Hey there, just wanted to comment and say a huge thank you from all the developers for making this video, definitely went more in-depth breaking down the levels than we've seen anyone else do, which we really appreciate. All of the feedback given was great to hear too, always good to actually have some criticism to listen to, especially when the plan is to try address a good chunk of the issues you and others had with the mod. To shed a little light on that, one of our main focuses for the future updates we're working on is the jump physics, Forces infamously doesn't really control well with the jump in 3D, and we thought it wasn't possible to fix up until recently. Thanks to a lot of coding however, we've been working on fixing the air turning to be much tighter in order to make complex 3D platforming more possible with the Forces physics. As such, there are gonna be some edits done to the levels to accommodate this change to the controls, nothing _major_ but it should add a little bit more to what's there, in addition to fixing bugs and visual things. The frequency of quickstep and rail switching sections mainly just came about because of how limiting Forces was 3D movement-wise when designing them, so those were our main way to have some proper challenge in 3D without forcing the use of Forces' jumping controls too much since they're a bit of a struggle to use. We tried to go for more of the Unleashed approach, where it was focused more on fast-paced reactionary obstacles and movement, rather than the heavier focus on 3D platforming like in Generations. This and the addition of some new content we're currently putting together should hopefully flesh out and improve the mod, so we really thank you again for presenting all criticisms in such a thoughtful and constructive way. Hoping y'all stick around for the upcoming updates.
Howdy brick! Tester for the mod here, and I'd like to give a couple tidbits during development: -During testing, originally Eclipse Forest and Jungle Inferno was one stage that transitions from one to the other, but after a ton of crashes we couldn't fix as a result to it being such a massive stage, we ultimately had to cut it into two different stages. -At one point, the placeholder for Neo Metal in the boss stage was a potted Green Hill Zone plant that to this day still makes me laugh
Fun fact: one of the level designers for overclocked, brandonj is developing a mod called sonic forces re-imagined. They are getting back into development now after working on some frontiers levels for a bit and I love their work. (Only at 44:30 right after wanting a reimagined version was talked about, might get jumpscared with this mod being mentioned but thats only a hope)
Little fact abt the mod: this isn’t the finished version. Due to covid, they couldn’t finish it, so they held a poll on their discord to the fans to either: leave CHAPTER 1 as is. Finish it, but make it drastically shorter and make it one complete compact package. The fans chose for the finished but shorter option, and this mod is what that was. From what I know, there was a metropolitan highway remake planned, an aqua road remake, a null space level(which is why that part with the avatar felt weird), a Network Terminal revamp and more. In general every level except for the classic sonic levels. When i was talking to the lead level designer, @brandonj, he said that it was pretty much impossible to finish it. This is what he said "There is no universe where we’d work for another decade(literally)to complete everything planned for the original mod." Along with that, classic Sonic was pretty much ruled out around the beginning of development(which was in 2019-2020), but it was planned since "Ghost Town" and the invincibility theme were remixed and posted on the channel(have been removed since around 2021). Also to elaborate on that chapter 1 thing: the original mod was gonna be split up in chapters. At the time of that poll, chapter 1 was pretty much done(which was I think 4-5 levels, with fright frenzy, stolen valley and eclipse forest being some of the stages). Don’t quote me on this, but pretty sure it was gonna be 2-3 chapters.
Honestly, voting for finishing it as just chapter 1 was definitely the right call. Fan projects like this are notorious for overestimating ability, underestimating development time, and then dropping off the face of the earth when key developers quit for various reasons. Sure we can all wish for the "What if?" of a finished 3 chapter epic, but at the end of the day the vote was really between a complete but short mod, or an unfinished mess of dropped ideas.
"If a group of fans setting fire to Green Hill in their mod doesn't send the message... Idk what will." JESUS, the whiplash of the implication is staggering, like... And I completely agree, too!
One thing that I like about your content is that whenever some bug happens (falling through the floor, getting stuck on objects etc), you make a funny joke instead of making some big deal out of it.
