Thanks LH for the update! I'm looking to install this system about 1 months from now in my other house. Knowing all these details will help me setup the alarm properly.
The EXACT same situation happened with me and my wife last night, except I was home and the smoke "hit" my old Simplisafe detector and didn't get to the First Alert (Ring) one. So, no call from Ring. But, I was explaining to my wife what would happen if it DID hit the Ring one, and it looks like I was wrong (I also mentioned your community post to her). THANK YOU for posting a video on this! I was unaware of their "flowchart" for a fire. I figured that I would get a call first, and then she would as well. I kind of wish there was an option, like the police one, to call at least 2 numbers first.
Useful review. You also need to add Ring as a Contacts "Favorite" so if you have Do Not Disturb turned on it will come through as long as you've set your settings to pass through Favorites (this is in iOS). Yes, I checked when I put my system in to see if the number is always the same and was informed it is. I've had a couple of alarms that we accidental and I caught right away and was able to verify that the Ring number stored in my Contacts is still the same. Look in your recent calls to get the number as it's obviously not the same as their normal contact number.
Glad you and your family are all safe. Thanks for making this video explaining in detail what happened with your Ring alarm 🚨 setup. I wonder if Ring is looking into adjusting the settings in the app for possible false alarms?
I had a bunch of those first alert/ BRK ones and they kept doing that! I had to replace them all after a few months with nest, not had a problem since.
I use the "Only when I say so" setting because I go hiking a lot, and am frequently out of cell phone range. I also have two pets and a wife, so the risk of false alarms is higher than the risk of an actual active robbery or home invasion that is also not scared of the loud alarm noise.
I have learned a lot from your videos. I started with a Ring Video doorbell a few years ago after someone tried to force entry into my home. Come to find out there had been an attempted home invasion two hours before not far from where I live. They got away there and got away here because neither of us had cameras. It freaked my son out. One second I have my firearm drawn. The next second I was sitting and joking with the police. I was calm. The bad guys ran as soon as they heard the cars coming. My son got to witness a textbook coordination between myself and the police. Then on another day, someone opened packages that had been sent to me. The Ring didn't pick them up because they crouched down. I watched a series on thieves. One showed someone breaking into a home and it took 20 seconds. He broke a window and removed the stick keeping the window from being opened. He jumped in. The reason he didn't go through the doors was because they had deadbolts and steel doors along with reinforced frames. Then I went to see my granddaughter and the other set of grandparents who had purchased Wyze cameras because their oldest daughter had them and she was married to a computer tech. So I ordered them. Here is where your videos came in. My Wyze camera outside was taking anywhere from 4 to 28 seconds to notify me that someone had been near my door but it never caught a photo and the videos didn't show anything. It was like it had been asleep and woke up after the person had left. My Ring only showed their back as they were leaving. The latency was killing me. I had tried everything. It was like it worked when it wanted to. So I started watching your videos and liked what I saw with Eufy. So I ordered a Eufy C2. I then decided to test them. I have the test on my channel. As soon as I walked out the Eufy went off, then the Ring, then the Eufy, then the Eufy again and then Wyze. Needless to say, Eufy topped the others. Eufy watched people driving in and catches them at the top of the stairs coming towards my front door. I am happy with it. Thanks for posting your videos.

Hello. Today I have a false alarm incident with my Ring alarm. It was alarmed supposedly because the front door was open but from my camera it did not show that the door was opened. Any idea of what caused it?
I’m not sure. It might be the sensor lost, have an interference on its signal. I know I had 1 incident before that the app notified me of a signal interference on 1 of the sensors but the system was disarmed then and I’m not sure if that will trigger the alarm if it was armed. I haven’t had that notification since then.

For Some reason for Fire they only call the first contact and if you don't answer the Fire Department goes to your House. They should do it in the same way as the Police Response so the Fire Department won't show up when you start cooking and gets too smoky

I've had Ring a little over a year now and am very happy with it's performance. I have only had 1 false alarm about 6months ago and they called me within 15 seconds after providing my verbal passcode I asked him to hang on a second so I could view my cameras - I was trying to that when Ring then called me. After reviewing my camera feeds I was convinced it was a false alarm from a huge change in lighting from the sun going in and out of the clouds and just happened to reflect off my hard wood floor just right and tripped a motion sensor I have have setup for medium pets (My 18Lb. cat). One time my wife forgot to disarm the alarm and left to go to work. The alarm triggered and my phone was on vibrate but at work I didn't realize Ring tried to call and I was walking around with the phone in my pocket and didn't feel the vibration. Later on I saw the notifications on the phone and saw that the police were called and did shown up but the gate and front door were locked. They ended up leaving. I did call ring and tell them what happened. I wasn't too happy about the police or Ring never tried to get ahold of me again. Also noticed the siren will shut off after a certain time, which is why the police probably left as they didn't hear anything and noticed everything was locked.
The police don't have the resources to babysit every alarm. They show up, if nothing obvious is seen they have to move on to the next call. They simply don't have the time, and thanks to all of the "defund police" crowd that is going to get even worse.
02:42 This is also just like how you should never pull fire alarm pull stations in public buildings unless there's a fire as you'll get charged with a fine from the fire department and some rules say that if you do it repeatedly or once (with getting caught) then you get a penalty fine for doing that with you going to jail Pulling malicious fire alarms in buildings is dangerous for the building population if its a building that has the same occupants every day like a school or apartment because they can gain common sense and not evacuate because it's always a false alarm as if it's real they can die and it also distracts the fire department from responding to other emergencies which is why you should only pull one if there's a fire as they're rare to happen and they don't distract the fire department from responding at all

Now their Ring doorbells are tied into many Police outlets but I am not concerned by this - It's OUTSIDE my home and it it helps them solve a crime then I say OK!
What you & John said both make sense and I gotta say, the best option for now is to use smart plugs with plug-in cameras. This allows you to setup rules to only power these cameras on when your system is armed, or when you turn them on on the fly.
I have an uncommon situation where I can’t have a mobile phone with me at work. As a result, and due to Ring’s policy of calling only the first contact in some cases, I setup a Google Voice number that will automatically forward calls to my mobile, work & home phones at the same time (yes, I still have a landline :p). Only Ring has this Google Voice number. I also have the Ring Monitoring Center’s phone number in my contacts with emergency bypass turned on (as others have suggested doing). All of this helps reduce the chance of missing their call & the setup didn’t cost a thing. How would it have helped in this situation? If I missed the call, my wife or son could have answered the home phone & canceled the alarm.
Just so everyone doesn’t have unrealistic expectations on police response for alarms. When an alarm goes off it is not dispatched as a burglary in progress. It is dispatched as an alarm and is not handled as a priority. If you live in a place where the police are kept busy it might be hours before they are able to come and check in your house.
Depends on where you are and your local rules! I get ONE false alarm per year and pay no fee after that they will charge you for a trip to your house. I called Police and Fire around me and easily answered this question for me as they are well informed of Ring.
Mr. hackster id recommend going by the fire house and letting them know when this happened and asking what shift it was. Then figure out best time to order them a nice dinner or sponsoring a dinner for them if they make their own. ie. give the fire Dept officer on duty a hundred bucks or visa gift card… Just a simple thanks from the community goes a long way, buying a meal goes way farther…
@@LifeHackster Don’t mean to make you feel bad, was just suggesting a way to make others day a little better. False alarms are a daily thing, it’s the business that have the same alarm that goes off at 3 am day after day that creates the bad attitude… ;)
My location charges NO fee for the alarm system BUT you are limited to ONE false alarm per year where I live. You need to check with your local authorities.
Did your wife burn the lumpia again?.... :) I was actually shocked at how smoky it got before she noticed. It would have been much worse if you didn't have a smoke detector. One of our friends walked out of the kitchen for a few seconds and came back to a grease fire. This situation is more common than anyone thinks. My father had a ADT alarm system, somehow pushed the fire alarm button and then went shopping. He came back to find a not so friendly note on the front door from the fire department. These tips are going to save someone from a bill from their city. Thanks again! Please tell your wife I'm kidding! :)
A lot of cities require a permit for a monitored fire alarm. It helps pay for false alarms and also keeps the city aware of how many monitored fire alarms they have active so they know how to plan man power for false alarms.
It might be creepy for you but it is security for my family. There are a lot more stuff that can happen inside your home than outside... bad people’s plan is to get inside your home whether you or your family is at home or not.
Not really! When you are home you can disable said cameras from recording video. But , when you are NOT at home this is a great tool to know what's going on in your home! All available in the settings for each camera you have. Several of my cameras do NOT show a video feed when I am home or in DISARMED modes.
It's not creepy. How can you confirm fire and smoke or burglar cases when not being home? Or even you're in home mode, if the burglar alarm get triggered do you always wanna checking out even with your gun ready? I guess it highly depends. A set of cameras helps you watch and hear all key spots.

