I’ve been a fan of Porsche since my early years. What really got me purchasing the Boxster over 911 was a statement I read somewhere “Boxster/cayman is a platform Porsche wants to make. 911 is a platform Porsche have to make”
@@foxlake6750 yep. The GT3 911s (the race ones, not the road versions) are mid-engined. Also they have some other 718 features like flatter headlights.
Great review! I love my 718 , my weekend drives couldn’t be any more fun! 911 is still an icon but getting too big and overly bloated in size and price. Save the money and enjoy the true drivers car!
Yup! Got the Cayman T and a stage 2 with downpipe Kline innovation and cat sport 200 cells. Sound so good and now 384 horsepower. It s a no brainer choice, 718 all day every day!
718 is my choice. Keep 19in wheels and it is a GT car. Wind control of the Boxster is better too. Very quiet cockpit. Love both though the 911 is bigger than I need.
"Or, maybe you want to annoy your neighbors", "every lane change is pure fun", "wake me up, what's going on". Thomas is the best. I just love watching his reviews. His humor, candor, and enthusiasm are spot-on. And as a 718 owner for the last year, I can thoroughly attest to the description of the car Thomas uses most: "Wow".
Wow! Well done, Thomas. That was a brave verdict. Objectively speaking, I'd go with the 718 as well. I'd also recommend getting a 981 series car used. 90% of the technology but with the normally aspirated flat-6. Both are great generations of the same concept. The 911 is of course the most iconic, but at an incredibly high premium nowadays. Unfortunately, Porsche has decided to take the 911 into the Aston Martin direction in terms of prestige over accessibility to the "average" buyer. I think you summed it up best when you said that you'd take 2 of the boxsters instead of the one 911 based on price. Of course, as a Cayman 981 owner, my comments are a little biased. ; ) Keep up the great work!
I’m down with you, 981 Spyder here. Not only is it a head turner, but guys actually compliment the car when I’m getting in or out when parking. I loved my 987 S as well, 144,000 miles of smiles on that one.
@@clu4u Wow! 981 Spyder! I missed out on a Speed Yellow 981 Spyder but have a 981 GTS. I'm sorry to say the 718 is not a patch on the 981. I had one as a courtesy car from my OPC and couldn't wait to bring it back. It sounded asthmatic and even worse the faster you go. I would have hated myself if I got one. The 981 GTS.... Awesome! Even the 911, the best ones are upto the 991 Gen 1, not after. Drove a 2022 911 on Saturday and was very underwhelmed, my pal who owned it could not believe the sound and the way my GTS drove. I had to pry my keys of the guy! 🙂
I agree that it was brave of Thomas. I also agree with the verdict, objectively speaking, even though I dislike the 2L 718 (I could live with the 2.5 if I had to). Best bang for the buck is certainly the 981 S. IMO, the premium for the 981 GTS is too much, but great car. However, for me, I think the 911 991.1 S/4S is the best bang for the buck 911, and is my personal preference. Still modern, yet classic, still relevant. 981 still modern and relevant, too, IMO. I do like the 992, but I agree that its price premium is hard to justify versus the 718, especially vs the 4L variants. Nonetheless, when compared with cars for the same money, the 992 range still represents good value for money.
Great review Thomas. I bought my 718 Boxster S after watching your review last year. One year later, I love the car so much. It's really fun to drive with great handling. I always have a big smile every time I'm driving it.
Thomas, e Even as an owner of a 911. I totally agree with you. I won't be replacing my 911 with another 911. I have to say it will be a Cayman GTS. It is just so much more fun to drive.
Seth Branam@ +1. .. Agreed. .. The last of the 6cly Cayman's, say model S or GTS,, is this 911 Carrera S (993) owners way forward. .. Mein Frau's early Boxster S showed the way. .. A mid-decade Cayman GTS all the way. . . .Make mine silver metallic over Full leather black. .. I'm taking the 993 for a neighborhood spin right now - nothing finer. Cranking up the Stones Jumping Jack Flash tune on the 993's very stealth Dynaudio/P99RS stereo.... Uber stealth the Dyn's are . . .
Thomas; your conclusion is the same as mine. Recently replaced a pristine 993 Cab. with a 718 Boxster GTS. What an amazing car. It's capabilities far outshine my own. (And I'm NOT afraid to put miles on it.)
I've always enjoyed how you two guys have always had a chill style in content, dialogue and video editing - your videos are both informative and relaxing. And this one at 56 plus minutes - fantastic.
