A year ago, I did a ton of research. I was trying to choose between Ring, Simplisafe, and Nest. I chose Ring. The biggest thing was the upfront cost. I had to buy the security system, extra sensors, and cameras so it added up. But once all set up, the professional monitoring is very affordable. I pay for the whole year and I have no complaints. I’m glad I chose this system.
@@AForeignObject9 only in the beginning when I would forget to disarm the alarm before opening a door. I’ve never had my alarm going off without a trigger. That’s never happened. If it went off it’s always because someone opened a door without disarming it first. Overall it’s been a good system.
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
This was one of the best and most thorough product reviews I’ve seen. Thanks. I pay $80/month for ADT. That ends next month. Ring now has a glass break sensor.
Is the glass break sensor a software update? I bought the 1st gen. system and have yet to install it. I'm wondering if the glass break sensor is only available on the latest edition. Thanks.
I bought my first Ring alarm system roughly five years ago. It worked perfectly the entire time I used it. I recently sold my house and I bought a new house. First thing I did was buy a new Ring system for my new house. Their system just works like it's supposed to. Super easy to install and the app is literally dummy proof. Oh, and the $10 monthly monitoring fee is unbeatable.
Yea not knowing who monitors my whole property as a company … is also unbeatabe at a price of wow $10 bucks a month, These cut rate bozo companies are teaching consumers to not care about real security anymore . Spending even $80 a month is manageable for big enough home or business to ensure your actually secured . That’s a few less coffees a week .
I’ve had my ring alarm system for about the same time as you and I love it! I also have the doorbell, floodlight cam, stick up cam and spotlight cam so the $100 a year monitoring is a bargain. Also instead of or with the regular chime when a door or window is opened/closed I have Alexa announce when and which one is opened/closed.
Very good system I think. BUT we need a couple additions: #1 Key Fob Control, #2 When alarm triggers, it needs to tell Alexa to turn on the Echo-controlled lights! Ring Staff, please put these in Feature Request.
FYI: Battery powered ZWave devices do not relay information. Otherwise, the battery would have to be replaced much more frequently. Since almost all Ring devices are battery powered it is advisable to have a range extender for any devices more than 30 feet from the base station. Side note - I did not know that 3rd party sirens were available. I like the idea of having one outside to alert neighbors if my house is breached. I will have to check these out. Thank you for your efforts.
Another great benefit it should be mentioned is, if you get professional monitoring that gets you a warranty coverage for any of the devices in your system in case they break down for as long as you are subscribed to the service, along 10% discount on your purchases. I had my camera replaced at no cost after microphone failed about a year after the purchase.

The $100 a year option makes it cheaper and it also extends the warranty of all ring product for as long as you pay the fee. I had two old stick up cams replaced with new cams for free.
I purchased both Ring and Simplisafe. Comparing all the options for home security was the hardest part of the whole process. Installed the Ring first...smooth install, very smooth. Then, based mostly on special pricing and I don't know what else, removed and packed up the Ring and installed the Simplisafe. The install was glitchy due to the fact my router was broadcasting in 5g. I had to change router settings to 2.4mhz because that's all the Simplisafe recognizes. Seemed odd but apparently it works better through walls and floors? News to me but, ok. There were a couple of other times I was on my laptop looking things up and one phone call to customer service. The glitches were early on and then finished up smoothly. After an attempted break-in last week, I slept soundly last night and it was worth the effort. Ring and Simplisafe are probably equal in terms of quality but watch for special pricing for each. I ordered the Ring from Amazon and it was a refurb. Still the Simplisafe with special pricing ended up being the better deal.
You also fail to mention that Ring has "smash and grab" protection and SimpliSafe does not. Finally SimpliSafe is easily jammed with a $40 Chinese handheld radio and Ring uses a more secure and not easily thwarted Z-Wave technology which is a much better solution. Just moved from SimpliSafe to Ring because of those two major flaws in SimpliSafe design.
