thank you! $5 repair and about 30 seconds! i am thrilled that my vehicle isn't in a repair shop for all of this. you are quite eccentric but you make a lot of sense. again, thank you!
Seems so simple, but that's some great advice. Love your channel. Gonna start doing some simple maintenance myself now on my car. Saves money and it's a lot of fun.
Great video, thank you! Took your advice....removed the horn relay fuse and replaced it with an adjacent fuse of a similar size and presto, the horn worked which indicated the relay was bad. Bought a replacement at the auto store for about $8.00 and the problem was resolved. Thanks!
Scotty thank you for this post. Saved me a lot of headaches. Turned out the horn fuse was missing...dont know why but now I got the solution. Thumbs up.
Thanks Scotty, after checking the fuse and the replacing the relay I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then I shorted the horn out and nothing happened. So I knew it was the horn itself, both high and low tones. Thanks for your videos.
I think a momentary switch would be a better option than a toggle switch. It only supplies power when the button is pushed and shuts off power when released.
Hi Scotty I got a problem with my for Excursion 2000 the horn sounds when the car it's off but when the car is on it won't work how can I do to fix the problem thank you for the help
Thanks Scotty, another great video ...... my horn relay burned out and a new one wants to do the same .. for now I have left it out. My question is should I pull the fuse also, only runs the cig. lighter (don't smoke) and a glove box light (not installed) .. I will wire the horn separately. thanks
Hey Scott love your videos. I have a 2006 pontiac g6 and it pulls to the left when i brake.. I thought it was a brake problem but now im being told that is my worn out bushings thats causing the pulling when i brake.. What do you think it is???
Thanks @Scotty. Can you give me some specific tips on running a horn of a switch, fuse, and battery? What kind of fuse do I need to buy? Thanks! PS: I have found one fuse box for my 1970 Ford truck, but there is no indication that the horn's fuse is in this one. Is it possible there is a second fuse box in these trucks? Any ideas on 1970 F-250 fuse box or relay locations would be greatly appreciated.
SCOTTY are the 2 wires that go to the horn pos and neg seperately or is it just a pos or neg wire that is split and a switch put in the middle. I have Chevy truck 2002
Mr. Kilmer, I watch just about all your videos and hit like before it even ends. Keep up the good work!!! A little longer of a video would be nice but A+ in my book👍
scott, what should i do if my horn sounds like its dying? it works but its not full sound and full volume. i have a 2010 prius with 2 horns, a low note and high note horn. there is no fuse or relay for my car in the engine compartment fuse box. when i put in a fuse and relay I received a hybrid system light on my dashboard. I guess I dont need a fuse or relay for the horns on my car. I know some cars you don't need them from my research. please review and advise on how to fix a "sick" horn. thank you for your great video!
Hey thanks for the great vids, im looking to buy a brand new car and I was wondering what are ur thoughts on a brand new 2015 Chryler 200 c with the alfa romeo platform. Is it a reliable first car for an 18 year old? Any thing to worry about with chrysler? I wanted the pentestar 3.6 liter v6 btw
Ahmad Hamdan fiat and reliability do not belong in the same sentence. Now that they own chrysler, a notoriously weak company that has gone bankrupt numerous times, I would suspect things aren't getting any better.
Hey scotty ! Could you explain more in depth on how to wire in a switch ? Like what wires conector and which hooks to the battery and which to the switch ?
roughredneck 22 44 45 you need power from a wire going to the battery, then that wire goes to one side of the switch. Then the other side of the switch has a wire that goes to whatever you are hooking up. And put an in line fuse on that wire for safety too
Hey Scotty. My horn works when I use the fob function. Safe to assume fuse and relay are good? All steering wheel functions work except horn, so does that eliminate the clock spring as the problem? I have one and am willing to replace but why bother if it's not the culprit.
Hey Scotty, I have a 98' dilverado c2500 and my horn hasn't worked in years. I had the fuse/relay switch checked and was told that they were good and its a bad horn. Is this an easy fix if I install the horn myself. I can I get to the horn to replace it. Thanks so much for your assistance.
Hey scotty really like the vids u make have helped me out alot having trouble with the cruise control on my 2000 nissan xterra and idea what i could be? Thank and take care
