- While still at quarters of FDNY Engine 254 and Tower Ladder 153 at 901 Avenue U, we see the house as they scramble to run out for Box 3267 at Avenue S and East 22nd Street for a call of a fire in a multiple dwelling. Both companies were first due. Engine 321 and Engine 246 were 2nd and 3rd due engine companies respectively. Ladder 169 was 2nd due truck. Battalion 33 also responded. As it turned out, the call was for naught; it was a single family house which was reporting smoke coming from their dryer vent, which ended up actually just being steam that gets produced naturally when warm air hits cold air. Unfortunately, the family called it in as a fire. Oddly enough, about 5 minutes later, the same family called it in again, only to be told a second time that there was no fire. Not sure why this was an issue; most people have seen steam coming out of a dryer vent. Anyway, suffice it to say, it was still interesting seeing both companies screaming out of quarters. Engine 254 is a 2009 Seagrave Marauder II. Tower Ladder 153 is a 2010 Seagrave Marauder II with a 75 foot mid-mount Aerialscope. Enjoy the rapid response from both companies. Thats because it was for a report of a FIRE. So many of the tirnout vids you see are for 2nd due class 3 or gas leaks or some other BS run. Most companies turn out fast for structural FIRE runs.
I sure do miss living up north, while I didn't live in NYC I was across the bridge in Jersey, I traveled to NYC a lot and always loved seeing the Heroes of FDNY racing down the streets navigating through traffic and pedestrians it is a sight like no other in a city that to me is still THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD
