Reliving The War takes a look at the Monday Night War - The battle between WWF Raw and WCW Nitro that took place during the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Professional Wrestling went through an incredible boom period during this time with WCW airing on TNT and WWF Raw airing on the USA Network, fans were spoilt for choice with both shows eventually putting on great shows while trying to gain the lead in the TV ratings.
It's the night after Royal Rumble 1997 over on the WWF channel and Bret Hart has a lot to say. The Hitman blames his problems on Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Vince McMahon and the WWF as a whole. On this episode of Raw, Bret quits the WWF... but Gorilla Monsoon presents a match to Bret that The Hitman can't refuse. Elsewhere on the show, Stone Cold Steve Austin battles The Undertaker.
WCW are gearing up for Clash of the Champions XXXIV and nWo Souled Out, the nWo's very own Pay Per View. Hollywood Hogan is scheduled to take on The Giant at Souled Out, and The Giant tries to get his big hands on Hogan on this week's episode of Nitro. Lex Luger vs Stevie Ray, Booker T vs Scott Hall and Chris Benoit vs The Taskmaster also takes place on WCW Nitro this week.

24 years latter and that La Femme Nikkita show is rather legendary getting 5 seasons and a reboot, while I never knew that Robin Hood show was a thing. So it's clear who won that Monday Night War.

@@planescaped Back then they'd probably be rubbing their hands together and saying: "this will be a great angle." And the fan who did the stabbing would probably get like a 2 week run on the show. It was absolute chaos and that's why we love it 😂

Yes and no.
Austin threw out Undertaker/Vader and then Fake Diesel and Bret Hart. If Austin didn’t jump back in the ring, Bret still had to get rid of the other guys to win which would have been a tall order.
What I found funny was Fake Diesel was in the final 5 guys, got screwed by Austin and still got left out of the PPV match lol.

Haha dude, me being a huge Bret Hart fan, I remember being so confused as to why everyone kept calling him a cry baby! I was like “he was screwed!! Why isnt anyone doing anything about it??”
@@KEWLV1C Yeah he was screwed, but its the way Bret went about it that gave him the cry baby rep.
Personally i remember back in 1997 being on Austin's side even tho he was the heel, just because i couldn't stand Bret whining. Where my best friend was the biggest Bret Hart mark out there who would get angry at me for just implying Bret shouldn't complain like that.
Then they turned Bret heel which made sense and i liked him a whole lot more.
I was too young to watch all this stuff when it aired so I feel like I get to experience it live again through this show each week, thanks WB.
As someone who was 12 when this all started in 97, you are in good hands! WB really gives it justice! Also, there are things you may miss flipping back and forth. Great for all ages!
I was 20 in college, man these were the days! We would hang around the dorms and have parties every Monday night, switching between the 2 shows.

Night and day difference between 97 and 96 RAW. You do fantastic work Bios.
96 was a hard slog to watch WWF,some terrible times. 97 u just knew a change was happening.

I was 17 here, these Mondays are some of the best memories of my life
I was 16 and we would have nitro wwf parties at my brithers and his friends apartment. My best friend. Was my brothers best friends brother if that makes sense.
So we would get to smoke weed and drink. And I even got a few blow jobs from a few skanks. My first real taste of debauchery on a weekday.
And my parents would let me stay the night slot of the times.
And we would play the n64 wcw game afterwards. afterwards. This went on for years and the first time I dropped acid. In my eye.
Great times. Half was wwf fans half was wcw fans. TVs for both. And a third for games.

It was legendary when Monsoon and Austin argued with each other backstage after Austin Injured Bret in the ring then attacked Bret in an ambulance on a later episode of Raw that year. It was one of the last things Monsoon did on WWF TV.

One of the first complete episodes of raw that was damn good from start to end. Austin around here was starting to get a lot of fan support. Hart was underrated with what he was doing on the mic too around this time
Stone Cold Hitting His Prime Badassery Here. Seeing the change week to week has been awesome. I got back into wrestling right after Austin and Owen at Summerslam. So watching the Ringmaster to Stone Cold through these Videos has been Awesome. GREAT Work My Friend...Great Work.
I can't wait until we get to January 1998, when he's stunning everyone he sees as a threat in the Royal Rumble.