Reminds me of the “I can’t fucking stand this” guy over that chemical plant floor glitch in Frontiers. I get that some people are exhausted with the quality of these games, but some of these overreactions are too much. It kinda ruins any sort of constructive conversation when you come at it with this “I’m gonna hate this regardless” attitude.
I appreciate you actually giving Overclocked a fair, thorough critique instead of just blindly praising it, because it's fan made and free. Criticism encourages improvement and discussing what something does right and what it does wrong can only be a positive.
A small clarification, the mod WAS going to be longer, with it being in works since like 2018 as an Forces Encore Mode mod. However since the development of what we got already took half a decade, it couldn't realistically be fully realized as sad as it is. One of the developers posted about a Shadow Android boss fight that would've taken place of Zavok's.
And it never will.... Probably cause he doesn't want to have his friends suffer playing the game with him and hasn't been able to clone himself to play with him

If I remember correctly, there was supposed to be a lot more levels and content in Overclocked, basically every level in the main game aside from classic stages remixed. Sadly, the developers were apparently going through stuff in life like Covid so it was cut short.

Hi. I don’t know if you’ll believe me but I’m the original creator of this project. I had been stewing over Forces for quite some time and after watching a video showcasing a modded redesign of Mortar Canyon I finally snapped and asked the guy showcasing the mod if they wanted to help me remake Sonic Forces. They agreed and we started a discord along with one their friends and got to work. And while I left the project fairly early on due to various reasons it’s been an absolute joy and fills me with so much pride to see what was just a few others and I spitballing ideas on how to make Forces better into a fully fleshed out title. Thank you for the high praise and bringing more attention to the project!
honestly out of all things i can't blame overclock not touching on the linearity of Forces. cause we do have to remind ourselves, it's a mod still trying to work with the limitations of the game, i'd really have a hard time trying to imagine something like Generations seaside hill running on forces
You’re probably already aware of this but the mod has recently received an update titled “The Jump Update”, as the name implies it heavily improves the jump control to be more like frontiers along with adding some 3D platforming that actually utilises the jump, aside from that theres been some smaller edits to the stages, the avatar songs have had the lyrics changed along with a new credit song, the cutscenes have had a few changes with one of them being completely re-drawn, and some simple audio and visual fixes. Now while this update is good I doubt you plan to make a video on it since it is very small however I will point out in the end credits of the update we get a little teaser of Version 2.0 and even though we basically know nothing it does show off some crazy looking art which implies that we may get some sort of add-on to the story or at the very least a new level so I’d keep an eye out for that.
can i just say i LOVE your delivery? jokes never feel stale, it's like you're always switching up between giving a long beat to telegraph when a shift in tone is coming or you just weave something absolutely hilarious seamlessly into the script where i just have to pause the video and go back a few seconds because im laughing too much
The thing that disappoints me most about the Avatar character is that it would be PERFECT for momentum based grappling gameplay, kinda like if Spiderman was a Sonic character... They don't have the boost, but you could still gain a ton of momentum by grappling off of things, it would have been GREAT! Overclocked did a little of this (the grappling hook things that launch you forward are a great start), but it still doesn't live up to its full potential.
Well, i'd be damned, I was LITERALLY thinking about "hmmm when is bick gonna jumpscare me." I turn to my tv to watch TF2 funny moments #29292 and my phone jumpscares me with you.
I've provided some production assistance on the mod, largely on helping getting some models and animations converted for use in-game, and general visual-related stuff (such as Infinite's materials in the final level, Metal Sonic's purple glowing effects, normal/PBR texture maps for some materials, etc.). I feel that one of the more impressive aspects on my end, is that until it was towards the end of development, I didn't even have a build of the main mod to work off of (did have good communication with some of the team members, and I was sent the important assets though!) That said, I found this review to be quite interesting, and the feedback is much appreciated overall. Despite its shortcomings, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
As a avatar defender and enjoyer (despite knowing there are many flaws) I believe and always have belived that if a future game gave us the return of an avatar like system it could benefit a lot from a shadow the hedgehog like system making each avatar you create more distinct and further opening the possibilities for player immersion and investment for their character. I never sought out to create a story for my avatar originally, but suddenly he had gone from a timid bear scared for his life against Infinite to a bear that had replaced a lot of his body with robotic parts in order to be able to help the resistance. and that was only from what I happened to unlock after different stages. Imagine having different scenarios where things you do in stages affect the other characters perception of you, especially since the avatar is a stranger to Sonic and his friends. Being able to join Eggman or being a lone wolf. There are so many possibilities, and then having a culmination where all the characters you created interact in a final story.
