I used this stuff to do my sandblasted frame. It’s sticks to the metal really good. Even can’t get it off of my hands. Hope it will last for a long time
You have the patience of Job.
I have a similar job coming up and I am going to get medieval on it with my DeWalt grinder with a wire brush attachment. Then I am going to use your products.
Spot on, I have my Ram to do this summer. Just two years on the east coast, with less than 30k miles on her I have some work to do. I like your approach here, I'm going all out as well with the grinder and wire brush attachment. I was going to go one step further with Eastwoods Portable Sandblaster, for the ROI it might be the best option.
20 bones on a power washer and degreaser off camera, that surface was immaculate before coating.
......??
@@Jimmy_Cavallo He is saying that it looked so clean he would be willing to bet $20 that they used a pressure washer and degreaser, but didn't show it in the video.
@@johndamico1674 ohhhh… back in my day it was beans 👊🏼
Oh my! Not a little wire brush right out of the gate. Get that outside and hit with a pressure washer. Then spray degreaser, use a bristle brush and then pressure wash again. Then spray with soap and water, rub with a big bristle brush on a handle and then pressure wash again. Then dry with a leaf blower. This saves me hours.
💥 What’s the difference between the encapsulator vs the converter.??
I still like to remove as much rust as I can first and use an encapsulator after. I just do a basic job of removal though. A little bit of initial work goes a long way. Is a couple hours of grinding vs. 10 years of protection worth it? It is to me. This stuff looks amazing. I'm going to have to pick some of this up. Anyone want tp buy some implement paint?
he literally says that at the end of the vid, you can see he had done a good bit of prep work before he uses the encapsulator. this stuff is fantastic.
Wish I would of thought of using this, don't know why I didn't. Took three days rolling around the ground cleaning my diff and just spray painted it. Oh well
I bought both eastwood rust converter in a spray can an eatswood rust encapsulator in a spray can.
Can I use rust encapsulator over top of eastwoods rust converter? Will that be a waste of product or protect it more?
What do you use to clean up the brush after your done? Will regular paint thinner or mineral spirit's work?
Will spray on bed liners like Raptor liner adhere to this or is a primer needed on top of this first?
Since you painted the center of the axles, how do you plan on getting the drums off to service the brakes?
Its obviously for demonstration purposes.
It is obviously messed up! Eastwood has these videos out here as a how-to and a first time user will see this and do the same thing! Then they are screwed!
Can this be used over existng paint? Have a white flatbed with rust spots i want to paint black.
This is designed to go over rust or bare metal then top coated if in direct sunlight.
Do I have to sand after 48 hours to topcoat? Or can I just apply topcoat. It's a large are with nooks and crannies to sand
Eastwood Rust Encapsulator also acts as a primer for most coatings, including body fillers. For heavy rust, Eastwood recommends using the Rust Converter first, then the Rust Encapsulator to seal and prime the surface.
That’s what I’ll b doin this weekend. Thanks
Power. Washer. FTW. 5 minutes instead of 5 hours.
No doubt! Right?🤔
Simplifying a project, is one thing... painting a turd, well, that's just stupid!
Where's that boy's pride & workmanship? Oh, I get it... When those nooks & crannies start bleeding through and chipping away,... "No Worries, we'll be happy to sell you another gallon of that expensive stuff!😂😂🤣
Does this convert/ primer the rust? Can I use a converter/ primer first that will turn it black?
Do you have to top coat for UV protection?
Yes, if it will see the sun, it should be top coated for the best UV protection.
@@eastwoodco what do you recommend for a top coat?
@@307mtb any paint. your just preventing sun from degrading it
Only if you store your vehicle on its roof.
@@sibco96 lmao 🤣🤣 maybe he parks on mirrors all the time
Do you have to top coat it? Is it UV stable?
It should be top coated in direct sunlight applications.

Can this be used on brake lines that are still sound but have a rust coating? If not what can you recommend?
I wouldn't paint old brake lines with any gloss black paint. When one starts getting thin and wet from weeping you'll want to be able to see it.
I just want to thank Eastwood for selling me multiple gallons of their original black rust encapsulator at full price to a disabled ASE Master since 78, then 3 days after it arrived, I get an email for the improved silver rust encapsulator at a slightly cheaper price. While reminding me how much better the silver corrosion resistance value is, compared the product they sent me a few days earlier and for my own vehicle. My first and last one. Now, this is even better?
Perhaps I shouldn't get mad but I am pissed. Money was hard to save before Joe took office and now 3-4 times worse. Thanks Eastwood for selling me a cheaper low end product that is still sealed in the cans! Won't use it, won't buy more, matter of fact I won't buy anything from Eastwood. Not even a stick of gum. Thanks for nothing. Later, because I have a lot of people to tell my story to!
Do you have to paint over it to make it durable?
WurstExpress #616 you could but clean well . All this is used for is on heavy steal parts that see lots of heavy use and you don’t have to severely clean or sand prior to applying. In my opinion its industrial style paint protective. So painting will just be like coating for extra barrier but essentially same.
3 years old and just found this product. 😢 Do you already have a better version I haven't heard about😅
We have Rust Encapsulator Platinum which has 3x the protection of the original.
More info here:

@eastwoodco well Son of Aaaaaa... glad i asked. Ty🙏🙏
The platinum is a silver finish though.... The encapsulater plus (black) is out of stock
@@TouchofDepth good to know. Thank you
Does this only come in matte black.
Currently, that is the only color. Our original Rust Encapsulator is available in many colors in aerosol - www.eastwood.com/paints/rust-solutions/treatment.html
Also, Rust Encapsulator Platinum offers even more protection than plus and is available is silver - www.eastwood.com/paints/rust-solutions/treatment.html
Painted the cover shut?
Gotta stop those pesky leaks somehow, right?
Does this need to be reapplied every often, or is it a one time deal? What's the difference between this and say POR-15?
Same product different companies basically a I’ve used both and had great result with both. I kinda just buy what’s cheaper when needed.
It’s a painted surface so it won’t last forever but I’m going on 4 years with a por 15 Coated frame and a Eastwood coasted rear end I drive my truck year round in Washington state. They both look fine. No flaking or chips. The shine has started to fade but still looks great.
@@Zach-k2p Thanks for the feedback and good info, I appreciate it!
@user-tf5kr4qp2i you're saying you applied this over existing paint? I've been trying to find if thus can be done since I have a flat bed and tool box I want to do and don't want to go through the hassle of completely stripping it down to apply this.
Can it be used with a spray gun? Or do you have to paint it with a brush...?
Either or will work. If you're spraying it on, make sure to reduce it.
I used a dead cat to blot the paint on my studebaker frame. A friend of mine used a replica of the shroud of Turin to paint this on his edsel floors
Why did you paint the drums? They are consumable and they dissipate heat. Does painting them not compromise the heat release properties leading to breake fade/failure? That seems dangerous to do (especially by professionals). Please correct me if I am wrong.
Well the drums look much nicer when they're dissipating the heat
I would be more co corned with the rust issue than heat dissipation...I am sure if it got that hot, it would burn off...
Does it stop the rust totally underneath
As long as your prep work is correct, this will stop rust for years to come!
Will this work on a frame for a 1994 Ford Explorer? It just shows oxidation.
Sorry, it only works on Explorers up to 1992. In 1993, the international chemical formula for rust was fundamentally changed, rendering this remedy ineffective.
@@sibco96 Hahahaha this one made me laugh
Sorry explorers from 94 are impossible to paint. From 95 to present is fine tho.
@@maggs131 mine spent most of its life in California

Is this a coating or a rust converter?
This is a coating
Nice thanks
Nice
Is this available in white?

@@eastwoodco will I be able to paint my control arms and chassis with this
Looks like he painted right over all the oil leaks that were on the diff
Looked like degreaser and a pressure washer would have helped them scrape and paint.
Pressure washer & degreaser would have taken just as long if you factor in the the set- up and the mess it would create. Faster doesn't always mean better.
These demos are presented in the simplest way meaning someone who doesn't have or can't afford a pressure washer could do it. Plus what the previous comment said about setup being a pain in the ass
Looks just like POR-15 to me
This is just por 15 with a eastwood sticker on it
Terrible company!! Don't do business with these people! They will not treat you right@! I know from experience! Read their feedback ratings, before you buy something! It tell the story!
Fuck all that scrapping just sand blast it
Dont paint its damage
Paint= damage WTF ??? E X p l a I n please
@@bernhoog9114 don't bother dude lol
I'd be 70 times more Interested if the vague marketing ploy of 2x nothing actually gave me a idea of how long this lasts
We should have been clearer - it's 2x stronger than original rust encapsulator, which means it passed over 1,000 hours of salt spray testing.
Arent all paints rust encapsulators? I'm not seeing how this product is different than normal tremclad. You painted it black, big whoop. :(
Rust encapsulator seals the rust off from oxygen so it doesn't continue to rust. It's tested and holds up to 2000 hours of salt spray, which a normal paint will not do.
With a water pressure machine and rustoleum, I could do the same and cheaper 😄
😆
Ha ha ha and you can do it again next year and the year after that and the year after that. Real $$ saver there 🤣🖕
Pay for what you get