It's frustrating that the 2006 & newer PT Cruisers don't have a fuse for the horn! It's connected instead to the Total Integrated Power Modual (TIPM). And, the horn is located just in front of the passenger side front tire. I think I was 14 before I heard the term "engineer." Because of my father's job at General Electric, I always heard them referred to as "God Da*π engineers!" It's that kind of engineering he was referring to. 😉 I am so grateful for Scotty posting videos! He has helped me in so many ways! ☮️
Hey Scotty, I have a 2006 toyota sienna. The fuse and relay are good, but I've determined that power is not getting to the horns. there is apparently a break somewhere between the relay and the horns. I'm not sure how to fix that....
I have a 1997 ford f150 4x4 xlt the horn isn't working I checked the under dash fuse box and from the chart i found on the internet I cannot see a horn fuse there is just a horn relay under hood which i swapped with one next to it but didn't work. I think I need to find the right diagram for my truck..shouldn't there be a horn fuse under dash ?
hey Scotty, I have a honda fit 2010 automatic transmission. the steering seems a little heavy but the EPS signal did not appear on my desk board, so i decided to change the steering fluid but i cannot find the steering fluid reservoir under the hood.
Thanks man! Liked that you went through all the fixes even though you figured it out.....saw someone fix the switches inside the steering wheel (with an airbag) can this cause the airbag to also malfunction in the future, or is the main concern just it going off on accident??
Is there a way to by pass the wiring to old horn? In Honda Element the horn is located at a difficult place. I wouldn't mind putting a second horn and rewiring it. But before I make things worse I wanted to ask if it is possible.
Which horns do you think are better, the foreign disk style horns, or the old American snail horns? I know which ones sound better, but which are more effective?
Morning Scotty, Would you happen to have done a video on removing and installing a ported vacuum valve? I have a lexus with a hard to reach valve and was wondering if I can get some Scotty wisdom. Thank you for your time
no vid, just basically try sliding the hoses off, and realize they often will crack the plastic end if it's an older car. In that case, slit the hose with a razor and just replace the hose, they are much cheaper
Hello Scotty. My horn went off during a cold winter night at 5:00am . Does this video apply to this problem? It went out on it's own before i could disconnect the battery. The car still runs ,etc. Thank you for the answer.. I just got a new mechanic and I want to know what he may charge ne for and the cost, etc
Hey Scotty nice vids as always!! But im having trouble with my horn on 2002 lancer es... The fuse is new but once I go plug it in the horn goes off itself. To stop it you have to have car key on the On position other if not the horn will go off......Any idea??? Thanks
Hey Scotty, are car lock/unlock chimes built into the horns of cars? I have a subaru and it used to make a chirp noise. I checked if the setting was turned on or not, and it is. But the car is still not chirping when I use keyless entry. Thanks
need some help figuring out how to put in a toggle switch for my horn I have a 99 ford escort wagon and my horn doesn't work do u have any videos that show the step by step of how to install?
Hi Scott. I love your all your videos. I have a question. I just bought a new car, it has 80000km on it and I don't know went previous owner changed it. So I assume they use 5W-30 oil. Should I increase it to 10w-30 oil as the milage increase or stick with the same thickness oil? Thank you Scott.
But i asked the mechanic at the local shop, they said as the car get more milage, you just keep increasing viscosity of the oil like 5w for new engine and 10w for like 50k km and so on. I am a little confused. But I guess I take your advise as I don't really trust those mechanics. Paid them $250 just for crank angle sensor replacement but they actually didn't fix the random stall. Then I watched your video, found out it was the camshaft sensor faulty. Thanks a lot
awesome video my horn doesn,t work on my 2007 nissan maxima se howevever you hit the panic button and horn blows then you push the horn button on steering wheel it works wait alittle while then push the steering wheel horn it doesnt work go fiqure any idea thanks
Scotty two questions for you. 1. Where do you find yourself that very same probe device? 2. If lets say I didn't have one, what other object can I use to give electricity to the Car horn in between the Engine and the radiator? Thank you for your many answers.
Before changing the horn clean the ground bolt if it is chassis grounded. If there is only 1 wire this is a tell that the horn (or any part) uses a chassis ground.
Great video, straight to the point just how we like it 👍🏼. Do you also have a video on how to install the horn with the toggle switch like you said (how to run the wiring too. Thanks
