They aren't delisting the original title, they're just moving it to a legacy bundle and rebranding it in order to avoid confusing customers.
Still quite bullshit how a fully playable game is made exclusive to the two Sonic-related bundles instead of just, idk, being either hidden from search just like how Valve did with Half Life Source, or simply renamed to something like "Classic", "Old" etc.

The main reason is money. Hiding it in a bundle makes it so you have to pay way more to own the original, or pay more for the new remaster. Now I think the new content is almost worth the price, but it still stings a bit that corpos can just chose to do this.

Hedgehog engine is a complete engine, mirage is the graphics engine. Sonic doesn’t use havoc for movement

@@vanshygamer1316 they presented the graphical part of the engine iirc (which *is* the most noticeable part in a presentation), even says mirage on there. even then, research from modders shows that it is an everything engine as colors uses it and doesn’t use mirage

it pains me when someone says gens was the last good sonic game because frontiers being ass feels like a collective bandwagon the community jumped on just because other people exaggerated its flaws and people ran with it, it did a lot for the franchise, its super important and has a lot of highs, i dont understand the hate
Play any other open world game and see how it compares to Frontiers, which is held together by toothpicks and glue.

Frontiers was sold with 4 “massive” starfall islands at 60 dollars, still being riddled with bug as of yesterday when I picked it up again that have killed my gameplaying experience. The level design is pure automation through rails, springs, and dash panels. By modern standards, Frontiers should’ve been an absolute flop and speaking to people outside of twitter and irl, they think the game is a joke too. Frontiers is not 5 years of work on a game full of stock assets and atrocious pop in that fans had to fix as always. Sega should be embarrassed and ashamed of a piece of garbage that Sonic fanatics only like because they’re desperate to say Sonic is peak no matter what. Telling you if that game came out in the 2000’s everyone would be trashing on it. At least Shadow Generations looks great.

Mania being a fan game and Frontiers being overrated
Mania was great but frontiers was just okay. As great as mania was, I wish they made more new stages for it. Frontiers is a step in the right direction, but feels a bit rough around the edges.

Uh, how? They aren't taking it away from the existing owners.
It's scummy because you're not allowed to get the original game anymore, and you're forced to get the "remaster" that is more expensive.

Sonic Generations will always be a gem to me. The build up for the original release was so special to me, I'll forever cherish it
A correction: the hedgehog engine and hedgehog engine 2 are only lighting engines: they don't at all have anything to do with gameplay elements (a fair few of the sonic and mario at the Olympics games use the hedgehog engine 1/2 funnily enough). It's just sad hedgehog engine 2 has never really been used in a decent game like generations (although Shadow Generations will be using hedgehog engine 2).
if generations remastered uses an updated version of hedgehog engine 1, porting old mods would be possible after a year or 2 if not sooner. similar thing happened happened to skyrim, OG version delisted replaced with the remaster and because its using same engine but updated, it took like a year or 2 to get mods working properly again. Now Skyrim Special Edition have more modding capabilities due to the updated engine and removed limitations.

This video feels a bit unnecessary,. I understand delisting the game to sell it with a new title is scummy but when you say stuff like people won't be able to experience the modding scene the game had was already addressed by the developers. They heard the community and made sure to let the game be compatible with the mods after so many fans voiced their concerns. This was stated on their official Twitter almost a month ago by now.
And they’re obviously also gonna put mods in the newer version of generations, and they’re also gonna mod Shadow generations, they make it seem as if the entire game is changing when it’s literally just a visual update
@@KevonPearson It's not even a visual update, just a few quality of life changes with UI and gameplay. The graphics are mostly untouched.

I actually disagree with you at 3:40 tbh, I think Crisis City Act 2 is a huge downgrade from the original in everything except gameplay functionality.
Most of the cool sections and gimmicks from the OG (skateboarding, grinding, the whirlwind section, the varied sense of direction) are gone, and replaced with fairly generic lava level design and really tedious 2D sections. I like how they invert the mach speed section at the end, but besides that the Gens version takes away more than it adds. It's still a good stage, but it just feels like like a reimagining of the original stage and more like "Gens city stage #300 except now it's on fire"
This is 100% true and I'm surprised no one seems to share the same opinion. I think it's because most people skipped 06 due to how buggy and unfinished it was, but after replaying Crisis City in P-06 I realized how great Crisis City is, and how "fine" the Gens version is.

I disagree with your take on the delisting. Why is it so hard to understand how business works? If the original Generations stayed up, it would heavily decrease sales. People would think that Shadow Generations is just DLC, and go for the one literally half the price. What sense would it make to keep an outdated version of a game you want to remaster?
"But the mods-" nah man, if you wanted to play mods, you would have got the game yesteryear. Don't blame SEGA for your lack of proactivity. Yeah it's sad that newcomers won't get those mods, but millions already have them. Plus, if you care that much about mods, you're probably gonna get the remaster anyway. In fact, just sail the seven seas for it. I doubt SEGA would care since the pre orders are already going crazy for Shadow.
Edit: also, to say Gens was the last great Sonic game is kinda harsh. I'm not going to force you to like Mania or Frontiers, but you can't just neglect what they did for the franchise, especially Frontiers. In fact, I think Dream Team an Superstars deserve to be there as well.