First and foremost, your reviews are brilliant Thomas! Love the enthusiasm. :) Apologies if this was mentioned but the T has Sport Chrono as standard. It's essentially a GTS with a 2.0, IMHO. Keep up the great work!!!!
Fewer and fewer people choose to make car reviews in detail nowadays...Really happy that I find this channel! Ich drücke dir die Daum! Und vielen Dank!
Excellent comparison/review. I took delivery of a new 2019 Cayman 8 weeks ago. Just clocked up 2000 miles tonight. I am more than pleased with my purchase. The 911 is outside my price range so very interesting comparison for me as I cannot compare both myself. Thank you.
The same goes for me : I have a 718 Boxster. Would love to have a 911 but also out of my price range. I would like to test the 992 as well (I will do this once the manual gearbox is out), but I must say the Boxster is a superb car. I don't think you get more fun in the 911 for that extra money...
Same here. I have the 981 Boxster S. The sound of this engine is sooo nice. The 911 was out of my price range. Driven the new 992 carrera. Fast car and a lot of tech.
I’ve had two 997 C2S cabs, one 997 C4S cab, and I’m on my 3rd Boxster S (718 2.5L). I prefer the Boxster platform because it makes me look forward to driving. Just more fun. All cars were/are manuals, btw.
I’ve driven 911, Boxster, and Cayman. The handling limits of the mid-engine layout are so high that it feels like a momentum car. You just don’t seem to need much power to turn low lap times. That said, the 911 feels like a car that has been getting better for 6 decades. It sounds, drives and feels like a flagship car. Brutally quick, but feels so competent and solid, like acceleration is just a minor talent. You can cover distances with almost no effort or fatigue. The controls are so precise in each car. If you want to effortlessly tour, get the 911. If you want to feel the speed, get the 718.
Phenominal video in 1080p 60fps. Please keep filiming in this resolution and frames per second it looks so crisp on my 1080p phone screen its unreal. Also please keep doing these really meaningful and comprehensive videos like this. I always watch the ads regardless and thumbs up the video. My favourite car channel on all of youtube for sure, you guys are very professional. 2 drivers and a separate cameraman it seems all with multiple cockpit cameras. Watching from London, thanks again.
Last September I had a choice of a 718 Cayman S MY2018 or a 911 Carrera 4S MY2016. Same mileage, same price, both PDK. Both myself and my wife concluded the 718 was the car we wanted to drive, so we traded in my Mustang GT for the 718 CS. Makes me look forward just to drive to the supermarket!
2:28 The 911 with the roof down, from the side is not really a beauty, exterior wise I prefer the 718 Boxster, except for the rear lights. That new design of the rear lights of the 911 are fantastic. Great video as always Thomas.
Original 911--ignition key left of the steering column so that drivers could jump into the cockpit and start the car instantly while doing so. Modern 911--wait 10 seconds for the infotainment system to boot. What irony. Great review, demonstrating that the 718 is now the real Porsche, staying more true to the philosophy of a lighter, nimbler sports car.
Great review. I always liked the idea of the boxster but was just too slow for me. I have been driving my 911 4s for the last 6 years and have loved it! When the new 718 came out it sealed the deal for me. I ended up with a 718 bs, performance runs rings around my older4s and its just so good everywhere in all mods and all conditions. Totally agree with you and look fwd to taking it out every chance l get. Keep up the good work.
Well done on your comparison! The 911 has gotten so big I keep thinking it's almost like the coupe version of the Panamera. LOL. Both cars are great but I've noticed Boxster drivers often have a big smile on their faces where 911 drivers seem a little more stern/serious. Hmmm? I wonder who is having more fun?
Those serious people having a hard time to smile must be that generation from the 80's where stonefaces were supposed to look cool. I never cared, so I smile to my surroundings, and yet I'm not always rewarded. I feel sad for such persons.
I walked into the dealership to buy a 911, drove the boxster and it was so much fun as compared to the 911 and the mid engine was felt more stable around turns...bought a boxster..
@@equitypersonnel4760 Top choice mate- from Australia! enjoy. I ummmm "enjoyed the blurry scenery" chasing one on a vee twin 1000 sports bike and the damned little thing was a legend in the tight stuff. Oh - I went Audi SQ7 recently. look it up. Take care from Oz
Agree about the looks of this 2020 911, it looks like it's gravitating toward being a touring car. If I bought a 911, I'd get a used 2019 or 2018 with low miles. I don't like the 2020 version at all. This video and comment section has got me leaning toward a Cayman/Boxster.