Where is the relay for a 2008 chevy equinox? I've looked everywhere, fuse seems fine. Can hear a clicking sound when I push on the steering wheel, but not sure which relay runs the horn. Help! Thanks!
Scotty, 77 chevy pickup with a bored over 350 and somewhat big cam. Misses under hard load. Any ideas? We've swapped carbs three times, swapped distributors and checked for vacuum leaks.
big cams often are not set up correctly. find a GM tuner pro with a dyno to fine tune what he can, just bolting stuff on is pure guesswork, it needs to be set up right, including the carb jetting adjustments.
Hi Scotty, my 2009 Ford Falcon (Australian) rear window defroster interferes with the radio when I turn it on (it still works fine, it just turns the radio to static) - started at the end of last winter, I didn't bother looking into it as I was using it less and less, but now Winter is on it's way here again, so it's probably time to sort it out. Any ideas where I should start?
Hey scotty, if anyone should know it is you, so here I am. Hey, we have a great Buick Electra 225, 1979 model. But, we can't find the horn relay or fuse? We have looked everywhere. The connections seem fine, but no horn. Took wheel off, that was all ok. But, no relay in the fuse box...so where the heck to find it?? Thanks a huge bunch. Been looking everywhere for an answer!! The book does not have the info either.
Hey Scotty I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse V6 that needs the timing belt and water pump and oil seal replace I know you work on downtown Houston and I was wondering about how much is it to repair it
Hey scotty I did the horn toggle switch on my car with a train horn.... sometimes people in nyc can't hear regular horn honks so u have to step it up a notch!!!
i have honda fit 2010. i notice the steering is a little heavy, i am wondering if it is just the honda fit or is there something wrong with the EPS? Also i am looking for the steering fluid reservoir under the hood but i cannot find it...
get your vin number, see if it has electronic steering on it from honda, call a parts dept, they can tell you. If not, often a worn power steering pump on that model, and the fluid cannister is above the pump, just follow the pump feed hose up
Scotty Kilmer I have an 03 Mitsubishi Galant. When I put my horn fuse in the horn constantly goes off. So if I did want to wire a manual switch, how do I remove the circuit from my steering wheel button? The new wires have to go through the fuse right?
I want to buy a 2001 Toyota Corolla with a 4 Speed manual transmission. what do you think of that and what can I do about the burning oil problem since it's passed 170,000 mileage and occurs in a lot of old toyotas?
I just found your chanel and I already watched many of your video, theh are great, and I have a question I us to to have a toyota corola 2010 I love toyotas but, I bought a 2015 honda civic did I a make a good choice?
Hi Scotty I have a question that me or my mechanic can't figure out. My 06 altima (99k miles) has been shaking a bit so I changed the tires, balanced them then put new rotors and brake pads. It still shakes BUT only when there's a load on it like people sitting on the passenger side it shakes pretty bad. What do you think it could be?
I fixed my horn better than the dealer. Sure, they replaced the horns that were starting to wear with the same model which were the newer Fiamm AM80S horns but if you really want a good and loud sounding horn, pick up some older Fiamm AM80 horns or if you're going to get the AM80S horns, get the ones that are made in Italy, they're much louder and attention grabbing. If you want to get slightly dirty, you can cut off OEM plugs which I did and attach some spade connectors to some wiring so you can use horns that have spade connectors. I just doubled it up so I could have dual horns which my car always had. Just be careful so the wires don't touch each other otherwise you could blow the fuse so I always go the extra length and buy the spades with the isolators on them which is good if it's something that will be exposed to moisture and water over time. The Chevy dealer charged me over $120 just to install the two horns and for a 2000-2005 Chevy Impala, it's really easy, all you have to do is remove the passenger side headlight and there they are. I noticed it's like that from a lot of GM vehicles from that year span.
Hello Scotty off the topic I have a 99 grand am and it has code p0200. I have changed fuel injection, spark plugs, coils, coil pack, icm. When I unplug injector 1 there is no difference in the engine running. Could it be a ground issue? Thanks.
n7467q Test the injector power and ground wires and pcm/computer driver by putting a noid light in place of the injector. And test the resistance of the injector, that will be $50.

