    I always preferred the higher sensitive horn loaded speakers over soft dome tweeters speakers especially for theater use. I have blown or degraded many dome tweeters in my day which is another reason I prefer horns which seem to last forever and can take whatever I throw at them.

      Me too, thats why I love my two SVS PB2000 subs. They hit super low, seems the lower the bass note, the louder they are. But in reality they just have a super flat frequency response where alot of others boost the bass around 45hz and fall on their fact below 30hz. I had infinity 12 inch subs before and the svs slams frequenies that the infinity cpuldnt even play. When I threw a 20hz tone at the infinity it would barely move, but the svs flexed so hard it looked like it was about to jump out of the box! I still bang DJ Magic Mike, DJ Fury etc.

  • @sandlmv8301
    @sandlmv8301 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To be fair, I imagine a giant like Klipsch will put more money into their development of floor standers. When it comes to subwoofers, svs of preferably Ryhtmik is where it's at. I'll be getting some rp8000's most likely with the svs pb1000, but would go the Ryhtmik sub if it were readily available at a fair price in Australia. My preference is for music over home theatre. For home theatre, the svs towers might edge out the Klipsch in a full surround setup. Cheers.

    If you were like me and running the speakers with a subwoofer and using them for movies 95% of the time, would that have then leaned you more for the SVS's? I used to own some BIC venturi 2-ways with a 1" and 8" woofer and the midrange was really lacking in movies.

    • @SpecOfTech

      Hey Blue. No even with a subwoofer and for movies, I would still slightly prefer the Klipsch here, but that is personal preference. These speakers are very close IMO.

  • @shaneducholke364
    @shaneducholke364 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Since SVS is primarily known as a subwoofer company, I am guessing they are trying to match their speakers to their deep, deep subs and therefore focused on mid bass over deep bass which will complement each other well.
    I have not heard either speaker, but that philosophy would make sense.

    • @shaneducholke364
      @shaneducholke364 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @red_array not sure what review that was but I would avoid any of his other review. The Prime pinnacle can dig fairly deep for a tower but with a low of 29 Hz, that's the same as a $100 sub and while it will give you the full range of mid bass, you have absolutely no chance at hearing any actual low base. Most current action movies regularly get down to 20-22hz and some scenes will go well below 20hz. Svs is a subwoofer company that expanded into the speaker market and there is zero chance they will ever make a tower that will teach 20-22 hz that is passive. They may decide to add an act if sub within a tower to drop that low, but even then, I don't think they could manage that in that size of a speaker. Most towers with active subs can maybe get to 27 hz, a pair of Polk P2000s ithinkngotnto 28 hz but if I turned my main subs off, you lost all sorts of impact with the action seems and sounded very unexpired

    • @shaneducholke364
      @shaneducholke364 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @red_array small room music you could probably get away with it, especially depending on the genre, classic rock for example rarely gets below 35 hz with the kick bass and bass guitar. Sometimes subs don't work well in small rooms (like a bedroom turned into a listening room, because the base reflection interferes with everything else. There are pure audiophiles that won't add a sub woofer as because they say it takes away form what the mix artist intended those this group usually has $50-$100k speakers.
      For all listening rooms, I see the SVS towers that dig to 29hz as quite beneficial as you can escape the potential issues by adding a sub.
      I mistakenly thought you were talking about a theater room scenario. Svs speakers are highly under rated asost think they are a sub company bat only sells speakers toake more money but not their expertise

    Awesome comparison review, Barrett. I love the way that you compared the different sound aspects of each of the speakers against each other. I think that is very helpful for people considering various options at similar price points. Reviews of speakers on their own often tend to portray all mid-range and high end speakers as great so more novice buyers have a hard time knowing what to choose. • @robertct06

      That only really matters when the volume of your speakers are exceeding the capability of the watts being received. (So If it sounds blown out). If you’re in a small room it’s easier but a bigger room might need more volume and that’s when an amp is required