Both are real porsches. I have the 981 Boxster S. It sounds amazing. It is a fun car to drive. Driven the 992 carrera. It is sooo fast. Nothing is more fun than a mid engine car. 😉
@Joe H I payed 55k$ for it here in Sweden. 3000kilometers. It has SportChrono Plus package, Porsche Sport Exhaust, Pasm, Pdls, Padm. That's the price for a well equipt 981 S.
My experience on boxster 981 :two weeks ago, 500km,mountains and ordinary road, no motorways at all, my back felt totally ok, no pain. I am 1,80 meter, 77 kg.
@Riccardo Leonardi 20 pollici. Sedili sport in pelle forata.
Long time 911 owner. The new 911 has been made to be like a MB SL. From my test drive of the new 992 it is a ghost of what it once was. My issue with the new 992 is it’s just too big. The new 911’s look fat and obese instead of muscular. It’s huge compared to the air-cooled 911’s and lots bigger than the water cooled 996/997 yet there is no more usable space? The Cayman is really the best drivers car but Porsche will never let the Boxster/Cayman advance beyond the 911 and that is why Porsche has become their worst enemy. Build materials in the new 992 is cheap and Porsche’s option list and prices are ridiculous even by Porsche standards. The center console design is a train wreck and the square robot penis gear shifter is not helping. You can forgive these shortcomings in the SUV and Panamera models but now they have infected the 911 line. Ugh.. The 911 is now way overpriced for what it is and how it is built. I am replacing my 911 with a “M Car”. The review as always is the best online. You are professional and look at a car the way a experienced owner would. Great job.
Thank Mystro, great comments. When you say M Car do you mean the BMW M-cars? Is a BMW M anywhere close to a Porsche. To me, seems to be sporty saloon only?
The back of the 911's and Cayennes are quite fat and ugly. The rear looks like it was designed with help from Lincoln. I am currently getting used to a 991S cabriolet which feels quite large but very enjoyable with the sport exhaust and powerful enough to spin the rear wheels even after it is moving at 30mph.. I just switched from a 9974s. Yes these are the best reviews on youtube. For daily use i have an overpowered tuned S4 which is my favourite car.
Excellent review! Not often we see the 911 and 718 head to head. There is a (false) perception I think sometimes that 911 buyers don't cross-shop with the 718. On a side note, I find it incredible that it takes that long for the infotainment screen to warm up. Any Ford or Honda would be instant on. And "weak battery" from just using the PCM? Are you kidding? Hopefully Porsche will iron these bugs out soon. No way is that acceptable in a 150K car.
Thank you for your review. I'm a fourth generation base coupe Cayman owner since 2016. With absolutely no options but model designation delete, the car always delivers. The only modification I made was to chip it to 365 hp and replace the exhaust with FabSpeed.
Hello Thomas! This was a great video. At the end of the day you can get two 718 cars for less than one 911. It's an easy decision. I drive my 718 Cayman every day and often for 3 or more hours in one trip - I find it very comfortable, so I don't (personally) agree about the seats. The main thing is that it is HUGE fun to drive. And 35 mpg! And with the boot space in the front and the rear, I can do a weekly shop for the whole family too. I think it is a truly great car. I know it is a 4 pot but I am OK with that. It sounds good to me. And I can annoy the neighbours :-)
This report was very helpful as I'm on the verge of replacing my Cayman of 2016 and the last of its breed, a 6-cyl natural aspirated engine for a 992 Carrera. After this report, I will keep my Cayman. The dream is to see the 718 GT4 new 4-litre natural aspirated engine replacing the 2.5 litre 4 cyl in the current GTS.
Good discussions there - but agree with Thomas. I like the 718's speedy go-kart effect, but not the rough ride. Or price! Good Car Wash joke though! 39:11 brave guy pulling out in front of a 911 - kudos to Thomas's usual calm driving reaction! 42:19 was that a complaining cyclist! That rough road at the end for the 911, is smooth compared to UK roads! Many thanks Thomas.
I think the Boxter would be all the car I need given the price difference and the fact that I love in a country with speed limits, even the entry level Boxter is excessive in terms of performance. I'd probably be using the car as a weekend/summer toy for quick blasts or maybe a short break away to somewhere nice with the wife. I like 911's but my head would overrule my heart.
Great video. I have had a 2019 Cayman S for about 7 weeks now and I can't love it enough. I agree the front end of the 911 looks much better, but it was really out of my price range anyway.
Have a look at the Boxter-Cayman between the years 2013 > 2016 (second generation). Observe the headlights are mor 'standing up' in comparision with the earlier iterations and the 718 range. The whole front looks more agressive.
