Salutari din Verona unde traiesc din 1979,si ma incinta muzica noastra de George Enescu si dirijorul cel mai faimos in toata lumea, Sergiu Celibidache.
Mare noroc am avut ! Enescu sa compuna asa ceva si Celibidache sa dirijaze ,fiind singurul care a putut sa o faca perfect . Si Enescu s-ar fi ridicat in picioare . Doi romani ,acelasi simt ,aceeasi tara , ROMANIA !
După tată, Celibidache a fost grec.

Parerea lui despre breasla muzicala din Romania era foarte, foarte, foarte, foarte, foarte, foarte proasta. Si sa vezi dracie, s-a dezis si de ortodoxismul geto-daco-roman. Era budist - Krishnamurti in sus, Krishnamurti in jos. Atunci, ca si acum, Romania era o mahala. Recte, un rahat balcanic.

Me encontré con Celidibache por casualidad y no dejo de maravillarme con su pasión. Otra colombiana que lo admira.
I was there!!! at this concert. Celibidache was very happy. You could how he was dancing and less conducting. THIS CONCERT WAS GRANTED UNDER A SPECIAL APPROVAL, DURING HARD TIMES IN THE ROMANIA, UNDER CEAUSESCU' COMMUNIST REGIME.This is EPIC!

I'm not religious, but if a nation could have a soul, this would be the perfect musical representation of the Romanian soul. This performance was one for the ages, the greatest Romanian conductor leading an excellent philharmonic through the musical quintessence of this country. It's Romanian folklore elevated to the celestial domain
It's not the first time I've watched this video on TH-cam and I've also seen it on TV at some point (I think the original recording was made by the Romanian national television), but I felt that at least this once I should take the time to thank you, Mr. Zampieri, for sharing this footage with the world.
It might remind all the jaded Romanians that at least some good has come and can come out of this country. It might also help bring more people in contact with Romanian culture. Unfortunately Romania and culture are not two words that are often found associated with each other, and that's true both here in Romania and elsewhere in the world.
Mate, the greatest Romanian conductor was herbert von Karajan (he was Aromanian - Aromanians, with Meglenoromanians and Istroromanians are Vlachs, Dacians; today you call us Romanians).
Also, Karajan, no matter anyone say (and regardless of his origins) trully is the greatest conductor of all times.
Second place belongs, off course, to Sergiu.

Amintiri , dulci amintiri din copilarie cand auzind primele acorduri la televizor ale acestei minunate rapsodii, ma puneam pe plans ....nu ca nu mi-ar fi placut ...dar probabil ma miscau mai mullt decat un suflet de copil ar fii putut sa inteleaga ...40 de ani mai tarziu , aceeasi emotie ma incearca ! ce frumusete ! Când vii in tara si ai o orchestra de romani, care stiu perfect ce este Rapsodia 1, nu poti decat sa dansezi! Celibidache a jucat ca la hora simtind fiecare nota!
Domnule Berescu, mai bine de atat nici ca puteam sa zic! Multumiri multe pentru observatiile dumneavoastra, foarte corecte cu care sunt de acord.
O exceptionala interpretare, iar performanta de necontestat.
This is simply delicious music-making. Celibidache reminds us that this piece is in fact a Rhapsody, and he conducts it in playful, often whimsical rhapsodic style. He embodies and personifies the music, conveying his intentions not only with his conductor's hands, but with his eyebrows, his mouth, his occasionally swaying hips, all as crucial communication with his Romanian orchestra -- never a self-indulgent Bernstein who often drew more attention to himself than to music. A refreshing lightness and transparency comes with the precision of execution. The performance iis absent of any heaviness, murkiness, and mush. This is music-making for the ages, the truest realization of the music I have ever heard. Celibidache elevates the Romanian Rhapsody to serious (while still playful) music, a welcome change from the usual bombast and pot-boiler that trivializes the music.
As a matter of fact, one simply cannot direct this particular Rhapsody without moving some body parts :) All the parts composing it are meant to be melodical and playful at the same time, it's what us Romanians call "sprințar" (sort of a joyful way of dancing, but also playing music).

Ce figură era Celibidache! Cică dacă faci în viață ce îți place cu adevărat nu ai cum să nu faci performanță... Parcă ar fi strânse o mie de povești în această rapsodie. Mi-ar plăcea să mai trăiască Enescu să ne spună cum a lucrat la fiecare bucățicã și ce i-a fost mai drag pe lume. Fără pasiune adevăratã nu ai de unde să depui un asemenea volum de muncă ca al lor. Frumos!

I was there! It was a Monday evening, special concerts for students and general public. Only 20 ley a ticket. Romanian Atheneum, close to Presidential Palace Plaza, Magheru Avenue and corner with Lido and Athene Palace restaurants. The hall was full to no place left. This was the last piece in the programs and Celibidache was specialy happy, a close line to comic feelling special adoration from public, dancing and jumping all aver the place. There was a special electricity in the hall, like a fraternity for liberty. From time to time he was wipping the players with voice commands, as he always was doing.
They finished with 3 more encores. One of my friends was a cousing of the viola chair, the guy who has a small solo on the piece. He left Romania the next spring, maybe for Germany.
Ceausescu did not love Celibidache very much -he was the spirit of freedom then- so he left a few days later for Paris, never to came back soon.
12 years later Ceausesco was dead in the 1989 Revolution.
What a memory to treasure. I have long admired SC for his readings of Bruckner. He is a joy to watch here, really 'choreographing' the whole piece with his body language and doing so expertly, adding to the entire artistic moment #. its great.