Bickuribox is doing everything he can to avoid that superstars review, I swear. Great video though. I played this mod not long after it came out and I really liked it. It was like a glimpse into an alternate reality of what could have been.
You know what else is crazy about this whole experience? It costs $0. I think that's the craziest part about it all. It's very obvious how much love and care went into this mod over the base game. They didn't ask for a dime for all this work, so I don't think I could judge it too much for being short, given the low low price of free.99. Would it be cooler if there were more platforming-focused 3D sections? 100%. They could've thrown in a few of those segments, if they had interesting ideas for them. Otherwise, I think it's definitely a good DLC for Forces.
One of the best parts of the mod is that each level does try to have its own dedicated level gimmick to make each level stand out. Freight frenzy has the trains, city siege has the water shooters, eclipse forest and jungle inferno have their own respective vines, meteor rush has its meteors obviously, etc. They really did a lot with what they had, honestly even if it’s short it’s just a really nice tight sonic experience, plenty of replay value in these stages.
Thanks a lot for all the work you put into these fantastic videos. I’ve been pretty obsessed with overclocked lately and I was ecstatic to see you posted a review for it. You’ve quickly become one of my favorite TH-cam channels, I’m really happy you’re sticking with it and making these awesome reviews and videos for us. You’re the man!
The stage themes are very creative, but I think it’s unhelpful to uncritically call this area of the mod a “fix.” For as boring as the concepts were, we should give Sonic Team credit for making the stages so easily readable. The mod team here just was able to pick interesting colors, but didn’t go the extra mile to assign them in a way that maintained good visual hierarchy in any given scene. The background shouldn’t blend with level geometry shouldn’t blend with intractables shouldn’t blend with the enemies, and yet with most of this footage I find myself squinting to see these dark grind rails, or getting overwhelmed by seas of neon purple that shouldn’t be taking so much attention from so far away. In a game that moves _this_ fast those extra milliseconds of “what am i looking at right now” is such a flow killer
Whenever big fan projects happen like this, I do think it's important to remember that when it comes to any creative work, if you try to capture absolutely all the possibilities and fulfill any and all potential, you are very very likely to scope creep yourself, never get the damn thing done at all, and leave the process burnt out and frustrated. But seeing how the team is still working on this, and they finished a great full pass of the story and a decent number of levels, they have all the room to keep growing, adding and adjusting.
I hate the fact that no Sonic fan could put 2 and 2 together and realize the "Infinite Creatures." *ARE JUST CHAOS. LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CHAOS. THE MASK DOESN'T EVEN MOVE. SOMEONE PLEASE JUST REMOVE THE MASK AND MAKE IT BLUE SO IT CAN JUST BE CHAOS.
@@TheDuckDealer Who says it wasn't supposed to be chaos because it clearly looks like chaos and the infinate creatures don't even appear in the cutscenes. The Phantom Ruby has the ability to clone people so Chaos clones literally makes 1000% sense, and chaos didn't get a boss fight.
I thought the Null Space aspect was where we fight Infinite and Neo Metal, hence all the distortion in the background and the revisiting of other locations with Phantom Ruby elements all over the stage. And Neo Metal and Infinite are defeated and left stuck in Null Space at the end of the boss stage, hence why they’re in Null Space in the final cutscene after the credits. And you can see in the cutscene after the boss level Sonic and the Avatar run through a portal and escape Null Space back into the hanger at the end of Meteor Rush.
