[[ Full Description ]]
Once a year there is a massive game development competition hosted by the TH-cam channel “Game Maker’s Toolkit”. The last few years my friends and I have made some incredible games together:
- A Drunk Thief
- Joining Forces
- In The Walls
But this year, and for the first time since 2018. I’m going at it alone. In addition to the tight time limit and massive size of the competition. I have the extra challenge of linking whatever game I make to an ongoing connected universe between all of my games. The pressure is definitely on
but thankfully this isn’t my first rodeo!

[[ About Me ]]
Hello! My name is Ian. I am a hobbiest game developer who uses the game engine Defold. I have made over 30 projects ranging in scope from a few hours to many months. Often times I work with my friends since I am a very lackluster artist, musician, and speller. This channel is geared towards game development logs (Dev-Logs) where I detail my process of building games.

Out of 6,829 games, I ended up getting: #194th in enjoyment and #575 Overall! Thank you all for the amazing support on this video and the game!
put damage on 0/3 and it legit turned into a clicker game lol
Lol yeah, I might add a 'hold to keep shooting' option since it does get a bit tedious at times!
@@BunchOfNerdsMakingGames or just put a time between clicks, otherwise clicking fast is too powerful
@@lunaponta594 Good idea! Thank you!
I'm glad to hear that someone managed to do self-care and go about their daily life while participating in a game jam while still coming up with something amazing! Great job!
Thanks! After 2021 I got extremely burned out doing game jams and a large part of it was I wasn't taking time to do self-care. I've definitely learned from my mistakes!
world's first game dev to enjoy going outside
Someone's gotta break the mold!
I found this video because apparently its recommending mine when people watch, very good watch good job man!
Fantastic entry! Great to see you managed to get it over the line, even with kicking your PC off.
Thanks! At first, I thought I may have lost upwards of an hour since I couldn't remember the last time I saved. Thankfully it was just a few minutes!
Awesome submission and devlog!
Thanks! I'm super happy with how the game turned out, especially since my friend's couldn't help this year!
Nice game man! And nice video too, gave me a good chuckle
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Such an interesting concept! There are of course some good games where you are the villain or where a genre is flipped (there was a really cool browser based game Villanious that was a reversed tower defense game). But I wonder if the premise can be fully executed while feeling satisfying and not frustrating. This brings up so many different fun things to think about!
For sure! I had a great time making this, I have gotten a ton of good feedback / suggestions. I'll see if I can find Villanious since that sounds like a really fun game!
A devlog that mentions going outside? This can’t be real
I'm still questioning if it's real myself...
"touch grass"
_pulls grass' hair_
Yeah, it was my first time. Wasn't sure how exactly to do it
good game, good video 😳
Thanks! I'm happy with how both the game and the video turned out!
wow a Defold dev in the wild 0.o Great jam idea and execution!
Thanks! I'm super happy with how the game turned out! I've only encountered one other wild Defold Dev myself!
You're a christian? Really cool that you're not afraid of showing that in your videos 💪🏿
Yeah I am! Faith is something super important to me. I've tried to make a few Christian games over the years to varying degrees of success. I have a devlog from earlier this year on one I made called "Armor of God"
@@BunchOfNerdsMakingGamesGreat video man! I also recently created something with the Armor of God... Not specifically a video game, but I 3D modelled Chess pieces and gave each one of them a piece of armor, which worked great as there are the same amount of armors as there are different chess pieces. I then 3D printed them and gave it to a friend as a birthday gift... Btw, the portal to hell isn't even that theologically off. In revelation, there will be evil creatures crawling out of a crack from the ground, which I imagine to be something similar to a portal...
@@triplezgames3882 That's awesome! I've wanted to get into 3D printing some but haven't gotten around to it yet. I've made a few games for friends as birthday gifts over the years. Definitely super special to make a personalized gift like that, you have a lucky friend!
I think that's Revelation 9:2-3 right?
@@BunchOfNerdsMakingGames Yeah totally, I could send you the 3D models if you're interested :) I've been 3D modelling for like 10 years, I can really recommend it!
Yea right, the bottomless pit...
That's a cool video for a cool game!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed both of them!
Hey, overall a very good product for the time you had :D
The whole idea was really interesting and the game really fun to play.
Some feedback if u decide to continue the project :
1) If u stand still and spam you just kill everything -> maybe add a dodge button / give more space to the player to move
2) The player during mid to late game feels too weak and too strong at the same time. I get it, that`s half the point of the game but maybe make the enemies a bit weaker but with more health and somehow punish the player from standing still -> make the enemies charge at you so he has to dodge/move or throw aoe spells
I believe that if you turn it from a game jam game to an actual fully built one, it would bring fresh air to roguelike community .
Either way cool project keep up the good work :)
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
I have an enemy designed who will throw a bomb where the player is standing to force the player to move. The AOE spells is a really good idea too, I'll see what I can do with that!
I'll also play around with rebalancing some, weaker enemies with more health might do the trick!
Dude the video is fire.
Don't know who you are but you just gain a subscriber.
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
4:09 Bro you have so much space for that extention cord, just put it somewhere else XD
I've had it like that for a year and this is the only time I've ever done that! I've learned my lesson and I'll definitely move it!
The concept reminds me of SINNER: Sacrifice for Redemption, though in that game you're not the bad guy (I think)
I'll try to check that game out! Thanks for the recommendation!
Damn you got a cake bro 😩
Probably why this video is doing so well ngl
duuude i finished the game on web, took me about 10 mins but i really enjoyed it. last level took me about 3 tries
if youre looking for criticism:
a) to go to the next line of dialogue, the player has to click specifically on the dialog box, which id really prefer if i could just click anywhere
b) wouldve been cool if there was a way to skip the dialog for the final fight happening over and over again
Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it! I'll try to add a skip button for the final dialog and play around with clicking anywhere for the dialog
hey I also didn't get sleep. lets goooooooooooooooooo. I also ran into a blue screen mid-development on my game. so that was fun. Very cool video
No sleep squad let's goooooooooooo! I do wonder how many people did get some sort of technical issue like a blue screen during the jam
Haven't played it (yet), but if it's simply your numbers being lowered, what's the difference between leveling down and enemies just becoming stronger? I guess you can choose which parts you'd be weaker in but doesn't sound particularly unique
Good observation! While mechanically similar it does feel a lot different to play. There's a psychology effect called 'loss aversion' where loosing something feels worse then gaining that same amount. While not unique mathematically it does feel different to play.
You need to publish that part at 5:00 as a yt shorts please, it was super funny
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll see if I can do that!
Got it uploaded as a short: th-cam.com/users/shortsqnB1iob9gxk
Looks great, looking forward to more gamedev videos 😁
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have the next video scripted and recorded, just need to edit it!