Great video!!! but I wanted to let you know Alexa has a function where you can say Alexa I’m leaving home and Alexa will listen for breaking glass or any alarms and alert you immediately
My understanding is that it will listen and send an alert to your phone but won’t trigger the siren on your ring because it’s not part of the ring security system. Thus somewhat useless when you’re in bed sleeping and the the bad guy breaks the glass and steps in with non audible deterrent

I hate you ADT. Not sure I'm getting the Ring but cancelled ADT today and their $62 a month monitoring service. I feel free. Never again, $10 seems awesome. Thanks.
I've had the ring alarm system for a while now. It has some serious flaws that undermine the whole thing. First, they don't have glass break sensors. I have a basement with a couple of windows (potential entry points). I decided to put a motion detector in the basement that any potential thief would have to walk past. If a bug crawls across the sensor, it will trip the alarm and there is no way to make the system alarm only after at least two sensors detect something.
If you’re handy, there are ways to modify a ring door sensor and turn it into a glass break sensor. You have to open it up and cut out the magnetic switch, then solder on two wires from a separate glass break sensor. I made one of those and it works great on my ring alarm. The biggest issue I have with ring right now is 1) I realized that ring won’t tell you which sensor was triggered either when the alarm is disarmed or when it is armed. If someone breaks in in the middle of the night, personally I want to know where they broke in immediately so that I can react accordingly.
Great video, thanks. Just wondering about the whole business of signal blockers/readers e.g. the type of thing thieves use to steal cars with keyless ignition. Is there a similar vulnerability with Z-Wave? Could a potential burglar interrupt the signals between door/motion sensors and the base station?
Egggggzellent video. You covered all the bases I had concerns with. I have a Google home assistant base and wondered if it was compatible with it but I read Ring assistant app links your Google acct for compatibility. Here in Chicago also. Southside😬 so yea, this is ideal.
Pretty god explanation, can you post a video after 2 years? I am asking because been with Ring since the first generation and after a couple of years they don’t work properly and some of them like the solar panels only for 1 year. Also services for recording increased the prices. Please make a video update. Thank you
Thanks so much for the review! I have had ismart alarm on my house with 3 cameras for a handful of years now and it's been pretty good but they are going out of business now and function of my system has been crippled in several ways. I think ring may be right for us depending on their camera offerings.
Thanks for watching, Ring Alarm: amzn.to/3dKNlPa does have a huge diversity of cameras and doorbells which is an advantage for many people. the $10/month alarm monitoring that includes camera footage storage from an unlimited # of cameras at one address also sweetens the deal.
@@OneHourSmartHome ad a fellow TH-camr I will be sure and use your link to purchase my kit if I go that direction. I know it helps you put a little and I appreciate the work you put into this video. One question for you: I also would like to have at least three cameras on my system and I'm trying to decide between the ring indoor cameras or something like wyze cam. Do you have any experience between those platforms or is there something else you would recommend that works well with the ring ecosystem?
I've had a first gen Wyze cam: amzn.to/2OZkmMX for years that I used for monitoring my garage. I also have an Indoor Ring Cam: amzn.to/3qXCV2g that I will be doing a review on in the next month or two. As far as Wyze goes it works and will record video locally or you can pay for extra cloud storage. A feature I liked is that that you can insert a memory card so that it's recording even if you lose your wifi connection. The things that I noticed with it are that it sometimes is difficult to get connected to wifi networks the first time you set it up because they typically only want to connect to 2.4GHZ networks, so with my Eero network I had to temporarily disable the 5GHZ network to get it connect the first time. After that it ran pretty smoothly. The only other downside I've had is that sometimes the motion notifications or remote viewing was delayed or a little clunky, but it still worked and still recorded but sometimes it required me to do a refresh in the app or open and close the app again. However they are a really low cost option for video monitoring which is what can make them a good value. With the Indoor Ring Cam it was easier to connect and the app interface is cleaner on the Ring app for control especially with several cameras or other Ring products. The integrations with Alexa and Ring were also cleaner than the integrations with Wyze and Alexa. There is more functionality with Ring and other smart home devices than Wyze. The response with remote viewing Ring cameras was slightly more reliable and slightly faster. However the Ring Cameras are more expensive than the Wyze cameras and do require a monthly subscription for video storage even though the Ring monthly plan for multiple cameras is typically less expensive than most competitors. My personal opinion is that Ring is slightly more secure and less likely to be hacked than Wyze but that's just a personal opinion. Ring is owned by Amazon. Wyze is currently it's own company. Wyze works and it can be a good value depending on your use case. Ring works and it's more polished, has more integrations and has better support but comes in at a higher price point. Video quality is fairly similar when viewing on a phone from either camera, I think the Ring has slightly better night vision than the Wyze cam but now Wyze has a spotlight you can add on to the standard cam which improves night vision.
