Had my Nissan Skyline R34 GTR imported with grade "4.5" condition from japan, turns out the underside was rusty and had been painted over with black paint. Had a look at some DIY stuff and came across your video, just purchased myself some Rubberized Rust Encapsulator online (hard to find in australia!). Cant wait to use it! Engine and tranmission is out so should be a good time to rust proof everything. For those who are importing from japan, just remember the cars have been subjected to Tsunamis, Snow, Salty roads and etc... So a rusty underside is pretty much a given for a 15 + year old car no matter what grade its in!
That's not necessarily true. Japanese imports are generally almost rust-free. They don't actually use salt on the roads at all in winter, and the overall humidity in Japan is actually quite low, which is the main thing that stops corrosion. I imported my 180SX two years ago, and it had never had its underside given any treatment at all, and it only had very minor surface corrosion in a couple of places, which was easy to address before applying a proper undercoat. I've seen other, newer JDM imports (Integras, S15s, Evos etc) which had no rust at all, and still had their factory undercoating and paint in place.
thanks for another great vid. Have not used the internal frame coating before, but have a question. What happens if there is some organic matter or sometime small stones left in the frame that did not come out when it was waterblasted? If this gets "trapped" by the coating - could it rust? How would this compare to something like a wax/lanolin product?
I'm a huge fan of Eastwood products and am using Rust encapsulator platinum and internal frame coat on my 70 vert mustang. My one criticism w all of their videos is that you see these guys spraying these products without respirators on! These products are INCREDIBLY TOXIC and you should ALWAYS WEAR A RESPIRATOR like a full face P100 AG filter that's fresh. I am religious about shaving my beard and getting a great seal, which I test every time. Inevitably when I am working in upside down and tight spaces, I'll catch a whiff through the mask when my face contorts for a split second and for the rest of the day I'll feel spacey and have a headache. That's from a insanely tiny amount of exposure and in a well-ventilated space with a mask on. Albeit I am sensitive to these kind of things but be careful with these kinds of products. ALWAYS WEAR A RESPIRATOR and if you have a beard, shave it so it fits within the mask!!! The Rust Enc Plat is super noxious in particular. Great product though, but use it safely.
I have a 6' snow blade I use on my small tractor. I took off several coats of paint with 80 grit. There are numerous pinholes that I know have rust in them. What produst should I use and in what order. Thanks, Larry
@@eastwoodco was this done for the frame in the video? As you just show you spraying rust converter, leaving it to dry, and then spraying with encapsulator
Quick usage question (I have used both convertor and encapsulator on a restore). I have some fender panels I need to strip down but they have spot surface rust. If I use rust convertor on those spots, can I bodywork and primer over it ? I ask because of course, there will always be pitting and I will need to use body putty on the panels. Thanks in advance...LOVE the products...I am an Eastwood guy
I'm redoing my 20ft car trailer, it's pretty rusty but nothing severe. I want to use the rust ecapsulator platinum for the outside, curious how would I use the internal frame coating on such a large frame?
Are there holes or bolts that can be removed? If so, you can spray inside those. You will need them to be about 4" apart or a little closer to get complete coverage.
If you use rust converter or rust encapsulator on body panels, can you uses body filler over it ? In other words, if you are fixing a door for example, you convert the rust, you encapsulate, then want to do normal body work, is this okay?
Any problems spraying rust encapsulator over a mixture of painted and rusty surfaces? What prep would be involved in the painted areas. I'm looking at using it on my jeep frame, which only has rust in some spots. Can I still spray the whole thing?
Eastwood Rust Encapsulator can go over both. If the bare metal is clean and smooth, scuff it first with 220 for best adhesion. Do the same over the painted areas.

10:14 wouldnt it be good to use the converter still and just wipe it down so any rust that is still there gets handled?

the SCT drum that works the best for me was the brass wire drum, perfect for rust and cleaning , vaporized a large rust area

I need to use something for the interior as protection for the rust can you recommend what product to use.
Is the rust converter spray safe on clear coat or car paint?
would it be a good base for the rubber coat?
This stuff is great. I used it on my VW Bug chassis.
Any year later videos??? Do you have to reapply yearly??
Can you use the long conical sprayer hose on the rust encapsulator spray can?
I need those, do you have sellers in the Philippines or do you ship here?pls.
Why did you leave the pre paint to dry not wipe it off?

Do I need to or can I prime over the rust converter with say a self etching primer before I used the chassis black paint?
The 'vette frame originally had a Manual transmission which made it possible for the exhaust to get through those two holes in the frame cross member.
Can you paint rust encapsulator over top of rust converter?
Is it a waste of product an time or will it protect it better?
Yes, absolutely, wipe the part with pre painting prep before top coating, but that would be a sure fire why to stop rust in its tracks!

I have 2014 ram truck can I use the internal frame coat even if there’s possible salt in there.
Do you offer the injection
Looking to spray my existing frame in my 2500 Silverado..what do you recommend?? Some rust from plowing..
Doing my 97 chevy dually.... Sûre fan use that SCT !
I have one, I love the speed , works very well
Thanks! Keep those videos coming.

I do just this same thing with great results. Make sure the converter is cured .

Do I need to use a converter before the encapsulator ?
Always use OSPHO on rusted surfaces before priming.
JDOG 1974 what is OSPHO?
Would the two step process work on drums that are rusty? Rust converter and then rust encapsulator?
yes but do not use the rubberized on a brake drum
Can I weld after using rust converter since it leaves a chemical coating before I use pre and encapsulator?
You should sand or grind away the Rust Encapsulator in the area you will be welding, prior to welding.

Convert it, then do body work. The encapsulator you don't do body work on top of, its a top coat type product
When I sandblast my frame, I have 72hr to paint it. So which Product would be best for that?
If it's down to bare meta from blasting, try Eastwood Epoxy Primer. www.eastwood.com/paints/automotive-finishes/primers/epoxy.html
Eastwood Company
Awesome thanks
I’m getting so confused I don’t know what one is best or better than the other ugggh😱

How about a engine bay video with extensive rust using the products you would use.
Here's a video featuring an engine bay, and it focuses on all of the coatings. th-cam.com/video/sj2wd6pBC44/w-d-xo.html
I'll take the 396 engine from the Vette frame!

you have a video where you guys finished preparing a clean no rust floor and then you covered the whole floor with rust Encapsulator….
Where is Kevin Tetz?
Working on His own projects but still shows up at Eastwood on occasion. He is Everywhere!
Formula Firebird I loved his Project ZedSled. I was in the process of doing my 78' Trans Am and that tutorial was perfect.
Does this product helps against salt?i live in Chicago
Rust Encapsulator, Internal Frame Coat and Rubberized Rust Encapsulator should help.
Rubberized undercoating is death to a chassis

Junk! If this worked PPG and DuPont would have manufactured it 30 years ago!
I have some rust pits on chrome wheels... I want to clean off the rust and spray converter. Would it effect the chrome finish? Thks
