Great explanation of configuring the subwoofer. The instructions that came with the sub I purchased only showed the half ohm setup. Once I saw your drawing examples my rockville amp was min 2 ohm setup.
It's awesome that you help your customers the way you do. My training I've been advised, never run series between separate subs, only on the individual sub. The resistance from the wire in-between the subs has resistance that can cause issues, especially with dampening. And never run each coil directly to individual channels of the amp, especially if you aren't running a high end amp, as their can be a slight difference in the output between the individual channels, and definitely not a coil between separate amps. This can cause coil separation.
PERFECT!!!! I have a DVC 1ohm 1000rms. I'm a noob to this and super excited. Thanks for this video! I took a screenshot! I got the Deaf Bonce DB252 12 inch D1 with a Hertz HDP1 at 2ohm I will get 1000rms 😊 I also got a 102amp alternator which should help with power through 4 gauge setup.
Think of a dual voice coil driver as effectively two separate drivers so + then - then + then - Doubles one coils resistance. Or + to + / - to - Half's one coils resistance. If you used two drivers with different resistances which could be done you should Add the two then multiply the two then devide the two totals.Happy Building
Great job on explaining the difference in each set up JP!!! You are right It does get a little difficult as you add multiple sub's because you have to watch your impedence if not you can easily burn your amp!!! I learned that the hard way when i first got into car audio!!! 👍👍👍
I mistakenly purchased a dual 2ohm sub and my amp is only rated for 2ohm loads, so based of the diagram I can either run it as 1ohm or 4ohm. Is it safe to just wire one voice coil to get the full 2ohm load or just buy another amp?
Thanks JP rewiring my 10" had it almost right have a 1 ohm amp wired as a 2 or in series I think but the amazing drawing really helped you missed your calling in life should be an artist lol but really this did help me a lot thanks JP
Im running my sub off a bridged 3rd and 4th channel so I wired my d2 sd3 to 4 ohm. This is a temporary measure for my more sq based system until I get a mono amp as the 300rms I am getting from the bridged channels is still ok for my current system goals.
hey can you give me some advice, i have a single 4ohm dual voice coil woofer can i use dual bridged mode to power the coils separately. amplifier i am using is Sony XM-GS4 4ohm bridged. woofer is a focal RSB-300. your response is much appreciated.
I have a dual voice coil 4ohm 15 kicker wired to a 1ohm 2000watt 1 channel amp how would you wire it for the most bass? And for some reason amp has 2 speaker outputs ...2 positives and 2 negatives but it claims to be 1 channel
thank you for making this video! A friend of mine gave me a Dual 4 ohm Voice Coil sub for free and I haven't hooked it up yet this will help me run at 2 ohms at 1000w RMS
If u lower the ohm's then you add distortion. The Lower the ohm more distortion... If you wire your coils in series then you are turning those voice coils off.. if you wire them to 1 ohm you have to have alot of Watts to make any noise out that speaker. It's easier to move a subwoofer if voice coil is 8 ohms also it sounds alot better then a 1 ohm load or even 2 ohm load...a 4 ohm load sounds 100%the best. Your amp will run hot and struggle to power any subwoofer at 1 ohm or 2ohms and drain your battery only after two bass hits.... Your better off Getting 2 svc 8ohm subwoofers wire them in parallel to these Crappy Amps they make these days to a final 4ohms load on the amp you'll beat them all if you want more then Add a third svc 8 ohm subwoofer and so on. Try to stay around 4-6 ohms Also if you go down to 1ohm or 2ohms and are using class D amps you are going to have the most distortion of any stereo out their....classD amps puts off the most distortion of any amps. If you go down to 2ohms or 1ohm and use a class D amp it's gonna sound like one of the top 10 worst...
I have a Memphis pr1x1000 amplifier and 1 800 watt Memphis 12..... The amplifier seems to barely push the 12...? 1 Dvc 800watt and a 1000 wat amp that just doesn't make sense.... I've tried bridging the amp and I have tried to lower Ohms on the sub... but no matter what I do is still seems to barely push the sub. This has been with the sub hooked up in 2 separate vehicles and it still react the same way. Any suggestions on how get more out of the amp or to just get a combination to work together correctly? Thanx
I have a 4ohm dual voice coil speaker I usually connect in parallel and bridge it to 2 channels. My question is can you connect each voice coil separately bridged to 2 channel. Equaling a 4 channel amp connected to 1 dvc
So if I have two subwoofers at 2 ohm each. I don't connect other side of the subwoofer. I just connect the two subwoofers together which will give me 1 ohm for both subwoofers? I would go 0.5 if my ORION HCCA HCCA3000.1DSPLX, Class D can handle it. I got the Skar ZVX v2 d2 12
Ok so I just installed a skar SDR-12 I believe and it was a dual voice coil setup first time ever trying this, sadly I didn’t see this video prior to install but I’m wired exactly like diag. #1 but I’m not sure what ohm level this sub is for but I believe this is a 1200w rated sub I’m running it on a 500w JL amp with it and the sound quality seems to be great and hits extremely hard when turned up, just curious if anyone running a similar setup and is wired differently 👍