    😊 hear my thoughts this video is now 2 years of age and so is review I had obtained for two pair of the Klipsch RP 8000 V2.. and I like them very very much they sit in a very large room 48 ft long 32 ft wide width 12 foot ceilings.. and having two pair of these it fills the room wonderfully with epic sound levels. The base response is not all that authoritative as to what I am used to when listening to prog rock from the 1970s and hammering hard Rock such as😊 or let's say even listening to Pink Floyd which I consider Rock not prog rock.
    I am absolutely itching to get my hands on two pair of the SVS prime pinnacles to compare the two manufacturers in models available. I'm extraordinarily familiar with the clip sound and I do love it very much.. and I've talked with so many about the SVS prime pinnacles that they tell me the prime pinnacles beat out the Klipsch bass response by a good measure when it comes to authoritative bass responses so eventually I will own both the clips and the SBS together and have an Eevee switcher in my home in order to choose which set to listen to at a time to drive both of both of these different speakers I am using the email 11 channel power amplifier Bas x.. as well as the pioneer LX 505 DVR and I still do not see the need for subwoofers it's very pleasantly satisfying to me when listening to let's say Rush hemispheres or farewell 2 Kings as well as King crimson stuff which is absolutely epic.. listening to the live material is something I enjoy so both work very well with that including orchestral music movie film scores and related music when it comes to acoustic such as let's say Michael hedges or will Ackerman or Alex de grassi things that nature it really does bring out the shine in both of these models of speakers I want to keep both I will be keeping both just because.. I feel very clearly that SVS and clips are the best possible choices for speakers and within this other models in manufacturers seem to pale in comparison and I still don't understand to this day what happened to the 12 and 15 inch bass drivers that was so prevalent in speakers from the 1970s and the 1980 they should be making speakers floor standing which have 12 to 15 inch or larger.. give the people their freedom of choice just don't take away the larger drivers because these companies seem to want to sell subwoofers separately to make a larger profit margin only that's why they separated these large drivers from speaker cabinets it's the only reason why I can think this way,
    So please enjoy what you have or what you can afford or what is available to you and what your budget allows.. if your patient you will find the speaker brands at a better price than you do at present I hope this comment helps it is nov. 2023

There is definitely a mid range void with these speakers and the tweeter is ear piercingly high. I looked at the GR Research website and I have to say Danny Richie was spot on with analysis. Did the cross over upgrade correct these problems for you and how much did it change the listening experience for you. Either I change the cross overs in these speakers or they are going straight on to eBay. Love to hear your thoughts.

    One thing that might add a bit extra value to your reviews is to mention the song(s) or movies that helped you notice a particular strength or weakness on the speaker, especially when comparing the two speakers (like the written internet reviews do). For example, "on ___ song from ____, I noticed that the Klipsch had better bass while the SVS..." That would give us a reference point to listen to that song and see which kind of sound we would prefer for our speaker choice.

      Yeah, I will have to try and remember to work that in especially for the side by side reviews. Hey man, hoping to get some thoughts on what to do in my situation here. I have a dedicated HT room (12x19) and I am looking to get a 133" diagonal 2:35:1 screen. But that leaves me with only 9.5 inches on either side of the screen.
    So my options are to either reduce the size of the screen to 125" (not ideal IMO) or to get a narrower set of FR speakers.
    Originally I wanted to get the SvS Pinnacles but now I am wondering if I get 2 SVS PB3000's as planned do I even need these tower speakers? I could simply pick the SVS ultra bookshelf speakers for Front and Right and be good right? Will I miss not having the towers if I go this route? Appreciate any feedback and thoughts on what to do here..Also any feedback on bookshelf stands would be great.
    PS - I'll be be getting the Ultra center, Satellite and Elevation Speakers as well for my 7.2.4 setup. JVC NX7 projector.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching man, I appreciate it. Great choice on the PJ my friend, the NX7 is a beast. Before I answer your question, have you thought about doing an acoustically transparent screen and then placing the speakers behind the screen? This would allow you to put much bigger (better) speakers behind the screen...just a thought.
      One thing I learned a while ago, is not to "cheap out" on the front soundstage. Not saying that you are cheaping out, but you definitely want to invest a good chunk of the budget into the front speakers. Your front speakers can make or break the experience because the majority of any movie will be played through them.
      That being said, you could get away with bookshelves, but you do have a fairly deep room at 19'. The Ultra bookshelves are a great speaker for sure, but they are still a bookshelf and won't be able to compete with a tower. The bookshelf is also only a 2 way design where the Pinnacles are a 3 way. The Pinnacles 3 6.5" woofers will handle everything from 300hz down. You will most likely be using the THX standard of 80hz to crossover your speakers, or something close to that. Meaning even if using capable subwoofers, the Pinnacles woofers will still be handling everything from 300hz to 80 hz and they will do a MUCH better job than the single 6.5" woofer on the Ultra bookshelves that will handle everything from 2000hz down to 80hz.
      Long story short, IMO you should go with the Pinnacles, you will get a better experience. FYI, the tweeter in the Pinnacles is the exact same tweeter as the one in the Ultra line up. If you do decide to go the SVS route, can I ask you a favor, can you use my links attached in this video? It will not cost you any more, but it helps out the channel, I would greatly appreciate it brother...cheers.

