The most useful review I've come across which solved the dilemma I've been trying work through. Have gone to several stores in Melbourne but none had both sets available for comparison at the same time. Either stocked only one brand and not the other, or if ranged both, they ran out of one. Extremely glad to have come across your work.

Such a great video. I know this is an older video but I just had to give thanks. This was so well done and in a way that the normal avg user could relate to. We live in a time when demo rooms at local shops are a thing of the past so for you to do a video like this, it's invaluable. Well done. I've been leaning heavily towards the Polk but I rarely if ever listen to any material at that high of volume and the Polk, to my ears, didn't sound as clear and detailed as the Klipsch did at normal listening. For Movies and TV viewing I would choose the Klipsch every time. For music at high volumes though, I would lean towards Polk. Thanks again.

Klipch sounded like they were in a box, Polk were more open. You can really hear the mid-range is much better on the Polk. Bass was much better on the Polk.

I wanted to express my appreciation for your fantastic review and comparison of the speakers. The way you blended objective data with your subjective insights was impressive, and the idea of listening to the speakers side by side with a high-quality headset was brilliant. Your channel has gained a new fan, and I look forward to your future content.
However, I'm still undecided between these speakers. Currently, I have the Klipsch RP 504C paired with some older AAADS (American Acoustic Design) and Jamos for Surrounds, all powered by my Yamaha 3080 Advantage.
After re-watching your episode in my media room, I have to say that your synopsis was spot-on. The Klipsch speakers were lively and engaging at a lower volume, but at reference level, the tweeter sounded a bit tinny. On the other hand, the Polk speakers lacked energy at lower volumes and came across as a bit flat, but at reference level, they sounded superb. The bass had punch, and the tweeter was clear and gentle on the ears.

Thank you very much👌 if you like the klipsch sound then the Polk is not for you and the other way around is true also, if you feel the klipsch is to shouty then the klipsch is not for you and you will like the polk.

I own various models of Klipsch and Polk (not the models featured here unfortunately) and I agree with everything you said about volume. Polks sound incredible when cranked whereas Klipsch start to introduce sibilance at high volume. I do really like my Klipsch at regular listening volumes though but will say Polks are much more "all arounders".

Agree with you about liking both for different reasons. The brightness of the Klipsch is too much, over time. I prefer the Polk because of the balance and neutrality of the Polk. Thanks for letting us hear the difference. So many reviews never play a sample.

wow this is amazing, when I heard the Polks first and then heard the Klipsch, I preferred the Polks, and the Klipsch sounded clashy. But when you played the Klipsch first and then the Polks, I preferred the Klipsch because the Polks sounded muted. Obviously I would have to hear them in person. I did one time go into a store and compared the R200 to Polk ES15 and I just loved the Polk R200 over anything else they had

Just closing my eye and listing to both I can honestly say the Polk sounds better to me. Klipsch is too bright. I currently own an older gen1 Klipsch RP towers (6.5") and surrounds. It sounds nice but it is fatiguing at the higher volumes I like to listen at. I'm in the process of replacing a set of speakers at a time (as budget permits) with the Polk Reserve series. I'm going with the R600 instead. I have plenty of low end with dual 18" subs. Will also be going with the R400, R900 and already bought the R100's for surrounds. Your video confirmed I made the correct choice on speakers for me.

I'm looking forward to hear the side by side while running on a dedicated power amp. The Polk should sound good at lower levels when paired with a stronger amp. So far I'm leaning Klipsch, I didn't experience fatigue at all with these Series II.

Wonderful video! I loved the comparison between the two beasts. For my taste, I'd stick with the Klipsch, especially because at a lower volume you could still hear the details between the tweeter and mid/low, but with the Polks at low volume they sounded a bit flat to me. However, at a higher volume the Polks probably edge the Klipsch but not by much. I really agree with you that the Polk have a bit more controlled tweeter. Thank you so much for posting this video, it was both enjoyable and educational.

I just got someR700 on sale. The important things to note:
I recommend a STOUT real world 200wpc+ separate amp for optimal performance. They scale up.
They are all-day listenable, horns are not.
They will go toe to toe with towers costing significantly more.
My 8000fII are in my HT now, too intense for all day 2 channel listening. YMMV.

I did prefer the Klipsch at the lower level because the strings were just organic and that sound of the guitar pick strumming is what I like... the extra detail I just really like. Thanks for the compare.. and I think at the higher level it might be too loud maybe due to the extra efficiency maybe ? Another thing, we dont all have houses far from our neighbors, I just cannot use the extra bass and need to keep the bass dialed back a little where I live. So kind of depends on the individual needs.

I don't believe this is an equal comparison. The Klipsch don't just seem louder, they are louder. They are a more sensitive speaker and need less power to get them to the same volume as the Polks. So here the Klipsch actually are playing louder than the Polks, which of course affects their tonal characteristics. The true test would be to use an SPL meter to find the volume settings on the receiver that would bring both speakers to the same decibel level. Then you have something.