I'm thinking about going with a 12 inch subwoofer but I don't know which one to get. I have limited it down to either a Sundown Audio SA-12 or a DC Audio level 2 12 m2. Any recommendations?
I seem to have found a dilemma in how to approach wiring what I've got on hand. (2) DVC 4 ohm subs and a 4 channel amp. To get the power required to drive the subs properly, I would have to bridge the channels but the amp is limited to 4 ohm in bridged mode. There doesn't seem to be any way to wire them up as just 4 ohm? This problem will be slightly solved by the new 5 channel amp I ordered but again run into a problem where I won't be able to get a 2 ohm load from the (2) 4 ohm DVC subs. This is poor matching choices by me of course but was wondering if you can see any way to wire this how I need them to be? The amp I ordered is rated at 500w x1 @ 2 ohm on the sub channel (dyno tested) which matches my power on the subs. At 4 ohm, the sub channel only does 300w which is only 150w to each sub. That's not a lot.... Any suggestions other than buy different hardware? Note: my subs are separated in truck boxes. Not ideal, I know.
HAY Mr Price I’m considering using a duel 4 OHM coil 10in Alpine R sub. 600 watt RMS mated to two mono block Alpine MRP 500 amps. I’m considering the 300 rms x two for the 600 I need but Im wanting cool runnin amps as well. Is it safe to wire one amp to one coil pos-pos and neg -neg and second amp pos-pos and neg-neg to the other coil not crossing any connections ?????????? Not really wanting more thump then that due to the rear hatch being above the sub box in a C4. And the box will be just a foot away from the back of the seat and head. This sub is larger than my older earthquake sub from 2009/10 model year and that one pounded well enough for me. I just hope this isn’t over kill at this point. Whaa u think??????? Sir
So, if i have an amp 1200watts at 1omh and a sub speaker 600watts 2omh dual coil and run it in series will the amp send 600watts instead of the full 1200 watts that is rate it at full power
question. I just bought 2 subs that are rated DVC 2 ohm. But'.. I had two other subwoofers rated at 4 ohms DVC.... now I know that the sub with DVC 2 ohm can be wired as a total of 4 ohms sub. and the other DVC 4 ohm can run at either 2 ohms or 8 ohms. my question is. can I use a 2 ohm DVC wired in series which is a total of 4 ohms. plus a DVC 4 ohm wired in parallel which =2 ohms.. I know you can use a combination of parallel and series to end with a total of 6 ohms. with those specific subs. I don't know if I'm correct or not. the question is? is it safe? thanks a bunch
Hello, i have a dual 4ohm and my amp cannot handle the 2ohm load on bridge channel, my only option is serie 8ohm load, my question can i wiring only on one coil for 4ohm load or my sub will not be happy?
Please answer, if I have 2 amps and 1 sub. My box has 1 set of + and - terminals. Is it going to be a problem to have both amp positive and negatives going threw the same post and then to each voice coil or does they need to be seperate and not connect together at the box wire post for the speaker wire. Thank you Dumb question I know and it seems stupid to do, but just confirming before I wire it up. Thanks
I want to get a kicker compr they have 2ohm and 4ohm and wasn't sure what to get? I also don't know what channel amp and what gauge wire to get any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
If I get 2000 rms at 1ohm in one amplifier; and in another amplifier I can get 2000 rms at 4ohm ... Will I still get the same power from Ethier ohm? Or does the 1ohm still hit harder? Thank u in advance
have a jl jx500.1 MONO amp with 4 speaker outputs and one Dual voice coil 2ohm Kicker comp rt subwoofer, i want to run this sub @500rms@2ohm. Can i connect each voice coil (2+ and 2-) separately to the amp and it will run at 2ohm?
If I have 2 subs but want them both to be at 2 ohms (subs both are at 4 ohms each) and I have an Amp that has 2 channels do I do the parelle wiring for each sub? Connecting each sub to each channel? Or do I bridge? I'm just learning this so bare with me
well i just wired my sub in series like you pictured and emediatly blew my sub bye bye competition series dvc car filled with smoke now it sounds like shattered glass thanks bud
I have 2 dvc (4 ohm) subs that I'll b using in a home theatre but my amp is only stable at 8 ohm bridged, can I just use 1 coil from each sub? Technically this would make it 8ohms at the amp. I really don't want to buy another amp nor subs.
I already have a JL audio jx500/1d 500rms@2ohm and 300rms@4ohm. Should I buy the Kicker Comp RT DVC4ohm or Kicker Comp RT DVC2ohm? Will I hear huge difference running the same subwoofer @500rms2ohm vs @300rms4ohm?
Sky Kam I’m no expert and neither is my brother, but he says 100 watts difference like say from 100 to 200 isn’t that noticeable... but that’s just my 2 cents. Personally I’m going to install a 5 channel amp (maybe kxa800.5) with 4 infinity kappa 682.11 cf speakers and maybe the Kicker CompRT CWRT101 (43CWRT101) shallow subwoofer. It’s all going in my F-150 2006. I think it’s going to sound good.
I have a 1000w amp at 4-ohm I want to wire a 800w DVC 4-ohm sub and bridge it ,I connected straight pos to pos neg to neg and it's clipping ... Thank you

