put a carport on the side for wood tools and vehicle cover to work under and maybe a loft before the large job of going out front with those roof angles. Nice cabin.
I always enjoy going along with you. It breaks up the day for me. I’m 76 and I love living through all the channels I watch. I’ve saw and learned so much. So thank you Jay, it’s been fun….🙋🏻♀️🩵🙏
I just found your channel recently, but it is great.... very entertaining ... I also do some camping in the Canadian woods in Ontario. I don't have electricity but I do have an old wood stove that was converted to use heating oil (diesel). I love the old thing and I use kerosene lamps. I am a 79 yr. old woman who camps alone but only in the summer. This old place that I inherited from my deceased husband & his family is a lot of maintenance & I am reaching the point where I can't do everything I would love to do with it. So I am just going to enjoy what remains of my time with it the way it is. I drive up every summer from Iowa and there is nowhere else I would rather be. Thanks for giving me a taste of what it would be like in the winter. The big chore for the summer of 2024 will be the repair of the outhouse....not what I am looking forward to but it is definitely necessary. Happy Camping !
Another enjoyable video. I sit in my warm, cozy den (in north Georgia USA) and still shiver when your thermometer reads -5˚F. Your meals are always simple, yet tasty. Making homemade bread in the wood stove worked better than I could imagine. Hopefully, you can get the wood stove oven to fit. Good luck with all the renovations you have planned. It's a work in progress that will be fun to follow. Safe travels on the snow and ice.
Jay I'm good with were ever you are like you said you have a life outside TH-cam. That's why I love Iike your video's you bring me along for what's going on in your life. You do you and I'll keep watching your video's. I even think it's great that the kids can come out with you as well as your gf. Merry Christmas cheers
Top stuff Jay. Looks like Jays Bakery is a winner. Bread looked amazing. I am sure you will have the stove up and running with a few collars on your next trip. All the best from 🇦🇺about to head out to my cabin in the bush for a while, but it’s not -20 over here. More like+ 25c. And hotter. I have the same generator and in the summer it wouldn’t start once, found a wasp had made its home up the exhaust. Bit of a poke about with a long screw driver sorted it. But it did take ages to find it, even after I stripped the carby down etc. like both you locations, so a mix of each is good.
Awesome video, as usual, Jay. As a long time Honda EU2000 and EU2200 generator owner you’re in for a wild ride if you’re using ethanol fuel. The jets clog easily when using ethanol. Do your best to not use ethanol fuel. If you must use it, the only remedy is to have the tools on hand to quickly clean the carb when needed. It’s not difficult but is annoying.
As a small engine mechanic, I have to agree. But all grades of fuel in Canada have ethanol in them. Premium has the least. I recommend to all my customers to run premium, whether it's a snowmobile or a snowblower, you'll run into the least amount of carburetor issues.
You could put it into a carboy and let the alcohol separate out using about one cup of water per gallon. Or you can get a device that has a valve at the bottom called an ethinator. You still have to add water and shake it to make the gas and ethanol hit what's called phase separation. But after that you have pure gas
I'm in Minnesota, so far no snow and that's got me bummed out. Looks like you live in a winter postcard. I'm always so interested in what people make for food in these kind of videos. The bread looks great. I have a craisin bread recipe for my bread machine that could work for you. It's basically a raisin bread recipe with dried cranberries instead of raisins. Makes great toast. I've never camped out in a hot tent before your tents are always interesting on the platform.
The tent shack is where it all started and that is like the home of the channel in my eyes but the cabin is the beginning of a new chapter and definitely can't wait to see what you do with the place hopefully you can spend time between both locations and we will enjoy every video you put out Thank you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Beautiful area and looks like a lake to do some fishing. The cabin will be great in summer too. Really high ceilings. Looks like there's a loft? Food looked really good.
Hello! You should try a stove with cold air intake, now you burning the little hot air it produces. It should speed up the heating time. Love from Sweden🤗
Jay you are one of the most down to earth people I have watched on u tube. I have been here long time watching you and you truly do have a passion for doing the hard times in the cold and being positive while you do it. Such a pleasure to watch your videos. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the cabin to put your mark on it and majestic it one of your places to share adventures with us.