Hedgehog engine is a full game engine that is in house for Sonic Team not just a graphics engine while you are right the control changes werent caused by it Hedgehog engine is alot more then just graphics
Hedgehog Engine is a graphics engine as WELL AS a game engine. You're right in saying the control changes aren't caused by the engine changing, but that's only because newer Sonic games use the same character controller as Lost World, not the character controller Unleashed through Generations used.
The Havok and Bullet engines the games use are for things like rigid body collision and animation, Hedgehog Engine manages Sonic's physics all on its own. They could use the same character controller as Gens and Unleashed, but the reason they don't is because they just don't want to.

I was born in the Genesis era so my first Sonic experience was the Gamecube era. I feel ya lol. But I came to love Sonic through Adventure 2 and Unleashed. Generations indeed is a fantastic game.

I disagree with the sentiment that caring about the stories of the games is dumb or makes you a loser, some of these games have the only thing that is saving them be the story or at least the ambition of the story (like shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06)

07:08 - I don’t really understand this criticism about Unleashed. Unleashed has tons of branching paths that intertwine.
It does but to a limited degree. But this was discussed too many times. Its okay to have a different opinion than other people.
I also felt Sonic Unleashed level design is way too linear, but everyone discussed these opinions back in 2008. Its okay if you still like Unleashed levels. But being open-minded on why other humans may not like the same thing as you is crucial for speaking to others outside the internet
not so much a criticism but a point of comparison, I adore the unleashed levels I just do think the paths in unleashed tend to be more little shortcuts than fully extensive alternate routes.

You think frontiers is great? The game for me was fun and a good step for great game but it didn't do much for me. The aesthetics are bland, controls either feel fine or awkward, and combat is simplistic. Why do you think it was Great if you don't mind me asking?

Nothing against you, It just bums me out that the 3DS version is, more often than not, forgotten when talking about Generations.
And it will probably be even more forgotten after the remaster comes out.
Don't get me wrong, It's nowhere near as polished or good as the console and PC versions, but I think all versions should be remembered just as fondly.

You know, as excited as I am for this game (especially Shadow's portion), I wish we would have gotten more stages that were iconic for Shadow. Im excited of course with Kingdom Valley and the Space Colony Ark, but I would have loved to see White Jungle or Final Haunt. Nevertheless, I'm still very hype to see Shadow finally back in the spotlight, rather than being a Sonic cheerleader like the original Generations.
Oh boy can't wait to play the first Sonic game that brought me into the franchise again!

this isnt the last great sonic game, this is one of the best yea, but almost everyone agrees that Gens was beat by Sonic Frontiers, a 2022 title.

I believe that Sonic Gens is a good game, but I feel like there could have been a lot more done with it and it seems like that will be the case for the remaster. It would have been great to see Classic Sonic get more boss fights, see CD or some handheld levels get some love too, and some unlockable skins/characters would have been fun. It always felt like they found their rhythm with Gens and then played it safe.
Edit: I want to make it clear that the Shadow portion is a great addition, but I consider that separate from the Gens portion. unless I have miss read something I think the 3DS stages should have been put in there for this upcoming release.

1:59 They aren't delisting it completely, it's just only going to be avaliable in a bundle with other Sonic games (and generally if you own the other games in the bundle you still get a discount on whatever's left in it). It's a little annoying and scummy but I'm glad they aren't delisting it completely like they did with the Classic Sonic games, and they're pretty much only doing it due to fan request which is cool.

They are not gonna delist it, they are just gonna be in collection packs on steam not individually
Delisting the original version is not that bad if this new Remaster is still going to have the original content. AND if you already owned the original version you're still going to continue playing that regardless so it won't bother existing customers AND it is not exactly being delisted , its moving to a bundle so people can still buy it regardless.
AAAAAAND if you're still mad about all that , you can still find the PS3/XBOX360 and OG version on PC through seven seas. so its not lost

The sonic compete bundle is $51 on humble and has every sonic game up to forces (except the delisted genesis games), so just buy that and not the scam “legacy bundle” that doesn’t even include the OG versions of the genesis games

mods wont be affected but to play them you have to have the game which is now locked behind a bundle 10 dollars more expensive than the remaster thats coming out, and i think thats not cool
@@Time_Sink meh, I don’t think that’s too bad considering that 1. The base price of the game is still $10 below the old standard price and $20 less then the base price that is starting to become more standard so the bundle with the original game is only the standard price of a game, and it’s also not like they are taking away copies of the game and either way, if they didn’t include it in the bundle then buying them separately would have costed more then doing it this way, so if anything Sega would be losing money if people wanted to buy the original game for mods, but people getting the new release probably wouldn’t be looking for the old game for mods either way
So it wouldn’t be taking away from people wanting to play with mods because for those who want to buy the game and have the original would have to spend more money buying them seprately instead of in 1 bundle that is $10 more with other stuff as well
Like, you can say it’s greed but genuinely, how is it making them more money to give you the original game for far cheaper with the newer rerelease, then it would be to let you buy the original for the original cost or worse, let consumers be confused by them potentially accidentally buying the original generations instead of the new one which would force you to buy 2 games instead of 1
Like, genuinely think about it, most people who would want to have the old version of the game probably would also want the stuff from the new release, so it would be cheaper for the average consumer to buy the $10 more bundle and also get other stuff along side it, then it would have been to buy them seprately
