@@gurogrlll I don’t really like ships so if not for the hard evidence I wouldn’t be in support of it. Though I generally don’t mind shipping content if the dynamic actually works. I wouldn’t encourage it because I don’t like it. But I wouldn’t hate it if the characters work well together in the ship. Just don’t give me something weird like Cuttlefish X Octavio or some Alabama-type ship like Callie X Marie or something like that.

I actually dont think woomy is popular in Japan, if I'm remembering correctly. I only found this out when Nijisanji was hosting one of its splatoon tournaments, they had a special bracket for EN V-tubers. Some JP livers introduced them on stream, with pre-written lines written by the EN members. Most of them included "woomy" in their introduction, but the JP members were actually confused, and "woomy" had to be explained to them.
i'm pretty sure the JP equivalent of woomy is 'まんめんみ' (manmenmi)
I find it kinda funny that the “now draw her giving birth” meme, originated from a Callie and Marie drawling on miiverse.

Important addendum to the plaza posts portion, but the "Now draw her giving birth" meme was conceived way back in the Splatoon 1 Miivers community page. It was a response to a drawing of the Squid Sisters and Captain Cuddlefish reacting to white ink. Marie looking particularly excited about it. You're welcume for that knowledge

It's interesting how Project Splatoon 3 got some things pretty close to being correct - a bow Main weapon, a sword (though the PS3 one was a special instead of a class), and a special that functions almost the same as Zipcaster. They also mentioned Killer Wail returning.
I would bet hard money that the Stringer/Bow weapon class was directly inspired by Project Splatoon 3. I remember at the time the Bow being the main thing about it

Yeah I definitely saw a lot. I think the one thing I didn’t like was that everything seemed over the top. They never used the original hairstyles and all the new ones looked kinda weird imo. They def has some cool concepts tho

It’s also fair to mention that the gold dynamo roller was not just in promotional material, but it’s also been in THE GAMES FILES SINCE THE FIRST FEW MONTHS AFTER THE GAME’S RELEASE 💀

Marina is actually a war criminal and although she wasn't part of the Great Turf War she did design every single great octoweapon that you fight in Splatoon 1

@@yaoimessiah ...which was to create wepons of mass destruction. Sure it's easy to beat as the player, with special gear with armor and powerful weapons, but to a civilian inkling the Splatoon 1 bosses would have wreaked havoc, killing thousands.
@@chrono9503 lmao the inkfish arent human, in universe when they "die" from injuries they can just respawn. marina also didnt design the octoweapons... the only thing she built herself was the flooder. she just worked on enhancing the octoweapons later on after the great turf war had already ended, which would explain why the octostomp got a new phase and attack in splat 2's story mode.
One my favourite splatoon ships is Eight and Agent 4, they were confirmed to be sharing an apartment in one of the art books... I believe? or a japan exclusive magazine I can't quite remember .

I can't believe the first thing I thought of when I saw [SFM] was "Hey! That's the animating software used to make a psychological horror movie in the TF2 universe that goes on about infinite death and a machine that causes terrifying results!". I love that movie :)

I feel like Gao should be included in this. Their... "obsession" with the salmonids blew up on the Reddit and the subsequent consequences of the big run had them go through an entire character arc of loss and growth.

@@HEADINMYCLOUDS Gao is the username of the player that started a massive lobby post meme about making love to the salmonids with their infamous post that read "Throw me to the Salmonids, I'll come back pregnant" while standing in front of a sign that reads "full of mental illnesses" after the announcement of the Wahoo World Big Run. That post caused tons of people to make their own big run posts. Since then, Gao has made a few more posts related to this, such as commenting on how they were 9 months due or that they could feel the baby kicking. The joke was ended with a post that read "Gao has died, as Grizzco does not allow maternity leave". This meme has died down since, but still is mentioned a lot on Reddit.
Now that you mention it, the iceberg is missing a few things that were well known on reddit

45:00 I've mostly came across a bunch of players such as one called penisfingr (I did actually laugh at this name in battle) and absurd funny names in game. I mostly just cackle at the names and just move on with my life as it's probably gonna be a one time thing only.
I’ve been pretty down do to so much of my social media feed being focused on negativity and all of the bad things currently going on in the world. It’s nice to have a video like this, about something I love that’s just all about appreciating that thing, so thank you.^-^

2. In the "Splatoon Concerts" entry, I stated that all the concerts were hosted in Japan but someone in the comments let me know that theres actually been 2 concerts hosted outside Japan, in 2018, for the Splatoon 2 championship in Switzerland, Off The Hook and the Squid Sisters hosted a concert for the event: th-cam.com/video/PvYGH8SfyMk/w-d-xo.html

3. Another entry I'm so upset I forgot to add is the quote "F*ck you tuesdays". The owner of the clothing shop in Splatoon 2 "Jelfonzo" has a shirt that changes every day. It so happens that on Tuesday, Jelfonzo wears a shirt that says "F*ck you" in inkling language. It's now tradition to celebrate this "holiday" of sorts in the Splatoon community. I watched through the whole video (I know,I'm a few months late :( ) and I really enjoyed it. The editing was good and all the topics were explained in a very good way,that's easy to understand for both new players and people that are interested in splatoon overall (like me :P). Really cool :D
i remember when there was a news update in the first game, you HAD to watch the update while spamming the A button. sheldon was even worse. nintendo did not believe in efficency so they had "no speed up sheldon's rambling" feature. it's pain.

It would have made sense to put that for this iceberg, but I still try to steer away from really sensitive topics and drama for my younger audience and keep videos monetized. I'm also really not knowledgeable about the dramas that have happened in the community.

I would like to say that the reason Splatoon 2 and 3 haven’t seen a lot of hackers is because the switch itself is hard to mod to get those hacks. It’s not Nintendos moderation- it’s simply the difficulty and risk associated with hacking online.
Wii U hacking is wayyy easier and is hence why Splatoon 1 sees so many hackers now.

Its actually a common misconception that Craig Cuttlefish is racist. The racist remarks that Cuttlefish made to Marina in Octo Expansion is only in the English version, whereas the Japanese version (the actual canonical version) has nothing intended like that.

Since side order came out and how marina said that- it’s making a lot more sense.
I’m into splatoon creepy pastas, and the recent trend I’ve seen was portraying Grizzco or Salmon Runs in a analog horror type of way. Like - leaning into the foreboding atmosphere of big runs and the salmon runs themselves, and how dangerous it is to work for Grizzco.
Im kind of surprised you didn't mention the "agent 24" (for those who don't know that is ship between agent 3 and agent 8) ship when talking about ships. Next to perlina, it's probably one of the more well known ships.

Literally only an hour ago from watching this I was playing splatoon 3, and towards the two players on the enemy team disconnected, leaving them with only two nautilus’s lol (also, the team was originally 3 nautilus’s and a splatana, this game balances in the strangest ways istg)

was wondering if the Octoling Hacker was gonna be brought up. For context to those that dont know, in Splatoon 1 there was a hacker that would join lobbies playing as an octoling while using the Hydra Splatling (before its official release). If you then left the lobby and went to the plaza, your save file would corrupt and your progress would be erased, since there was no official playable octoling option and the game couldnt handle it. Fortunately, the easiest way to avoid that happening was just to keep playing the lobby until they left. I never personally encountered them, but i saw a few plaza posts from some of their victims
For some reason I’ve only had like 15-20 comm errors throughout my entire time playing s3 (that wasn’t from other players intentionally dc’ing in the first minute of a match