Exceptional review! Great job with thorough reviews of practically all elements of the vehicles. I appreciate the comparison done here and the honesty of assessment that is not clouded by the prestige of the more expensive car. They are both beautiful sports cars but I would agree that the 718 is the winner.
Another terrific review Thomas. I am in the market for a new sports car and my short list (718 GTS 4.0, 911, and 2020 Corvette) just got shorter. The 911 is out of the running so now it is between the 718 and the Corvette.
I drove the 718-Boxster for 42000 km in past 2 years. The 992 CS cabrio I drove it till now for 13.500 km. Both are great machines. Drove many mountain passes in both and some great open autobahns. You simply can not compare the cars in what they are and what they can do. Yes the 992 exceeds the the 718 in price twice, but the drive fun/feeling/comfort/speed/behaving of the 992 exeeds the 718 at least twice as well, and that I can say after the just 13000 km. The 718 gave me lots of fun, the 911 is a real monster and gives amazing fun. You just need to make sure you use the horse powers to the max. After these 13000km I have my first tire change 😎 so what ever you choose, use it to the max and it will give you great joy 👏👏👏👏
Thanks Thomas for your great review. I drove my 718 Cayman from Munich to Switzerland, and I had a great driving experience in Germany without having to worry about speed limits and radars. Just to note that the fuel consumption rocketed and the brakes pad smells a little bit when braking at 190 km/h. Thanks for the review Greets from Spain.
The GTS gains the more instant low end punch, better for realistic daily driving country roads or towns; loses the better sound of the 4.0. I think Porsche designed the 2.5 litre not primarily for economy/emissions reasons, but for the utility of not having to get to higher revs for everyday driving conditions. Better driveability 99% of the time. And they both have near equal 4.0/4.5 - zero to 60 times auto/manual. As with the 911 vs Boxster, it's the status of the 4.0 vs. better driveability of the 2.5.
its because of the particulate filter. The 991.2 carreras sounds amazing. If you listen to a gcc spec 992 without the GPF it sounds much much better and aggressive.
Hi Thomas. In my 718 you also have a smartphone connection in the glovebox. Just to let you know. As for the rest : always enjoyable and complete videos; keep up the good work, I enjoy it !
Had an 2007 Cayman, 2011 Boxster Spyder and now a 2019 911 Turbo Cabriolet. All were fabulous cars love every one of them. 911 is an unbelievable car. Can't go back to the Boxster/Cayman now!
Excellent review and comparison. If money was no object I’d still go for the Cayman, but then I am biased as I have a 2019 718 Cayman. I can say that the ‘standard’ basic sports seats are in fact very comfortable on long runs.
Just got a brand new 991.2 Carrera base model (yes a half-year after 992 launching). I’ll say style wise 991.2 is perfect for me, IMHO it will age better than 992. I choose 911 for its relative GT quality against 718, its perfectly maneuverable yet I am not a real enthusiastic driver😂
Gene King I agree. I have two Porsche’s. A Macan S 2017 and old 987 Boxster. Had 4 Porsches in total. I cancelled a 718 GTS Cayman purchase last summer as pulling out of the dealership it sounded like a go cart. The 4 cylinder 718 sound is absolute shit.
Excellent comparison ! Thank you for that. I did buy a boxster because I love convertible. I am extremley surprised by the ability of the car to stick to the road in the curves. My wife experienced the car as well and was so amazed by the fact that this 718 is "easy" to drive. Primarily she would have preferred the 911...because of the original Porsche look.
You did it very complete job of an unbiased review of these two cars. All the content was needed and the video flowed very well for being almost an hour long. Wonderful job! I'm a 911 guy but have recently purchased an 981 Cayman for all of the same reasons you outlined in your comparison. The price to value component is clearly in favor of the Boxster/Cayman platform. In America, the 911 has become just too snobbish for my liking... Great job!
j Liu Agree 718 is the best handling car I have ever driven....going around the curve, you must pay attention to speed because I got a speeding ticket coming out of a 45 mph curve at 75 .
I have only driven my 99 boxster base with 47,000 miles on her but between these two the boxster definitely is the better looking p-car in the front or rear......And after seeing your review I think I have made the right choice.
I get that the 911 is a dream car for many people…..I’ve driven both at Porsche track days and the Boxster/Cayman is more fun. Also, on the track the Boxster/Cayman gives more confidence and easier to drive fast. The performance between a Boxster/Cayman and a 911 at the track was not as great as you would expect.
180K is laughable did you forget to raise the rear screen on 911? 718 is best choice easily, and if you invest in spyder edition, you will not lose money at all and 718 sounds very good for a turbo 4-cylinder engine
Nice video Thomas - like always! Think a more suitable comparison today would be Cayman/Boxster GTS 4.0 against Carrera 911 base model ! Ansonsten weiter so !
Thank you for the great and thorough review. I totally agree. 911 has to compete with the super cars like Lamborghini or others, and have to be on the top of the list of the Nurburgring challenge n as a result, it needs to attract the rich people. That’s why it needs more power, needs to be bigger, and be more luxurious. 718 don’t have that pressure. It can concentrate on pure driving experience. So as a result, which is more fun to drive? It’s a pity for 911, because it started as a pure sports car.
HI Thomas, I brought a used Cayman GTS 2018 with 10 k miles. It was in perfect condition and looks like new. It was loaded with every possible option and stickered for 107 k I paid 72 and love it. I only regret is it has the PDK... I like it fine but miss the manual.
Great review, bravo! I was looking for a comparison between the 718 and the 911 just to convince even more myself on my choice as I got a 718 S last year. I have never experience such handling on this car category, it is orgasmic. Thanks for the review
Thomas, the 912 looks cheap on the inside, and awkward. I liked a lot more the classic interior of the 911. That black plastic trim makes it look cheap...
Thomas, apologies as I am very late to the party here but I wanted to say this is very well done. Very compelling argument and very professional quality of production. Cheers from Atlanta!
Good job. Talking more a little about the suspension and ride experience in both units in each mode gives us more idea of the comfort vs performance and the balance vs road conditions how different conditions will feel. Thanks again great job I’ll take two 718’s his and hers for the price of the 911!
Excellente comparaison.
Great video! I like the 718 because it is a light, sharp sports car and because of its decent cargo capacity! But my personal preference is with the 911 because its Flat-6 sounds much better and its overall design looks better, inside and out! And cargo-wise, the 911's rear seats are truly multi-purpose!
I have to say that I own a '17 Cayman S and I'm very pleased with your comments and conclusions. The 911 is a fabulous Porsche but has evolved into a semi sports car, gaining bulk and is now more of a boulevard cruiser. To me, the Boxster/Cayman series are truer to the Porsche history of light efficient sports cars. One final thought for you 911 people, why has Porsche now gone to mid-engine for the new 911 RSR's that will make their racing debut in January 2020?
Love the 718 also the USA price w the some (not much in option) goes up to $ 85.000 it can go over $100.000 its kind off crazy how the material costs. Anyway love the 718. Great review!!
Chia-Hung Lin I would hold off till the 6 cylinder returns or get a 981 model I cancelled a 718 GTS Cayman purchase last summer as when driving slowly through the dealer car park the engine sounds like a go cart. Absolute shit.
shelloiluk Thanks for the advise. Honestly I am in Taiwan and Porsche price here is crazy high. Boxster base model without any option, the price is already equal to the latest 992 in the US (100K US dollar). For me, buy a Boxster is more like a sports car dream comes true rather than driving things. Can’t afford Porsche higher level than Boxster.......
@@shelloiluk maybe because you didn't use the Sport mode, which gives you the real Porsche experience. Sound changes The newest 6 cylinder only use 3 cylinders at low speed, rpm, so worse sound, believe me
911 became the victim of it's own success and popularity. Porsche capitalizes on it and keeps adding to 911 to make it more desirable. However this causes the car to distance itself from the 911 essence - small, light compact sports car. Shocking how tiny the first generations are, even the early 90s ones. I'll personally wait the things/prices to cool down and go for a 718 in few years. Great car, I tested it and love it(love the raw 4cyl engine sound, cockpit atmosphere). However in the meantime there is the C8 Corvette that will be out with great performance at a comparable price. Rests to be seen, great competition. The car enthusiasts are the winners. Last years before the electrification will be some hot ones. Great thermal engine cars/deals will be out there. Cars to buy and keep to enjoy forever.
Great review, I'm about to replace my BMW M4 Competition with a 718 Cayman GTS in Carmine Red (PDK). Hope I don't live to regret it, I'm sure I won't as it will be my first Porsche ever having had several ///M Cars. Looking forward to driving a true sports car! :)
Thomas mentions the Miata... I've owned the new generation and it handles well, but the Miata seats are horrible. They saved a few pounds by cutting seat weight (cut comfort)... There is no comparison the 718 for a four hour trip. But hey the Miata does handle well, especially for the price. I have a 718 S that we take to the mountains with friends who own 5 or 6 911s (all the way up to a GT2 RS)... After a trip through the "Tail of the Dragon", he bought a 718S... I think he has a Cayman GT4 now... but hey the basic concept here is that my $90K 718S convinced him that it was more fun on a mountain road than a 911 Turbo S at over $200K... The 718 is by far the most fun of any car I have ever driven... The steering is close to telepathic. As Thomas said "... any curve at almost any speed..."

I’ve been a fan of Porsche since my early years. What really got me purchasing the Boxster over 911 was a statement I read somewhere “Boxster/cayman is a platform Porsche wants to make. 911 is a platform Porsche have to make”
Oh last lines damn!
What a comment 😮❤!!!
Jay Leno said something similar…..if Porsche had the chance to start over with the 911, it would be mid engine.
@@foxlake6750 yep. The GT3 911s (the race ones, not the road versions) are mid-engined. Also they have some other 718 features like flatter headlights.

My favourite car reviewer, so in depth, I love all his reviews, a real cool guy.
👌👌
I got my GLC43 Merc 2017 because of his review. And now second time GLC43 2020. Looking at 992 now.
👌🤗
Cool man :)
When I bought my Cayman S, I was sold the second I started the car and continue to enjoy every moment behind the wheel!
2019 Boxster S and love it. Great daily 9 months of the the NC year
The 2.5L in the S is a vastly superior power unit vs the 2L.
Thomas, e
Even as an owner of a 911.
Uber stealth the Dyn's are . . .
I replaced a 991 Carrera s with a 718 cayman GTS for those reasons exactly
Tim Salthouse did the exhaust note feature into your decision? Does the sound of the 718 gts engine bother you at all?
Tim ,
That’s fantastic. I will be doing the same with my 991.2 Carrera S also.
nlaul if it does, get the GT4 ;)
Thomas; your conclusion is the same as mine. Recently replaced a pristine 993 Cab. with a 718 Boxster GTS.
What an amazing car. It's capabilities far outshine my own. (And I'm NOT afraid to put miles on it.)
👌👌
I've always enjoyed how you two guys have always had a chill style in content, dialogue and video editing - your videos are both informative and relaxing. And this one at 56 plus minutes - fantastic.
thanks so much, keep recommending :)
I prefer the minimalist, smaller, lighter and less complicated 718. 911s have become bloated and overengineered.
Same
First and foremost, your reviews are brilliant Thomas!

@@autogefuehl Will do!
flawless review. both models look STUNNING and ICONIC in their own way. keep it up Thomas. the force is still in you
Excellent comparison/review.
Hats off to your bold and honest comment going with the 718 over the “ICON” 911! Great video, thank you!
🙏🙏 feel free to share 😎
Watching from London, thanks again.
thanks Ryan!!
😎
How was the swap to the Porsche from the mustang? I’m in the same boat with a GT PP2.
2:28 The 911 with the roof down, from the side is not really a beauty, exterior wise I prefer the 718 Boxster, except for the rear lights. That new design of the rear lights of the 911 are fantastic. Great video as always Thomas.
appreciated!
I agree with Thomas’s conclusions. Perhaps the ultimate combo is MX5 and GT4.
Almost have ultimate combo Mx-5 and 718 Boxster. Believe me Mx-5 is more fun to drive.
Cheers and enjoy =)
@Bat Dimen ... "coupe version of the Panamera!"
Hide your identity or you will soon be in a 911 re-education camp.
Thank you Autogefühl for shooting in 60fps. Adds so much clarity to the videos and really sets your content well above other TH-cam auto content.
Thanks!! We intentionally did that because especially our American viewers requested that
Both are real porsches.
It is interesting - all those complaints about the 4cyl 718 engine sound. Yet now, with the dampeners on the 911, the 718 sounds better !
Great job.
thanks so much for the profound feedback!
Great commentary Mystro TY! As a long time 993 owner I totally agree on the oversized recent 911s.
For daily use i have an overpowered tuned S4 which is my favourite car.
i am relatively new to this channel and i must say its pure gold. Thank you
Welcome!!
I RESPECT this man, True German journalist for German cars. PERFECT !
Cheers!
For 911 money, you should get a Cayman T for the track/weekend and a Boxter Spyder for everything else.
agree 100% the Spyder is gorgeous as well as an excellent sports car. the one mod would be changing the long 2nd & 3rd gearing.
Thank you for your review. I'm a fourth generation base coupe Cayman owner since 2016. With absolutely no options but model designation delete, the car always delivers. The only modification I made was to chip it to 365 hp and replace the exhaust with FabSpeed.
Thanks and enjoy!
Great to hear you can mod the 981 cayman. Was it the base or the S model?
Hello Thomas! This was a great video. At the end of the day you can get two 718 cars for less than one 911. It's an easy decision. I drive my 718 Cayman every day and often for 3 or more hours in one trip - I find it very comfortable, so I don't (personally) agree about the seats. The main thing is that it is HUGE fun to drive. And 35 mpg! And with the boot space in the front and the rear, I can do a weekly shop for the whole family too. I think it is a truly great car. I know it is a 4 pot but I am OK with that. It sounds good to me. And I can annoy the neighbours :-)
thanks James!
Fantastic review, so comprehensive. I was close to buying an F-Type this year, but now moving toward a 718. This review was really fantastic.
Did you get one?
Haha funny i boufht both. A 981 boxster s and ab f type v6 s convertible
Which one do you like more?
Great review as always, I have no issues with my 981 GTS so it is here to stay. Which ever you get, 981, 718, 911 you will have a blast.
I was looking forward to a video comparison of those two models for quite a while. Well done, Autogefühl-Team!
good to hear from you, all the best =)
Good discussions there - but agree with Thomas. I like the 718's speedy go-kart effect, but not the rough ride. Or price! Good Car Wash joke though! 39:11 brave guy pulling out in front of a 911 - kudos to Thomas's usual calm driving reaction! 42:19 was that a complaining cyclist! That rough road at the end for the 911, is smooth compared to UK roads! Many thanks Thomas.
=)
I think the Boxter would be all the car I need given the price difference and the fact that I love in a country with speed limits, even the entry level Boxter is excessive in terms of performance. I'd probably be using the car as a weekend/summer toy for quick blasts or maybe a short break away to somewhere nice with the wife. I like 911's but my head would overrule my heart.
That LAVA ORANGE, I'm in love. I have never seen it in person though, from the videos it looks just stunning in the sun.
Great video, very useful and fun to watch. Gonna buy a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 manual 😎.
Exceptional review! Great job with thorough reviews of practically all elements of the vehicles. I appreciate the comparison done here and the honesty of assessment that is not clouded by the prestige of the more expensive car. They are both beautiful sports cars but I would agree that the 718 is the winner.
Highly appreciated! Please recommend ☺️
Best car review video on youtube yet . both are my all time favorite car models 😍
Thanks 🙏 please share 😎
Another terrific review Thomas. I am in the market for a new sports car and my short list (718 GTS 4.0, 911, and 2020 Corvette) just got shorter. The 911 is out of the running so now it is between the 718 and the Corvette.
718
Have a 718 GTS with a stick and would take that over a 911 any day and yes I do like the sound. Thanks for the great review.
Thanks for the review
Greets from Spain.
thanks Juan!
Excellent review! Really appreciate this... helped convince me to get the GT4 Spyder rather than the 911 S Cabrio.
Thanks, keep tuning in :)
Btw I would take the T or the GTS, so much easier with the automatic soft top!
Great cars, but that loading screen is terrible. And some plastics in the 911 look cheap. And with turbo's now they don't sound that great.
its because of the particulate filter. The 991.2 carreras sounds amazing. If you listen to a gcc spec 992 without the GPF it sounds much much better and aggressive.
@@WahabGoldsmith What does gcc stand for?
I'm not a Porsche fan. But both are awesome lol. None petrolhead can deny it.
I would buy it. They both seems great.
Excellent review as always Thomas. I am actually getting the GTS - delivery in October, can’t wait 😊
enjoy=)

uses a ruler to measure the trunk depth, genius, compared to others who stick their arms in. good job
Welcome! Hope u subbed :)
sippinh2o Attention to detail is what makes someone a genius. This guy’s reviews are my cup of tea.
Hi Thomas. In my 718 you also have a smartphone connection in the glovebox. Just to let you know. As for the rest : always enjoyable and complete videos; keep up the good work, I enjoy it !
Yeah, the one also had that, didnt I mention/show?
Yes, my 2019 718 Cayman has one in the glovebox too.
Great reviews as usual. I’d go for the boxter and have some real fun for a lot less money.
Had an 2007 Cayman, 2011 Boxster Spyder and now a 2019 911 Turbo Cabriolet. All were fabulous cars love every one of them. 911 is an unbelievable car. Can't go back to the Boxster/Cayman now!
Can a review get any better than this? Really. Guys. Just subscribe. It's the best. No look further. Well done, Thomas.
welcome !!
Thanks 🙏
You did it very complete job of an unbiased review of these two cars. All the content was needed and the video flowed very well for being almost an hour long. Wonderful job! I'm a 911 guy but have recently purchased an 981 Cayman for all of the same reasons you outlined in your comparison. The price to value component is clearly in favor of the Boxster/Cayman platform. In America, the 911 has become just too snobbish for my liking... Great job!
