- What makes a poem relatable? By examining how we have been conditioned to judge our personal stories as insignificant, poet Olivia Gatwood brings to light the value in the seemingly mundane, and its potential to connect us to thousands. Olivia Gatwood is a nationally touring poet, performer and educator from Albuquerque, New Mexico. As an advocate for Title IX Compliant education, Olivia travels nationwide, speaking at colleges, universities, middle and high schools, educating young people about consent, body image, sexism in the media, and poetry as a tool for social justice. Olivia's work has been featured on HBO, Verses & Flow, and The Huffington Post as well as Muzzle Magazine, Winter Tangerine, and Tinderbox, among others. She has been a finalist at the National Poetry Slam, Women of the World Poetry Slam, and Brave New Voices. Olivia firmly believes girl power, specifically that of teen girls, and has spent the majority of her career working to create spaces where young women feel validated, represented and empowered to exercise their voices. She is the author of Amazon bestseller, New American Best Friend. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. have lived for this --the day I find Olivia Gatwood and a ted talk in the same video.
I’ve always admired her as a poet when she talked about seeing poets perform at 16 and them being like magicians that’s what she was to me and all of poetry club really and that’s why I joined but was and am still too shy to keep it going. Never stopped writing though (:
She is so gorgeous. I admire her so much! Her posture, ability to annunciate and articulate, make me want to portray more confidence. Gorgeous!
I love her. Even her talk is like poetry. Whenever she said 'this' I felt like she would start reciting the owl.
I actually just spent a hour laying outside my friends bathroom door attempting to talk her through it.
She makes my cry, i still think she started a revolution in me and everytime i comeback to the videos i used to watch i keep seeing what changed, what i learned and how different i am. Thanks so so much Olivia, Blythe Baird´s and Olivia´s poems are the backbone of my pride of womanhood
..yikes. she was like "let see what we have in common with our first kiss stories" and i was like haha my first kiss was a guy i met at a party when i was 18 so i could get it over with and then she talked about margot and i just AGE SIX MEMORY: UNLOCKED
so kyla, if ur out there: thanks for the treehouse kisses lmaoooo
I like this "We find each other in the details of another's story"

I think this piece is relatable no matter the age; Olivia Gatwood has a gift with that. I might be older, but this artist has definitely helped me along the way. Thank you, Olivia Gatwood.
I remember the first time I heard Olivia tell the tampon story and it still stays just as hilarious and important
This video is a gem. What an amazing message to share - to find human connection in the details. Will definitely look up more of her work!

Eun Sol Cho button poetry ....is where to find them
Ótima tradução para o português!
Idk why the audience was laughing at the beginning poem, it was serious in my eyes but I guess it's up to their interpretation...love this talk though!
Olivia's always been great at adding comedic tones to her serious poems. She wants you to laugh at certain points.
That, and many laugh when uncomfortable, and talk of menses makes people uncomfortable.
its serious but funny. like its the most serious thing in the world when ur a girl age 13 but then ur 21 and just like... wow we were kinda ridiculous huh
but its not ridiculous at all of course, its just growth and a change in priorities and things that are "serious"
does anyone know which of Guante's poems was she quoting? thank you so much!
I wish I had known about this I might have gone to see it.
I Love you!
i would like to hear spoken word from her one day at my job or program
La historia del tampón me hizo recordar la primera vez que me puse uno exactamente por una amiga que me decía que era mejor y no importaba si eras virgen opd !
How does this have so few views??
maybe because it's been only 9 days since day upload this here, but I hope she will get thousands of views
This sort of autoplayed/I'd clicked unintentionally and then the screen faded afterwards. Slightly freaky/suggestive of something more curious. There was lots that was potentially relevant and helpful right now.
Cool
I am a Jordan n she didn't pass out
How old is olivia? cant find it anywhere! so curious tho
26 i think
this poet i dont think i remember seeing her in politics and pros
Gatwood's poems are artistically awesome - but her basic premise is to conflate "Girlhood" and "shame". To me, that's corrosive.
That's actually really weird?
