    Great video! Thanks for the info. I get foggy on these details from time to time. One suggestion: when shooting your videos, try and find a microphone that you can have close to you to capture audio. When you go to edit the video, just overlay the recorded audio and mute your camera's audio source. If you don't have that capability you can try splitting the audio from the video using various softwares and use something like Audacity to do a noise reduction process, which looks for white noise and tries to squash it. Audacity is free to use and fairly simple if you're at all familiar with what audio editing tools look like. Then you can boost the audio a bit and slap it back onto the video editing tool you used and you'll have much better sounding videos on YT for us to watch! It was a little tough to hear you guys at times as the white noise was fairly prominent throughout.

    • @stereoking7778
      @stereoking7778  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to worry about the impedance. If your amp is 4 ohm stable then you will need a 4 ohm sub, if your amp 2 stable you will need a 2 ohm sub. Etc. This is based on if you only using one sub of course.

    What happen if you connect a dual coil sub to a bridged amp. In the scenario of using a dual 8 ohms subs making the funal 4 ohm resistance to the output of the amp.

    • @stereoking7778
      @stereoking7778  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That should work great! If you are bridging a 2 channel or 2 channels of a 4 channel amp, they are generally 4 ohm mono stable.

    • @froshouseable

      Mehul Singh no sir. Many 4 channels can be bridged to 2 channels. If it doesn't show it on the amp check with the manufacturer.

    • @stereoking7778
      @stereoking7778  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally speaking the mid and the Tweeter are through a passive crossover Network which masks the actual impedance of each component. Typical crossover Networks have resistors added for the Tweeter and sometimes the mid that altar what impedance the amplifier will actually see.

Apparently it takes dual voice coil 6x9 rear speakers but I can’t find any. Can I wire up these 4 wires to a single voice coil speaker some how? 1 set for highs and 1 set for lows. I hope you can help! Thank you

    • @stereoking7778
      @stereoking7778  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not really a dual voice coil in the normal sense. The best thing for you to do is find a pair of six by nines that have a set of wires that can be disconnected from the main speaker terminals. For our customers I usually recommend the hertz dcx690s. They will have what you need. Just connect the two wires that come from the Tweeter and attach them to the highs output from the hip and then connect the low frequency output to the standard terminals off the speaker.

    • @kylem8702
      @kylem8702 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stereo King okay, so what you’re saying is I should get a coax 6x9 with tweeter wires that run from the tweeter down through the cone to the + and - posting. Then take those wires and splice them with my 2 hi freq wires, then run my 2 low freq wires to the + and - posts like normal?

      You will want to hook up both voice coils. If you only hook up one your amp will only create half of the power and more than likely you will clip the outputs trying to get the volume you desire. Which will damage the subwoofer.

      I believe it's best to overpower a sub then under power it. The reason why is you tend to send Distortion trying to get more from the subwoofer when you underpower it. If you overpower it you tend to scale it back a little bit and then the amp it doesn't clip.

      Think about it like a V8 motor. If unplug half the spark plugs you will seriously damage the engine. The same goes with a dual voice coil woofer. The motor structure and cone are designed to use both coils. If you only use one to push it it simply can't create enough energy to move it properly and ends up damaging the coil.

    • @ACommenterOnYouTube
      @ACommenterOnYouTube 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ACTUALLY..... the 5.7L hemi engines from 2007 are designed to run on 4 cylinders to save fuel.... Granted any other V8 ... yes it can do damage because even though you cut spark... there is still air and fuel going in and compressing but not igniting... So yes it can hurt unless you shut off fuel & spark from those cylinders... then it will work ok as long as you shut the right ones off.... The engine must still be balanced, you must cut 2 from one side and 2 from the other side...and it must be in a cross angle firing pattern... or else you get vibration... back to topic..
      Interesting... i keep getting mixed reviews on this subject and its almost 60/40 right now. Some say there is no damage and others like you say there will be damage... One guy even claimed he has been using his dvc sub for 5+ yrs and only has powered one side and its still working just fine..

      Most factory sub amps are mono so they use a dual voice sub to drop the ohm load down. The lower the load generally means more power. So if you wanted to do a single voice sub you would need a sub at a 1 ohm load. It Usually easy to find a dual 2ohm sub than a single 1 ohm.

