Birth, School, Metallica, Death era was Metallica at their best. IMO. The only thing missing was James taking a drink of beer from a plastic cup and spitting it over the audience.
James's throat sounds very tour weary and strained. Especially on the "Exit light....etc" parts. Compare with the performance at the MTV awards just over a year earlier, very noticeable change with a lack of grit in his voice. I mean I'm not surprised tbh, the amount of shows they were playing as well as the length of them in support of the Black album was intense. As well as the drinking and probably not taking care of his voice. Certainly got that side of things sorted nowadays tho! The whole band is just delivering killer live shows that feel like they are somehow getting better and better as they get older.