My horn keeps honking when I turn, how would I fix that?
Me horn At me Kia Rio 2012 thats have funny horn hehehehe
I like this guy. He actually explains things, simply. Thank you.
Of course he does! He's been a mechanic for over 47 years
Yeah until he tells you to get rid of your car and after you get rid of it he makes another video explaining he was wrong 😂
thank you! $5 repair and about 30 seconds! i am thrilled that my vehicle isn't in a repair shop for all of this. you are quite eccentric but you make a lot of sense. again, thank you!
Scotty is one of a very select few channels that I immediately thumbs up before the video starts
Next month: how to fix your rear demister before winter. Swap the relay with the horn :P
***** That's fucking novel.

Lol..that shut was too funny bro!!!!

🤣🤣😂😂 WAIT IT'S TOO MUCH !!!!
David Riley 😅
Seems so simple, but that's some great advice. Love your channel. Gonna start doing some simple maintenance myself now on my car. Saves money and it's a lot of fun.
It is fun and we learn.
Straight and to the point, interesting, knowledgeable and explained in ways I understand! Thank you
Great video, thank you!
Thumbs up.
Quick and entertaining video! Thank you. I never use my horn, but you never know when you'll need it!
Thanks Scotty, after checking the fuse and the replacing the relay I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then I shorted the horn out and nothing happened. So I knew it was the horn itself, both high and low tones. Thanks for your videos.
I love the "if not this, than check that, if not that, than check another thing...." Great problem solving presentation. Thank you.
Can you do a video on how to setup the horn to a switch
Can I use the same methods for my wife because she quit blowing.
it won't work on wives
Shit as soon as I saw the video pop up I was going to say that joke. Looks like I wasn't the only one thinking that lol.
Tony Nguyen not getting blown blows
Tony Nguyen ....that's hilarious....use that hand buddy...always willing to oblige
Then do the old version of a 'selfie'. That's something YOU DO when the wife says she has a headache!
This was oddly very useful. Thank you for giving multiple resolutions.
I think a momentary switch would be a better option than a toggle switch. It only supplies power when the button is pushed and shuts off power when released.
sure, but I didn't have any lying around in my tool box to use as an example, but all auto parts stores sell em
I LIKE YOUR INTRO, MAKES YOU LIKE A REAL PRO. YOUR EXPLANATIONS EVEN SIMPLER THAN OTHERS AND STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. THANKS SCOTTY
Hi Scotty I got a problem with my for Excursion 2000 the horn sounds when the car it's off but when the car is on it won't work how can I do to fix the problem thank you for the help
I will be following you from now on you're knowledgeable and quick with the info.
Mate that is one of the best videos showing every possible problem in 3 bloody minutes, legendary 🇦🇺👊🏻🍻👍🏻
A push button would be more appropriate. Nice video Scotty
This guy kills me lol I love his videos.
hi thanks for the videos. do you have one on how to install the dash button? not sure what fuse part that is. thanks
Your videos are awesome. I really like them. They're not all vehicle specific for me, but they're great at pointing you in the right direction.
Good explanation, the other day I found out the horn in the vehicle I was driving didn’t work until I needed it or wasn’t aware it didn’t work.
Thanks Scotty, another great video ...... my horn relay burned out and a new one wants to do the same .. for now I have left it out. My question is should I pull the fuse also, only runs the cig. lighter (don't smoke) and a glove box light (not installed) .. I will wire the horn separately.

Why is this the best channel ever?!
Hey Scott love your videos. I have a 2006 pontiac g6 and it pulls to the left when i brake.. I thought it was a brake problem but now im being told that is my worn out bushings thats causing the pulling when i brake.. What do you think it is???
Helpful video, I got the same problem on my 2005 camry. Why don't I have mechanics in my town that explain problems like you do.
rewiring the horn circuit is awesome advice for those of us who refuse to get rid of our old, beat up junkers.

Hi scotty!! What is the disadvantage if the servo motor was on bypass? thisnis for Mitsubishi Lancer Glxi '99 model.. thank you..
Always leave it to Scotty to save the day!
Thanks Scotty- Where is horn relay on 1993 Ford Aerostar 3.0 . Not in steering wheel is it?Can't tell by diagram .

Could a non working horn be due to a bad or corroded ground wire

What do you think about using wago connectors in your car

Scotty I have a 2013 Dodge Challenger sxt and my horn doesn’t work also my air bag is off could never find a horn fuse for it or anything.
Do u have any advice on why a horn would turn on when turning the ignition key

Which horns do you think are better, the foreign disk style horns, or the old American snail horns? I know which ones sound better, but which are more effective?