    1:35 - not sure the philosophy about dual voice coils is sound; if you will excuse the pun.
    Contrary to what’s being said/inferred in this video . . .
    Dual voice coils don’t usually make the design of the transducer simpler; single voice coils do.
    That said, I suspect the guys are referring to installation/sales, when they say “simpler”.
    As, a dual voice coil woofer (and its variable resistance configurations) can sometimes adapt more easily to most pre-existing and/or planned cabinet/amplifier considerations/combinations.
    However, there are a few substantiate/woofers out there in the market that have dual voice coils and only have 2 (not 4) terminals on the basket.
    Put simply the terminal count is not necessarily an indication of how simple, complex, and/or elegant the transducer architecture is.
    The JL Audio driver shown in the video at 50 seconds (with only 1 voice coil) is a very basic woofer design.
    In fact, so is the other one.
    Have a look at 18 Sound’s Tetra Coil woofers to see what goes into a good woofer design.
    But then, the car audio market is not really the most informed market in the world.
    Most of the time the guys that buy these and listen to them loudly in their car, are basically driving around listening to the repeated impulse response of the woofer over and over, and over again.
    When done right; dual (or quad) voice coils are useful because they usually enhance power handling; as - for applications where voice coil material/length is the same with a single/dual voice coil assembly - they spread the thermal load and allow it to be transferred away via conduction/convection quicker/easier.
    Dual voice coils can also be used to improve/enhance the electromagnetic circuit and overall electromotive design in various ways; including controlling stray inductance.
    Testing for and/or relying upon the nominal resistance figures as (shown in the video at various stages; including at 3:46) a means to select series/parallel configuration with the dual voice coil woofer and/or amplifiers, is - in my opinion - *not a very good approach.
    Still, I guess it’s better than not knowing anything at all and/or the nominal resistance; particularly for scenarios where an accurate impedance plot is not available.
    There are many reasons for my *aforementioned opinion (about why testing for and/or relying upon the nominal resistance figures is not always a good approach) but one of them is because it is the impedance of the transducer (combined with any crossover reactance) that really matters most and dictates what load the amplifier will be driving.
    And, the only way to know that is for the manufacturer to provide an accurate impedance sweep chart across all frequencies the woofer operates over and/or for someone to put the woofer in a sealed/ported cabinet that best emulates the end use situation.

    Can we run only one coil?

      If you only use one voice coil the subwoofer will work, but I don't recommend it. The woofer is designed to you both coils and only using one will greatly reduce the life of the sub.

      piyush suthar it will also cut power of sub in half

      it will not damage the speaker im running 6 DVC subwoofers as SVC in parallel series and no issue

    Which is better for a mono amplifier thats is poineer 2400watts a dual coil or single coil and which is more better in every thing i need a big bass and a clear bass ?

      While dual voice coil woofers will generally handle more power, it doesn't really matter. If your amp makes 2400 watts at 2 ohms, find a woofer that will handle 2400 watts and be at a 2 ohm load, don't worry if it is single or dual voice coil.

      Okk thx a lot guys i will bring a poineer 2400 watts mono 1 channel they write on the box 1 ohm on it but inside the detail they write that impedence 4ohms( 1 to 8 ohms ) with a subwoofer poineer 12 inchs 1400 watts 4 ohms dual coil . Is this action good or not ?

      Check your amp and woofer and see what the RMS rating for both both are. See how much power the amp will make at two ohms.

    What i don't get is, if i have, for Example, an 100W RMS DVC Sub, did this mean, that it has 200W over all or still 100W, i mean should i Adjust the Amp to 100W or 200W. And is there an Difference between Serial and Paralel, in the Amp Setup? Sorry i'm totally new to DVC. I would tend to Paralel 200W and Serial 100W but i have no Clue if this is right.

      If a sub is rated at 100w that means it can only handle 100w of continuous power whether it is a single or dual voice coil. Lets say you have a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub that you have wired in parallel. That means your sub woofer will receive what ever your amp will make for power at a 2 ohm load. But you wire the sub series your amp will only make roughly a quater of the power that it would make if you wired your sub in parallel.