@@susannellis6896 yes I did purchase it. The system works very similar to iSmart but seems to be way more consistent without the bugs we experienced with iSmart. Also arming and disarming the ring system response almost immediately as soon as you hit the button. I never had the keypad with iSmart but the included keypad with ring is really nice to have. We are happy with the switch so far
Thank you for providing a thorough and detailed video with all this information! You answered many questions we had and its great to know you used it for a whole year before giving us your opinions. Thanks again!
Great video. It's been 4 years since your video. Are you still happy with your ring system? If yes would you recommend any newer models of the Ring system or anything such as 4k cameras? Hows the image quality on the video footage stored in the ring cloud? Are you able to zoom in and recognize faces?
I'm still happy with the Alarm System! In terms of cameras and doorbells a lot has changed in 4 years. They all have so many features and the quality has greatly improved. But as far as a DIY Alarm system for window/door sensors and motion detection it does the job. The Ring Alarm Pro: amzn.to/46Xc8sK is what I would recommend now.
Great video! Thank you! Officially liked and subscribed. I’ve received some hefty quotes from ADT and Shield and thinking of going with the DIY Ring system. Silly question. Any yard signs or window stickers with the system?
I don't like the idea of owning any amazon products that listens or records and I definitely need a glass break sensor. However ring alarm is something I got for my business, as a alarm system its amazing and now it has all kinda sensors without need of alexa in your private space so I got it. 200 per year now but still worth it and cheaper than others.
Thanks for the informative comment. The Echo Flex: amzn.to/3jlQEeE is a good product. I've got a video review on it here: th-cam.com/video/IIlurt8-vsg/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for this video. I’m cancelling my Brink’s and installing this system. In regards to your dislike about the alarm not having a glass break detector, do you know if the takeover module will control my existing Brink’s glass breakage detectors?
Do any smart plugs work with this alarm? For example, if someone breaks in and the alarm goes off, I would want certain lights to turn on and also have a few external sirens hooked up to smart plugs to alert outside.
No. Smart plugs and smart switches will not activate when the alarm is sounding. External sirens will however work. Now I have several light switches installed and they work great. Even a variable fan switch. But they only work intentionally. Meaning you have to toggle them individually through the app. But Ring does not have a “scene” option for these switches and plugs. An example is: When my wife comes home from work she has to turn on the garage light and the kitchen light. Then come inside. There is NOT an option for “I am home” and a list of lights are turned on.
Seems more like an ad than an actual review. You did do a good job of covering the system itself but no so much on how it’s actually been working for you after a year of use.
Im just wondering about the wifi range. Im looking to be able to add a additional door sensor on my detached garage that is roughly 100 feet from my house, will it be able to trigger the alarm inside the house from the outside garage?
Very helpful video, thanks! Just one question. For the cellular mode, there is a port in the hub/main/control unit where you can insert a sim card? And if so, it can work simultaneously with wifi throughout the app? For example, in case of alarm/intruder or arm/disarm can I get sms notification on my phone and notification through the app?
I am trying to decide Ring vs Simplisafe security system ...with professional monitoring. Which would you go with for 2600 sq ft house? Currently have ADT and they are charging $71 a month for monitoring which is ridiculous.
It's amazing definitely have to look into this and it is a great deal If security is the main benefit of staying safe and staying well Glad I came across this
I have a bunch ITI SX_V Sensors that are 319.5 MHZ. Will the Ring System be able to utilize these sensors? I know my system is quite old. My Power supply is failing and I can't seem to find the proper replacement. I am leaning towards a Ring System as the price and quality seem to be very competitive, and well received.