It might be a good idea to bring the propane tank inside just before you leave the cabin to head back home, this way ice won’t have a chance to build up agsin. Definitely the cabin for me
Jay, you never cease to amaze me! I love your cooking skills. Another couple minutes, and that bread probably would have had a little more color too it. I’m sure it was delicious. Love the cabin. Can’t wait to see your lady friend come put her touch on the cabin. Look forward to the next video, very exciting! I’m sure that the next time you visit the cabin the stove pipe will be be ready to except the oven. That is one beautiful addition to the stove. Still trying to figure out how to contact you! When the grandkids come over Christmas, I’ll have a lesson (Ha Ha Ha)! Keep up the Great work, and be SAFE!!!😮
Try a french press for your coffee, its an extra step but you can use some really good coffee and as much as we all like our coffeel believe you would enjoy it
Another fantastic video Jay! I thoroughly enjoy all of your content. The cabin tent will always be a favorite for most viewers because it where this channel started. But change is always nice to. As always I'm looking forward to the next video. Cheers
I was surprised when you said how versatile the filleting knives are. I just bought one for use in my kitchen for the same reason. And as for the building projects, remember it's not just you, the boss has a say too.
Jay thank you so much for sharing your journey. I love both the wall tent and the cabin videos. I am more interested in seeing what possibilities you will create at the cabin but the wall tent delivers serenity with the beautiful views. You are a hard working man. Merry Christmas Jay!
Hi Jay, as i get older comfort drives me more then anything. The wall tent is the corner stone of your videos but i have to say seeing you progress into the cabin and what it will become is interesting also. Thanks as always for the great content!
Nice video Jay you forgot to add all the cooking segments still think some mushrooms with steak are great loved the improvised shepards pie looking forward to the next one
In my head I was thinking "that bread is gonna burn" and then Jay pulls out a really good looking loaf. I really like seeing you experiment out there with camp cooking. For a first time loaf cooked in a wood stove, it looked perfect. I can't wait to see if you catch and cook anything through the ice.
Glad you took down the shower curtains I think painting outside trim on cabinets black and putting up a fish net on the ceiling and a throw rug would be nice and cheap for now.cant wait to see your guys personal touches and builds😮.
Jay, thanks for yet another amazing video and sharing your journey. We have much in common including having built a similar trapping cabin with a friend and many a great times there. Be it your tent camp, this cabin, the delicious meals, the northern lights or that sweet new Expedition you’re running, keep it up! I’m sure you’ll have that place transformed to your liking more every trip. Solar panel, trickle charger and a battery bank is likely in the plans for ease of use and readiness upon arrival. Merry Christmas and cheers!
Jay is one of the few TH-cam people who makes a proper fire. So many of these so called bush, wilderness, backwoods, cabin youtubers put the big logs on top and just make a bunch of smoke and gunk up their pipes. And then usually blame the wood for not burning good, lol.

I love watching any type of adventure you do but, my favorite is at your new cabin and am really looking forward to your renovations, etc, etc.
I like both, this cabin an the hot tent ⛺️ but really wanna see what you can do with this cabin build, fish, hunt explore it all there!
Love your videos and enjoy watching them every time they come on Jay. May the lord bless and protect you at the cabin
Jay, I’m loving the new cabin and I’m interested to see what you do with it.
Love the cabin videos. Looking forward to seeing the renovations.
Hello from Montana, I say the same thing about where you are. Hope to some day visit it.
Jay thank you so much for sharing your journey. I love both the wall tent and the cabin videos. I am more interested in seeing what possibilities you will create at the cabin but the wall tent delivers serenity with the beautiful views. You are a hard working man. Merry Christmas Jay!
Merry Christmas from Norway. 🎄🎄🌹✨️👍
Merry Christmas from NWT Canada
Hi Jay, as i get older comfort drives me more then anything. The wall tent is the corner stone of your videos but i have to say seeing you progress into the cabin and what it will become is interesting also. Thanks as always for the great content!
Nice video Jay you forgot to add all the cooking segments still think some mushrooms with steak are great loved the improvised shepards pie looking forward to the next one
always good to have some lock-deicer or methionyl handy for frozen propane stuff
Hi Jay to keep your cabin worm you need ceiling need wood cladding and fill form. I like your channel I would change stove pipe and fet owan.
First time watching so glad you get the opportunity to get away from it all to spend weekend at the cottage nothing like it to energise you.
I’m really enjoying the cabin videos. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Nice place pal 👍 I'll bet it gets better with time , keep up the good show 👍
This is my 2nd time. Good stuff. I’m thinking you also like cooking.
I have a German shepherd he’s awesome love your dog
Jay is one of the few TH-cam people who makes a proper fire. So many of these so called bush, wilderness, backwoods, cabin youtubers put the big logs on top and just make a bunch of smoke and gunk up their pipes. And then usually blame the wood for not burning good, lol.
Yes, as a 50-year wood burning person I agree.
It will be great to have a screened-in porch big enough to have naps or sleep in. Tks from Montreal.
wow another great trip TY
For me I love your cabin journey 😊
