[RARE - 3 FDNY Fire Trucks in 1 House] E39 & E44 & L16

  • This is one of the situations that you won't see often: 2 engines and one truck responding out of the same fire house in NYC. Actually Engine 44's quarters were under construction at the time of the video so that they were housed together with engine 39 and ladder 16. And here you can see them all responding together, with engine 39 responding code 10-20 (modified response). In another video that I made a couple of years ago I could already catch 2 trucks and one engine responding together out of one house in Harlem.
Camera used for filming this : amzn.to/2wf0E3K

Dump the station. Was rare for us. But we would roll three engines, ladder, ambulance, brush truck and the chief's truck. Weird seeing the house totally empty. Scattered shoes hastily taken off around where bunker gear sat ready.

In many of the larger cities did this, back in the day. This was done when cops largely walked a beat, and it was cheaper for the city to build both building next to each other. In New York City, and many other cities are still using Stations 50 years old or older. As the case for FDNY, they have stations that only a Ladder Truck, or Engine. I know there are some cases where Engine and Ladder Companies are either back to back on the same block, or one is on one street and right around the corner is the other, or they had their houses built right next to each other at different times. NYC is one of the toughest places to get real estate to build more modern houses, not saying it doesn't happen from time to time. Yet they make due with what they have.

In general, I will never understand how pedestrians just walk past a fire station (particularly with the doors open) and not look to see if the apparatus is coming out for an emergency; just as people see/hear emergency vehicles coming towards them, with lights flashing and sirens sounding, and still try to/do step out from the curb. Yes, sometimes stations have warning lights to alert passersby and/or firefighters to be guides.
And I'm not even going to get into vehicles, motorcycles, bicyclists or scooters.
Thanks for your service public safety personnel!

I walked past fire stations not realizing that it was a fire station ... some just don't look like one, some might be tiny, others relatively large, and still blend in with any other building in the area, with roll-up doors to park garages and loading bays for shops

Yea its a mofo maneuvering any of the apparatus but especially backing. I'm my station I not only have to back them, but a couple of our trucks share bays side by side, so we have to back up straight and then at a 45° once inside the bay. . Lol. But it's badass to drive them =)

Good thing my station has five bays in total but the first three, which house the trucks, have the drive through bays while the last two don't. Luckily we store apparatus that aren't hard to back up. I feel bad for the people that have to back the apparatus into the bay. Especially a ladder.

Our HQ on Long Island has an engine, two squirts, a tower, heavy rescue and three ambulances along with special call units like dive team, brush truck and technical and high water rescue equipment coming out of the same house. Curious, did 39 go as modified on all of 44's runs or did they move 39 out of the way whenever 44 got an engine only call?

What is the meaning of having a lifesaver on deck gun?, I have seen it a lot on FDNY trucks.
    Greetings!

Were I am we rarely use the deck gun so its probably just a spot to keep the life preserver

Manhattan is an island surrounded by water. For various reasons, people sometimes unexpectedly find themselves in the water. Life saving rings can come in handy in such situations. Storing them on the deck pipe leaves compartment space on the rig available for other equipment.

Is that normal for american rigs?

Is there a reason why police station are often build next to fire stations? In every video of FDNY Trucks I see police cars , parking in front of the station ?

    • @TowMater603
      @TowMater603 6 ปีที่แล้ว

many times FD /EMS and a PD bound in one building , they'e called a 'Safety Complex'. All units roll out of a central location. of course this tactic is mainly used in Townships and/or Villages .

Relax guys, this is not the 1970's. This isn't 'Backdraft'. They're not responding to babies on fire in a 4-alarm 42nd story apartment. Probably a modified response, or chief already on scene, food on the stove already taken care of with a fire extinguisher, an automatic/false alarm at an abandoned building for the 126th time this year, or a kid fell off his bicycle and is in need of an ice pack.

FDNY* also, they use all of it. That's where they eat, sleep, shower, and more. They need space, as you see, it's not like there are 1 or 2 people, there's many.