What you & John said both make sense and I gotta say, the best option for now is to use smart plugs with plug-in cameras. This allows you to setup rules to only power these cameras on when your system is armed, or when you turn them on on the fly.
I get a false fire alarm about once a year, usually after midnight. I might set up forwarding to the fire department only when we are on vacation.
Ring doesn’t have a visual confirmation?
Can u guys believe that I haven’t been subbed and I watch LHS all the time wow I’m so sorry
I use Google voice for many other accounts so my main number does not circulate on the giant spam call list!
Did you get fined for false alarm ?
Not that I know of...we will see.
Depends on where you are and your local rules! I get ONE false alarm per year and pay no fee after that they will charge you for a trip to your house. I called Police and Fire around me and easily answered this question for me as they are well informed of Ring.
This reminds me, I’ve been meaning to buy a ring smoke detector for a while now. I see the have a gen2, time to buy it, thanks!
You are welcome.
Mr. hackster id recommend going by the fire house and letting them know when this happened and asking what shift it was. Then figure out best time to order them a nice dinner or sponsoring a dinner for them if they make their own. ie. give the fire Dept officer on duty a hundred bucks or visa gift card… Just a simple thanks from the community goes a long way, buying a meal goes way farther…
In the works..called them earlier and my wife and I will be dropping some stuff sometime tomorrow. Thanks.
@@LifeHackster Don’t mean to make you feel bad, was just suggesting a way to make others day a little better. False alarms are a daily thing, it’s the business that have the same alarm that goes off at 3 am day after day that creates the bad attitude… ;)
There was an update today 2022.10.22 that changes it so that you now CAN cancel a false fire alarm ….. from a keypad …. within 30 seconds.
One tbing I don't like is that we can't have the first alert smoke detectors here in tbe UK all you in the US get the great stuff before us
you have to pay for your fire alarm????
It is included in the alarm permit that we have to pay to the city.
a permit for a fire alarm?
A lot of cities require a permit for a monitored fire alarm. It helps pay for false alarms and also keeps the city aware of how many monitored fire alarms they have active so they know how to plan man power for false alarms.
Depends on the city/township you live in. My location does NOT require a fee.
Hey have you have been ?
I’ve been doing good..thanks for asking.
You need a kitchen fume hood
💐💐💐
Man, as a firefighter I hate this. It happens so much… If you knew what we had to go through every time…
Sorry..I wished I could have canceled it if my phone wasn’t in mute.
I mean why do you hate it? Its not like a house is burning everyday, as you say it's mostly false alarms that you get
Lol it’s your job
My 200 pound dog Achilles is the perfect Alarm
You have a camera in your kitchen to record whats going on? Thats creepy dude