It turns out Classic Sonic gameplay may actually have been included at one point in development. According to an old website for the mod, special thanks were given to Showin for their Classic Sonic physics improvements, and a screenshot from its gallery featured Classic Super Sonic staring at an Infinite-themed goal sign. I don't blame Overclocked Team for scrapping it, both for it not being a popular aspect of the original game as well as the fact that he'd canonically returned to his home time/dimension/whatever. As a fun aside, the archived voice cast includes credits for Shadow, Rouge, Omega and Black Doom.
I’m a Sonic fan since 1991, yet I always been avoiding the fandom (in general) due to bad experiences. To see some fans out there really be passionate like this, for a subpar product carelessly pumped out, redefining it in a good way is really inspiring to me.
I haven’t looked up bikuribox in a long while but since I got back into realm I decided to checkup on him! I was very surprised and happy to see his channel is doing 1 million times better than when I last saw it. No he isn’t doing realm anymore, but it’s still awesome to know he’s still at it!
You posted this the same day I was attending the Sonic Symphony! I'm only now getting the chance to comment on this review, and I wish I could have sooner because I LOVED every minute of this. Criticisms and opinions were well articulated, the humor was brilliantly edited and delivered once again, and it made my day better than it already was. By the way, incredible speedruns; hope your thumbs recover soon!
Thanks for reviewing this game. Personally I loved this pretty much sequal to forces. It’s what forces needed more of, probably one of my favorite boost games?…. It’s just sonic you know? Incredible mod.
I pre-ordered this game, played it at launch, completed it in one sitting, and never touched it again. It's not a bad game, it's just a whole lot of nothing. But after watching this video, I have an urge to go back and play it for the first time in 7 years! This is why the Sonic community is the greatest fandom in gaming, no matter what quality of games that Sega gives us, the fans will always fix it and Sega supports their passion projects! (This is also why PC is the best platform to game on! :P)
I hope the devs take any criticism with pride knowing they’re being compared with professionals - seriously, the stuff done here is an absolute marvel and it’s clear there’s so much love and passion put into it with unique animations, length that outright multiplies the game’s playtime, cutscenes that are fully voice acted with care and detail put into everything.. gosh - I really hope you all get job offers soon because it’s just… *wow*
I should probably mention that the avatar never even sent to Null Space. Eggman redirected him to the Death Egg from inside Null Space. He even said so in the final cutscene. Also, the entire final boss was IN Null Space.
Nothing makes me click faster than Bickiribox posting a video. Of all the TH-camrs on this platform, this is the one I willingly watch and not just for background noise
I don't know if someone mentioned it already. In the Mod manager in the mod config, you choose if you want vocals in the Avatar levels. They have slightly different lyrics, but it's mostly a cover

19:12 I have watched this bit too many times; your delivery and timing is comedy GOLD!
That "...this is half of Colors!" line is just BRUTAL!!! 😏
Green Hill’s looking more like I can’t fucking see anything anymore Hill.
The superstars video is like adventure 3. It's never coming out
have faith brother
Wasn't the purpose of sonic frontiers to help sonic adventure 3 come out?
@@ThatBOiAnthony I have no idea
@@ThatBOiAnthony No
It’s already out. It’s called Spark the Electric Jester 3
Always wanted u to do a review but actually never thought you would do it
god every time the writing for these is so tight and so funny
you are such a fantastic reviewer
New Bickuribox videos are the kinds of videos that I give a like BEFORE I watch them.
You knew is a good day when brickuribox uploads
Bickuri showing us once again that he is Forces biggest fan.
I really appreciate how much introspection so many of these fan games bring to the discussion of the Sonic franchise as a whole.
Was always curious about Overclocked but never really looked into it so this was a great surprise
I hate the fact that no Sonic fan could put 2 and 2 together and realize the "Infinite Creatures." *ARE JUST CHAOS. LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CHAOS. THE MASK DOESN'T EVEN MOVE. SOMEONE PLEASE JUST REMOVE THE MASK AND MAKE IT BLUE SO IT CAN JUST BE CHAOS.
it wasnt supposed to be chaos it just reused the shader
BATTLE NETWORK PFP DETECTED
@@TheDuckDealer Who says it wasn't supposed to be chaos because it clearly looks like chaos and the infinate creatures don't even appear in the cutscenes. The Phantom Ruby has the ability to clone people so Chaos clones literally makes 1000% sense, and chaos didn't get a boss fight.
