I have listened to this symphony more than hundreds of times, but this one by Celibidache seems to be a comepletely NEW symphony to me. Absolutely amazing. What a towering genius. He is not only my favorite conductor, but greatest!!

Both Furtwängler and Celibidache take a very similar approach to the 1st movement. Furtwängler's 1952 performance ends within seconds of this one. Both omit the repeat of the 1st movement exposition. That 1952 performance is my favorite, but that recorded sound leaves so much to the imagination. This to me is a lot like Furtwängler might have done had lived to record later. Note that Klemperer is similar but repeats the expo.

Einfach wunderbar!

Maestro Celibidache's slow version of Beethoven symphonies beautifully dissected the intrinsic elements that Beethoven insightfully planted. It gives you a distinct opportunity to resurface Beethoven's hidden emotion...
In that aspect, Maestro Celibidache is an unparalleled interpreter of Beethovens

This is a Pastoral Symphony without an exposition repeat in the first movement, which is, in my humble opinion, a little bit regrettable. It is, however, one of truly great performances of this supreme masterpiece, maybe because of its relaxing tempo, and its ultimate clarity. Thank you very very much for sharing this priceless gem.

a lot of this is wonderful. In the end it probably doesn't quite displace Sanderling as my reference recording because, although the leisurely tempi are in general completely appropriate, there are times when you want a bit of nudge for more contrast and certainly more drama in the Storm. There is just a hint of inflexibility at times. But when one considers how rushed and perfunctory most performances of this symphony are, he gets far more right than wrong.

The greatest symphony by the greatest composer: Beethoven 6. There are many wonderful interpretations. Celibidace is extra-slow, taking an approach influenced by Buddhist thought; meditative and never in the studio but always live with audience to create music as a religious experience.

But now i find that his disciple Celibidache is even more wonderful, his God is more like Jesus Father in Heaven. The Atmosphere is more spiritual(Furtwaenglers is more vital),the spirit is more serene.

A faster tempo turns the 1st movt into mere pastoral bonhomie. A faster tempo makes the 2nd movt. a blurry wash--like a smeary water color. A faster tempo makes the final movt exude bland placidity.

@@vijinanadu1962 yes 😉 I know Beethoven pretty well, don’t worry… saying “Beethoven is mystical” is limit the size of his music. Bye 👋🏻