Great video Thomas both truly wonderful cars I think the 718 GTS 4.0 would be my choice. The rear is nicer too.
718 as it is smaller and more agile. 911 gas grown way too much.
j Liu
Agree 718 is the best handling car I have ever driven....going around the curve, you must pay attention to speed because I got a speeding ticket coming out of a 45 mph curve at 75 .
😁
I have only driven my 99 boxster base with 47,000 miles on her but between these two the boxster definitely is the better looking p-car in the front or rear......And after seeing your review I think I have made the right choice.
I get that the 911 is a dream car for many people…..I’ve driven both at Porsche track days and the Boxster/Cayman is more fun. Also, on the track the Boxster/Cayman gives more confidence and easier to drive fast. The performance between a Boxster/Cayman and a 911 at the track was not as great as you would expect.
180K is laughable
did you forget to raise the rear screen on 911?
718 is best choice easily, and if you invest in spyder edition, you will not lose money at all
and 718 sounds very good for a turbo 4-cylinder engine
It’s a pity for 911, because it started as a pure sports car.
thanks for tuning in!
I owned a 67 911. Personally, I'd rather have a 991 or 992.
HI Thomas,
I brought a used Cayman GTS 2018 with 10 k miles. It was in perfect condition and looks like new. It was loaded with every possible option and stickered for 107 k I paid 72 and love it. I only regret is it has the PDK... I like it fine but miss the manual.
Enjoy 😉
Same here just bought a used Boxster S 2019 with £22k of options for £50k - only 9k miles. Pick it up at end of month - cannot wait
Nice, comprehensive and attention to detail, going beyond just driving. Thank you.
👌
41:46 good information. Good to know this kind of driving impression that you don’t get much in car review videos.
💪
Patiently awaiting that Rolls Cullinan review! You’re the only guy for that job!
Great review, bravo! I was looking for a comparison between the 718 and the 911 just to convince even more myself on my choice as I got a 718 S last year. I have never experience such handling on this car category, it is orgasmic. Thanks for the review
S is a much better car than T.
718 is more fun...like go kart...718 is my choice but 911 has more comfort for long trip .. thanks i always enjoy your review Video
Cheers!
Thomas, the 912 looks cheap on the inside, and awkward. I liked a lot more the classic interior of the 911. That black plastic trim makes it look cheap...
I think the 911 is gorgeous 👍🏻 That’s the car I would buy!
Gute Übersicht und Vergleich. Mir gefällt der 718 besser, der 911 ist zu massig.
Thomas, apologies as I am very late to the party here but I wanted to say this is very well done. Very compelling argument and very professional quality of production. Cheers from Atlanta!
Cheers m8!
Good job. Talking more a little about the suspension and ride experience in both units in each mode gives us more idea of the comfort vs performance and the balance vs road conditions how different conditions will feel. Thanks again great job I’ll take two 718’s his and hers for the price of the 911!
=)
Maybe a GT4. But a Cayman T over a 911?
Probably hasn’t crossed the minds of anyone shopping one or the other.
Agreed. Not a good comparison.
The force is strong with you!
I disagree on the seats. I drove 1,330 miles in 4 days in my 718 Boxster base. Very comfortable, no back problems.
Excellente comparaison.
Merci beaucoup!
Thanks!
718 GTS 4.0 litre straight from GT3 solves the issue.
911 always, the rear engined 2 wheel drive setup is something very special and it's an iconic sports car.
S is much better than T.
I agree with you.
I am currently on the 718GTS, and I want to switch to the 718 successor in the future.
And that must be the new 4-litre GTS
Perfect combination = 911 engine with 718 visual.
Love the 718 also the USA price w the some (not much in option) goes up to $ 85.000 it can go over $100.000 its kind off crazy how the material costs. Anyway love the 718. Great review!!
thanks Harry!
Already ordered 718 Boxster base model with few options. So looking forward to get it by December!
enjoy!
Chia-Hung Lin I would hold off till the 6 cylinder returns or get a 981 model
I cancelled a 718 GTS Cayman purchase last summer as when driving slowly through the dealer car park the engine sounds like a go cart.
Sound changes
The newest 6 cylinder only use 3 cylinders at low speed, rpm, so worse sound, believe me
Juan Miguel Sarria Salcedo are you serious -didn’t use sports mode lol. I went and got a 992 S last week a real porsche
No cats were hurt during the making of the music. Promise.
There's only one and no substitute.....
The 911!
Thanks for the great video.
