We’ve reviewed #RingAlarm in the past, but Ring just released the 2nd generation of their system, so we’re excited to see how it’s improved.

What’s new about #RingAlarm in this updated system? For one, their keypad is easier to use, with the emergency buttons displayed prominently. But customers will still love Ring’s Protect plans, which offer 24/7 professional monitoring, cellular backup, and 60 days of cloud storage for only $10 a month or $100 a year, some of the lowest prices on the market. We installed our Ring Alarm system ourselves, and if we wanted to avoid monthly fees, we could’ve self-monitored solely through the Ring - Always Home app, so Ring is a great choice for those on a budget.

We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

Thank you for the great review. I’m hoping that you can answer a few questions about the system. So I’m looking to use this for a family vacation home, because of that I have a couple of questions. 1- What is the limit for the number of shared access PINs that you can have? 2- what flexibility do you have on temporary PINs (ex. Time frames, etc.) 3- with the batteries in the sensors, are you notified through the app when they get low, or do the sensor just stop working? 4- how many people can have access to ring account on the app, for example can my parents, myself, my spouse, siblings, siblings spouses all have the app on our individual phones to be able to arm and disarm the system? 5- can I manage the system remotely or are there limitations? Thanks again for the great info.

I recently installed this in our home and love it. I also installed Homebridge on a raspberry pi which added HomeKit support to Ring and it works great. Also added a Kwikset 888 keypad deadbolt and it is oddly satisfying to unlock your door with a pin and have it turn your alarm off also

Question: Can you set the system to BYPASS a door when HOME/STAY is active. Say if you wanted to go to the garage or basement for something? On my OLD hard wired system, I was able to bypass a door. Loving all your reviews! We currently have simplisafe gen 1 and don't want the high monthly fees to continue plus the cost of all new components if we upgrade to the new version.
That being said, have you looked into how you can link Alexa guard mode to the ring alarm to provide the glass break sensor capability? I can't tell if it auto alarms or not...
    Thanks for all yall do!!

Security.org doesn't mention Alexa Guard in its comparison review of Ring Alarm or show its effectiveness compared to SimpliSafe's glass break detector. However its pretty simple and more cost-effective than SimpliSafe. . support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028205592-Using-Alexa-Guard-with-Alarm-to-Detect-Broken-Glass-Smoke-and-Carbon-Monoxide

Finally getting rid of ADT. I have a question please . I'm gonna have three different pads in three different floors. I need the pad upstairs not to chirp at all when any sensor is opened or closed.

    Great review, man!
I've been looking for a good home security system that I can purchase as one ecosystem so I don't have to use multiple apps, but I haven't been able to find one yet. Right now I use Kangaroo Security and they are decent and affordable but they don't offer any outdoor cams and if wireless connectivity was lost, I'd be out of luck. I like that Ring offers both battery and cellular backup as well as outdoor cams, but the Ring wireless cams don't seem to be as good as the Eufy cams but Eufy is screwing up right now with their latest firmware update botching everything and causing connection issues. I've seen a couple of reviews of their home security system, but so far I think Ring is better. I still have some research to do, but right now I'm really leaning toward a Ring ecosystem. Thanks again for the review!

Very informative review. Being new at all this i have some questions. Currently I use Google Assistant, I have no experience with Alexa. Will Google Assistant work with this or should I just go with Alexa? Also, with the cameras, can I remotely turn on the cameras on from miles away to watch whats happening at my house? Also, can the window and door monitors be activated and/or deactivated individually or no? And can you have more than one keypad in the house, one at the front door and one at the back door? Lastly, can you get the system at Amazon or should I go to the nearest electronics store? Keep up the good work😀

    • @SecurityDotOrg
      @SecurityDotOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ring Products integrate best with Alexa. Yes you can watch the cameras when you are not at home. You cannot activate and deactivate the window sensors one at a time. You can't have more than 1 keypad. You can get it all on Amazon.

Even for a non computer savvy person like me, and what I like about Ring better than its closest competitors such as Simplisafe and Cove is that Ring is the only one that doesn't charge you extra OR make you buy into the more expensive monitoring plans than they advertise to lure customers in just to get access to your doorbell footage. And with Ring you can expand and add as many extra cameras as you like and nothing changes with price. This is just not true with any other security system. Also with ring You have the option to self monitor if you want but the only reason I was even considering self monitoring was the high cost of many of these companies monitoring plans. Ring's $10 a month plan is a bargain compared to every other company out there and its no contract. So I went with it. I hate contracts that lock you into spending with a company. If a product is good and worth it then you don't need to force your customers into contracts to keep their business . Ok so ring doesn't have a fancy keypad that looks like a computer screen but who cares All that is for is to show everyone you have a security system. They don't have key fobs either but considering that everyone has a cell phone and the system is controlled through your phone, you don't really need an extra key fob to add to your key ring. I almost went with Simplisafe because a neighbor has it and he showed it to me and I was sold on every aspect of Simplisafe except one. Simplisafe offers a $15 a month monitored plan but what they try to hide from people is that in order to get full access to your security system you have to pay $25 a month So that axed Simplisafe and I found out Cove dose the same thing. SO for me, Now that I have the Ring system installed and I did it myself I am happy with it. I did opt for the $10 a month fully monitored plan and they give you a 7 day practice period before the system goes live and I tripped it by accident a few times and was immediately called by Ring to see if everything was OK. Also compared to my friends security system from ADT that he has a 5 year contract with and pays $65 a month for monitoring, it works pretty much the same way the ADT system works. Ring's system also has the chimes that go off even when the system is unarmed so when you are home and a door or window is opened the system sounds through the whole house just like all the big expensive companies offer. So for me, for the money in initial cost, and the optional monthly monitoring, Ring is the best system out there and no one else can touch them.

After this Security.org Ring review and excellent testimonial by Dodge King, I boxed up and returned a Simplisafe package. My new Ring package is installed and I'm most happy with it.

@@unknownperson3691 Thank you Unknown Person. I viewed the video on simplisafe. Do you happen to know if the Ring system can be broken the same way? I have a Ring sign in the front yard and wonder if I'm just advertising my vulnerability.

@@Irwhodunit looks like but it is much harder to do so and I haven’t seen videos as the interference will almost certainly be detected. But it is best practice to not advertise your security system whichever company you go with.

@@unknownperson3691 Hey! Thanks for getting back to me. I paid $48 for a solar-powered Ring light that turns on during nightfall. I think anybody using electronics to break into homes is going to work in a wealthier neighborhood than mine. I live in a prybar area.

Great Job could you please reply and let me know if they have 24 hour customer service so if your system is not working you can talk with someone. How about ordering more parts and adding on to the system in the future can the person do that in the app or do you have to go through RING. Great Job talking tonight.

Hi yes, I'm thinking about ordering the second generation ring system, and I wanted to know can you fix the cameras where they only record when the alarm is set on home mode so you can move around without always having a camera, take a picture of you when you're at home and home mode, please let me know, I'm really thinking about getting this system the second generation, and which is the best camera to get for the inside?.