Is it possible to arm a certain rooms e.g. when i go to sleep i want to arm kitchen sitting room and door contact only,I want to leave passage and bedrooms
Would breaking the glass not trigger the sensors anyway? My current alarm goes off if something hits my window too hard just from the sensors being shook
Did you spend the year installing? And next year for the app? Just need a rocket scientist for the mess.? Unbelievable!! Seems very vulnerable considering the many needs of the mess.
can you speak to the Amazon sidewalk for Ring and amazon devices and potential security concerns? I am looking at getting the ring system and doorbell and have disabled the sidewalk feature on my alexa app.
Does this have the camera system or is this just an alarm system. I also wondered is there a monthly fee you have to pay? I've had neighbors that had the ring system in the camera outside and within a few months they took it down ; wondering if it was because of monthly fees
I currently have door sensors from an older security system that I just got rid of. I believe they are also Z-Wave. Can I add those to the Ring system?
If you follow the instructions its very simple. I'm tech savvy and didn't, so that made me need to re-pair(join) a device and the main hub. All the components come already paired. Very simple to install ! Try and if you run into issue have Bestbuy Geeksquad come set it up or something.
Love the videos. You said (at about 1:04) you can add additional sirens to ring system. However, Ring does not make a separate Siren. Do you know which sirens you can add? I heard Dome Siren isn't very good.
I didn't see any siren's that work with Ring. I would like the hide the base station in a none visible location that could muffle the sound. Having a siren else where would be useful.

Did you purchase this? We also have Ismart alarm and are looking for it’s replacement as our system is also not functioning like it used to.
Everything is so big plus what company central station does it go through
Great video.
Excellent overview, however I watched the entire video waiting for price information and and a few installation details.
Great video! Thank you! Officially liked and subscribed. I’ve received some hefty quotes from ADT and Shield and thinking of going with the DIY Ring system. Silly question. Any yard signs or window stickers with the system?
Very informing video and good useful comments from others. Thank you
Ring solar powered spotlight, more than 3 years now and never have i touched it 😂 it just kept on going!
Thanks great info you just help me make up my mind re security systems Ring it’s going to be Jah bless
Interesting that you can use existing hard wiring.
I'm going to look into that.
Excellent video, thanks for your help!
Great video! I'm curious if a cat could trigger the alarm. That's one of the reasons I haven't gotten an alarm. Thanks.
Does it work if your wifi is down / power goes out?
Thank you Ethan Suplee for this great review. Congrats on the weight loss.
This was a helpful and insightful video - thanks!!
I just ordered the echo flex plug in smart speaker. It will detect fire alarms that go off in your house and the sound of glass breaking.
Thanks for the informative comment. The Echo Flex: amzn.to/3jlQEeE is a good product. I've got a video review on it here: th-cam.com/video/IIlurt8-vsg/w-d-xo.html
Great review and overview of the features. Though please stop saying “Alexa” in these reviews! 😂 mine keeps answering
😅🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for this video. I’m cancelling my Brink’s and installing this system. In regards to your dislike about the alarm not having a glass break detector, do you know if the takeover module will control my existing Brink’s glass breakage detectors?
They have glass break sensors now, video is somewhat dated.
Whats the best one for a commercial property? I own a Automotive shop and need a good system.
Would this security system be disable by a wifi jammer?
How good is the ring security camera?
Does the professional monitoring work in other countries? Thank you
How does the cellular backup work?
Seems more like an ad than an actual review. You did do a good job of covering the system itself but no so much on how it’s actually been working for you after a year of use.
When a door or window opens, does the chime alert come from the keypads as well?
Can you control whether the system chimes (or not) per zone? As in, Front Door chimes, but Back Door does not, etc.?
Question: Can you add or transition over existing Bluetooth door and window sensors (not "wired" as you mentioned in this video)?
How long do most of these low energy devices, like the door sensors?
What about the high energy devices like cameras?
Great video. Would having a ring alarm system with Eufy cameras be an acceptable and sensible choice? Or would this be a mistake?
Nice quality product
Im just wondering about the wifi range. Im looking to be able to add a additional door sensor on my detached garage that is roughly 100 feet from my house, will it be able to trigger the alarm inside the house from the outside garage?
So you have to pull the sensor down to charge it I have a honeywell alarm and my sensor lasts for years
Thank you for the info . Simple to the point 👍🏼
I'm in the same boat. ADT is charging me $83/month and is ridiculous!. So I'm saying goodbye to ADT and hello Ring.