hey scotty, I've got a Ford Explorer Sport 2001, and I think that the wire inside the steering column is loose, you said it's not safe to open it up?
Hey Scotty nice vids as always!! But im having trouble with my horn on 2002 lancer es... The fuse is new but once I go plug it in the horn goes off itself. To stop it you have to have car key on the On position other if not the horn will go off......Any idea??? Thanks
wiring is shorting out to the horn, heck, put on a switch like I suggest at the end of this video to beep it.
Scotty Kilmer Thank You so much I found the wiring shorting out!! :) All good Now
Hey Scotty, are car lock/unlock chimes built into the horns of cars? I have a subaru and it used to make a chirp noise. I checked if the setting was turned on or not, and it is. But the car is still not chirping when I use keyless entry.
Thanks
most use the same horn
Scotty, so if an alternative horn with a toggle is passable for inspection, can I just use one of those Dollar Tree compress air horns?
Hey Scotty I have a problem with my 2000 dodge stratus. The horn blows but it’s stuck so I had to remove the fuse. What you think?
Could you describe further how to install a horn switch near the steering column for a kia sedona EX
need some help figuring out how to put in a toggle switch for my horn I have a 99 ford escort wagon and my horn doesn't work do u have any videos that show the step by step of how to install?
Scotty! What about a horn that goes off on its own when you hit a small bump? Especially after a steering wheel airbag recall service! thanks
Hi Scott. I love your all your videos. I have a question. I just bought a new car, it has 80000km on it and I don't know went previous owner changed it. So I assume they use 5W-30 oil. Should I increase it to 10w-30 oil as the milage increase or stick with the same thickness oil? Thank you Scott.

Hi,Scotty. Can you tell me where is located the horn on the 95 Buick Skylark,6 cyl,2 door. Thank you.

awesome video my horn doesn,t work on my 2007 nissan maxima se howevever you hit the panic button and horn blows then you push the horn button on steering wheel it works wait alittle while then push the steering wheel horn it doesnt work go fiqure any idea thanks

Scotty Kilmer Thank you!
Scotty, what's your take on the classic Volkswagen bugs? Were they as reliable as Toyota or Honda?
No, but they were much more reliable than the modern beetles.
Scotty Kilmer Would you ever buy or recommend one if it has been well taken care of or restored?
Scotty two questions for you.
1. Where do you find yourself that very same probe device?
2. If lets say I didn't have one, what other object can I use to give electricity to the Car horn in between the Engine and the radiator?
Thank you for your many answers.
Before changing the horn clean the ground bolt if it is chassis grounded. If there is only 1 wire this is a tell that the horn (or any part) uses a chassis ground.
Great video! Thank u! Had to change my relay and swapped like you did. Worked just fine. Thank u!
Help! Thanks!
I doubt you’ll answer this but if I want to put an air horn instead of my factory HORn Can’t I just hook up the two wires or do I have to use a relay
The book does not have the info either.
hello Scott on your next video can you show how to install a horn wiring kit
Hey Scotty!!! Those are really good looking black leather jacket!!! Fits you well!!!
Hey Scotty I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse V6 that needs the timing belt and water pump and oil seal replace I know you work on downtown Houston and I was wondering about how much is it to repair it
V6 Mits are pretty expensive to work on, but a ball park figure would be about 700 bucks.
Thank you so much for sharing! Figured mine out just now. It was a fuse!
Hey scotty I did the horn toggle switch on my car with a train horn.... sometimes people in nyc can't hear regular horn honks so u have to step it up a notch!!!
Awesome :)
I replaced mine with animal sounds.. I use the pig horn for people who cut..
😂😂😂
i have honda fit 2010. i notice the steering is a little heavy, i am wondering if it is just the honda fit or is there something wrong with the EPS?
Also i am looking for the steering fluid reservoir under the hood but i cannot find it...
get your vin number, see if it has electronic steering on it from honda, call a parts dept, they can tell you. If not, often a worn power steering pump on that model, and the fluid cannister is above the pump, just follow the pump feed hose up
Scotty Kilmer the steering type is R&P. I am wondering what does that mean? thanks.
Brian Luk Rack & Pinion steering.
Can you please make a video on how to install switch to and from the horn on the dashboard.
yes please scotty
I just found your chanel and I already watched many of your video, theh are great, and I have a question I us to to have a toyota corola 2010 I love toyotas but, I bought a 2015 honda civic did I a make a good choice?
vegeta1234 those are good cars too, not quite as long lasting as a corolla though.
What do you think it could be?
find a better front end mechanic, go to him with people in the car and let him measure the alignment then, a true pro can fix that
I fixed my horn better than the dealer.
Very cool way to explain things 😎🤓
I have a Chevy cavalier 97 and currently trying to fix the thermostat and also I need to fix the horn any tips
+Luis Caballeros go to auto zone, they sell horns and thermostats and can show you where they are on your car.
Hello Scotty off the topic I have a 99 grand am and it has code p0200. I have changed fuel injection, spark plugs, coils, coil pack, icm. When I unplug injector 1 there is no difference in the engine running. Could it be a ground issue? Thanks.
could be, the computer grounds the injector to fire it, and that circuit often goes bad on gms.
n7467q Test the injector power and ground wires and pcm/computer driver by putting a noid light in place of the injector. And test the resistance of the injector, that will be $50.