Austin brought me back too. I took a break from watching WWF in 1994 and switched over to WCW because of Hulk Hogan. But by 1995, both companies were going downhill and took a break again. Hogan's heel turn in 1996 got me back again to WCW and Austin feud with Bret helped me switch over WWF. Great times.

The Clash of the Champions were awesome viewing when there was only 2 to 4 pay per views a year.
@@dmichael1172 true. The only thing I will praise AEW for is their ppv scheduling, 5-7 a year means something and makes every event feel special.
Also even though they don't do Clashes like the NWA and WCW did, on non ppv months they hold specials on Dynamite that could be ppvs
The ring segments by Hart and Austin were incredibly refreshing for the product at the time. A definite strength going forward in the war.
Sadly in 2021 it makes the business tiresome.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx I've seen some great promos in the last two years but I don't watch WWE. Unscripted promos can be more emotional and that does make a difference.
I remember that nitro episode like it was yesterday I remember being glued to figure out what randy savage was going to do next. I also remember that raw episode as well makes me feel like a kid again.
I also thought this was a tremendous episode of Raw against an ok episode of Nitro. But, damn, a 2.2 the night after the Rumble? Just shows where all the momentum was at the time.
I always thought it was crazy how they allowed the F word in a Raw theme "Play that F*ckin music yea!" Even if the F word is edited out, you can still hear it plain as day. 😂
JR taking shots at Robin Hood would make absolutely no sense to the WWF audience who didn’t watch WCW.

I heard Bret Hart was originally supposed to win the 1997 Royal Rumble but then they went with Stone Cold winning it instead. I never fully understood the reason behind the change though.
They wanted bigger numbers for the next pay per view. It was still gonna be Bret until HBK lost his smile.
This was the last of the great Davy boy before he started going downhill. A star of my childhood.

This series is better than anything on Netflix. I've never anticipated a TH-cam series more than this. Doing some amazing work man. Thank you.
I just wanted to note that Scott Hall is maybe one of the best in the business in the art of selling. He's so good at looking like he's dazed when he takes a shot, like the way he gets back up, the way he falls down from a bump. In his prime he was phenomenal, should have been a bigger star than he was but I think he kind of let Nash speak for him and Nash always ended up getting the big spots and so did Hogan and I think Hall ended up with the scraps. He doesn't seem to be bitter about it though, I just think he had a lot more potential than he ended up living up to.
He was definitely the more talented of The Outsiders, having both mic skills and could wrestle.

I've finally caught up after working through all the previous episodes the past few weeks. It's a shame I won't be able to watch a new episode every day now, ut I'm so glad the series is still going strong.

The story telling from wrestlers like Bret Hart is what I miss most. I feel like they just go through the motions now. Like trapeze artists in a sense.
It's just high spot after high spot now. Finishers barely matter anymore either.

I love this series so thank you for doing it. It is a trip down memory lane for sure! When I was younger, I usually chose Nitro over Raw but, even back then, I was bothered by all the DQ finishes to the main events. These videos have confirmed that. The Raw story lines and talent were very interesting and I now think I should have tuned in earlier to WWE. Again thank you so much for these videos!
The WWF promos here felt real and believable and it added so much to the show going forward.

I was a WCW mark during the rise of Stone Cold. It’s cool to go back and watch it happen.
The best part about the early days of the attitude Era was stone cold just doing whatever he wants and the crowd loving every second of it.
As for Daffney Rest in Power. She was definitely one of the most hard-core girls in wrestling doing all those matches in TNA I already miss her. 😢 😔

I believe this was the episode when Sting rappelling from the rafters almost went wrong. He mentioned it in an interview a few years ago when talking about Owen Hart but didn't go into details of exactly what happened. Just that it was Nitro at the United Center. Knowing that definitely made it interesting seeing the segment with CM Punk and Darby Allin and Sting in Punk's return a few weeks ago in the same arena, with Sting and Darby in the rafters.

That Nitro was my first wrestling show I ever went to, and 25 years and a dozen or shows later and those first 10-15 minutes with Macho and Sting are still the most memorable moment I have ever had live

This is the Raw that got me watching wrestling again. I was a few days away from being 12 and my mate told me about the Royal Rumble so I watched this Raw. Absolutely hooked after that for about 10 years.

I remember there was a compilation video of every time Taker kicked Lesnar in his sack set to that Bobby Hill "THATS MY PURSE..." audio clip going around social media. Seems to have disappeared, though.