I have a 4om zstat amp with a bridge an a 4ohm single 10 1000 watt dual.voice coil Orion how do I hook up a 4 ohm dual voice coil to a 4 ohm bridgable amp
Abher Lowkz sure, your be @2 ohms at the amp. If your amp can power the sub at 2 ohms your be fine. If your amp is rated for 1 ohm your get about half its rated power. Safe no matter what tho.

3 years later and still very helpful! Thank you!!
This was as crystal clear as it can get. I thank you bro. This was great.
As a beginner doing my first sub wiring, this helped so much! Thank you so much
By far the most informative video on TH-cam concerning a single dual voice coil sub. Thank you so much!
It's awesome that you help your customers the way you do.

Glad you made this vid. I personally am a 'pay to play' guy so I never touch any of this stuff, but it's so good to know this info. Thanks!
Me too for the most part lol

Ohh now I’m overwhelmed buy this lol and haft to save up for a better amp than what I got now. What would you guys use for home audio ?
please do the multiple sub wiring thanks for this one tho
Multiple subs in Parallel or series?

John D Well that was exactly the problem my amp didn't have any fues so it over heated then it was nothing but smoke after that!!! 😡😡😡
Thanks!
Good video JP! Nice and simple right to the point.

Do you have to use both voice coils? Or can you use just one vc? So if I had a dual 4 ohm. Could I just use one vc and be at 4 ohms?
I have 2 cadence 12s on a 2500.1 crunch amp it gets down good in a 85 caprice waiting to put my highs amp in this weekend
Still loving your work man
Thank you colton!
Bro thi most easy and good explanation ever dude 💪💪💪💪I even subscribe
What about wiring a 2ohm dvc sub to get a 2ohm load out of the amp?
I'm glad you made this video
=D
thank you for making this video! A friend of mine gave me a Dual 4 ohm Voice Coil sub for free and I haven't hooked it up yet this will help me run at 2 ohms at 1000w RMS
JP TECH - One thing I love about 2 ohm loads: you can play it alllllll dayyyy long! lol 😆 Best of luck bro! Post up when you're finished?
yes sir
I have seen DVC subs wired with each coil directly to a dual outlet mono amp can you explain what ohms you end up with

But for one 1ohm u need a 1phm stable amp. So if u don't have that u would want to wire a single 2ohm sub in series to 4ohm.

If you connected the 2 subs outputs together then plugged them into a monoblock will that actually step down the impedance.

helped me alot actually thank you
So my amp it’s rated for 0.5 ohm stable and I own a NSV5 15 D1 I should run it series than? I’m sorry I’m pretty new to this thanks a lot
So how would you wire four dual voice coil 4-ohm subs to get to 1 ohm? On a mono amp?

Thanks for doing this video!!
we have a single sub dual 2 ohms..and 2 ohms amp...but we used 1 set of terminals only to match the amp.which is 2 ohms amp.is that ok for the sub?
Is it possible to wire a single voice coil sub and a dual voice sub together ?

SAS15G u should be fine as long as u got stout electric setup. Box rise is your friend in this situation
01:28 - Video starts here
It's cool you made the video. Think it's weird though how people don't know how to use google for this shit.
Nice job ! You can go to the12volt.com and thier is a calculator that will tell what you will end up with .
Hey man can i just run direct leads to the amp? Reffering to dual 1 ohm
Abher Lowkz sure, your be @2 ohms at the amp. If your amp can power the sub at 2 ohms your be fine. If your amp is rated for 1 ohm your get about half its rated power. Safe no matter what tho.
On the third piece of paper the first option do I Bridge it, or hook it up regular?
Bridge the 2 negative terminals together then do the same for the negative on your sub
I’m running one single massive 12in sub DVC4, running parallel. Running It bridged or regular makes my amp run hot
What rms is your amp and sub?
300 rms sub. 400x1 4ohms or 200x2 2ohm
If I read that right your amp is putting out 200 watts rms at 2 ohms and your sub is rated for 300?
Thanks , this video was very helpful BOOM BABY ❤️