    • @homecinemaking397

Typical cass of boosted treble on the Klipsch, makes low level volume listening seem more detailed. Had the R700, they were fantastic. I just had to pump a shitload of power into them to maximize what they could do, and maximize they did. Huge difference with way more power. I’ve always felt Klipsch sound good but are just too harsh and was worried they would damage my hearing to where I’d always need them to compensate for the hearing loss they caused. I sold my Klipsch in my 20’s and have stayed on the warmer side with a little roll off. I feel it’s like TV’s, initially your gut impulse is the brighter one is best, but it is often is the worst picture overall and can be improved and made more accurate by turning the brightness down in favor of accuracy.

Klipsch for me all day long for me by your comparison. The polks do come more alive at higher volumes but I still prefer the Klipsch, but barely. (Polks have always had more punchy bass and in this comparison it's no different). My Klipsch KLF-20s though will beat both, but they are more at a level with Klipsch RF-7s, but are 3 way like Klipsch heritage stuff, and have a much more pronounced midrange. Your comparison just proves, for me, why I love Klipsch so much. They just sound more "alive" than other speakers. It is not for everybody though. They are definitely an in your face speaker. They are not laid back. And at higher volumes that can bother some people.

They can bother a LOT of people, you should mean. I had to get rid of my Klipsch for that reason. For low-level listening, yes - Klipsch is great and probably the best at this price for that purpose, but for movies and loud music - NO... just no. Headache and ear fatigue galore which are not present from the Polk Reserve even when pushed outside normal listening volume.

@@Japan_Changed_My_Life Yup. Had 7 (yes seven) of the highest-end Klipsch floorstanding speakers for all my speakers and a center I can't remember the name. After a few months, I realized that these speakers were literally hurting my ears when listening to them. After a few years I moved to another country and was forced to buy new speakers and could not be more happy. Got the Reserves all around, though not all R700's (R700, R900, R200). I actually went to a store this time before purchasing and right away was blown away by how much better they sounded TO ME. It's all subjective, but man, it's hard to understand how people love the "shreekiness" (call it what you want - bright, "alive", whatever) of the Klipsch's. Anyway. My two cents.

The RP8000's appear to be quite a bit more sensitive than the R700's
    ( could explain why the RP8000's where much louder at the ' 0db " ' reference '" drive level than the R700's ) !!??!!
    I love loud :
( But being considerate to my neighbours I don't frequently play anywhere near ' reference level ' ) 😊
    I use a ASHLY MOSFET power amp ' FDX-2001 '
( this is a BEAST of an AMP able to deliver the juice into just about any load ( 8 120w power MOSFETs in each channel) and a PSU to match )
( Maybe the Polk L800's might be a better match )?
Sounds awesome even at low level ..
But It's not pretty ( hence not on display) .
How: assuming I could find a supplier brave enough to let me,
Would love to try ALL of these coupled to this Amp 😊

    @hocktooey ปีที่แล้ว +6

Wow, the Klipsch, in this video at least, sound cleaner in the highs--more detail and texture. I'd like to hear the shootout with a saxophone/piano duo.
The Polks, however, while warmer overall--to the point of sounding a bit veiled in those same high frequencies--present a much fuller body to the music. The bass near the end of your sample track is articulate and more engaging through the Polks, while muddy and ill defined through the Klipsch.
I am living with R500s (with dual Def Tech subs) and have found the Polk tweeter to be unlike other speakers I've heard. On the one hand, I can play any type of music and enjoy the sound. The speakers present a balanced and pleasant sound. I don't get tired of listening to music with my current set up. The Polks are a big part of that, I think.
However, I've noticed over seven months I've lived with the R500s that the high frequency response is somewhat tame. I don't hear as much surface noise from my Lps, there is no air around solo instruments, and presence of instruments seems restrained--and what I mean by that is, say, Mark Knopfler's guitar and vocals on a track like "You and Your Friend" don't sound like he is live in my room; it sounds like a well-recorded and beautiful song. And I remember being blown away by just how live this recording sounded on my old system in another room. And that is consistent across many of my favorite recordings. The sound is good--and as I said, well balanced--and not fatiguing, but it is not as exciting as other high-end speakers can be.
I get better sound, the timbre and tone of instruments and vocals, by toeing these speakers in more than I have with other speakers. Toe-in helps with the upper mids too. But I do lose a bit of soundstage. Do you notice that?
Anyway, I just wanted to share a description of my experience with the Polk Pinnacle Ring Tweeter. Maybe others have a different opinion.
Thanks for the shootout and your continuing exploration of the Polk Reference line--what stands out in comparison between the R600 and R700, is it mostly bass?

At the lower volume the polk seemed closed in

A bit yes but only because the klipsch is so much more at low volume.

I prefer the polk im not a fan of the entry Focal. Another subscriber commented he replaced his focal with the R700 and is very happy.

I think it has just become a way of life in the "audiophile" community to hate on anything Klipsch does---theay are to bright etc blah blah blah. Even through my crappy Logitech computer speaker the separation on the guitar and the clarity simply go to the Klipsch. It's not even close. $ for $ Klipsch is the best value to sound in the game.

The Klipsch sounded better but I wish they had the bass of the Polks.