Thanks for being so thorough brother. Liked and subbed.
It's amazing definitely have to look into this and it is a great deal If security is the main benefit of staying safe and staying well Glad I came across this
Awesome video! You answered a lot of my questions.I’m subscribing to your page.
What about window breakage? Does ring have to those?
I have a bunch ITI SX_V Sensors that are 319.5 MHZ. Will the Ring System be able to utilize these sensors? I know my system is quite old. My Power supply is failing and I can't seem to find the proper replacement. I am leaning towards a Ring System as the price and quality seem to be very competitive, and well received.
informative! liked the idea.
Is it possible to arm a certain rooms e.g. when i go to sleep i want to arm kitchen sitting room and door contact only,I want to leave passage and bedrooms
Awesome review man! Thanks!
Thank you for this video.
Would breaking the glass not trigger the sensors anyway? My current alarm goes off if something hits my window too hard just from the sensors being shook
So how does the paid surveillance know when it's just you opening a door vs someone breaking in? Does it only trigger if you're on the "away" setting?
Did you spend the year installing? And next year for the app? Just need a rocket scientist for the mess.? Unbelievable!! Seems very vulnerable considering the many needs of the mess.
I have Xfinity home security system but my contract is about to expire. Is it worth switching to Ring?
They have glass sensors now
THANK YOU!
Can I use it in not heated space? at -10C?
What is the point in having an indoor siren ?
can you speak to the Amazon sidewalk for Ring and amazon devices and potential security concerns? I am looking at getting the ring system and doorbell and have disabled the sidewalk feature on my alexa app.
what's the use of number buttons on the keypad?
Does this have the camera system or is this just an alarm system. I also wondered is there a monthly fee you have to pay? I've had neighbors that had the ring system in the camera outside and within a few months they took it down ; wondering if it was because of monthly fees
Can you set your ring to guard when your windows are open?
I currently have door sensors from an older security system that I just got rid of. I believe they are also Z-Wave. Can I add those to the Ring system?
Great review 👍
Thanks for the comment it's appreciated, and thank you for watching.
Why do you not mention what kind of batteries the Ring System uses (for the door sensors?)
They are CR123 Batteries: amzn.to/39ICFhk This video shows you how to change them. th-cam.com/video/SmM08vGXzxg/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for your quick reply and thanks for that video. I'm trying to decide between Ring and Nest. Thanks again!
Hope you went with Ring
will the ADT sensors work with the Ring Alarm system?
yes with the ring retrofit hub you can use existing door, window and motion sensors.
I get overwhelmed by self-installation. Is there a way to have RING do an installation?
The installation is super simple! One of the reasons I bought it! There's great videos on TH-cam too!
If you follow the instructions its very simple. I'm tech savvy and didn't, so that made me need to re-pair(join) a device and the main hub. All the components come already paired. Very simple to install ! Try and if you run into issue have Bestbuy Geeksquad come set it up or something.
Very informative! I was leaning toward Ring but you sealed the deal. Nice job!!!
Love the videos. You said (at about 1:04) you can add additional sirens to ring system. However, Ring does not make a separate Siren. Do you know which sirens you can add? I heard Dome Siren isn't very good.
They do! Check Amazon
I didn't see any siren's that work with Ring. I would like the hide the base station in a none visible location that could muffle the sound. Having a siren else where would be useful.

@@OneHourSmartHome can this be used in the UK?
@@gy-tb9yw The pro monitoring is only avable for the US and CA. I dont know if the system it's self is available in the UK. Stay safe!
Ring has an Outdoor Siren for the Ring Alarm now :)
Poor video to watch when your Alexa sits under your computer haha
Great informative video! I really appreciate this. Do you know if the retrofit component would work with existing Vivint sensors?
Following because I’m looking to switch from Vivint also.
@@mykalakippenhan4175 I’m actually torn between ring and vivint. How was giving for you if you don’t mind me askin?
@@mykalakippenhan4175 It should work if the devices are hardwired. If they are wireless, they will not. At worst case, change the devices i.e. motions, glassbreaks, window/door contacts, to universal devices and they will work.