I’m forever grateful that I live in a world where sonic fan games and mods exist as an alternative to the official games
So super stoked you checked this out. Everyone worked amazingly hard on the mod. There's definitely some more content coming for it in the future!
Imagine if there was a secret boss that could only appear if you managed to clip through the floor... That would be INSANE.
Today's a good day to go for a stroll while listening to Bickuribox yammer about a game I touched once and never again. Love the vid!
Glad to hear you’re inside on a mod that I’ve been following for sometime. Hopefully I can enjoy it for myself… When I get it working
I’m a Sonic fan since 1991, yet I always been avoiding the fandom (in general) due to bad experiences. To see some fans out there really be passionate like this, for a subpar product carelessly pumped out, redefining it in a good way is really inspiring to me.
I played this the day it came out, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. It is SO GOOD.
0:01 I like trains
Everyone do the flop
Me too

Every upload of yours is a treat. Good shit bro
We're so back my fellow boxes
I pre-ordered this game, played it at launch, completed it in one sitting, and never touched it again. It's not a bad game, it's just a whole lot of nothing. But after watching this video, I have an urge to go back and play it for the first time in 7 years! This is why the Sonic community is the greatest fandom in gaming, no matter what quality of games that Sega gives us, the fans will always fix it and Sega supports their passion projects! (This is also why PC is the best platform to game on! :P)
I always loved Forces, but I acknowledge that its mediocre(for the most part)
Im one of the few people who still kinda plays forces in 2024
I was on a bickuribinge this morning, and then I see this
the man himself has uploaded a new video and this is the best and most entertaining news of my otherwise very boring Saturday
Welp, they did. Your wish has been granted
Ahhh yes another example of how fans do what Sega don’t (insert Sega hire this man joke here)
Your reviews always make the characters feel alive fsr
finally, TNH worked on a sonic music piece outside of his own videos
We got a Sonic Forces Overclocked review before Superstars
I literally just rewatched all your frotiers reviews yesterday we're so back
She sonic'd on my forces till I overclocked.
I only re-installed Forces on my PC a day or two ago because I remembered mods exist… this one I’m looking forward to trying out for the first time
Oh wow those original OST tracks give me such a Spark The Electric Jester vibe and I am *so* here for it
Superstars doesn't exist for this man
Yooo I remember watching a bit of gameplay for this a while back! It's cool to see you talk about it!
Love the sense of Humor in your videos btw!
7:03 I’m scared of omochao more than before
i used to watch your channel but forgot the channel name so I've been looking for this channel for years just trying to subscribe again
YES! Been waiting for this one : )
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the vocals in the avatar stages tho
I should probably mention that the avatar never even sent to Null Space. Eggman redirected him to the Death Egg from inside Null Space. He even said so in the final cutscene. Also, the entire final boss was IN Null Space.
your not the only one who likes the aqua road waterslides. That was one of my favorite levels in the game because of that.
If more people like the devs of overclocked were in the ray an fandom, we would have already had our rayman 4, 5, & 6!
Nothing makes me click faster than Bickiribox posting a video. Of all the TH-camrs on this platform, this is the one I willingly watch and not just for background noise
I would if he didn't upload while I'm at work... I have to listen instead until I can get home to actually watch
I like how he still shows a lot of the bugs with the “Sonic breaking the laws of physics” without delving into it.
I don't know if someone mentioned it already. In the Mod manager in the mod config, you choose if you want vocals in the Avatar levels. They have slightly different lyrics, but it's mostly a cover
TNH Nebula did a fantastic job with some of the soundtracks.
new bickuribox video, new one-second-long bit to laugh at right when the video starts
Thia feels like a legit it's own game
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS MOD!!!!
You know, this... might actually convince me to get Forces. On heavy sale.
Dude I don't even care about sonic at all but this guy is so entertaining