    Derek I wish you could try some Tekton Double Impact speakers at least for the main fornt left and right and give us your thoughts. I built my own bessel array and they are amazing. Part of this is due to their high efficiency and part is due to the radiation dispersion of the 7 tweeters in the center at ear level. I have looked at all the arguments about the comb filtering effect but to my ears I like the dynamics! I made removeable panels so I can pop one design in over another for the tweeters and midrange for testing purposes. I do like the look of the svs and they are very clean sounding which is no surprise since they use mainly peerless drivers.

    At this price point there are better choices from the Revel Performa F35/36, Kef Q series, Wharfedale 12 and Evo series. In house designed and or built drivers rather than off the shelf stuff. Just a lot more research and tech that leads to better overall sound for the price.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I look forward to hearing some of the speakers you listed someday. I also can agree that there very well could be better sounding speakers for the price. BUT, what sounds better to you, may not be the case for everyone. For instance you stated the Revel Performa F35 would sound better, which only has a response down to 55hz +-3db. So for you it may sound better, but for someone looking for a speaker that is closer to full range in the bass department, they may disagree. For perspective the SVS is rated down to 28hz +-3db. The flagship KEF Q950 is rated down to 44hz, so same thing here. Now, don't get me wrong, bass is DEFINITELY not the only metric one should look at, but it is one that could be a determining factor for some, as to what sounds best to THEM.
      The Ultra towers also have a rich midrange and really do quite well with music. I can't honestly say which of the speakers I would prefer out of the ones you listed or the SVS Ultras, because I have not heard them all. The only way I could say for sure is to hear them in my space. I could tell you right now, that if they have a weak low end, I would not care for them much. For that price, I would expect a fairly well rounded speaker, that can also get low. I appreciate your suggestions and comment though, I do plan on checking out some of those speakers in the future.

      Tomorrow I am swapping my 17 year old Def Tech Mythos Fives for RP-8000Fs. They still perform awesomely for theater, but having gotten into music now in retirement, I can hear their limitations. I hate to part with them, but someone (with a sub!) will get ANOTHER 17 years or more out of them, for sure.

    What camera are you using to film? It looks nice and crispy. What's the logo on the hat? I've seen it in other videos. Outside of that...
    I want to hear a nice set of SVS at some point. I was looking to purchase the SVS Ultra before i determined that in-walls work better for my room. I have SVS PB-2000s...and oh baby! SVS and Klipsch both are awesome. I'm a sucker for Klipsch and I've been a fan as long as I can remember.

      Hey dude, I am using the Panasonic G7 for filming, it is a fantastic 4K shooter on the more budget side of things. That is an Alpinestars logo, I used to ride motorcycle, so I love this hat, it's my fav lol. Funny story, some guy commented on my video the other day, "take of the stupid hate, other than that, great video" lmao. It was actually kind of funny.
      I am loving both brands right now, they both have something great to offer. I can't wait to experience more speakers and brands that are new to me. Your inwalls are great man, I have heard good things about the Klipsch THX speakers.

    Nice review.. But.. The gloss back/Piano finish... To me in my opinion looks nice but... in a system that may also run a home theater ( which I run..)... Is simply too reflective . The reflection off the side and front of the box...coupled with the room lighting, screen reflection etc... is distracting! I like the matte finish for a AVR setting.. If its only for Audio... then that matters little! Just an opinion.. nothing more.. nothing less...

Do you think 20k will get me a nice system with speakers, subs and amps and recievers? My basement is wired for 7 in ceiling speakers and 2 subs. Also my basement is pretty big like 48×36. I see all these guys with McIntosh amps and recievers and im like are those really necessary there has to be something comparable for half the price. I heard the la scalas and thought damn those are nice but there not versatile. Like you cant watch movies with the la scalas there pretty much to me just really for jazz music. I do like loud systems but i also want clarity and it to sound crisp and balanced.. any recommendations please..
