  • Folks, I'm home from Ohio. This was an emotional conference for me- I share some cool stuff I learned. We got a lot more of the pieces we need for this project. The bad news, it's about information & access, and you can hear about it yourself.
    I also share some information about Columbus, OH, and the way my experiences in the city helped give me perspective on my kinda gut-punch moment.

    Folks, I got word that the credits slides aren't showing up in this video! I'm so sorry, that's totally unintentional. Next time I'll double check. Tomorrow's Montana outlook has credits for all donors up to this morning, please accept my apologies & lack of credits in this videos.

    Your videos resonate deeply with my neurodivergent brain! You're on the front lines of addressing crucial issues in nature, science, and societal values, which are all at breaking points right now (special interests of mine). Thank you for your dedication to making this information publicly available and accessible!

      @bubblegirl2768 your support & the support of others like you is what's powering this operation- I'm grateful for the chance to do this work!
      And I have to say, it's really interesting the proportion of neurodiverse people who are tuned into this channel. To me, it shows yet another angle of the value of neurodiversity in humans- in times of complex change, unusual perspectives become particularly important.

    Thank you for sharing the highs and lows. It’s so important to get the word out on these anomalies, and those charts-in my opinion-paint such a clear picture of how much more immediately dire climate change is than I even thought 10 years ago.

      @elizabethstrong544 you're welcome & I appreciate this comment. Even in the last 18 months, the seriousness of what we're up against has really come into new focus! Increasing access to the incoming information is important for all of us- the current earth systems signals are not where consensus science thought we would be today.

      @4angayoga these moments with loss of trust are so hard. Right afterward that man from NOAA spoke, I felt such a sense of unreality, I did not know how I would speak. I went outside and walked a while until I could remain in the moment. Feel grateful at these times for my teachers.

      @AmericanResiliency it is much more difficult when we start to realize just how many systems have been captured. It's so disheartening. I think you touched on some interesting points in this. The reality of a lack of leadership in regards to climate from the government. The continued lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation from the majority of professionals. The continued focus on money as a guarantee for future security. We should chat soon as I’ve got some changes in my time availability coming up!

    As a former Buffalonian, the mutual aid during the 2022 blizzard is not surprising. A socialist candidate won the mayoral primary in 2021. And they have a history of these sorts of events, with a culture of coming together (and putting lawn chairs on huge piles of snow, drinking beer, and ordering a pizza). I would suggest analyzing traffic patterns to see to what degree communities are cooperative or competitive when merging into traffic; I find the driving in Buffalo to be shockingly mellow compared to Colorado or California.

    • @AmericanResiliency
      @AmericanResiliency  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @TheMageesa hah I also find traffic patterns to be a strong indicator of community behavior! To me this was a striking good sign when I was poking around Minneapolis- cool to hear that is the case in Buffalo, too!

    It's disappointing to hear about the NOAA official's lack of forthcoming during the event. Not surprising, since they've been continually attacked from the climate denialists for decades. Still... disappointing. Keep up the wonderful work that you're doing. :)

    When you're done with all the 50 states, perhaps you could discuss other countries (Canada and Mexico obviously, but I'm curious about South and Central America too).

    • @AmericanResiliency
      @AmericanResiliency  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @TheMageesa it's all about finding quality information. We are fortunate to have the NCA5 for the US, it's a massively detailed resource for this kind of work.
      I have been able to find quality information for Canada and for the EU (and made overview videos with links to resources for those places), but I haven't yet found the level of detail I want for Mexico or many other countries. There's some sort of good information put out by the World Bank- if I can't find anything better I intend to process that for Mexico this fall, give us something at least.

      @djangowalon the only overview video I have for the EU is this old one: th-cam.com/video/CLNRd8lbfhw/w-d-xo.html
      But I know we have many viewers in the EU, and I would be really happy to make an updated video! You can find the report I used to make this video in the description- if anyone pings me if/when we get a data update, I will get on it.

    I can't take Columbus OH seriously given the state level politics.

    • @AmericanResiliency
      @AmericanResiliency  หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @JEffinger that is a serious factor to consider. I know many people who have suffered a great deal from Ohio's legal frameworks. I figure, though, any city that is trying to put out a welcoming message for those moving for climate, it's not bad to pass it on. Hopefully people will look at more than one resource before they decide where to move!