Din când în când am nevoie de-o stare mai bună ,sufletească şi credeţimă c-o obţin cu mare uşurinţă ascultând Rapsodia Română. Cred că înseamnă mai mult decât geniul celor care ne-au prezentato în forma aceasta ,faţă de care va trebui să avem permanentă recunoştinţă, cred că poate fi un adevărat izvor din care ne vom potoli setea de identitate naţionl-culturală.Peste veacuri sunetul acesta va aduce aminte de-un cuvânt " Român". Vă doresc o viaţă plină de muzică !

Fantastic performance! What a pleasure to see Celibidache in his physical prime. He was one of the more cerebral conductors, and I love his conducting in later years when he was able to move the orchestra with the slightest twitch of the baton or even of an eyebrow, but to see him totally physically into the music as well is a treat. I'm so glad I stumbled across this recording! Thank you, Mr. Zanpieri!

What a phenomenal musician. He is so totally into the music it is a joy just to watch his face. I regret that I never got to see him in live performance, but his appearances on TH-cam are lessons in themselves.

Celibidache is the definition, the essence of a conductor! No useless gestures, everything he does is meant to perfectly transmit to the orchestra the feeling of each passage. There are quite a few good conductors, but none has ever reached this level, in my opinion.
Too bad he was a HUGE misogynist... I can't watch him without thinking about how he treated Abbie Conant in Munich. Great conductor, but a nasty man.

Celibidache reminds me of Victor Borge. To feel such joy in a piece of music is a spectacular thing to witness. Just a shame the audience could only see his back, thereby missing his playful expressions and gestures. What a grand performance of this special piece.

Enorme Celibidache! Como amo este director, este excepcional maestro! Capaz de sacar lo mejor de cada músico. Exigente, intratable con la armonía, pero dispuesto siempre a imprimir a cada ejecución una sonoridad que nunca alcanzaban los otros directores de orquesta. Su exigencia para con la música , su estudio de la fenomenología musical ha hecho de este maestro el paradigma de la dirección orquestal. Solo él sabía sacar lo más recóndito, secreto de cada músico elevándolo por encima de sus pretendidas capacidades. Celibidache era amado por todos aquellos que comprendían su gran amor por la música, pero era odiado por todos aquellos que no podían estar a la altura de su magia, su exigencia de darlo todo en aras de una ejecución perfecta. Como te echamos de menos en el desierto actual por el que atraviesa la música! Cuando desapareció Celibidache se fue con el la perfección y la exigencia de llevar la música hasta límites insospechados. Gloria a tí, Sergiu. Si el paraiso existe, sin ninguna duda, los ángeles vivirán en un permanente éxtasis gracias a tu magia y poder. Hasta siempre, Maestro!!!
Patxi, ni yo misma hubiera expresado mejor TODO mi sentimiento y opinión sobre este gran hombre y director. Sobre por quiénes es amado y odiado, 100% de acuerdo y suscribo punto por punto todo tu discurso. Un 14 de Agosto se fué pero afortunadamente nos quedan bastantes grabaciones con las que exprimir partituras, las que por cierto él solo usó cuando tocaba con algún solista.

Estamos tan rodeados de mediocridad, que nos olvidamos que, el genio, no el talento de un buen director, sino el genio de un músico de excepción no se da con frecuencia. Tengo dos íconos en mi mente musical: Mozart y Celibidache. Son genios que tan solo se dan una vez en muchos siglos y que cuando desaparecen es como si el manto de la noche quisiera ocultar el sol para siempre. Todo en Celibidache es música, genialidad y vida. Cada vez que veo a Sergiu dirigir a una orquesta es como si la primavera surgiera para poner fin a un invierno que no acaba. Me emociona que personas como tú existan todavía y celebren , más allá de su desaparición, la imagen y el recuerdo de este inigualable y excepcional maestro. Un saludo muy cordial, Maria.

Cela ne fait que corroborer ce que je soupçonnais déja; la grandeur et profondeur de ce genie. Cela me rapproche enormement du postulat de Mozart lorsqu ' il faisait de sa musique un postulat de liberté absolue, liberté pour se detacher de la musique qui ne procurait que èmotions, sentiments alors que la musique doit etre un acte de liberté.La musique pour la musique et non pas la rendre vector uniquement d ' émotions, ce qui l 'abaisserait au rang de sons depourvus de la seule justification de son existence : le chemin vers la liberté, la verité. L' explication fenomenologique de la musique, donnée par Celibidache, est en total accord avec le sentiment de globalité de l univers. Cette dimension d ' un tout est ce qui manque a la plupart des executants lorsqu 'ils essaient de transmettre le legat musical des compositeurs. Ils s 'attachent uniquement a emouvoir les gens a travers la froide mecanique des sons, plus o moins bien traduits de la partition musicale, alors que le vrai but de la musique, comme de l 'art en général, est la recherche de la liberté. Merci de m 'avoir fait decouvrir cette merveilleuse intervention de Celibidache. Veritable vision du monde musical et de sa conception philosophique et referentielle de l' interpretation musicale. He cheated. Well maybe not, but he had it easy. He grew up surrounded by by the folk music that inspired this rhapsody. He recognized it, and really made it shine and sing, in a way that a, let's say Finnish or British conductor, could not.
